Hochgeladene Ionen stellen einen extremen Zustand der Materie dar, wie sie vornehmlich in kosmischen Plasmen zu finden ist. Die labormäßige Erzeugung und (spektroskopische) Untersuchung hochgeladener Ionen liefert wichtige Daten und Erkenntnisse für die Astrophysik und Fusionsforschung. Aufgrund ihrer zum Teil exotischen Eigenschaften besitzen hochgeladene Ionen ein großes Potential für eine Vielzahl neuer Anwendungen. Die bisher weltweit einzige Elektronenstrahl-Ionenfalle, die hochgeladene Ionen bis hin zu vollständig ionisierten Ionen unter Raumtemperaturbedingungen erzeugen und bereitstellen kann, die Dresden EBIT, ist Gegenstand der vorgelegten Arbeit. Die Dresden EBIT zeichnet sich neben ihrer Kompaktheit und einer einfachen Bedienung durch ihre Langzeitstabilität aus. Sowohl über Röntgenspektren als auch über die Extraktion der Ionen aus der EBIT konnte für eine Reihe von Elementen der Nachweis der Erzeugung von vollständig ionisierten Ionen bis Z=28 erbracht werden. Für schwere Elemente können Ionenladungszustände bis hin zu neonähnlichen Ionen erzeugt werden. Entscheidenden Einfluss auf den erzielten mittleren Ladungszustand hat die Ioneneinschlusszeit. Die zeitliche Entwicklung der Ladungszustandsverteilung, wie sie im Zusammenspiel der verschiedenen atomaren Prozesse simuliert werden kann, ist sowohl an einer Reihe von röntgenspektroskopischen Messungen als auch anhand von Extraktionsspektren untersucht worden. Neben der Beladung der EBIT mit gasförmigen Elementen ist insbesondere die Beladung mit Metallen, d. h. mit einem möglichst breiten Spektrum an Elementen gefordert. Die Beladung mit leichtflüchtigen metallorganischen Verbindungen, die über das Gaseinlassventil eingebracht werden können, hat sich als erfolgreiche und preiswerte Alternative zu einer MEVVA-Quelle erwiesen. Die Beladung mit Metallionen ist am Beispiel verschiedener Untersuchungen gezeigt. Der monoenergetische Elektronenstrahl gestattet neben der Untersuchung von Anregungs- und Ionisationsprozessen insbesondere die der wichtigen Rekombinationsprozesse des Strahlenden Einfangs und der Dielektronischen Rekombination. Der Einsatz eines Kristalldiffraktionsspektrometers erlaubt trotz einer aufwendigen Kalibrierung und sehr langen Messzeiten die Auflösung einzelner Übergänge in hochgeladenen Ionen. Hauptanwendungsfeld der Dresden EBIT wird der Einsatz als Ionenquelle sein. Aus den Untersuchungen des extrahierten Gesamtionenstroms können die Bedingungen für einen möglichst großen Ionenstrom und einen optimalen Ionenstrahltransport abgeleitet werden. Eine optimale Ausnutzung der Eigenschaften hochgeladener Ionen erfordert die Separation der einzelnen Ladungszustände. Der Nachweis der sehr kleinen Ionenströme erfolgt über die kapazitive Messung in einem Faradaycup. Die Messung der Ladungszustandsverteilung in Abhängigkeit von den Parametern der EBIT gibt zusätzliche Aufschlüsse über die Eigenschaften der Ionenfalle.

Network Coding is a new possibility to transmit data through a network. By combining different packets instead of simply forwarding, network coding offers the opportunity to reach the Min-Cut/Max-Flow capacity in multicast data transmissions. However, the basic schemes are vulnerable to so-called pollution attacks, where an attacker can jam large parts of the transmission by infiltrating only one bogus message. In the literature we found several approaches which aim at handling this kind of attack with different amounts of overhead. Though, the cost for a specific secure network coding scheme highly depends on the underlying network. The goal of this paper is on the one hand to describe which network parameters influence the efficiency of a certain scheme and on the other hand to provide concrete suggestions for selecting the most efficient secure network coding scheme considering a given network. We will illustrate that there does not exist “the best” secure network scheme concerning efficiency, but all selected schemes are more or less suited under certain network topologies.

Country's higher education professionals are lack of trainings, linked to their labor market needs and opportunities after graduation to obtain employment-graduate qualification. This master thesis focuses on the high-skilled professionals, and forecasting systems in the real demand for specialists setting. It is therefore necessary to provide highly skilled professionals demand forecasts of employment and stay in the labor market opportunities for meeting the evolving needs of the economy. <p>Avian Influenza (AI) is a contagious viral zoonotic disease with great public health implications and negative socioeconomic impact (WHO, 2006a). The highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) infection is transmitted from birds to man mostly through contact with contaminated poultry and objects (INFOSAN, 2005), hence people who come in contact with birds such as live bird sellers (LBS) are the more vulnerable population (WHO, 2006a). Inadequate knowledge of AI health risks and poor practice of AI preventive measures amongst LBS increases the risk of spread of the infection in both humans and animals.The aim of this study was to describe and quantify the knowledge and practice of LBS with regards to avian influenza health risks and preventive activities in Agege, an urban area in Lagos State, Nigeria.</p>

