Kombinerad sim- och sporthall belägen i sydligaste delen av Mellanbergsparken på gränsen mellan Hägerstensåsen och Västertorp i sydvästra Stockholm. Projektet handlar dels om anläggningens placering och roll i sin kontext - i förhållande till den befintliga centrumbildningen kring Hägerstensåsen med dess tidstypiska form och struktur. I förhållande till parkmiljön i Mellanbergsparken och dess funktioner samt parkmiljön i ett större sammanhang. Samt i förhållande till stråken på och i närheten av platsen, däribland inte minst den hårt trafikerade Södertäljevägen och de problem och möjligheter som detta medför.   Dels om anläggningens egna inre logik, de krav som ställs  på en modern, tillgänglig anläggning av detta slag och sambandet mellan de olika aktivitetsslagen inom byggnaden och de eventuella synergier som kan uppstå som resultat av detta. Samt hur verksamheterna inne i anläggningen samverkar med platsen och dess förutsättningar för att generera lokalisering, tematiska samband mellan inne och ute och utformning av allt från bärande system till detaljer. / Combined swimming and sports complex located in the southernmost part of Mellanbergsparken, on the border of Hägerstensåsen and Västertorp in southwestern Stockholm. The project deals in part with the facility's location och role in its context – in relation to to the existing local suburban center at Hägerstensåsen with its time typical form and structure. In relation to the park environment of Mellanbergsparken and its functions and also the park environment in a larger context. And also in relation to the roads and paths on and near the site, of which not least the heavily trafficked Södertäljevägen and the problems and possibilities which these entail.   In part with the facility's own inner logic, the demands imposed upon a modern, accessible facility of this kind and the relation between the different activity types within the facility and the possible synergies that can result from this. Furthermore how the activities within the facility interact with the site and its conditions to generate placement, thematic connections between inside and outside and design of everything from load bearing system to details.

This project deals with a transformation of a park to an entity of a urban scale. Context; Stockholm is growing but have many spaces that could connect areas but doesn’t. They often connect with small gestures but have big spaces of nothing which is experienced as unsafe and uninviting borders. I would like to propose a change for one of those areas. Minor architecture; I would like to do minor insertions in this park to unify and clarify it. To do this I propose a concrete path that spans the full lenght of the park and with some structures along the way to activate the parts that lacks it today. The main idea of the path is to establish something constant and durable so that it gives upportunity for the activities and functions to evolve around it without dissolving the base structure of the park.

I dalsänkan mellan Västertorp och Hägerstensåsen i södra Stockholm ligger Mellanbergsparken. Det är ett långsträckt naturområde med stora naturliga variationer i topografi och landskap. Området domineras av den högresta och branta åsen, vilken löper längs hela parkens norra sida. Parkens östra del kantas av den högt trafikerade E4:an, vilken skär tvärs genom landskapet och skapar en stor bullerstörande trafikbarriär.  Mellanbergsparken är ett välanvänt parkstråk av invånarna i Hägersten. Den fungerar både som rekreationsyta, aktivitetsyta och pendlingsstråk mellan de olika stadsdelarna.Idag är största delen av ytan obebyggd, och är förutom fotbollsplanerna, minigolfbanan, utebadet och förskolan nästintill orörd. Ett par bostadshus har byggts intill tunnelbanestationen i Hägerstensåsen, vilket kan ses som en indikation på framtida planer att exploatera området. Västertorps simhall, som idag ligger inne i bostadsområdet, är sliten och behöver rivas. En ny kombinerad sim- och idrottsanläggning ska därför byggas, vilken planeras att kunna ta emot besökare från hela Hägerstensområdet. Mellanbergsparkens sydöstligaste del, invid E4:an, föreslås som tomtmark. Avsikten är att låta simhallen fungera som ett bullerdämpande skydd mot parken, eftersom att man tror att en ljuddämpning kan ge mervärde åt naturområdet. Med mitt projekt ifrågasätter jag starkt skälen till simhallens placering och nyttan av att låta byggnaden agera bullerskydd. Istället fokuserar jag på den nya simhallens relation till parken och på vad som händer om man väljer att vända sig mot urbana element i omgivningen istället för att stänga dem ute. / In the valley between Västertorp and Hägerstensåsen in southern Stockholm you will find Mellanbergsparken. It is an elongated nature area with large natural variations in topography and landscape. The area is dominated by a tall and steep ridge, which runs along the park's northern side. The park's eastern part is bordered by the highly busy E4, which cuts right through the landscape creating a disturbing traffic barrier. Mellanbergsparken is a well-used park by the inhabitants of Hägersten. It works both as a recreational area, activity area and as commuter routes between the various districts. Today, most of the surface is undeveloped, and is aside from the football fields, mini golf course, outdoor swimmning pool and preschool almost untouched. A few dwellings have been built next to the metro station in Hägerstensåsen, which can be seen as an indication of future plans to develop the area. Västertorp's current swimming center, which is incorporated in the residential area, is timeworn and needs to be demolished. A new combined swimming and sports center will be built, which is planned to receive visitors from all the Hägersten area. Suggested location is the southeastern part of the park, next to the E4. The intention is to let the new sports and swimming center serve as a noise-canceling protection from the expressway since it is believed that a silencing can add value to the nature area. With my project I am strongly questioning the reasons for the sports and swimming center's placement and the benefit of allowing the building to act against noise. Instead, I am focusing on the interaction between building and park and what happens if one chooses to include urban elements - such as disturbing expressways - instead of cutting them off.

