January 2011 (has links)
However, these practices are frequently based on theoretical and methodological approaches that promote analysis restricted to the immediate dimensions of intragroup relations. The organization of public primary health care (PHC) actions and services include teamwork as an organizational directive, and group processes are part of it. The expressions of the cooperation-collective work dialectic in the work process of PHC teams were investigated, employing the group process as an analysis unit. A historicaldialectical proposition of a concrete analysis of group processes was systematized and, subsequently, particularized to the case of PHC teamwork. First, constitutive mediations regarding the formation of human being as a social being were examined. The cooperation-collective work dialectic formulation was presented: the first pole (cooperation) is related to the historical-ontological foundations of work in the constitution of the social being of human being and the second pole (collective work) is related to the diverse historical forms that cooperation, as a part of human being's sociability, is used as means to the technical and social division of labour. After that, it was investigated the theoretical viability that group processes, as mediations of human being's social existence, consist on the analysis unit of cooperation-collective work dialetic. Thereafter, this formulation was particularized to the health care work process grounded on marxian theoretical-methodological referential. It was observed that health care teamwork shows up substantially in PHC and health care model changing proposals developed in Brazilian Unified Health System. This presence is regardless... As adaptações e improvisações no trabalho hospitalar e suas implicações na saúde do trabalhador de enfermagem / The adaptations and improvisations in hospital work and its implications in the health of worker

Luana dos Santos Cunha 04 March 2010 (has links)
The current setting of public health institutions is characterized by the peculiarities of the model of productive restructuring in the downsizing of public administration results in a context of precarious working conditions. Among the scarcity and inadequacy of material resources and lack of human resources, nursing workers are faced with the need to develop adaptation and improvisation of materials, equipment and even personnel. In front of this problematic situation, was selected as the object of study: the perception of nursing workers on the adaptations and improvisations in hospital work and its implications in the health of the worker. This study shows as objectives: to identify the perception of nursing on the adaptations and improvisations, to describe the situations that lead to nursing workers to carry out this practice and to examine the implications of the adaptations and improvisations in workers' health care. A qualitative and descriptive research, the scene was a public university hospital, located in Rio de Janeiro. The subjects were twenty employees of nursing teams, working in the fields of intensive care and surgical wards. Data were collected through semi-structured interview, in July of 2009. The sample was thematic content analysis, which enabled the creation of four empiric categories: Category 1: Contexts and determinants of adaptations / improvisations; Category 2: Prerequisites for the implementation of adaptations / improvisations; Category 3: Subjective aspects linked the practice of adapt / improvise and Category 4: The positive face and negative face of adapt / improvise - the impact on workers' health. It was concluded that the perceptions of nursing practice of adapt / improvise characterized contradictory or dialectical, with responses that involve the suffering and pleasure, satisfaction and dissatisfaction, motivation and demotivation, among other contradictions. It was found that the adaptations and improvisations are designed predominantly, to ensure that care is provided, because in front of a precarious context, the lack of resources almost render impossible to provide care, and this practice is characterized as a ruse or an adjustment in the work process which ensures that the task is fulfilled. It was found that this practice has negative impacts on health, despoiling the nursing workers physically and mentally.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, CAPES / Purpose: To identify the practices of sustainable human resources management and their impacts on health harm of work and organizational commitment. Thesis declaration: Sustainable human resources management practices favor the reduction of health harm of work and the increase of organizational commitment. Methodology: A qualitative research phase was developed to contextualize the integration of human resources management and sustainability, involving a sample comprised of companies classified in the Bovespa Sustainability Index 2016/2017. Subsequently, using descriptive research, a quantitative phase was carried out, based on a survey involving the participation of 290 employees of the said companies, in order to identify the variables related to the practices of sustainable human resources management and to test the proposed relations by using structural equation modeling. Findings: The results indicate that the practices of sustainable human resources management are represented by three dimensions: the attraction and retention of professionals, the maintaince of healthy and motivated professionals and the development of the professionals’ skills. In addition, these practices have a significant and negative impact on health harm of work, which are shown by the risk factors for psychological health, by the restrictions for positive health, and by the side effects of work. It was also apparent that the practices of sustainable human resources management have a significant and positive impact on affective and normative commitment, and the affective commitment stands out as a partial mediator of the relationship between the practices and the normative commitment. Practical implications: With regard to academic contributions, the present study enabled the empirical and comprehensive evaluation of the variables related to sustainable human resources management practices and their consequent elements, in convergence with the research agenda of the management field, which focuses on the results for the individuals(employees) and for the organizations. Gerencial implications: The identification and possible application of certain practices of sustainable human resources management as a way to minimize the damages to the health harm of work and to encourage the commitment are established with the main managerial contribution.

