Alla måste duscha - en gympasalsredovisning

Hultin, Sofia January 2012 (has links)
SourceURL:file:///Users/sofiahultin/Desktop/AMDex/Summary%20of%20essay.doc I my essay I describe my master project Alla måste duscha – en gympasalsredovisning/ Everyone has to shower – a school gym presentation. Through my work I investigate possibilities for action and agency in a limiting space; the gymnasium. With the help of Mika Hannulas book Politics, Identity and Public Space: Critical Reflections in and through the Practices of Contemporary Art, I discuss how the stories I tell trough my project can be seen as suggestions for a possible reality. By adding my stories to the old ones (that create our society) I hope they, if only just the slightest, can influence on how we look at reality and on a possible reality.                                   In my essay I describe how the school gym and the gym class is characterized by a scientific way of looking at students, the human body and education and that this clashes with the complexity of us as humans. I describe how norms for sex and gender become very distinct during gym class, because of the students vulnerability, and how that can create an unsafe space for them. Even though it’s often not their intention, students who break these norms become political because they show us that the norms are not stabile. With their presence, they question the ways that they and their classmates have been taught to behave.                       In my master project, “the little girl” is very present. In the essay I explain how I through my master project, aim to create a more complex image of who this person can be. I describe her as “the little girl” because I think that we are used to see this person as mainly her gender and her littleness/harmlessness. Not dividing the characters actions into either good or bad is also an important part of my work. Instead I try to focus on the characters actions as ways of surviving, or ways of using loopholes in power structures, as a way of getting around a lack of symbolic capital. I have also looked at the word manipulation and tried to see if it could be seen as a positive and creative feature and as a way to these loopholes.                       I have also talked about the possibility of being political without using classic patriarchal attributes such as strength and certainty, through the text Vi vill inte, vi kan inte, vi törs inte/We don’t want, we can’t, we don’t dare. This way of looking as uncertainty, as something positive, was something that I discussed with Håkan Larsson, a professor at The Swedish School of Sport and Health Sciences. During my interview with him we discussed this as a counterweight to the sports contexts noncomplex view on people. To strive towards this uncertainty in my work might be the most political I can do.

Kjellberg, Sebastian, Axelsson, Ida January 2012 (has links)
Nyckelord: Kosttillskott, gym, kunskap

Health Loop : Approachable, understandable, and engaging fitness for everyday people

Warren, Alistair January 2014 (has links)
This thesis project reconsiders the purpose and effectiveness of public, free-to-use outdoor gyms, resulting in the Health Loop nine-station outdoor gym. The project identifies three key areas of failings in existing gyms: intimidation, lack of understanding, and lack of enjoyment. The design solution creates a gym which focuses firstly on providing a comfortable, appealing, approachable space and equipment. This is achieved through simplicity, a non-sporting atmosphere, and targeting the workout to relatively inactive people. The second key focus is on quick-to-understand, engaging, enjoyable workout routines for each station. This aspect is delivered through an interactive digital display and sensors to provide gamified routines and feedback.

HEALTH, FITNESS, NEOLIBERALISM AND NICHE MARKETS: DOES PLANET FITNESS DELIVER?

Malley, LIAH 06 February 2014 (has links)
In today’s neoliberal climate, a burgeoning health consciousness pervades American society. Health and fitness discourses are increasingly framed through neoliberal ideologies, contributing to the rise of “healthism”. This theory prescribes that health should be taken up as an individual responsibility and moral obligation. Healthism, coupled with societal pressure to adhere to certain cultural bodily ideals, propels individuals to take ownership of their health and well-being. More specifically, Americans are encouraged to strive towards cultivating a “healthy” body, which is a fit body, because the physical body has come to symbolize health and morality. With the phenomenal growth of the health and fitness industry, gyms have become an increasingly popular venues where individuals go to address their health and fitness needs. However, class status plays a critical role in Americans’ capacity to pursue health-promoting knowledge and resources. Structural barriers related to economic inequalities alienate individuals of low-socioeconomic status from mainstream health practices, including gym participation. The current project draws upon ethnographic fieldwork in a commercial gym in the Boston, Massachusetts area. Through a qualitative investigation of Planet Fitness, I seek to contribute to the empirical base of knowledge surrounding gyms, specifically, and health and fitness discourses, at large. Planet Fitness, a hugely successful gym franchise across the United States, has developed a unique brand that recognizes the various economic and social barriers that prevent and discourage gym participation. Findings reveal that by dramatically lowering the price of memberships, developing an inclusive environment, called the “Judgment Free Zone”, and offering the convenience of nearly 700 locations nationwide, Planet Fitness makes health and wellness more affordable and accessible for Americans. / Thesis (Master, Sociology) -- Queen's University, 2014-02-03 09:31:17.172

Babic, Igor January 2017 (has links)

Svensson, Annica January 2012 (has links)
In the United States, see recommendations for cardiac safety of sports arenas but also to health and fitness facilities. However, this does not exist in Sweden today. Objective: The purpose of this study is to identify the health- and fitness facilities today are equipped with respect to cardiac safety and specifically relating to preparedness for cardiac arrest. Method: Quantitative data are collected and compiled with the help of a questionnaire. The questionnaire contained 19 questions in total. Random selection of plants and a total of 263 facilities contributed 88 plants in the study. The loss was 67 %. Results: Of the 88 facilities was the 94 % who were trained and certified in cardiac cardiopulmonary resuscitation and 66 % in advanced cardiac cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Just over half of all plants had AED. Half of the establishments, which had more than 10 minutes to the nearest hospitals had no AED and of these, 75 % were privately owned. Conclusion: Preparedness for cardiac arrest on our health and fitness facilities seems to be good, for example, most of the facilities that responded to the questionnaire had AED and practical training of the staff. Most are also trained and certified in cardiac cardiopulmonary resuscitation. But there is room for improvement, for example, only about half of all holdings with > 10 minutes to the hospital had no AED and three facilities lacked both AED and trained staff in CRP. Guidelines are needed on preparedness for acute cardiac events on health and fitness facilities in Sweden, just as there are in the United States today.

Karlberg, Lisa, Andersson, Elna January 2014 (has links)

Roth, Sabine January 2014 (has links)
