Preparing individuals with mental illnesses for disasters| A grant proposal

Blawn, Janet L. 06 June 2014 (has links)
<p> Natural disasters and catastrophic events have devastated hundreds of thousands of individuals worldwide. While governmental and disaster relief agencies attempt to respond as quickly as possible, individuals can be cut off from resources and services for extended periods, increasing stress and health complications. Individuals with mental illnesses are even more vulnerable in the aftermath of a disaster when they are cut off from vital medications and therapeutic services. Disaster preparedness promotes resilience and empowers individuals to take personal responsibility for their safety. The purpose of this project was to identify potential funding sources and write a grant proposal that funds the development and implementation of disaster preparedness classes for individuals living in the community with mental illnesses. Actual submission and/or funding of this grant was not a requirement for the successful completion of this project.</p>

Jansson, Sofie January 2016 (has links)
Health promotion leadership is complex and includes promoting health in the workplace. The study focuses on the salutogenetic perspective, health promotion, work-related stress, work environment legislation and leadership theories that can be linked to health promotion leadership. This study aims to investigate if leaders have knowledge about health-promoting leadership and access to resources that are health promoting. Eleven leaders from two organizations participated. Semi-structured interviews were conducted thematised through meaningful concentrator. The analysis showed several recurring statements amongst a majority of the respondents which were that the leaders did not view themselves as health- promoting leaders and their focus were on physical working environment rather than psychological. The perception of responsibility in the matter was unclear in both organizations and the leaders generally lacked knowledge of health promotion leadership while having access to health promoting resources.

As práticas de terapia ocupacional em CAPS AD / Occupational Therapy Practices in Psycosocial Care Centers for Alcohol and other Drugs users

Vieira, Aline Godoy 19 December 2014 (has links)
The public policies in Brazil called occupational therapists to answer to problematic drug consumers needs working on most health services intended for this purpose. The main public service for this specialized attention is the CAPS AD, recently created and in process of implementation. Initial literature review shows a small number of academic productions about the practices of occupational therapists to care for problematic drug consumers. This research is based on the collective health field of knowledge and practices; therefore, it values the historical processes in which occupational therapy developed and its relations with the structures of the health production system. We considered that: the current context of the health production system is either highly privatized or determined by the private logic of the production process; the drug is as commodity, product of the capitalist production process; and the way of life values consumption as a form of social relation. This investigation wants to answer the following question: What are the configurations of occupational therapists practices in the CAPS AD services? This is a qualitative exploratory and descriptive research. We collected data from nine interviews with occupational therapists that work or worked at CAPS AD, from different regions of the city and small cities around (metropolitan region of São Paulo). Data was analysed through a dialectic approach of content analysis, using the work process and its elements, as a category of analysis, as mediated by the state policy in the field of psychoactive substances. The results are: 1) the occupational therapists interviewed have unique trajectories that compose their resources for the work importantly, more than the techniques or the theories adopted in the field; 2) the work of occupational therapists influence the working process as a whole, as they have a formation strongly funded on public policies and on specific knowledge for perceiving and acting over the management of the institution. Furthermore, there is a specific configuration of working tools common to the respondents: guidelines of state policies, horizontality, critical doing, inquisitive questioning that produces critical reflection, specific understanding and intervention on the concreteness and materiality of life, work, creative processes and aesthetics, besides the use of social networks. We conclude that: the object of the OTs labour process that was more pronounced was the individual of social relations and creative potential; and the purpose of the practices developed to care for drug users was the possibility of expanding these individuals horizons to relate in society as citizens of rights

As adaptações e improvisações no trabalho hospitalar e suas implicações na saúde do trabalhador de enfermagem / The adaptations and improvisations in hospital work and its implications in the health of worker

Luana dos Santos Cunha 04 March 2010 (has links)
The current setting of public health institutions is characterized by the peculiarities of the model of productive restructuring in the downsizing of public administration results in a context of precarious working conditions. Among the scarcity and inadequacy of material resources and lack of human resources, nursing workers are faced with the need to develop adaptation and improvisation of materials, equipment and even personnel. In front of this problematic situation, was selected as the object of study: the perception of nursing workers on the adaptations and improvisations in hospital work and its implications in the health of the worker. This study shows as objectives: to identify the perception of nursing on the adaptations and improvisations, to describe the situations that lead to nursing workers to carry out this practice and to examine the implications of the adaptations and improvisations in workers' health care. A qualitative and descriptive research, the scene was a public university hospital, located in Rio de Janeiro. The subjects were twenty employees of nursing teams, working in the fields of intensive care and surgical wards. Data were collected through semi-structured interview, in July of 2009. The sample was thematic content analysis, which enabled the creation of four empiric categories: Category 1: Contexts and determinants of adaptations / improvisations; Category 2: Prerequisites for the implementation of adaptations / improvisations; Category 3: Subjective aspects linked the practice of adapt / improvise and Category 4: The positive face and negative face of adapt / improvise - the impact on workers' health. It was concluded that the perceptions of nursing practice of adapt / improvise characterized contradictory or dialectical, with responses that involve the suffering and pleasure, satisfaction and dissatisfaction, motivation and demotivation, among other contradictions. It was found that the adaptations and improvisations are designed predominantly, to ensure that care is provided, because in front of a precarious context, the lack of resources almost render impossible to provide care, and this practice is characterized as a ruse or an adjustment in the work process which ensures that the task is fulfilled. It was found that this practice has negative impacts on health, despoiling the nursing workers physically and mentally.