Assim sendo, estudamos a forma pela qual eles elaboram as suas relações com aquele processo de trabalho e o vivenciam em sua prática cotidiana / Abstract: Although the accidents involving loaded trucks of dangerous products are part of the reporter with certain frequency, therefore its consequences use to be catastrophic, either for the worker, the environment or the resident populations in the neighborhoods of the accident; few are the studies that they search to understand where conditions they occur. The concern biggest has been to create alternative for the logistic system, searching to take care of with bigger rapidity and efficiency the draining of the production. Although, this category is of basic importance in the national economy, it has not received the had attention from the authorities and many workers are still getting sick, dying in accidents that, were not enough for the immeasurable loss of its lifes, still they put at risk the environment and the bordering populations to the highways that pass through. Submitted to the specificity of the work process, which involves the conduction of a vehicle of great transport, the fuel transport and social relations, these workers also represent, live deeply and try the work in specific way. Therefore, it is proposed to study the way they prepare their relations with that process work and experience in their daily practice / Doutorado / Saude Coletiva / Doutor em Saude Coletiva

As práticas de terapia ocupacional em CAPS AD / Occupational Therapy Practices in Psycosocial Care Centers for Alcohol and other Drugs users

Aline Godoy Vieira 19 December 2014 (has links)
The public policies in Brazil called occupational therapists to answer to problematic drug consumers needs working on most health services intended for this purpose. The main public service for this specialized attention is the CAPS AD, recently created and in process of implementation. Initial literature review shows a small number of academic productions about the practices of occupational therapists to care for problematic drug consumers. This research is based on the collective health field of knowledge and practices; therefore, it values the historical processes in which occupational therapy developed and its relations with the structures of the health production system. We considered that: the current context of the health production system is either highly privatized or determined by the private logic of the production process; the drug is as commodity, product of the capitalist production process; and the way of life values consumption as a form of social relation. This investigation wants to answer the following question: What are the configurations of occupational therapists practices in the CAPS AD services? This is a qualitative exploratory and descriptive research. We collected data from nine interviews with occupational therapists that work or worked at CAPS AD, from different regions of the city and small cities around (metropolitan region of São Paulo). Data was analysed through a dialectic approach of content analysis, using the work process and its elements, as a category of analysis, as mediated by the state policy in the field of psychoactive substances. The results are: 1) the occupational therapists interviewed have unique trajectories that compose their resources for the work importantly, more than the techniques or the theories adopted in the field; 2) the work of occupational therapists influence the working process as a whole, as they have a formation strongly funded on public policies and on specific knowledge for perceiving and acting over the management of the institution. Furthermore, there is a specific configuration of working tools common to the respondents: guidelines of state policies, horizontality, critical doing, inquisitive questioning that produces critical reflection, specific understanding and intervention on the concreteness and materiality of life, work, creative processes and aesthetics, besides the use of social networks. We conclude that: the object of the OTs labour process that was more pronounced was the individual of social relations and creative potential; and the purpose of the practices developed to care for drug users was the possibility of expanding these individuals horizons to relate in society as citizens of rights

