Grammar-Based Translation Framework / Grammar-Based Translation Framework

Vít, Radek January 2019 (has links)

Wolf, Dominik January 2011 (has links)
This work deals with advanced models of context-free grammars and explores the possibilities of adaptation and usefulness for deterministic parsing of non-context-free sructures by deep parsing method. It introduces adapted model of context-free grammar named LL programmed grammar and adapted deep pushdown automaton that makes deterministic parsing of non-context-free structures possible.

The effects of scrambling episode components on memory for a picture story: not understanding, but recognizing what you saw

Larson, Adam Michael January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Psychology / Lester C. Loschky / How are episodes of picture stories remembered, and what role does the order of their components (exposition, complication, and resolution) play in that memory? We presented picture sequence episodes of the “Red Balloon” with the order of their components either normal or scrambled. As predicted by story grammar theories, scrambling episode components reduced self-rated comprehension and recall. However, scrambling also produced faster recognition memory responses for hits. This suggests that episode component scrambling interfered with the transformation of perceptual to conceptual information in LTM, producing an advantage for familiarity over recollection. Additionally, recall memory decreased monotonically from exposition to resolution, whereas recognition memory showed the opposite result, and this was the same whether components were normally ordered or scrambled. This suggests that memory for picture story episode components is based on their information content rather than their temporal order, and that information from picture stories moves from perceptual to conceptual memory representations.

Automated analysis of product disassembly to determine environmental impact

Agu, David Ikechukwu 2009 August 1900 (has links)
Manufacturers are increasingly being held responsible for the fate of their products once they reach their end-of-life phase. This research uses a combination of total disassembly time and recyclability to gauge the environmental impact of a product at this stage of its use. Recyclability, or wasted weight, is a function of the material contained by a product’s subassemblies as it is taken apart. This project suggests a graph-based method of representing product assemblies. Unlike many existing representation methods which are used in the field of automated disassembly, the method proposed here takes component connection methods into account. This, combined with a library of disassembly defining graph grammars, ensures that the disassembly simulation performed on this assembly approximates real-life disassembly procedures as closely as possible. The results of this simulation are Pareto sets whose contents represent various points in the disassembly process. Each member of the set is evaluated using the two primary parameters of disassembly time and wasted weight. This Pareto set can be used to judge a particular product’s performance during end-of-life, from the perspective of recyclability, against that of another product. / text

This research explores areas of Natural Language Processing (NLP), such as parsers, grammars and ontologies in the development of a model for mapping queries in controlled Portuguese into SPARQL queries. The SPARQL query language allows for manipulation and retrieval of data stored as RDF, which forms the basis for building ontologies. This project aims to investigate the use of the above techniques to help curb the problem of querying ontologies using controlled natural language. The main motivation for the development of this work is to research techniques and models that could provide a better interaction between man and computer. Ease in human-computer interaction is converted into productivity, efficiency, convenience, among other implicit benefits. We focus on measuring the effectiveness of the proposed model and look for a good combination of all the techniques in question.

The lemmatization of Tshivenda lexical items

Mantsha, Avhavhudzani Virginia January 2012 (has links)
Thesis (M.A. (African Languages)) -- University of Limpopo, 2013 / The study focuses on the lemmatization of lexical items in Tshivenḓa. It was conducted by reviewing selected Tshivenḓa dictionaries and the lexical items investigated were nouns, locatives, verbs and adjectives. The analysis looked at the approaches used in the macro- and micro-structural treatment of these important lexical items in dictionaries. The study also covered the treatment of the morphological, syntactical and semantic aspects of these lexical items in Tshivenḓa. This research ended with recommendations that will help dictionary compilers to overcome challenges they experience when lemmatizing nouns, locatives, verbs and adjectives.

Learning by Failing to Explain

Hall, Robert Joseph 01 May 1986 (has links)
Explanation-based Generalization requires that the learner obtain an explanation of why a precedent exemplifies a concept. It is, therefore, useless if the system fails to find this explanation. However, it is not necessary to give up and resort to purely empirical generalization methods. In fact, the system may already know almost everything it needs to explain the precedent. Learning by Failing to Explain is a method which is able to exploit current knowledge to prune complex precedents, isolating the mysterious parts of the precedent. The idea has two parts: the notion of partially analyzing a precedent to get rid of the parts which are already explainable, and the notion of re-analyzing old rules in terms of new ones, so that more general rules are obtained.

Simulation and performance evaluation of a graph reduction machine architecture

Sarangi, Ananda G. 07 1900 (has links) (PDF)
M.S. / Computer Science & Engineering / The Graph Reduction Machine (G-Machine) is an architecture intended to achieve high performance in executing functional language programs. The success or failure of this novel architecture can only be determined by its performance in executing "real" programs. The simulator of the G-Machine, described in this thesis, makes possible detailed studies of the performance of the G-Machine architecture even though the hardware implementation of a G-Machine is not complete.

Le nom dans les grammaires françaises des XVIIème et XVIIIème siècles : définitions, classements et détermination / Noun in 17th century and 18th century French grammars

Dagnet, Sévrine 26 January 2015 (has links)
Studying the noun, the subject of interdisciplinary study, may seem commonplace, especially in the grammatical sphere. Nevertheless, we will start from the assumption that the work of 17th and 18th-century theorists, who vacillated between a study of French based on that of Latin, and a desire for emancipation, is of definite interest. Three problems stand out in this body of work. The first concerns the general treatment of the parts of speech, a Greco-Roman heritage to which grammarians were forced to adapt, dealing with difficulties of collection and definitions. We seek to understand how the substantive noun / adjective noun subdivision is justified by almost all authors and what particular link the first has with the verb in speech. The second type of question, which addresses both morphological and semantic-syntactic classifications of the noun, leads us to wonder, among other things, about the theorisation of accidents of gender and number. However, it is above all the paradox of the abstract noun, a substantive noun that refers to something without “substance”, which will be the focus of most of our discussion. The last aspect looks at determination by the article, an occurrence lacking legitimacy, which alone raises three theoretical difficulties. We ask ourselves what the occurrence’s status is in the parts of speech (autonomous class? Adjective or pronoun category?). What is its role with respect to the noun and what do we mean by definite, indefinite and partitive article? Last, how did the treatment of the article lead to a general discussion of determination in the 18th century?
