Grafické zobrazení relací mezi počítači v Internetu / Visualization of relations between computers in the InternetCimbálek, Přemysl January 2008 (has links)
Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) transmits the television signal over the TCP/IP family of protocols. Its advantages are for example that the transmitting is not only one-way as in the “classical” TV broadcasting, but it can provide feedback such as interactivity. There are also some problems which avoids development, for example low channel capacity of access networks. That is why new methods , for example how to get more efficiency in IPTV transmission, are proposed. The main task of this diploma thesis is to visualize tree structure of relations between nodes in the network, based on understanding of principles of the hierarchical summarization and IPTV transmitting. The nodes in the tree structure provide computing and summarizing of the data in back-way channel. There is the data from the end users in this channel. In the first part of this diploma thesis there is explained the principle of IPTV and its differences as compared with classical TV broadcasting. The part is also aimed for the supported services, advantages and disadvantages. There is explained the compressing data with the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 standards and problems with transport networks called “last mile problem.” To transmitting data IPTV uses Source Specific Multicast – every user connects to the multicast session with requested TV program. Feedback is provided by unicast. Feedback network uses the hierarchical summarization principle to reduce the data. This problem, connected with RTP, RTCP and TTP protocols, is in the work described as well. There is an international experimental network called PlanetLab mentioned in theoretical part of this work. Proposed structure of new protocol and applications including the visualization for IPTV broadcast, is tested in that network. In the practical part of this work there are discussed possibilities and methods for the visualization and data storage. Because of high availability and flexibility, there were chosen web technologies, such as MySQL for data storage. The tree model is executed by Java. The visualization is solved by web technologies, source code for visualization is dynamically generated by scripts in JSP (Java Server Pages). Graphical output is provided by the vector format SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) which is created for graphical expression on the internet and in the mobile phones. There were created interactive web application thanks its ability to cooperation with Javascript technology. This application visualizes relation-tree structure of nodes. In this work there are explained basics of all used technologies, there are also given reasons for chosen methods and formats. Examples and interesting parts of solution are mentioned as well.

Enabling Content Discovery in an IPTV System : Using Data from Online Social NetworksDeirmenci, Hazim January 2017 (has links)
Internet Protocol television (IPTV) is a way of delivering television over the Internet, which enables two-way communication between an operator and its users. By using IPTV, users have freedom to choose what content they want to consume and when they want to consume it. For example, users are able to watch TV shows after they have been aired on TV, and they can access content that is not part of any linear TV broadcasts, e.g. movies that are available to rent. This means that, by using IPTV, users can get access to more video content than is possible with the traditional TV distribution formats. However, having more options also means that deciding what to watch becomes more difficult, and it is important that IPTV providers facilitate the process of finding interesting content so that the users find value in using their services. In this thesis, the author investigated how a user’s online social network can be used as a basis for facilitating the discovery of interesting movies in an IPTV environment. The study consisted of two parts, a theoretical and a practical. In the theoretical part, a literature study was carried out in order to obtain knowledge about different recommender system strategies. In addition to the literature study, a number of online social network platforms were identified and empirically studied in order to gain knowledge about what data is possible to gather from them, and how the data can be gathered. In the practical part, a prototype content discovery system, which made use of the gathered data, was designed and built. This was done in order to uncover difficulties that exist with implementing such a system. The study shows that, while it is is possible to gather data from different online social networks, not all of them offer data in a form that is easy to make use of in a content discovery system. Out of the investigated online social networks, Facebook was found to offer data that is the easiest to gather and make use of. The biggest obstacle, from a technical point of view, was found to be the matching of movie titles gathered from the online social network with the movie titles in the database of the IPTV service provider; one reason for this is that movies can have titles in different languages.

This thesis involves a detailed investigation of the problem of IPTV zapping time in networks of operators providing IPTV service based on multicast technology. This investigation led to some contributions that can substantially improve the channel change time in this type of network. Our first contribution concerns the pure network. We proposed an optimization of the channels changing process for each version of the IGMP protocol. This optimization reduces network latency without significantly increasing the bandwidth consumption. We proposed also a model of multicast IPTV service that we used to estimate the maximum bandwidth demand. This model enables the operator to size the bandwidth availability in its network. The second contribution relates to the processing part of stream IPTV on the receiver. In this section, we proposed to combine the main flow to a secondary flow, delayed version of the main stream. The construction of the secondary stream is clone by giving high priority to packets carrying elements of an I-frame compared to other types of elements (P-Frame, B-Frame, Voice and Data). This rule of construction can reduce the First I-Frame Delay required to start the decoding phase and at the same time reduce the Buffering Delay. In a real environment, we evaluated this contribution and measured a remarkable decline of the zapping time with our proposal.

