Software Synthesis of SystemC Models

Sirpatil, Brijesh 01 August 2002 (has links)
Technological advances are providing us with the capability to integrate more and more functionality into a single chip. This is leading to a new design paradigm, System On a Chip (SOC). In SOC designs all the functionality of a system is put inside a single chip, leading to increased performance, reduced power consumption, lower costs, and reduced size. SOC design brings with it new challenges and difficulties, however. The designs are now large, complicated and involve both software and hardware components. The designs have to be modeled at a high level of abstraction before partitioning into hardware and software components for final implementation. SystemC is a system level modeling language useful for System On a Chip design. It provides various features to perform system level modeling and simulation, which are missing in the generic HDL's such as VHDL and Verilog. The hardware portion of the SystemC models can be synthesized into hardware using commercial tools . The software portion can be rewritten as embedded software for the target processor. The aim of this thesis is to explore the SOC design process and to define methods for software synthesis of SystemC models. Software synthesis involves translation of SystemC models into code that is suitable for execution on an embedded processor. A simple scheduler that replaces the SystemC simulation kernel is proposed. This scheduler allows SystemC models to be executed directly as embedded software without the need for extensive modification or translation. Application of this process to the development of a GSM speech processing system, including the translation of part of the SystemC model into software that will execute on an embedded processor, is shown and the results are presented. / Master of Science

An efficient communication interface and protocol for motor protection relays

Mouton, A.J.J., Smith, C.J., Smith, G.E.; January 2009 (has links)
Published Article / A company in South Africa is a three-phase induction motor protection relay manufacturer. The function of the protection relay is to capture running data, to provide protection against possible damage, to control an electric motor and to communicate this data to the System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system in a control room. In the case of remote sites e.g. a pump station, the protection relays are used as standalone units. The protection relays are equipped with communication facilities to be used in an instrumentation environment. If a trip occurs or settings need to be changed a technician has to visit the remote site and address the problem. The ideal cost and time effective solution is to perform these tasks remotely via a reliable wireless network. A study was conducted to ascertain the viability of using the standard GSM cellular networks in South Africa to effectively control electric motors and to communicate with the Motor Protection Relays (MPRs) controlling the electric motors in order to determine the status of a motor, settings of the motor, trips that occurred and time of occurrence. It was shown that a node controller could be used to store all the data from various electric motors at a single location. It was also shown that the data from the different electric motors could be analysed at the node controller and that communication can then be initiated from the controller to a responsible person via the GSM network. It was further illustrated that, by making use of the GSM networks in South Africa together with the short message service (SMS), communication and control can be effectively established. SMSs proved to be a reliable means of communication between cellular phones, an embedded network and MPRs. It was shown that software protocols, although slower in communication speed, proved to be reliable and effective for the purpose of transferring information between the node controller and the motor protection relays connected to the electric motors.

[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Self-configuration Algorithm for GSM Cell is designed. Developed algorithm is able to choose frequency for broadcast control channel and propose list of potential neighboring cells automatically and autonomously. Firstly, mobile communications tendencies in Lithuania and world are reviewed. Main drivers and benefits for operators and customers to use SON technologies are evaluated. In following chapter broadcast channel frequency and neighboring cells selection algorithms are developed. Design of these algorithms is based on spectral analysis techniques: energy detection and cyclostationarity detection. Broadcast control channel identification is performed using frequency correction channel detection. Frequency hopping channel is identified by energy dispersion. The proposed algorithm is tested using USRP SDR platform. During the tests GSM cells of one mobile operator are evaluated. The algorithm is able to properly recognize the channels whose signal level is lower than -105dBm, and SNR is lower than -5dB. Using those evaluations algorithm is able to choose optimal broadcast channel frequency and suggest correct neighbor cells list. Master thesis contents: 1. Introduction. Analysis of the problem. 2. Hbtq Genom Livsfrågor I Religionskunskap / Lgbtq Through Existential Life Questions In Religious Education

Dören, Håkan January 2021 (has links)
This paper aims to summarise what current research says about how “life questions” is used in Swedish religious education and what criteria LGBTQ questions need to meet in order to be used in teaching. It does this by systematically searching and assessing academic sources found in four different databases. The research shows that there are two main ways educators use life questions in classrooms, as discussion starters and as thematic interdisciplinary teaching. The research also shows that two general hurdles need to be maneuvered to teach about LGBTQ in classrooms. First one being structural, such as syllabus and knowledge hurdles. Second being social, as other teachers, administrators, students and parents might cause problems for the teacher. This work can and should be seen in the tradition of critical pedagogy more than in the tradition of “life questions”. Even though this paper does not systematically gather new data nor create new knowledge, it is critical of the lack of research on religious LGBTQ students, the lack of research on student perception about LGBTQ questions in the classroom and the lack of research on the concrete results of education pushes by Skolverket, MUCF and RFSL. Keywords: LGBTQ, Queer, GSM, Religious education, High school, Sweden, Livsfrågor, Queer, HBTQ, Religionskunskap, Gymnasiet.