<p>Antiretroviral regimens have side effects that can threaten adherence by patients resulting in evolution of viral resistance due to suboptimal drug levels. Studies have shown that drug adherence of at least 80% can result in viral load suppression. There is no literature on the association between the level of adherence to antiretroviral therapy and the degree of virological suppression in Namibia. The aim of the present study was to determine the therapeutic and virological outcomes in HIV/AIDS patients at 6 and 12 months after initiation of highly-active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) in an urban population in Namibia. The distribution of viral load results showed a low uptake (35%) of virological monitoring at 6 month time point and even lower (12%) at 12 months. A conservative viral load threshold for virological response is required in the Namibian setting. The current adherence level of &gt / 80% encourage increased ARV therapy rollout. Poor virological outcome was associated with self-reported adherence.</p>

10pt / font-family: &quot / Times New Roman&quot / ,&quot / serif&quot / ">Background: The care and treatment for people with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) at the Kagera regional hospital began in February 2005. It is important to evaluate quality of life (QOL) of highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART) recipients periodical to assess HAART&rsquo / s effectiveness. This study aimed to assess the health-related QOL (HRQOL) of HAART recipients and determine factors associated with it, two years after the programme had started at the kagera regional hospital in Tanzania. Results: The HRQOL of HAART recipients was generally lower than that of the general population. However, the general health perceptions (p=0.191) and mental health (p=0.161) means score of HAART recipients were not different from those of the Tanzanian general population. About 89% of the HAART recipients reported better health than in the previous years. Chronic diseases were associated with lower HRQOL of HAART recipients independently of other factors. HAART recipients with chronic diseases co-morbidity were more likely to score below the general population&rsquo / s mean score for mental health (p=0.007). While the effect of chronic diseases on HRQOL among those who recorded CD4+ cell increase was negative (OR=13.6,95%CI=3.7 / 49.9), there was no effect on those who did not have such an increase. Probabilistic-Write/Copy-Select (PWCS) is a novel synchronization scheme suggested by Nicholas Mc Guire which avoids expensive atomic operations for synchronizing access to shared objects. Instead, PWCS makes inconsistencies detectable and recoverable. It builds on the assumption that, for typical workloads, the probability for data races is very small. Mc Guire describes PWCS for multiple readers but only one writer of a shared data structure. In this paper, we report on the formal analysis of the PWCS protocol using a continuous-time Markov chain model and probabilistic model checking techniques. Besides the original PWCS protocol, we also considered a variant with multiple writers. The results were obtained by the model checker PRISM and served to identify scenarios in which the use of the PWCS protocol is justified by guarantees on the probability of data races. Moreover, the analysis showed several other quantitative properties of the PWCS protocol.

HIV drug resistance (HIVDR) has emerged as a major clinical and public health challenge in many resource poor countries especially in Africa. HIVDR testing has become increasingly important and is of significant value in the management of HIV. The use of low cost technologies and procedures in testing HIVDR is being recommended. HIVDR computer interpretation algorithms make use of artificial intelligence and other computer technologies to predict HIVDR, and are recommended for use in resource poor countries. However, there is little known about the knowledge, attitude and perception of HIVDR computer algorithms by doctors in developing countries who are supposed to use computer algorithms. This study aimed to determine the knowledge, attitude and perception regarding computer interpretation algorithms of the 4th and 5th year medical students at Nelson R. Mandela School of Medicine, University of KwaZulu Natal in South Africa. Primary data collection was done using a questionnaire administered to a convenience sample of 216 4th and 5th year medical students. The study revealed that 90% of the respondents were aware of HIV drug resistance testing in South Africa but only 4% had knowledge of the computer interpretation algorithms. Nitrocellulose is the main component in many types of ammunition, propellants and explosives. The principles of production for nitrocellulose have not changed much since the 19th century when it started being industrially produced for this purpose. The character of the nitrocellulose has a large effect on the end products abilities. The aim of this study was to develop a method that would be able to characterise and distinguish between nitrocellulose from different manufacturers to be able to relate the character of the nitrocellulose to the properties of ammunition, propellants and explosives. Samples were dissolved in acetone and analysed by GC/MS and data were then analysed by multivariable statistics. FTIR was also used to characterise the nitrocellulose. Results from both methods showed very small differences when chromatograms and spectra were analysed. This study shows that GC/MS and FTIR are not suitable for this type of characterisation. The differences between the data were not sufficient to be able to separate the samples from each other. / Nitrocellulosa är den viktigaste komponenten i många typer av ammunition, drivmedel och sprängämnen. Principerna för produktionen av nitrocellulosa har inte förändrats mycket sedan det börjades produceras industriellt för detta ändamål på 1800 talet. Karaktären av nitrocellulosa har en stor inverkan på slutproduktens egenskaper. Syftet med denna studie var att utveckla en metod som skulle kunna karaktärisera och skilja mellan nitrocellulosa från olika tillverkare för att kunna relatera karaktären av nitrocellulosa till egenskaperna hos ammunition, drivmedel och sprängämnen. Proverna löstes i aceton och analyserades med GC/MS och data analyserades med multivariabel statistik. FTIR användes också för att karakterisera nitrocellulosan. Resultaten för båda proverna visade mycket små skillnader när kromatogram och spektra analyserades. Denna studie visar att GC/MS och FTIR inte är lämpliga för denna typ av karaktärisering. Skillnaderna i data var inte tillräckliga för att kunna skilja proverna från varandra.
