Enabling sustainable energy futures: factors influencing green supply chain collaboration

Irani, Zahir, Kamal, M.M., Sharif, Amir M., Love, P.E.D. 2017 May 1916 (has links)
Yes / This article explores the relationship between sustainability strategies and future energy needs, supply chains need to reduce their CO2 emissions through developing their green credentials and improving performance. Knowledge management (KM) is an enabler to support collaboration efforts. The SCM and KM areas have largely focused on improving organisational performance. While the latter has yielded successful outcomes in different sectors, there is still a scarcity of research on identifying influential factors highlighting those aspects which may enable green supply chain collaboration (GrSCC), thus leading to sustainable energy futures and carbon-efficient production. This paper examines the role of KM in facilitating GrSCC. Through the identification of key factors extrapolated from the literature, a model for implementing GrSCC using a futures-based perspective is proposed. This paper inductively demonstrates the relationship between identified GrSCC factors through fuzzy cognitive mapping technique. Findings support a futures-based perspective that enhances understanding and refines forward-looking strategies for GrSCC.

Análise do relacionamento entre treinamento ambiental e práticas externas de green supply chain management: survey com organizações possuidoras de certificação ISO 14001 localizadas no Brasil / Analysis of the relationship between environmental training and external practices of green supply chain management: survey with ISO 14001 certified firms located in Brazil

Environmental sustainability is achieving more attention in the Management field of knowledge. Recent discussions affirm that a better environmental management can be linked with a better competitive advantage. Thus, many scholars in the field of management have been devoted to the subject and in the mid-1990s two new lines of research have emerged: Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) showing that environmental management needs to be effective in terms of HRM practices (training, performance appraisal, reward systems, recruitment and selection); and Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) showing that green practices should go beyond the \"walls of the organization\", as green purchasing, eco-design, reverse logistics and cooperation with customers. Despite the relevance of these topics, so far, little research have empirically verified if GHRM is related to GSCM, especially considering Brazilian context. The objective of this research is to verify if there is a positive relationship between environmental training as part of GHRM and green purchasing and cooperation with customers as part of GSCM. To this end, we carried out a literature review on the topics mentioned and, based on this; we constructed a questionnaire used during the empirical phase of the research. An e-survey with selfadministered 95 companies possessing ISO 14001 located in Brazil. The results demonstrated that, in fact, environmental training positively influences green purchasing practices and cooperation with customers, especially the first. Furthermore, it was found that the size of the companies is not a so significant variable when controlling GSCM practices. To the date, it is believed that this is the first study that presents a survey testing the relationship between environmental training and external GSCM practices for companies with ISO 14001 in Brazil.

Sediqi, Bahram, Ramli, Syamsulbahri January 2016 (has links)
Introduction- The environmental variant of Supply Chain Management, also known as the Green supply chain management, aims to minimize or eliminate negative environmental impacts.  Unnecessary transports are a negative environmental aspect and means negative environmental impact. Although transports affect the environment, there is little research on the relationship between transport and Green supply chain management. The purpose of the study is therefore to design a strategy for achieving Green supply chain management and reduce unnecessary transport with a focus on uncertainty, variability and transparency. Method- To enable the answering of purpose, a case study conducted with the help of literature and a case company. Results- The case company is negatively affected by uncertainty, variety, and also by a lack of transparency in the supply chain. Unnecessary transportations through recalls are created because of quality defects. This creates obstacles for a supply chain management strategy to be more effective. A systematic approach by Plan-Do-Check-Act can help the case company to create a stable basis and achieve green supply chain management. It is necessary to conduct Plan-Do-Check-Act with good communication in order to create transparency, prevent uncertainty and variation. Green supply chain management can be achieved through a combination of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and Lean. These parts should be conducted with PDCA, which can reduce unnecessary transportation.

The relation between Green Design, Green Purchase, Green Production and a company's competitiveness and financial performance, and

Lee,Yung-Ling Unknown Date (has links)
企業在競爭優勢上的表現與其財務數字上的成績有正向的關係 關鍵字:綠色供應鏈、競爭優勢、財務績效 / Green Supply Chain Management has been a very popular subject recently. For some companies, implementing Green Supply Chain Management can show their determination for sustainable development(Bacallan,2000). For example, UMC just announced their audition of Hazardous Substance Process Management system, and therefore is qualified to export to European market. Primax Electronics has also executed Green Supply Chain Management. All these actions indicate Green Supply Chain Management has become the trend. However, the study wants to investigate if the implementation of Green Supply Chain Management can give a lift of the companies’ competences. In the end of the study, the author can reach the following conclusions: 1. There is a positive correlation between Green Design and company’s competitive advantage 2. There is a positive correlation between Green Purchase and company’s competitive advantage 3. There is a positive correlation between Green Production and company’s competitive advantage 4. There is a positive correlation between company’s competitive and its financial performance Key Word: Green Supply Chain, competitive advantage, financial performance

