Axel Adolf Laurell ja Oikean teologian myytti

Luukkanen, T.-L. (Tarja-Liisa) 05 January 2016 (has links)

Abstract

Axel Adolf Laurell (1800–1852), theoretical philosopher by training, was Professor of Dogmatics at the University of Helsinki 1836–1852. In the history of Finnish theology, he has been rather ignored. The aim of this doctoral thesis has been two-fold: to analyze both Laurell and the later theological tradition that ignored him.

Laurell was one of the intellectually oriented theologians in Finland representing the view that university theology was a field of rational study, not a way of practicing religion. His qualifying thesis, already approved of by the official opponent, was rejected by the Faculty of Theology and by the Lutheran archbishop E. G. Melartin. However, Laurell gained the support of the Academic Senate and was appointed professor by Nikolai I.

Archive material depicting Laurell´s lectures on theology shows that he lectured, among other things, on the German controversy between rationalism and supranaturalism. He seems to have supported the idea of mediation between these two, an approach typical of to the school of Vermitttlungstheologie. Laurell began his career as a Hegelian, rejected Hegelianism in the 1840s and became interested in the questions of empirical study. Laurell was one of the Finnish academics who adopted ideas both from Herder and Hegel.

Laurell, during his formative years a member of the Saturday Society, a circle of reform-minded young intellectuals, was the most notable Finnish representative of pedagogics during his time. He was one of the founders of Helsingfors Lyceum in 1831 and the first headmaster of this school with its new, modern-type curriculum. According to him, “state” and “church” should not interfere in the matters of education.

Taking into account Mythologies by Roland Barthes and some international discussions on nationalistic myths, I have delineated the previously unrecognized myth of Genuine Finnish theology. Influential Finnish revivalist theologians adopted the biblical theology of Johann Tobias Beck during the latter part of the 19th century. From this standpoint they and notably history professor Ernst Gustaf Palmén, invented a religious-nationalistic interpretation of the 19th-century Finnish history. Scientifically significant theologians had been Beckians or revival movement sympathizers while Laurell, among other actual forerunners of rational research, were marginalized and forgotten.
/
Tiivistelmä

Väitöskirjani tarkastelee Lauantaiseuran jäsenen ja Helsingin yliopiston dogmatiikan ruotsinkielisen professorin Axel Adolf Laurellin (1800–1852) näkemyksiä ja toimintaa 1830-luvulta 1850-luvun alkuun sekä autonomian kaudesta kertovaa suomalaisen teologian oppitraditiota. Laurell on yksi tämän oppitradition vähättelemistä 1800-luvun teologeista.

Myytti on arvioinut aiempien tutkijoiden tieteellistä merkittävyyttä sen perusteella miten he suhtautuivat herännäisyyteen ja olivatko he suomenkielisiä.

Fenomen helsinské školy / Phenomenom of the Helsinki school

Zahradníčková, Kateřina January 2014 (has links)
This final thesis aims to introduce the reader with the Helsinki School phenomenon especially with the less known facts. The great deal of attention is dedicated to the historical development of teaching photography in Finland which precede the phenomenon itself. First chapter is chronologically ordered for better clarity, since the origination to present time. Other important part is dedicated to the term of the Helsinki School and to Timothy Persons as its founder. The third and last chapter is focused to selection of six artists of the Helsinki School. Their work is described by the monographic method. After reading my work, the reader should have a clear idea of what preceded the Helsinki School, what is characteristic for it and who are its members. I would like to approach the reader with this topic from as many angels as possible so that the picture of the Helsinki School is complete.

Yttrandefrihetens dilemma : en idécentrerad studie om yttrandefrihetens roll och begränsningar

Persson, Daniel January 2009 (has links)
This paper concerns the freedom of speech in our democracy and the principles underlying the restrictions. The study is aimed at using a descriptive theory to provide a useful basis for analyzing a justification of the role behind freedom of speech and its limitations. The analysis is made on the basis of the Swedish parliament debate in the form of motions and the non-governmental organization Swedish Helsinki Committee's report. The study has a focus on the law of hate speech and will be done with an idea centred analysis. On the basis of democratic theory, the central role of freedom of speech was clarified on the basis of a clear need for a reliable communication. An absence of this process could disrupt the democratic order. The theoretical function of restrictions is to maintain that reliable communication process where, for example, special circumstances, threats of violence and certain types of information were seen as examples of situations where the process could be in danger. The empirical result was largely in line with the theoretical conclusions. The ability to argue and keep open debates was seen as important building blocks in a democratic society and therefore implies the benefits of a reliable communication process. Justification for the restrictions was made with regard to harmful information, threatening circumstances and xenophobic organizations, who were examples of counter-productive expressions to the democratic order. However, the study showed that parliamentary motions and the Swedish Helsinki Committee often focused their justifications on different fundamental views which partly could be explained by the concepts of positive and negative freedom and the perception of minority rights. The findings indicated that the issue of restrictions on freedom of speech is extremely complex because of the varied opinions in the drafting of the law of hate speech. The dilemma of freedom of expression can therefore be seen as relevant up to this day.

Gemensamma åtgärder i harmoni? : En beskrivande fallstudie av regional miljöpolitisk koordination mellan nationell och internationell nivå. / Joint efforts in harmony? : A descriptive case study of regional environmental policy coordination between national and international levels.