Previous issue date: 2008-02-25 / This MSc. thesis presents new results of activities with the development and characterization on RF devices operating on the 2,4 GHz channel, which has been done using a flat fast fading emulator. This RF emulator has been developed with the use of electronic circuits between them, and the presence of an attenuator which can be controlled by software and another one controlled by a power supply. The performance and characterization of the emulator has been done with some tests of video streaming links. The essential purpose is to present a simple and efficient approach to implement a testbed emulation of flat fast fading that can allow the RF signal to be confined inside a coaxial cable, where there is a controlled ambient whose permits to investigate the performance over all wireless networks. We perform also in this work some comparison to evaluate the behavior of both the 802.11b and 802.11g standards in flat fast fading channel through a video transmission and a further analysis of the jitter in many different power levels of the signal by assuming that the emulator has a perfect control of the system.

Large-scale network analyticsSong, Han Hee, 1978- 05 October 2012 (has links)
Scalable and accurate analysis of networks is essential to a wide variety of existing and emerging network systems. Specifically, network measurement and analysis helps to understand networks, improve existing services, and enable new data-mining applications. To support various services and applications in large-scale networks, network analytics must address the following challenges: (i) how to conduct scalable analysis in networks with a large number of nodes and links, (ii) how to flexibly accommodate various objectives from different administrative tasks, (iii) and how to cope with the dynamic changes in the networks. This dissertation presents novel path analysis schemes that effectively address the above challenges in analyzing pair-wise relationships among networked entities. In doing so, we make the following three major contributions to large-scale IP networks, social networks, and application service networks. For IP networks, we propose an accurate and flexible framework for path property monitoring. Analyzing the performance side of paths between pairs of nodes, our framework incorporates approaches that perform exact reconstruction of path properties as well as approximate reconstruction. Our framework is highly scalable to design measurement experiments that span thousands of routers and end hosts. It is also flexible to accommodate a variety of design requirements. For social networks, we present scalable and accurate graph embedding schemes. Aimed at analyzing the pair-wise relationships of social network users, we present three dimensionality reduction schemes leveraging matrix factorization, count-min sketch, and graph clustering paired with spectral graph embedding. As concrete applications showing the practical value of our schemes, we apply them to the important social analysis tasks of proximity estimation, missing link inference, and link prediction. The results clearly demonstrate the accuracy, scalability, and flexibility of our schemes for analyzing social networks with millions of nodes and tens of millions of links. For application service networks, we provide a proactive service quality assessment scheme. Analyzing the relationship between the satisfaction level of subscribers of an IPTV service and network performance indicators, our proposed scheme proactively (i.e., detect issues before IPTV subscribers complain) assesses user-perceived service quality using performance metrics collected from the network. From our evaluation using network data collected from a commercial IPTV service provider, we show that our scheme is able to predict 60% of the service problems that are complained by customers with only 0.1% of false positives. / text