An Assessment of the Alignment of Truck Manufacturers’ Extended Services with theEnvironmental Objectives and Initiatives of Road Freight Transporters : A Green Supply Chain Management Perspective

Kumeto, Gershon, Ouafae, Ahkchine January 2012 (has links)
Research shows that climate changes we face today is a consequence of the increasing amounts of greenhouse gases that circulate in our atmosphere due to increased human industrial activity. Many firms and industries are therefore increasingly implementing environmental management strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions towards a more sustainable environment. These environmental management efforts can be broadly classified under two umbrellas which are sustainable production and sustainable consumption and these two parts need to work together in order to contribute effectively towards a more sustainable environment. The environmental management literature however reveals a gap between sustainable production and sustainable use of vehicles in the automotive industry showing that while the major global environmental impact - greenhouse gas emissions - occurs when vehicles are put to use, the environmental management efforts in the industry are skewed to the production of vehicles. An emerging trend to breach this gap is that vehicle manufacturers are providing extending services to help vehicle users minimize their greenhouse gas emissions. This study analyses the extended service packages of the global truck manufacturer, Scania, against the environmental objectives and initiatives of five road transport companies in Sweden. An exploratory case study approach was used from the perspective of the road freight transport companies to find out if extended services present suitable opportunities to extend environmental management from manufacturers to users in the road freight transport industry. The study found that the extended services provide solutions that help road freighttransport companies to achieve lower fuel consumption and lower emissions from theirvehicles. Road freight transport companies traditionally invest in environmental initiatives to gain marketing advantages but the extended services present a rare opportunity to the companies to compete on profit margins by investing in the extended services. / Market Making of a High-value Business Model in Low Cost Markets: Value Co-Creation in Swedish Industry, CeLS, Project manager: Leif-Magnus Jensen, leif-magnus.jensen@jibs.hj.se, +46 36 10 1881.

From Green Purchasing to Green Supply Chain Management : a single-case study of Guitang

Wang, Peijia, Liu, Siqi January 2013 (has links)
Sustainable development is an eternal topic and the enterprise’ sustainability provides the answer. Furthermore, emerging market’s sustainable development is frequently mentioned recently due to the serious pollution and waste due to the blind pursuit of higher GDP (Colm, 2012). This paper aims to find out the drivers and barriers of green supply chain management (GSCM) implementation; and figure out how to strengthen the relationship between green purchasing (GP) and GSCM based on the single-case study of Guitang Group. Combining the qualitative and quantitative method, we try to explore and describe the influence on GSCM development caused by the specific background of China. Based on the suggestions of how to strengthen the relationships between GP and GSCM, it will be more efficient for us to find a suitable way for manufacturing industrial companies in China to achieve the path from green purchasing to green supply chain management.

Replenishment policies for deteriorating items under uncertain conditions by considering green criteria

Sazvar, Zeinab 28 May 2013 (has links) (PDF)
The development and application of inventory models for deteriorating items is one of the main concerns of the experts in the domain, since the number and variety of deteriorating products are dramatically increasing. One of the major gaps in the deteriorating inventories literature is that researchers have not paid enough attention to two important features in their models: i) Considering stochastic conditions; especially stochastic lead time is almost overlooked since makes the mathematical challenges complicated, ii) designing innovative inventory policies by taking into account the environmental issues and particularly the CO2 emission as a new objective in a multi-objective framework that is quite new. In this thesis, we study replenishment policy for deteriorating products under stochastic conditions in form of three different problem areas. In the first one, we develop a continuous (r,Q) inventory model for a retailer that offers a deteriorating product by considering infinite planning horizon, stochastic lead time, constant demand rate and backordered shortages. For modeling the deterioration process, a non-linear holding cost is defined. Taking into consideration the stochastic lead time as well as a non-linear holding cost makes the mathematical model more complex. We therefore customize the proposed model for a uniform distribution function that could be tractable to solve optimally by an exact approach. In second problem, we study the strategy of pooling lead time risks by splitting replenishment orders among multiple suppliers simultaneously for a retailer that sells a deteriorating product. Finally, in the last problem, we consider inventory and transportation costs, as well as the environmental impacts in a centralized supply chain by taking into account uncertain demand and partial backordered shortages. In order to deal with demand uncertainty, a two stage stochastic programming approach is taken. Then, by considering transportation vehicles capacity, we develop a mixed integer mathematical model. In this way, the best transportation vehicles and replenishment policy are determined by finding a balance between financial and environmental criteria. A numerical example from the real world is also presented to show the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed model.
