Healt Locus of Control i relation till hälsa : - en studie om motionsvanor, matvanor och självkänsla hos lärarkandidater

Hurtig, Agneta January 2006 (has links)
<p>The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Health Locus of Control, Exercise habits, Food habits and Self-esteem (Personal self and Physical self) between two groups of student teachers at a university in the south of Sweden. Is health such as exercise, eating and self-esteem something that is controlled by internal or external factors? Student teachers that participated in Physical and Health programme and student teachers that participeted in other programme were investigeted. The participants (N = 160) answered the questionnaire. The Health Locus of Control scale and Tennessee Self-Concept Scale were used. A form was constructed to measure the students exercise habits and food habits. The study showed differences between the two groups of student teachers concerning Internal HLoC and Exercise habits. A positive tendency concerning Phycial self was also found. The results showed that there were positive correlations between the variables Health Locus of Control, Exercise habits, Food habits, Personal self and Physical self. Negative correlations were also found, between the variables Health Locus of Control and Physicals self. The study showed that the programme a student was participating in, only could explain a students Exercise habits. The result also showed that a students Food habits only could be explained by how the student think of their body and their appearance.</p>

Personlighet, hälsobeteende och attityder till friskvård : Hos personal på Försäkringskassa i en medelstor stad i södra Sverige

Bergström, Jessica January 2006 (has links)
<p>Objectives. The aim of the present study was to examine the relationship between the personality variables Multidimensional Health Locus of Control (MHLC), Negativ affect and Social inhibition (the D-personality), and health behavior and attitudes toward keep-fit measures.</p><p>Methods. The participants in this study were 170 embloyees at a regional social insurance office in a midsize town in the south of Sweden. Scales concerning health behavior and attitudes toward keep-fit measures were constructed and the participants completed these scales as well as those of MHLC and D-personality.</p><p>Results. Participants with strong beliefs that other people, such as doctors or family-members, are responsible for their health, showed a more positive attitude as to keep-fit measures than those with a belief that health is controlled by themselves. The D-personality was significantly related to negative health behaviors.</p><p>Conclusions. This study suggest that different personality-types show different health behavior and attitudes toward keep-fit meausures and therefore are in need of different kinds of support in order to promote a good health. This is especially relevant for persons with a high level of negativ affect and social inhibition.</p>

The Relationship of Health Literacy and Locus of Control to Medication Compliance in Older African Americans.

Armstrong, Karen Andrea 21 August 2007 (has links)
ABSTRACT Many older African American adults have inadequate health literacy and are more likely to have chronic illnesses needing medication therapy. African Americans continue to experience significant health disparities in the incidences of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. It was postulated that ethnic disparities in medication compliance are related to a dynamic interplay between low health literacy and health locus of control. Thirty older African Americans taking at least one prescription medication were interviewed. Although the vast majority was well-educated, only 53% displayed adequate health literacy. Most of the participants believed they controlled their health, and over half were noncompliant with their medications. Poor health literacy and health locus of control appeared to influence medication compliance in older African Americans.

Master’s theses are carried out at Vilnius Pedagogical University, at the faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology department of Psychological didactics. The investigation is based on K. Wallston’s 1978 methodology of Multidimensional scale of Health locus control and on A. Petrulyte 1985 self evaluation scale. The main purpose of the work is to analysis specific features of health locus control and self - evaluation of soldiers of compulsory military service. In research involvement 239 soldiers of compulsory military service and 240 students of Klaipėda University. The investigation showed that the average of soldiers of compulsory military service and students health locus control index is different. The soldiers and students is rely on HLC ( = 24,80), but there is a tendency that the PHLC ( = 22,20) is higher than CHC ( =20,26). The analysis showed that solders and students CHC negatively and statistically correlates with cognitive self – evaluation (r = -0,119 p = 0,009). Students HLC positively and statistically correlates with emotional self – evaluation (r = 0,130 p = 0,045), students CHC negatively and statistically correlates with cognitive self – evaluation (r = -0,205 p = 0,001). Soldiers of compulsory military service HLC, CHC and PHLC health locus of control did not statistically correlates with cognitive and emotional self – evaluation.

