The fire safety parameters in Brazil are driven by prescriptive standards, which function as a basis for architects, whose design aim to the enforcement of such for a subsequent approval from the inspection authorities. The legislation needs to be in a constant review and evaluation. From this statement, the main goal of this work is to identify, in university building projects, potential gaps in the normative prescriptions about fire evacuation which raise intervention and correction proposals to their better effectiveness. The question to be answered at the end of the research is that there are differences and confluences solutions between prescriptive rules on emergency evacuation used in Rio Grande do Norte, when compared to the results obtained through computer simulations. For such, a gathering of information was initially held through a research in literature and documents concerning the matter. Later, based on established criteria, computer simulations were carried out to analyze the normative prescriptions applied to the chosen buildings. The simulations were performed by two software: PATHFINDER? (2014), related to the escape time and to the movement of the people while on the run; and DEPTHMAP? (2004), concerned the study of the spatial setting and its relation to the movement of the users in the buildings, according to the Space Syntax Theory (SS). From the analyzes results, prescriptive codes gaps were identified, such as regarding the design of the stairs, the maximum number of occupants and the maximum distance to safety; and effective points, as the need of enclosed stairs to decrease the maximum exhaust time. With the findings, gave subsidies to discuss the existing parameters and others that are not yet covered by SCI regulations, and the studied buildings design solutions. It is expected that the work will contribute to future research that deals the addressed issues or aimed at further the study here started.

Nejedlá, Jana January 2010 (has links)
Planned obsolescence is the term used to describe incentives of companies to make durable goods faster obsolete. The aim of the study is to make a big picture and real situation about planned obsolescence practising and consumer disposal behaviour. First part addresses the theoretical background and provides comprehensive overview through different aspects of the good's durability issue and planned obsolescence characteristics and influences. Second part in further reference to the information provided in theoretical part examines the situation of specific durable products - laptops. From survey's results on consumer attitudes towards durability of laptops and real case study on Apple Inc. and its reliance to planned obsolescence, recommendations to the more sustainable consumption of consumer electronics are presented.

Dokumentation Netzwerk Chemnitzer Linux-Tag 2004

Kratzert, Sebastian, Möller, Manuel 26 May 2004 (has links)

A Restorative Environmental Justice for the Prison Industrial Complex: a Transformative Feminist Theory of Justice

Conrad, Sarah M. 05 1900 (has links)
This dissertation provides a feminist restorative model of environmental justice that addresses the injustices found within UNICOR’s e-waste recycling operations. A feminist restorative environmental justice challenges the presupposition that grassroots efforts, law and policy, medical and scientific research, and theoretical pursuits (alone or in conjunction) are sufficient to address the emotional and relational harm of environmental injustices. To eliminate environmental harms, this model uses collaborative dialogue for interested parties to prevent environmental harm. To encourage participation, a feminist restorative model accepts many forms of knowledge and truth as ‘legitimate’ and offers an opportunity for women to share how their personal experiences of love, violence, and caring differ from men and other women and connect to larger social practices. This method of environmental justice offers opportunities for repair, reparation and reintegration that can transform perspectives on criminality, dangerous practices and structures in the PIC, and all persons who share in a restorative encounter.

Business Case Studies in Sustainability Practices

Lynch, Sheri L 01 January 2016 (has links)
Protecting the environment for future generations is crucial. Although businesses are under strong pressure to support sustainability, many leaders find it challenging to meet the environmental needs of the present without negatively impacting their economic goals. This paper describes some methods that businesses have adopted to effectively manage environmental issues and offer an opportunity for competitive advantage. In particular, three case studies show ways that the companies have embraced and integrated sustainability into their strategic planning process, which helped them achieve growth and success in the context of social and environmental concerns. The paper shows how these businesses have chosen to embrace sustainability to minimize the negative impact in our environment, society, and economy. The case studies can help managers define and prioritize their sustainability goals, achieve social and economic value, and transform these environmental investments into sources of competitive advantage. This paper can be beneficial to other businesses who desire to move beyond compliance of the law and become proactive in helping our environment for future generations.

Araujo Llamocca, Claudia Mallory 20 December 2024 (has links)
Over time, the Internet became a non-face-to-face social space where different social groups are created around different topics. To elaborate this investigation, the case of the DC Comics superheroes’ virtual fandom was chosen. A predominant characteristic of this fandom is being a male-dominated space, where female fans are often attacked, harassed, disqualified and made invisible for, supposedly, not being real fans and only being “attention seekers” because “they are women.” Hence the question of why they insist on participating in these virtual spaces despite the different treatment they receive, what dynamics develop and how they face them, what their identity as fan(girls) consists of. In order to answer the questions proposed in this research from the point of view of social science, interviews were conducted with people of both sexes (from different Spanish speaking countries of Latin America) about their experience within these virtual spaces and about their identity as fans. The analysis will be carried out from sociology of gender, fan studies and structural analysis in order to learn if the fangirls’ situation can be due to not being considered as peers by men, also if it happens because fangirls have their own gaze when appreciating comics, which differs from the male gaze.

Lefebvre, Pierre-Philippe 13 April 2018 (has links)