Mitt i gränsen mellan stadsdelarna Västertorp och Hägerstensåsen i Stockholm ligger den avlånga Mellanbergsparken. I det norra kortändan hittar man Hägerstensåsens tunnelbanestation och i den söndra går den mycket trafikerade motorleden E4an. Det är en platt park med få träd så den är starkt bullerstörd från E4an. I den söndra ändan finns ett utomhusbad som är välbesökt varma sommardagar, men  motorvägens närvaro går inte att ignorera, så badupplevelsen blir inte fullt så avslappnande som den skulle kunna önskas. Västertorps parkbadhus är tänkt att ligga i det sydvästra hörnet och då fungerar som skydd mot bullret. De högsta delarna i byggnaden hamnar närmast motorvägen för så stor bullerdämpning som möjligt, och för att minimera skuggningen av parken och utomhusbadet. Hela byggnaden är dessutom täckt med ett spaljésystem där klätterväxter kan slingra sig, och de tillsammans med den skog som planteras på markplätten som lämnats mellan byggnaden och motorvägen, bidrar ytterligare till bullerdämpning, samt till luftrening från alla avgaser. Entrén till parkbadhuset och dess tillhörande sporthallar är belägen i en gångtunnel som går genom byggnaden från den nuvarande gångtunneln under Personnevägen. För upplivning av tunneln och förståelse av byggnadens funktion finns här fönster in den djupa hoppbassängen. Själva simhallen är sammansatt av tre volymer som har olika takhöjd och nivå på golven som skapar flera typer av rumsligheter i ett och samma rum. Mellan de tre delarna finns dessutom höga pelare med metallstag emellan som stabiliserar den stora hallen. Längs dessa växer klätterväxter som tar in parkupplevelsen även inomhus. I den minsta volymen, ägnat främst barnen, finns också stora träd planerade som skapar nya rum mellan dem samtidigt som de förbättrar luftkvaliteten. / Amid the border between the districts Västertorp and Hägerstensåsen in Stockholm is the elongated park "Mellanbergsparken" situated. In the northern short end of the park you find Hägerstensåsen subway station and in the southern end is the highly trafficked freeway E4. The park is a flat landscape with few trees so the loud noise from the E4 is much disturbing. In the southern end is an outdoor swimming pool that is frequented hot summer days, but the presence of the motorway can't be ignore, so the experience of bathing will not be quite as relaxing as desired. The Park Bathhouse in Västertorp is supposed to be located in the southwest corner and then acts as noise protection against the motorway. The highest parts of the building are closest to the freeway for as much noise reduction as possible, and also to minimize shading of the park and outdoor bath. The entire building is additionally covered with a trellis system where vines can wriggle, and they, together with the forest planted on the land between the building and the highway, further contributes to noise reduction as well as air purification from all exhaust. The entrance to the park bathhouse and its associated sports halls are situated in a pedestrian tunnel that goes through the building from the existing underpass under Personnevägen. For understanding of the building's function there will be windows that go in to the deep diving pool. The swimming pool hall is composed of three volumes that have different height and level the floors, creating several types of spatial features within a single room. Between the three components is also high pillars with metal rods between which stabilizes the large hall. Along these wriggle vines that take the park experience indoors. In the smallest volume, devoted mainly to children, there are large trees planted, creating new rooms between them while improving air quality.