A survey of breastfeeding attitudes and health locus of control in the Nigerian population

Adegbayi, A., Scally, A., Lesk, Valerie E., Stewart-Knox, Barbara 16 May 2023 (has links)
Yes / Breastfeeding is important to infant health and survival in sub-Saharan Africa. To promote breastfeeding effectively, understanding of psychological factors associated with infant feeding choices is required. This study investigated breastfeeding attitudes and health locus of control (HLoC) in a Nigerian community sample. Men and women (N=400) (71% female; mean age 34.2 years/ range 18–86 years) were recruited through community groups in Nigeria. Self-report survey by questionnaire measured breastfeeding attitudes using the Iowa Infant Feeding Attitude Scale (IIFAS) and health locus of control using the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale (MHLoCs). IIFAS scores (mean=57.7; sd=7.8) became less favourable with increasing age (p=0.02). Men had higher IIFAS scores (mean=58.6; sd=7.6) than women (mean=56.6; sd=8.0) indicating more favourable attitudes toward breastfeeding (p=0.02). Women scored higher than men on external chance HLoC (ECHLoC) (p=0.003) and external powerful others HLoC (EPHLoC) (p=0.02). Increasing age was associated with higher scores on ECHLoC (p<0.01) and EPHLoC (p<0.01). Multiple linear regression analysis was significant (p<0.001) and explained 7.8% of variance in breastfeeding attitude. Lower IIFAS scores, reflecting more negative attitudes to breastfeeding, were associated with higher ECHLoC (p<0.01) and EPOHLoC (p<0.05). Higher IIFAS scores, reflecting more positive attitudes to breastfeeding, were associated with greater IHLoC (p<0.01). Neither age nor gender were associated with IIFAS scores in the final model. This implies a need to explore health locus of control when promoting positive attitudes to breastfeeding and supporting families in breastfeeding advocacy.

Yes / Purpose – Randomised controlled trials identify causal links between variables but not why an outcome has occurred. This analysis sought to determine how psychological factors assessed at baseline influenced response to personalised nutrition. Design/methodology/approach – Web-based, randomised, controlled trial (RCT) was conducted across seven European countries. Volunteers, both male and female, aged over 18 years were randomised to either a non-personalised (control) or a personalised (treatment) dietary advice condition. Linear mixed model analysis with fixed effects was used to compare associations between internal and external health locus of control (HLoC), nutrition self-efficacy (NS-E) and self-report habit index (S-RHI) at baseline (N 5 1444), with healthy eating index (HEI) and Mediterranean diet index (MDI) scores between conditions post-intervention (N 5 763). Findings – An increase in MDI scores was observed between baseline and six months in the treatment group which was associated with higher NS-E (p / EU FP7 Project “Personalised nutrition: an integrated analysis of opportunities and challenges” (Contract No. KBBE. 2010.2.3–02, Project No. 265494)

Sveikatos kontrolės lokuso, depresiškumo ir agresyvumo palyginimas bei tarpusavio sąsajos sveikų ir sergančių širdies ir kraujagyslių ligomis asmenų gupėse / Health locus of control, depressiveness and aggressiveness interface and comparison between cardiovascular disease patients and healthy population