Meaning - centeredness in adult cancer patients in remission

Hamilton, Elma January 2014 (has links)
This study explores how cancer patients in remission derive meaning in their lives. A need for social work intervention was identified with cancer survivors, especially those patients who are in remission and who have to continue their lives, in spite of the incurable status of their cancer. In line with literature, the researcher, in her role as social worker at a radiation oncology clinic, observed that patients often report that they find benefit in the cancer experience. The framework for conducting this study is based on the existential theory and the ultimate concern of human existence, that life has meaning under all circumstances. Meaning and meaning-centeredness is described. The role of a meaning-centered approach to oncology social work was argued. The Meaning-Centered Counselling and Therapy (MCCT) model was described from a literature perspective, and proposed as an intervention model. MCCT offers a model that includes the existential domain in interventions. Within the context of this study, remission refers to the period that the cancer is under control. It may be that there is no indication of the cancer, but the cancer is expected to recur, or that some of the symptoms have disappeared, or that the progression of the cancer has slowed down. During remission, patients are under surveillance only, or on maintenance treatment. Thus, they do not have regular contact with the oncology team. Patients live with uncertainty and ambiguity, resuming activities, responsibilities, careers and relationships that were influenced by the cancer diagnosis and treatments. The demands of living in remission are described. This research study explores the quest for meaning in patients who are living with incurable, recurrent cancer. The goal of this research study was to explore meaning-centeredness in adult cancer patients who are in remission. This research study was guided by the following research question: “Does meaning-centeredness play a role in adult cancer patients’ coping with remission?” The research population included oncology patients who are in remission, and have experienced one or more recurrences, and where the cancer has metastasised. A qualitative approach was followed, using the collective case study design. The research was conducted at the Radiation Clinic, Sandton Oncology Centre in Morningside, Johannesburg. Data was collected using an interview schedule to guide 4 focus group interviews, totalling 21 participants, who were selected by means of purposive sampling. All participants gave voluntary and informed consent to take part, and the focus group interviews were voice-recorded, with their permission. The researcher transcribed these recordings. Creswell’s steps for qualitative data analysis were implemented. From the findings, the following themes and sub-themes were identified, demonstrating the search for meaning amongst these participants who are in remission and answering the research question: Theme 1: Meaning-construal associated with attribution with the sub-themes of hope, spirituality, and death awareness and a foreshortened future. Theme 2: Meaning-construal associated with appraisal, with the sub-themes of benefit finding, growth, relationships, and an increased appreciation of life, and prioritising. Theme 3: Meaning-construal associated with reappraisals, with sub-themes of sense of self, sense of coherence, assumptive world, adapting to new normal, and transcendence. The findings demonstrated that a perspective that provided the participants with the means to explore their unique meanings, purposes, and life tasks helped them to cope with remission and the fear or reality of recurrence or metastases. Participants were able to derive meaning in their lives despite living with incurable cancer. Participants, who had integrated the knowledge that their cancer is incurable and recurrent into their meaning-system, were able to adapt and adjust to living in remission. They had a sense of purpose and maintained realistic hope. Their hopes were proportional to the prognosis. They did not dwell on their own death, but focused on what life offers them each day. They developed a new normal that incorporates the knowledge of a foreshortened future, coping with side effects and late effects of treatment, and the uncertainty that the cancer is expected to recur or metastasise again. They were aware of their life tasks, and embraced life to the full. Intervention strategies, based on the existential oriented proposition that life has meaning under all circumstances, were recommended. This included the Meaning-Centered Counselling and Therapy (MCCT) model for integration in oncology social work. Recommendations in this study include enhancing the understanding of members of the transdisciplinary team regarding the needs and experiences of patients in remission. Furthermore, a better understanding of the role of meaning-centeredness intervention amongst oncology social workers can improve interventions, specifically for patients in remission. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2014. / lk2014 / Social Work and Criminology / MA / Unrestricted

The spiritual factors influencing the health-seeking behaviour amongst the Charismatic Christians in Johannesburg

Beukes, Simone Ashley January 2021 (has links)
Health-seeking behaviour encompasses the actions, thought processes and decision-making involved in establishing and maintaining a healthy physiological state. As such, various studies have investigated the factors that influence health-seeking behaviour. Such factors included demographic, socio-economic, political, religious and cultural factors. It was however, found that there was a lack of research regarding the specific factors of Charismatic Christians that affect health-seeking behaviour, thus guiding the research question. The aim of this study was to explore the spiritual factors influencing health-seeking behaviours of the Charismatic Christians in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Through a paradigm of interpretivism, research was conducted using a qualitative approach to explore and describe how the spiritual factors of Charismatic Christians influence health-seeking behaviour. An instrumental case study design was utilised in order to gain insight into the phenomenon of health-seeking behaviour, to create recommendations to facilitate practice and to refine theory to increase health-seeking behaviour among Charismatic Christians. This was done through the use of one-to-one, semi-structured interviews with participants, who were incorporated into the study through voluntary, purposive sampling. Previous studies found various factors affecting health-seeking behaviour, amongst these were religious factors. Furthermore, there were several studies that explored the health-seeking behaviours of Charismatic Christians, however, this was mainly focused on the mental health domain. To date, little research has been done into the general health-seeking behaviours of Charismatic Christians, which indicated the gap for the research study. The findings of the study both supported and contradicted the specific factors affecting health-seeking behaviour, found in the national and international studies in the literature review. However, the study agreed with the previous studies, that spiritual factors do affect the health-seeking behaviours of Charismatic Christians in Gauteng. It can be concluded that participants are not averse to seeking professional healthcare services that are easily accessible, however, unless the symptoms are severe, participants will engage in other methods of self-care prior to seeking healthcare services. Secondly, Charismatic Christianity was found to encourage health-seeking behaviour through teachings of self-control, self-respect, and healing through medicine. Thirdly, it was concluded that in some instances, Charismatic Christianity could deter individuals from health-seeking behaviour as they have a belief in divine healing from God, thus it is not necessary for them to seek formal healthcare services. Lastly, it was concluded that participants have had limited contact with social workers in the healthcare setting, thus limiting their knowledge regarding the role of social work, however, they are willing to engage with social workers in the healthcare settings, if services adhere to ethical standards. Based on the conclusions of the study, it was recommended that the healthcare team, including social workers, be knowledgeable about the spiritual factors influencing health-seeking behaviour, as well as remain non-judgemental and allow for autonomy of patients. It was further recommended that preventative healthcare be encouraged and promoted within healthcare settings. It was lastly recommended that patients have access to information regarding symptoms and severity, to encourage individuals to seek professional healthcare timeously. / Mini Dissertation (MSW (Healthcare))--University of Pretoria, 2021. / Social Work and Criminology / MSW / Unrestricted
