Evidencias psicométricas de la Escala de Riesgo de Adicción-Adolescente en Redes sociales e Internet en adolescentes de Lima Metropolitana / Psychometric evidence of the Addiction-Adolescent Risk Scale in Social Networks and the Internet in adolescents of Metropolitan LimaGamboa Melgar, Goldie Elizabeth, Peña Fuertes, Yazmin Angela Julia 15 March 2021 (has links)
The objective of this research was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Scale of Risk of Addiction-adolescent to Social Networks and Internet (ERA-RSI) in students of Metropolitan Lima. The sample consisted of 755 students (361 men and 394 women), whose ages ranged from 13 to 24 years (M = 17, SD = 2.93) and who attended schools (62.2%) or private universities (33.8%). The internal structure of the ERA-RSI, its relationship with other variables (convergent validity), and the reliability by internal consistency were analyzed. The results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) indicate a four-dimensional structure with adequate goodness-of-fit indices in the sample of school adolescents (x2 / gl = 2.94, CFI = .93, TLI = .93 and RMSEA = .06) and university students (x2 / gl = 2.59, CFI = .98, TLI = .98 and RMSEA = .07). Also, the internal consistency of the scale is evidenced in the group of schoolchildren (ω = 41. to .76), as well as, in the sample of university students (ω = .63 to .89). For its part, the convergence validity was performed with the Social Media Addiction Questionnaire (ARS), and positive, statistically significant, and strong correlations were found between the dimensions of both tests. In conclusion, the ERA-RSI generally has adequate empirical evidence of validity and reliability. / Tesis

Previous issue date: 2018-06-20 / Nowadays, a great number of young people present themselves in clinic with complaints of a lonely and isolated personal life, with an affective-social withdrawal and impoverishment, sadness, hopelessness, anguish, internal guilt, helplessness, lack of will to live, cranky, self agressive and self-multilation behaviors. These factors, beyond worrying, point to pathology and to complex emotional difficulties. Another common feature of these young patients is to dedicate a lot of time to the virtual world instead of real life. On the social network, they have a group of lots of friends and dedicate a lot of their time with unknown people. This clear dissociation between the cloistered real life and the active virtual life demands questioning the social network role and think its excessive use as a way of psychological defense. Therefore, through the case study of a 16 years old young woman (when she begins the analysis), this research project proposes to understand this dissociation and its possible relation of the phenomenon to some psychopathology, specially depression, covering the contradictory way of the young people to have a depressive, apathetic and isolated existence in real life and manifest themselves vitally, interactively and intensely in social networks. The theorical basis of this investigation is the Winnicott’s Theory of Personal Maturity and the focus was on the articulation between the clinical case and the theory through the theoretical-methodological research and the research-listening. Reports from the patience, written by the psychologist during her three first years of psychological treatment and WhatsApp and Facebook messages given by the patience were all the valid corpus for this investigation. By avoiding contact with the loneliness that her illness aroused, the patient presented herself to treatment incapacitated to be alone and think about herself. Because of the lack of limits, she made use of the virtual world and isolated herself from shared reality. With psychic action from the analytic process, she started to stay connected to the cyber world while she needs, returning to the real world whenever she feels strengthened. Therefore, based on the analysis of the results of this clinical case, the use of communication in social networks by young depressive people is based on a paradox: the defense of the maniac type by the performance of the false self, to avoid depressive psychopathology, and, at the same time, the attempt to be cured by the new possibilities when the patient can experience the false self in consigning thru it the emersion of the true self / Atualmente, muitos jovens apresentam-se em consultório com queixas de uma vida pessoal solitária e isolada, com retraimento e empobrecimento afetivo-social, tristeza, desesperança, angústia, culpabilidade interna, desamparo, falta de vontade de viver e comportamentos irritadiços, autoagressivos e de automutilação, fatores esses que, além de preocupantes, apontam para uma possível patologia e para dificuldades emocionais complexas.

care, social interaction, causing significant losses in their relationships, academic and
professional activities. Objectives: The objective of the study was to verify the prevalence of
Internet addiction in undergraduate students from two public and private universities and a
Federal Institute in the city of Pelotas and to investigate associated factors. Methods: A crosssectional
and randomized study was performed using the following instruments: International
Addiction Test, International Physical Activity Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory,
Epworth Sleepiness Scale and Games Dependency Questionnaire. Results: The prevalence of
internet addiction was 41.7%, being inversely proportional to age. There was a significant
correlation with depression, those who presented changes in screening tests for depression had
a prevalence of internet addiction 83% higher. Three out of ten university students presented
daytime somnolence and 3% of the sample were classified as at risk for gambling
dependence. There is a correlation between consumption of hypercaloric foods, alcohol use
and sedentary lifestyle, and dependence on the internet. Conclusion: The dependence of
internet on university students is a reality that needs to be approached in an interdisciplinary
way, since it compromises the physical and mental health of these young people. / Introdução: A internet apresenta inúmeras funcionalidades e está totalmente integrada à

Marital Satisfaction among Married Couples in which One or Both Members Play a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG)Ahlstrom, A Michelle Elton 09 June 2009 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to gain a better understanding of the gaming behaviors of married individuals and couples who play Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game(s) (MMORPGs) including gaming addiction, time spent gaming, satisfaction in gaming participation, gaming interaction (between joint gaming spouses), and socio-demographic variables and the subsequent marital satisfaction levels of both individuals in the couple. Hypotheses were generally supported, excluding the hours spent gaming. 685 couples were separated and analyzed according to whether both individuals in the marriage gamed or just one individual gamed (couple-gaming type). Couples in which only one individual gamed (individual-gamer couples) had significantly lower marital satisfaction than all other groups and couples in which both gamed about the same amount of time (equal-gamers) held the highest marital satisfaction of the groups. Prediction models of marital satisfaction were determined for each couple-gaming type. The strongest predictions present in most of the models for marital satisfaction were the frequency that the couple retired to bed at the same time and the frequency that the couple quarreled specifically about gaming. Much MMORPG research has been presented on youth and adults, however to date there is no research on married gamers. Recent research on the video game habits of emerging adults called for further in depth investigation of the implications of video game use in the family formation stage of life.

Exploring adolescent smartphone dependence : the case of an international high school in MyanmarClarke-McLeod, Jillian 29 March 2021 (has links)
The research project evolved from my concerns and those of parents and teachers about students’ inability to regulate their smartphone use in schools. A preliminary review of literature revealed growing concerns worldwide about adolescent smartphone dependence which was affecting students’ academic and social development, amongst many others. It also revealed the area of adolescents’ smartphone dependence to be scantly researched especially in developing countries. Hence, this study. The purpose of the study was to explore levels of smartphone dependence in adolescents at a private school in Myanmar. The study was set in a social constructivist framework and the methodology was qualitative in nature, incorporating a literature review. Participants were purposively selected. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, focus group discussions and questionnaires. The study found that the level of smartphone use at the school was a cause of concern for the stakeholders; adolescents at the target school could be considered dependent on their smartphones. Recommendations to reduce the adolescents’ total screen time were made. Further studies into the management of children’s smartphone use were recommended. / Educational Foundations / M. Ed.
