Vztah chudoby a konfliktu v mezinárodních vztazích / Relationship of poverty and conflict in international affairs

Gabriel, David January 2011 (has links)
This master thesis focuses on a relationship between poverty and conflict. The aim is to analyze poverty as a potential cause of internal conflict. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part discusses the multidimensional character of poverty, the nature of a nexus between poverty and conflict and introduces modern concepts of economic causes of conflict. The second part tests if higher personal income reduces the probability of internal conflict to emerge. Both phenomena are transformed into a simple mathematical function in order to test their nexus. Characteristics of both regional and universal nature of their relationship are scrutinized. Finally, poverty is not universally believed to be a major cause of civil conflicts. However, poverty is suggested to be a major cause of internal conflicts if personal income is not high enough to satisfy basic human meets. The level of violence, under which conflicts are likely to emerge, is believed to be set at the level of 2$ (of daily income). #English version of the thesis is available per request.#

Rajnoch, Jan January 2012 (has links)
For the centuries, the old Silk routes in hinterland Eurasia were connecting the Eastern and Western empires and served as a channel for exchange of goods and ideas between the two different worlds. Over the past decades, the international trade between Europe and Asia has rapidly increased and reflected more than 10 million TEU transported by container ships annually. As far as the silk, spice and other traditional goods have been gradually replaced by laptops, tablets and car components, the new transport solutions have been tested to meet the altering nature of logistic demands. Nowadays, the company DB Schenker Rail is the European leader in the rail freight market and needs to sustain the leading position. However, DB Schenker Rail attempts to be not only the best choice on European rail, but further with the first pioneer back and forth rail freight activities between Europe and Asia tries to capitalize on the new business opportunities. On that account the company has raised the question: What are the rail freight customer needs today and what he will need tomorrow in relation to the logistic processes between Europe and Asia? As a result, several customer tailored logistic solutions have been described to meet the altering nature of rail freight demands.

The 1980s is marked by mobilizing progressive sectors of society fighting for democracy denied by the military regime. In the field of public health, the absence of a universal health policy triggered the Sanitary Reform Movement and the Popular Health Movement, which were against authoritarian educational practices in health, seeking hegemony of the Popular Education in Health. The objective of this study is to understand the educational practices in health in the Morro da Conceição community from 1980 to 1995. The qualitative approach was chosen in this work, and as a procedure for collecting data, it uses semi-structured interviews with nine community leaders. The organization and processing of data is based on Bardin Content Analysis. The definition of collaborators for this work emerges from an exploratory research, which show great involvement with the study object. The empirical dimension shows that the educational practices in health were dialogic, based on dialogue between popular knowledge and scientific knowledge. The dialogue between church, the volunteer health professionals and community leaders led a large part of the community to an awareness of the need for a political engagement in community struggles. Health was an instrument of liberation of the participants. With the use of medicinal plants, residents broke free of medical knowledge oppression, at the same time, they were the creators of culture, transforming their own reality. Community leaders, as political members, worked in health policy configuration. In conclusion, despite the progress achieved by the Popular Education in Health from 1980 to 1995, after that period, there was the demobilization of the popular health movement as a result of the cooptation of the leaders by the government. The institutionalization of popular participation through the municipal health council also helped to empty the popular movement.

BETWEEN PARAFFIN OIL AND SURFACES WITH EPOXY RESINS

Valença, Silvio Leonardo 26 February 2010 (has links)
Oil is a very complex chemical system, as for instance, the paraffinic type which was considered as a fluid to be evaluated in this scientific paper, trough the static interfacial tension with the surfaces of the API 5L grade B conduction pipe and the EPOXY and EPOXY M resins. The paraffinic oil produced in the 7-PIR-244D-AL well, which is located in the producing field of Pilar in the state of Alagoas, presents special characteristics concerning its flow which are different from the other oils in the Sedimentary Basin of Sergipe and Alagoas. The resin used in the experiments were the EPOXY, commercially know as DGEBA, as well as EPOXY M, which was produced from the DGEBA with the addition of a substance whose objective is to reduce the deposit of organic and/or inorganic molecules in its surfaces along the oil flow. The evaluation of the static interfacial tension between this type of paraffinic oil and the surfaces of the EPOXY (37,2 mN/m), EPOXY M (14,8 mN/m) resins and the steel pipe (4.790,2 mN/m) has produced results, the performance of this fluid compared with the EPOXY M resin was better than when compared with the EPOXY and, as a consequence, better than when compared with the metallic material of the pipe. As a result of the data got through the experiments with these materials, there was a conclusion about the possibility of practical use of the EPOXY M resin as a coating in the internal surface of the pipes that carry oil with a considerable quantity of paraffin in its composition, aiming at a better performance relating to the flow of this fluid.

The present paper proposes a system to manage, control and monitor a group of LED luminaires of a street lighting system, being able to control the light intensity of the luminaire and monitoring the power consumption, detection of pedestrians, fault conditions, environmental parameters such as temperature and humidity. Additionally, the system contains a voltage sensor coupled to the grid in order to monitor and manage the power quality parameters. Basically, the system can be divided in three essential parts. The first one regards the smart module, called in this work as SM, which has the responsibility to sensing the parameters stemming from power grid as well as luminaire. The second part is the control module (CM), which has the aim to coordinate the data received from each smart module, storing and subsequently sending the data to the supervisory system. Besides, the control module also has temperature and humidity sensors in order to check and register environmental conditions, providing, in this way, reliability of the measured data. The supervisory system (SS) consists of the final part of the proposed system and it is responsible to save the data in a local memory, to analyze and to monitor problems or even possible faults and sending commands to each CM and/or a respective SM. With the aim to evaluate the proposed system, it was performed experiments to demonstrate the system operation as well as the quality analysis capability. Due to the energy savings potential provided by the technology, it was also studied the economic feasibility of the prototype, aiming a future commercial product. The results have shown that the proposed system is scalable, flexible and efficient.
