ONE MORE TIME : A comparison of Hades with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Behavioral Activation Therapy in the treatment of depression

Westberg, Rasmus, Essel, Anette January 2021 (has links)
This paper explores how the mechanics and the narrative of the game Hades compare to theories and methods of the proven psychotherapies Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Behavioral Activation Therapy (BA), specifically in treatment of depression symptoms. The research was done by conducting a partial close reading of the game, followed by an overview of threads on the social media site Reddit relating to Hades and depression symptoms. The results were further analysed through examining how they compare to the previously aforementioned treatments. The research found several of the game's mechanics could be mapped to methods of both CBT and BA, and noteworthy connections could be drawn between how Hades could impact its players and the ideal outcomes of the said psychotherapies. The results open possibilities for further interesting studies within the area.

[pt] A DESCIDA DE CRISTO À MANSÃO DOS MORTOS: UMA PERSPECTIVA TEOLÓGICA LATINO-AMERICANA / [en] THE DESCENT OF CHRIST IN TO HELL: A LATIN AMERICAN THEOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

ROBERTO MARCELO DA SILVA 15 April 2020 (has links)
[en] This project objective is to highlight the most expressive theological interpretations about Christ s descent to the death manor (triumph, preaching and solidarity). With the main features contained in the theological reflection in this scientific faith article, we will try to present Christ s descent in to hell as a type for the Church liberator performance and praxis, showing like an old faith article can be translated in order to make sense to the believers from the XXI century. Therefore, if Christ descended in to hell he would descend until our realities and our social challenges. By the analogy, we could say that it would be the death manor such as Sheol, Hades, Hell and Rephaim, Christ would have descended to our human condition, often without hope, socially unseen or incapable to act because of an oppression system. The church performance would be the same as the one promoted by Christ. When he preached taking a new redemption opportunity to the deceased abode or when Christ was body and soul solidary for every accomplishments that could take part of God’s grace. It s an attempt to give an ecclesiastic praxis by the Christological and soteriological interpretations about the descensus, which Christ s descent to the deceased abode gets inserted into LatinAmerican context.

The figure of Hades/Plouton in Greek beliefs of the archaic and classical periods

Sekita, Karolina January 2015 (has links)
The main aim of this work is the presentation, characterisation and review of the image of the Greek underworld deity, Hades/Plouton in Greek beliefs of the Archaic and Classical periods, on the basis of comparison of the preserved literary and epigraphic testimonies with the remains of material culture, and the reconstruction of the most coherent possible image of the god, claimed by scholars to be of little importance to Greek beliefs and to have no cult. The present dissertation liberates the god from long-standing scholarly misconceptions and returns him to his proper place within the Greek pantheon. Its main scholarly contribution and originality can be summarised as follows: (i) Hades is mainly an agricultural deity with a clear cult environment and has more in common with the world of the living than that of the dead; (ii) Hades influenced the representation of other male deities connected with earth: his main attribute, paradoxically the cornucopia or 'horn of plenty', appears for the first time in Greek art in the 6th century BC as exclusively his, and is later ascribed to other deities; (iii) Hades and Plouton were the same deity (Plouton - an Attic instantiation - spread throughout Greece with Attic literature and the Eleusinian cult of Demeter and Kore), sharing the same myths, and both, through the properties inscribed in their names (invisibility in Hades' and corn in Plouton's), referring to the earth; both names are products of the conceptualisation of the world of the dead; (iv) contrary to the prevailing scholarly view, the multiplicity of Hades' names is not exclusively the result of euphemism (which I propose to see rather as a by- product): the nomenclature is more complex and depends principally on cultic or mythological contexts and local tradition. My work not only reconstructs the repertoire of Greek ideas and opinions on Hades and the character of his cult, but also advocates a new understanding of the notion of Greek deity, as metonymy: Hades is representative of a wider class of deities who are concrete and abstract at the same time (like Gaia [the Earth], Uranos [the Sky], Okeanos [the Sea]): they denote a place, a god, a property of something, a form of matter.

Moriniere, Emilie 28 March 2008 (has links) (PDF)

Electric Field and Drift Characteristics Studies for the Multiwire Chambers of the Third Plane of HADES

Kanaki, Kalliopi 31 March 2010 (has links) (PDF)
Aim of this report is the investigation of suitable operational conditions for the drif{}t chambers MDC III installed in the HADES setup. The simulations performed showed that operating the drif{}t chambers in a mode with nearly constant electron drif{}t velocity in a predominant part of the cell allows a more precise and fast tracking. This is particularly important for electrons and positrons; here the invariant dilepton mass must be reconstructed with high precision to get a resolution of $\Delta M/M\approx 1\%$ for the $\omega$ and $\phi$ mass peaks and thus a chance to verify also small in-medium mass shif{}ts. This helps to realize the physics program at HADES which focuses on the search for such mass shif{}ts to get insight into the in-medium behaviour of hadrons in dense strongly interacting matter.

Extensible Software Architecture for a Distributed Engineering Simulation Facility

May, James F 03 October 2013 (has links)
A need has arisen for an easy-to-use, flexible, transparent, and cross-platform communication backbone for configuration and execution of distributed simulations and experiments. Open source, open architecture, and custom student written pro- grams have extended the capabilities of educational research facilities and opened the way for the development of the architecture presented in this thesis. The architecture is known by the recursive acronym hADES: hADES Architecture for Distributed Engineering Simulation. Included in this thesis is a discussion of the design and implementation of the novel hADES software architecture for Ethernet and wireless IEEE 802.11 network-based distributed simulation and experiment facilities. The goal of this architecture is to facilitate rapid integration of new and legacy simulations and laboratory equipment to support undergraduate and graduate research projects as well as educational classroom activities and industrial simulation and experiments.

Some Eschatological Views of the Fate of the Wicked in Human History

Brown, Ormonde Stanly 01 January 1941 (has links)
The writer expresses the hope that this treatment of an important subject may be found interesting--he knows this it can scarcely be found pleasant reading. It is our purpose to treat of the "eschatological views of the fate of the wicked"--Hell ideas entertained--"in human history". These are many. While most of them agree at some points, the range of ideas is broad, and "human history" is broad. We wish to emphasize our disinterest, for the purpose of this thesis, in eschatological views of the reward of the "good," save to say that, generally, this is but 'the other side of the shield,' having a definite correspondence to its opposite. We make no claim to give either an exhaustive or erudite treatment of our subject, but attempt rather to outline the major views of the field, relating them to, and in some instances tracing their influence upon, human history.