Förstärkt föräldraskap - utökade hembesök : Barnhälsovårdssköterskors och föräldrarådgivares erfarenheter av att stödja föräldrar i deras föräldraskap / Enhanced parenting - extended homevisits : Child health nurses and parenting counselor experiences of supporting parents in their parenting

Didriksson, Emilia, Gripenwald, Iri January 2019 (has links)
Background: The parenting usually entails great joy but can also involve major challenges. Parenting is not always experienced positively, on occasion it can be very stressful. Studies show that early intervention can enhance the parenting role and promote connection between the child and the parent and thus facilitate illness prevention in children.  Aim: To illustrate child health, nurses and parenting counselors provided extended home visits for new parents.    Method: A qualitative design and the phenomenological approach are used. Seven interviews were carried out with Child health nurses and parenting counselors. The results were analyzed with a content analysis.  Results consist of four headings; Prerequisites for good cooperation, The importance of the meeting place, Concrete support for parents, Challenges to support parents  Conclusion: The result shows that the project helped child health nurses and parenting counselors provide increased security and support in the parenting role. They have learned that the collaboration in the project has been experienced positively as they together can support families with their specific knowledge. Their view is that the families appreciate the support offered and it is easier for them to discuss sensitive topics in their own home. The prerequisites for being able to respond to challenges in the project require staff support from the manager and training in different cultural approaches.

The Mendocino County Emergency Response Team| A grant proposal

Woldemar, Heather 09 August 2013 (has links)
<p> The purpose of this project was to locate a potential funding source and write a grant to support funding for the Emergency Response Team (ERT) program. The ERT will use solution-based practices within the Mendocino County Health and Human Services Agency to support family stabilization. An ERT would enable children and families to access multidisciplinary team services, including mental health and alcohol/drug services, immediately after a referral to Child Protective Services. This approach will allow families to address their needs for stabilization and ensure streamlined support, thus reducing the potential for children to be removed from the home or shorten the duration of the removal. Ultimately, this approach will ensure families access to appropriate levels of mental health and alcohol or drug service supports to enhance the well being of children, families, and the community. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant were not a requirement for the successful completion of this project.</p>

A dementia education and assessment program for Latinos residing in Orange County, California| A grant proposal

Santos, Abraham 31 March 2015 (has links)
<p> Since age has been identified as a leading risk factor for the development of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) and as the U.S. population ages, ADRD has become a community concern. Latinos face greater risk due to systemic psychosocial stressors such as limited community-based supportive services, lack of trained bilingual health care professionals, and low quality of treatment and preventative care. The purpose of this project was to develop a dementia program targeting the underserved Latino community of Orange County, California, identify potential funding sources, and develop a grant proposal on behalf of the Orange County Vital Brain Aging Program at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian. The proposed program will increase awareness on ADRD while decreasing barriers in health care utilization through community-based education and psychosocial and cognitive assessments. The actual submission and/or funding of this grant were not requirements for the successful completion of this project.</p>

The impact of citizenship and immigration status, socioeconomic status, and gender on the mental health among Latino adolescents

Soriano, Adriana Castro 16 October 2014 (has links)
<p> Citizenship/immigration status, high poverty rates and gender specific issues, present a significant problem, when addressing the mental health needs of Latino adolescents. This study utilized data from the 2009 California Health Interview Survey (CHIS). The independent variables for the study were citizenship/immigration status, socioeconomic status, and gender. The dependent variable was mental health. To examine the relationship between the independent and dependent variables, a frequency and regression analysis was performed. The results of the study indicate that citizenship/immigration status and gender are significant predictors of mental health among Latino adolescents. The results of the study suggest that social workers, community leaders, community members, and mental health providers, should explore selecting effective interventions with optimal outcomes for the mental health of this population.</p>