Lind, Patrik January 2008 (has links)
The aim and scope of this study is to describe the coordination of joint efforts concerning chemicals and hazardous substances in the Baltic Sea region, between the Swedish Chemicals Agency (KemI) and the land-based pollution group of the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM LAND). Based on the description of the coordination, the second aim is to discuss the consequences for the Swedish Chemicals Agency in its policy shaping work towards a nontoxic environment. A qualitative and descriptive case study method is used for this purpose. Theories of coordination and achievement-inducing criteria for environmental goals are applied to the case. Components and related processes of coordination are applied to the descriptive part of the study, whilst the achievement-inducing criteria are applied in the discussion. The description of the coordination unveils a strong coordination regarding goal selection, goal decomposition and mapping activities to actors. It also confirms an interdependency between the two organisations, based on the fact that they have different institutional leverage, and thus addresses different types of actors. The result of the study shows that the coordination consequences do not lead to an independent Swedish chemicals policy. Due to limited data, the certainty of the conclusions based on the theoretical and empirical evidence found in this study can be discussed, and must therefore be subject to more empirical research.

Bikesharing as an intervention: Does it increase cycling? : A controlled interrupted time series study from Helsinki, Finland

Rego, Padraig January 2019 (has links)
Background Bikesharing is a versatile intervention, that enables cheap and convenient cycling for urban populations, and according to recent literature, has a positive impact on health, safety and the economy. Many of these impacts are based on the assumption of a modal shift induced by bikesharing, i.e. implementing a Bicycle Sharing System (BSS) will increase population cycling. However, the evidence is inconclusive. The aim of this study was to evaluate if the intervention of implementing a BSS increases cycling. The study was conducted using bicycle count data from Helsinki between 2014 to 2018. Methods A controlled interrupted time series design was used in combination with segmented regression as the method. An intervention series and a control series were analysed separately. The slopes (trend) and intercepts (level) of pre-intervention (2014&2015) segments were compared with post-intervention segments (2016-2018). The same analysis was performed in both intervention series and control series. ResultsThe results from the intervention series showed an increase of 105% in the level of the outcome after the implementation of the intervention. Simultaneously, the control series showed that the underlying trend of cycling remained largely unchanged during the whole study period (level increased by 3%). Stratified analysis supported these results in both intervention and control series. Conclusion The analysis of the intervention series revealed, that the level of the outcome increased sharply after the intervention, implying that the intervention had an immediate effect. However, the lack of statistical significance in the analysis of the slopes made it impossible to determine if the effect was sustained.

Regelverk för en hamnoperatör : I Östersjöområdet / Regulatory settings for a port operator : In Baltic sea region

Vaghoor Saleh, Kashani January 2019 (has links)
The following study that is the regulatory settings for a port operator has been conducted with the intention to comprehend and highlight the different regulatory settings appropriate for the sea ports in order to ensure safe, reliable and efficient trade and transportations practices at sea ports. The area of focus of this research work was towards the Baltic Sea region ports where the researcher focused on the evaluating the regulatory settings for four different ports in order to compare and contrast each other with the intention to validate every port follows certain regulations. The researcher with the support of secondary quantitative study with the deductive research approach has intended to answer the problem of this research work. The findings of this study have suggested that different regulations on the basis of the international conventions are strongly considered by the range of ports especially Port of Gdansk, Port of Helsinki, Port of Tallinn and Rostock ports that have examined. Nevertheless, there were also some regulations which not all the ports were following thereby confirming all the ports follow certain regulations which are in accordance with their changing scenarios.

Teorie a praxe dodržování lidských práv v České republice, zejména s ohledem na práva seniorů v zařízení sociálních služeb / The Theory and Practice of Human Rights in the Czech Republic, in Particular the Rights of Seniors in Social Services

Cmuntová, Petra January 2013 (has links)
Diploma thesis "The Theory and Practice of Human Rights in the Czech Republic, in Particular the Rights of Seniors in Social Services" deals with the theory and practice of human rights in our country with regard to the rights of seniors in social services. The work is divided into two parts. The first and second chapters forming the first part of the thesis deal with basic concepts and principles of human rights; how the idea of existence of human rights is explained, and they also focus on the history of human rights, so that the context, in which the idea of human rights was born, is clear and introduce a general view of the chosen topic to readers. The second part of the thesis, chapters three and four, at the beginning deals with the history of human rights in the Czech Republic with an emphasis on the period after 1945, and thereafter on a period after 1989 to the present. From the perspective of today, the rights of seniors in social services are presented. Governmental and non-governmental institutions dealing with human rights are introduced and the thesis also states the reports on the conditions of the rights of seniors in the social services, which result mainly from the Ombudsman's reports.

The hydropolitics of Southern Africa: the case of the Zambezi river basin as an area of potential co-operation based on Allan's concept of virtual water.

Turton, Anthony Richard 04 1900 (has links)
Southern Africa generally has an arid climate and many hydrologists are predicting an increase in water scarcity over time. This research seeks to understand the implications of this in socio-political terms. The study is cross-disciplinary, examining how policy interventions can be used to solve the problem caused by the interaction between hydrology and demography. The conclusion is that water scarcity is not the actual problem, but is perceived as the problem by policy-makers. Instead, water scarcity is the manifestation of the problem, with root causes being a combination of climate change, population growth and misallocation of water within the economy due to a desire for national self-sufficiency in agriculture. The solution lies in the trade of products with a high water content, also known as 'virtual water'. Research on this specific issue is called for by the White Paper on Water Policy for South Africa. / Political Sciences / M.A. (International Politics)
