Olausson, Christian, Persäter, Erik January 2013 (has links)
Flera IT-projekt misslyckas.

Teacher attitudes toward IT and IT-use : A case study of four teachers of English using IT in Swedish Compulsory School

Werngren, Jan January 2013 (has links)
Abstract Through an analysis of four case-studies, this essay aims to provide some recent data related to what extent information technology (IT) and ICT-tools are used in schools. It takes a closer look at some of the problems teachers can encounter in connection with computers, lap-tops, tablets and so on. The focus of the essay has been placed mainly on answering questions related to two areas; • What kind of attitudes do teachers express toward IT and its use? • How does the reality involving IT and IT-use actually look like in schools? The methodology used to acquire the information was based on R. H. Bernard's format for semi-structured interviews. Further, the study also brings up issues that can be worthwhile to elaborate on, and, how to better predict the future of IT in schools. Two factors were brought into view that seems vital to deal with in order for computers and IT to function well in a school-setting: • A sufficient quantity of the technological tools that are implemented • Access to updated and professional training in the tools being used This study also confirmed that IT in school is still very much characterized by trials, errors and experimenting, much like University professor Säljö stated eleven years ago. Exploring practice-involvement in high level education : the challenges and opportunities when involving practice in IT education

Min, Shan January 2013 (has links)
Due to the importance of higher education to jobs and economic growth, integration between research, education, and innovation has been paid more and more attention recently. Therefore, practice-involved programs and courses are being offered by many universities in Europe. In this thesis, a case study was conducted in order to explore the challenges and opportunities when involving practice in IT education. Different perspectives have been taken into account from different stakeholders towards the practice-involved program explored in this study. Examining the knowledge boundaries between stakeholders, several challenges among stakeholders were identified. These boundaries prevent the communication between the theoretical world and the practical world, as well as the communication between the stakeholders. Moreover, several opportunities have emerged from involving practice in IT education.

Shiervani, Sofia, Nyberg Axelsson, Kasper January 2015 (has links)

Factors that shape student decision-making related to Information Technology study and career choices: a gendered analysis

Lang, Catherine Unknown Date (has links) (PDF)
This thesis presents a gendered analysis of factors that shape adolescent attitudes to Information Technology (IT) at key stages in their education. It draws on career decision-making literature, psychological self-efficacy literature and some of the more salient feminist literature. Results of interviews with students in junior, middle and senior secondary-schools in Australia are presented alongside those from students studying IT at two universities. This research provides relevant and current insight into reasons why females are not choosing IT courses to the same extent as males, that is not captured in the existing literature. The study found that many young women and men, while being almost equal in IT use and computer literacy, do not consider IT as a valid and independent discipline for future study or as a career. It found that IT rarely entered students’ schematic repertoire of possible future careers, a schematic repertoire strongly influenced by parental opinion at all stages of education. / It found a surprising proportion of the university students interviewed currently studying IT, did not consider this degree as their first choice and were often not convinced that they would continue in the career after graduation. This thesis concluded that while IT is a varied discipline that is unique in its many applications, to many students the discipline is predominately aligned to hardware and associated objects. It found that there is a deficit in student knowledge of what an IT career involves beyond that of the most stereotypical portrayal of a programmer, and that this deficit of knowledge is evident in both genders. It is apparent from this study that the lack of women in IT is not necessarily a gender issue, but an issue embedded in the image of the IT discipline, an image that lacks the status of a professional career.