Service quality assurance for the IPTV networksAzgin, Aytac 17 September 2013 (has links)
The objective of the proposed research is to design and evaluate end-to-end solutions to support the Quality of Experience (QoE) for the Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) service. IPTV is a system that integrates voice, video, and data delivery into a single Internet Protocol (IP) framework to enable interactive broadcasting services at the subscribers. It promises significant advantages for both service providers and subscribers. For instance, unlike conventional broadcasting systems, IPTV broadcasts will not be restricted by the limited number of channels in the broadcast/radio spectrum. Furthermore, IPTV will provide its subscribers with the opportunity to access and interact with a wide variety of high-quality on-demand video content over the Internet. However, these advantages come at the expense of stricter quality of service (QoS) requirements than traditional Internet applications. Since IPTV is considered as a real-time broadcast service over the Internet, the success of the IPTV service depends on the QoE perceived by the end-users. The characteristics of the video traffic as well as the high-quality requirements of the IPTV broadcast impose strict requirements on transmission delay. IPTV framework has to provide mechanisms to satisfy the stringent delay, jitter, and packet loss requirements of the IPTV service over lossy transmission channels with varying characteristics. The proposed research focuses on error recovery and channel change latency problems in IPTV networks. Our specific aim is to develop a content delivery framework that integrates content features, IPTV application requirements, and network characteristics in such a way that the network resource utilization can be optimized for the given constraints on the user perceived service quality. To achieve the desired QoE levels, the proposed research focuses on the design of resource optimal server-based and peer-assisted delivery techniques. First, by analyzing the tradeoffs on the use of proactive and reactive repair techniques, a solution that optimizes the error recovery overhead is proposed. Further analysis on the proposed solution is performed by also focusing on the use of multicast error recovery techniques. By investigating the tradeoffs on the use of network-assisted and client-based channel change solutions, distributed content delivery frameworks are proposed to optimize the error recovery performance. Next, bandwidth and latency tradeoffs associated with the use of concurrent delivery streams to support the IPTV channel change are analyzed, and the results are used to develop a resource-optimal channel change framework that greatly improves the latency performance in the network. For both problems studied in this research, scalability concerns for the IPTV service are addressed by properly integrating peer-based delivery techniques into server-based solutions.

Modelling and Performance Analysis of New Coolstreaming for P2P IPTVRaghvendra, Potnis Varada January 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Peer to peer networks are becoming increasingly popular among Internet users as the downloading peers share the storage and upload bandwidth load of the system. This makes it possible for a large number of users to share a data file available at a server without the server upload bandwidth becoming a bottleneck. The P2P technology is being widely used not only for file sharing but also for video on demand, live streaming and IPTV. The delay deadlines are more stringent in live streaming and IPTV than those in file sharing as the traffic is real time. The performance perceived by a user depends upon whether the video stream is being downloaded at the streaming rate.
Coolstreaming is the first large scale P2P IPTV system. We model the multi-channel Coolstreaming system via an open queueing network. The peer dynamics at a channel is modelled by a closed queueing network working at a faster rate. We compute the expected number of substreams in the overlay of New Coolstreaming which are not being received at the proper rate. The computation of the Markov chain with a very large state space is handled using the two time scale decomposition.
Further we characterize the end to end delay encountered by a video stream originating from the server and received at a user of New Coolstreaming. Three factors contribute towards the delay. The first factor is the mean path length in terms of overlay hops of the partnership graph. The second factor is the mean number of routers between any two overlay peers in the network layer and the third factor is the queueing delay at a router in the Internet. The mean shortest path length in terms of overlay peers in the New Coolstreaming graph is shown to be O(logn)where nis the number of peers in the overlay. This is done by modelling the overlay by a random graph. The mean shortest path in terms of routers in the Internet’s router level topology is seen to be at most O(logNI)where NIis the number of routers in the Internet. We also discuss a method by which we can get the mean delay at a router in the Internet. Thus, the mean end to end delay in New Coolstreaming is shown to be upper bounded by O(lognlogNIE[W])where E[W]is the mean delay at a router in the Internet.

Over recent years, new applications steadily developed in a tremendous space, especially in audiovisual services area. The present applications have some of constraints to work properly. The developments of mechanism which enable to overcome these constraints become a critical issue in this area. The IEEE 802.16j standard is one of wireless communication technology which offering more resources to support new telecommunication services. In this thesis, we focus our research on the problem of quality of service (QoS) inWiMAX relay networks. Our contributions are classified as follows : we proposed a multicast routing protocol for IPTV services (such as HD-TV, SD-TV, Web-TV and Mobile-TV). This proposed protocol used a new multicast tree construction mechanism based-on prime numbers. We also developed a new aggregation method based on standard video compression called Scalable Video Coding (SVC). Our goal is to support user’s heterogeneity while optimizing resources consumption. In addition, we studied the problem of scheduling inWiMAX networks. We proposed an adaptive scheduling algorithm AWRR for IPTV services. The aim of this method is to support QoS constraints by using two schedulers, and assigning a dynamic value to each service queue. Finally, we interested to study about the problem of path selection. We proposed a solution based on a deterministic cost function. This function also ensures admission control based on two basic cost functions which include four QoS criteria. This thesis has been prepared in the MIPS/GRTC laboratory, University of Haute Alsace, under a research contract external (CRE) framework with France Telecom R&D. All proposed mechanisms were evaluated by the simulator QualNet, Matlab and mathematical analysis.