Balsytė, Grytė 21 June 2011 (has links)
Darbe yra analizuojama sveikatos kontrolės lokuso, depresiškumo, agresyvumo tarpusavio sasąjos bei skirtumai sergančiųjų širdies ir kraujagyslių ligomis bei sveikų suaugusiųjų grupėse. Tyrime dalyvavo 203 tiriamieji, t.y. 100 širdies ir kraujagyslių ligomis sergančių, stacionare besigydančių pacientų, ir 103 sveiki suaugę, kurie sudarė kontrolinę grupę. Apklausti 88 vyrai (43,3 proc.) ir 115 moterų (56,7 proc.) kurių amžiaus pasiskirstymas 35-89 metai, o vidurkis 62,21 metų (SD.=10,855). Sveikatos kontrolės lokusas nustatytas Daugiamate sveikatos kontrolės lokuso skale, A forma (MHLC-Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale; Wallston, Wallston, DeVellis, 1978), depresiškumas įvertintas Beko depresijos klausimynu (BDI-Beck Depression Inventory; Beck, Ward, Mendelson, Mock, Erbaugh, 1961), agresyvumas - Perkeltos agresijos klausimynu (DAQ- The Displaced Aggression Questionnaire; Denson, Pedersen, Miller, 2006). Sergantys širdies ir kraujagyslių ligomis labiau, nei sveiki pasižymi depresiškumu ir agresyvumu emociniame bei kognityviniame lygmenyse. Pacientams labiau būdingas išorinis kitų poveikio, o vyrams ir vidinis sveikatos kontrolės lokusas. Moterims būdingas stipriau išreikštas agresyvumas emociniame lygmenyje bei kitų poveikio sveikatos kontrolės lokusas lyginant su vyrais. Jaunesnis pacientų amžius susijęs su aukštesniu agresyvumo lygiu, tačiau vyresni vyrai, priešingai, stipriau išreiškia agresyvumą elgesiu, o moterys – depresiškumą. Priklausomai nuo šeimyninės... There were 203 participants in this study, 100 were in-patients with cardiovascular disease and 103 control group healthy adults. 88 of them were men (43,3 %) and 115 women (56,7 %) between 35 and 89 years of age, mean of age is 62,21 years (SD.=10,855). Health locus of control was assassed with Multidimesional Health Locus of Control Scale, A form (MHLC; Wallston, Wallston, DeVellis, 1978). Depessiveness was assessed with Beck Depression Inventory (BD; Beck, Ward, Mendelson, Mock, Erbaugh, 1961) and aggressiveness - with The Displaced Aggression Questionnaire (DAQ; Denson, Pedersen, Miller, 2006). Patients with cardiovascular disease are more depressive and express more aggressiveness in affective and cognitive dimensions comparing with healthy population. Patients are more prone to external powerful others health locus of control, also men – to inner health locus of control. Women express higher scores in affective dimension agressiveness and powerful others health locus of control in comparison to men. Lower age is related with higher expressed aggressiveness in patients group, but, conversely, older men express higher behavioral displaced aggression, and women – depressiveness. There were no significant differences according to family state, in contrast to healthy population, what shows that... [to full text]

A Cross-Cultural Comparisons of Factors Related to Help-Seeking Attitudes for Psychological Disorder

Hirai, Michiyo 20 May 1999 (has links)
It has been reported that Asian people have negative views of mental illness, including beliefs that it is incurable and shameful. Asian people also tend to attribute causes of mental disorders to factors less susceptible to personal influence such as supernatural factors, and are likely to have an external health locus of control which reflects beliefs that health outcomes are a product of external factors such as luck. In the present study, each of the above constructs were compared between American and Asian students. In addition, the above constructs were used to predict self-report of utilization of various treatment modalities. Four inventories were developed to assess the above constructs and treatment preferences. Reliability and validity of the new measures were examined. Results revealed that Asian students were more likely than American students to identify psychological disorder as shameful and its sufferers as socially untrustworthy and dangerous. Asian students were also more likely to attribute the causes of psychological disorder to supernatural factors than American students, and were more likely to seek folk medicine remedies for psychological disorder than were American students were. Both American and Asian students endorsed family care as the most preferable treatment approach, followed by psychological intervention, medical intervention, folk medicine intervention, and no treatment. An internal mental health locus of control predicted participants' willingness to seek no treatment. Among Asian students, beliefs in the untrustworthiness of the mentally ill predicted their willingness to seek folk medicine treatment. Attribution of psychological disorder to supernatural causes predicted their unwillingness to seek medical treatment. Among American students, an internal mental health locus of control predicted participants' willingness to seek no treatment. Attribution of supernatural causes and an internal mental health locus of control predicted their willingness to seek folk medicine treatment. A belief that mentally ill people were untrustworthy predicted a preference for medical interventions. / Master of Science
