Evaluating the Knowledge and Attitudes of Orthopedic Nurses Regarding the Use of SPHM Algorithms as a Standard of Care

Doire, Terry L 01 January 2019 (has links)
Background: Healthcare workers are ranked among one of the top occupations for musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) injuries that affect the muscles, the bones, the nervous system and due to repetitive motion tasks (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). Numerous high-risk patient handling tasks such as lifting, transferring, ambulating and repositioning of patients cause injuries that can be prevented when evidence-based solutions are used for safe patient handling and mobility (SPHM) tasks. Purpose: The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of orthopedic nurses regarding the use of SPHM algorithms as the standard of care when transferring patients. Theoretical Framework. Lewin’s Theory of Change Methods. A quasi-experimental pretest-post-test design was utilized in this evidenced-based practice project. Results. Descriptive statistics that evaluated pre and post questionnaires of the orthopedic nurses noted nurses displayed behavioral and attitudinal intent to use the SPHM algorithms as the standard of care to improve patient outcomes by decreasing falls. Although the behavioral beliefs and attitudes reflected acknowledgement of SPHM skills and knowledge, nursing did not improve in their documentation of SPH fall risk as two separate tools were required on each patient. Conclusions: SPHM evidenced-based standards do guide staff to critically examine how to safely transfer and mobilize a patient. Patient fall rates did decrease during educational sessions, prompting the need for on-going education of all staff on the unit that transfers patients. The findings from this quality project may encourage future practice approaches to use of the safe patient handling (SPH) fall risk assessment tool for all patients to prevent patient falls.

A systematic approach to model predictive controller constraint handling : rigorous geometric methods

Campher, Andre Herman 03 October 2011 (has links)
The models used by model predictive controllers (MPCs) to predict future outcomes are usually unconstrained forms like impulse or step responses and discrete state space models. Certain MPC algorithms allow constraints to be imposed on the inputs or outputs of a system; but they may be infeasible as they are not checked for consistency via the process model. Consistent constraint handling methods - which account for their interdependence and disambiguate the language used to specify constraints – would therefore be an attractive aid when using any MPC package. A rigorous and systematic approach to constraint management has been developed, building on the work of Vinson (2000), Lima (2007) and Georgakis et al. (2003) in interpreting constraint interactions. The method supports linear steady-state system models, and provides routines to obtain the following information:

effects of constraint changes on the corresponding input and output constraints,

feasibility checks for constraints,

specification of constraint-set size and

optimal fitting of constraints within the desirable input and output space.

Mathematical rigour and unambiguous language for identifying constraint types were key design criteria. The outputs of the program provide guidance when handling constraints, as opposed to rules of thumb and experience, and promote understanding of the system and its constraints. The metrics presented are not specific to any commercial MPC and can be implemented in the user interfaces of such MPCs. The method was applied to laboratory-scale test rigs to illustrate the information obtained. / Dissertation (MEng)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Chemical Engineering / unrestricted

Saving Our Backs: Reducing Low Back Forces, Investigating Pain, and Observing Multifidus

Larson, Robert Eugene 15 July 2020 (has links)
BACKGROUND: Healthcare workers are among the most injured workers in the United States. This is due to the high rate of patient handling. The low back is the most injured in this population. This study observed biomechanical factors and how these factors affect low back and ground reaction forces. This study further investigated pain and its relationship to low back force, multifidus cross-sectional area, and multifidus activation in healthcare workers. METHODS: The 45 participants included 10 healthy subjects in the preliminary study and 35 active healthcare workers in the main study. Subjects filled out the VAS to determine current pain level. Ultrasound images of the multifidus muscles were taken. The participants were fitted with reflective markers and surface EMG sensors. A series of patient transfers at various bed heights using three different transfer devices was undertaken. The transfer devices included a Cotton sheet, a Skil-Care™ Transfer Sling, and an AirPal® device. RESULTS: There was a downward trend in resultant low back force when comparing lower bed heights to higher. Therefore, the highest bed position was determined to be optimal. There were significant differences in low back force between self-chosen and optimal bed heights among healthcare workers. There was no significant difference between peak low back or ground reaction forces between pain and nonpain groups. There was a significant difference in multifidus cross-sectional area between these groups at S1, a trend toward significance at L5, and no difference at L4. There was a trend toward significance when comparing multifidus activation between these groups as recorded by surface EMG. CONCLUSIONS: Healthcare workers should choose higher bed heights and appropriate equipment to reduce low back force and those who have smaller multifidus have more pain.

Nästa generations reglage för ledstaplare och låglyftare

Elmdahl, Johan January 2022 (has links)
This thesis report will show the process and result of the bachelor thesis “Next generation of handles for stackers and powered pallet trucks,” done in collaboration with Toyota Material Handling Manufacturing Sweden. This project aims to develop ergonomic and intuitive solutions where the focus lies on the interaction between the driver and the truck, how the different functions are controlled, and the needs of the future truck driver. The project follows the principle of the design process with an analysis phase, a creative phase, and a presentation phase. In the analysis phase, the product’s positive and negative parts have been analyzed through user testing, interviews, and driving tests; these tests have laid the foundation for the final concept. During the creative phase, brainstorming and discussion rounds were executed with supervisors and colleagues at TMHMS, resulting in a concept proposal. The concept was then brought to life with a clay model, a first 3D print, and finally, a finished 3D-printed model. The new concept forms new ways to interact with the truck, making the truck driver’s day easier and exploring new ways to use the handle.

Köp av sexuella handlingar på nätet : Laglig porrkonsumtion eller sexköp enligt 6 kap. 11 § BrB? / Purchase of sexual acts online : Legal porn consumption or sex purchase according to 6 kap. 11 § BrB?

Nyström, Sophie January 2021 (has links)

Onboard computer fault-tolerance detection and mitigation

Olofsson, Gustav January 2020 (has links)
The aim for this thesis is to design a software library responsible for preventing, detecting, handling and logging faults caused by radiation in a representable flight computer system based on the Cobham Gaisler GR740 quad-core LEON4FT processor chip. The LEON processor family is commonly used in space applications and it is based on the open SPARC instruction set and has been extended with fault tolerant features to cope with both on-chip radiation effects as well as upsets in external memory. The new GR740 device introduces a new computer architecture with multiple buses as compared to previous chips, Level-2 cache and a memory scrubber accelerating fault mitigation in external SDRAM memories. As the processor system design keeps getting more complex it also requires software to handle more hardware and new events, including central handling and logging routines of faults. The report describes the analysis performed to identify sources of faults and proposed suitable mitigation techniques, the established software requirements and how they are translated into a software architecture, then implemented and finally demonstrated on hardware. Along with this, it is shown how the developed demonstrator application software library can be integrated into the RTEMS real-time operating system commonly used in European space missions. The results are based on the demonstrator execution, and the results show that the software is functionally working and validates that the performance of the scrubber matches the derived scrubbing timings. After the project is completed, the software library design will be evaluated for use in Cobham Gaisler’s payload computer platform for the GOMX-5 mission. Radiation upsets will be emulated by injecting faults while running the developed API on demonstrator applications. Furthermore, implementation of software into NASA cFS/cFE will be analysed.
