Akustikreglering i kulturhistorisk bruksmiljö / Acoustic control in industrial cultural buildings  Författare:

Mattias, Hallberg January 2020 (has links)
An older industrial building is usually built in hard materials such as brick, steel and sheet metal, all of which give rise to a high proportion of reflections of sound energy. The absorption level in these materials is low, which leads to long reverberation times. Installing acoustic regulatory measures in these buildings conflicts with the fact that older industrial buildings often have a cultural-historical value.  The purpose of this work was to investigate the possibility of implementing acoustic regulations in a culturally and historically valuable building without substantially affecting its cultural value. Regarding the level of ambition from an acoustic perspective, the objective was to halve the reverberation time.  The measured reverberation time shows a relative long reverberation time in the mid frequencies and a shorter one at low and high frequencies. The results of the calculations that have been carried out show that in the smaller production hall, of two, the objective of a halved reverberation time can be achieved in the majority of the octave bands. The proposed measures for the larger production hall would not lead to the objective being fully met, but further measures would need to be implemented. Consideration of the cultural value of the glass factory justifies that a longer reverberation time can be accepted.

A comparison between using prefabricated elements for adding insulation or reconstructing the exterior walls from an environmental and economic stand point

Rindberg, Marcus, Zohoorian Izadpanah, Soroush January 2019 (has links)
Purpose: The goal of this study is to conduct an LCA and LCC analysis of an additional insulation panel and a sandwich panel, to see which panel has the most benefits regrading environmental effects and economical effects. The purpose of this study is to conduct a research regarding the economical and environmental effect a refurbishment on the exterior walls of an industrial building, is it more beneficial to add insulation to the existing walls or remodel the exterior walls. The European Union has sat a target to reduce the emission of the greenhouse gases within all sectors including the construction sector. The goal is to reduce the emissions by 80-95 % by the year 2050, calculated by the emission rate from the year 1990. Approximately 20 % of the heating produced within in a building seeps out from the exterior walls, this adds to the importance of optimizing a buildings insulating capabilities. The study can be broken down in to three subcategories. (1) How do you add insulation the exterior walls of an industrial building? (2) Which is more economically benefitable, the reconstruction of existing walls or using prefabricated panels with common goal of adding insulting to an existing industrial building. (3) Which alterative has more impact on the environment, using prefabricate panels or reconstruct the existing walls of a building. Method: Methods used to answer the question above include a literature analysis, a document analysis and a case study with the purposes of conducting a life cycle analysis and life cycle cost analysis.     Findings: The results of the study points towards that insulating on externally was a much better option in our case study, it reduced the chances of having to deal with both thermal bridges and damages caused by structural dampness in the walls. The results from the LCA an LCC analysis showed that the additional insulation panels had a significant advantage. When using the additional insulation panels the overall cost of the project was reduced by 30,3% and Carbon dioxide emissions where deducted by 50,8% in comparison with the sandwich panels, when both alternatives had a combined u-value of 0,16 W/m2K. Implications: The study shows the importance of conducting an LCA and LCC analysis in the start-up process of project, to determine which alternative are more beneficial for the project and the environment. The study also shows that with a relative low investment and environmental impact you can improve the U-value of a building Limitations: The study was focused solely around industrial buildings and the study is limited to the exterior walls. No other building components where taken in consideration. Keywords: Insulation, LCA, LCC, Exterior walls, additional insulation, industrial buildings / Syfte:.

An energy study of Fengerfors mill : Mapping and proposal of efficiency measures in buildings of industrial nature

Tillman, Johan January 2011 (has links)
In the late 1900s society began to realize the consequences of relying on non-renewable energy sources for heating. Prices were increasing heavily and because of that people often chose to replace their oil boiler with electricity which at the time was a viable option. With the rise in prices that has occurred over the past decade the importance of energy efficient measures seemed increasingly clear. With that said many older buildings often have poor thermal properties since both energy prices and construction standards were considerably lower back then. The client Not Quite is a nonprofit association based in Fengerfors mill, Åmål. They have expressed dissatisfaction over increasing heating costs combined with problems getting the desired thermal comfort related to their premises. The objects described are of industrial nature and has previously been used to a paper mill which closed in 1979. The buildings are now classified as part of a cultural monument. The intention of this dissertation has been to map the energy use and to evaluate appropriate efficiency measures related to the specific objects. This includes getting the demanded thermal comfort in combination with possibly reducing the energy consumption. The cost-effectiveness of proposed efficiency measures will also be evaluated. The objective of this dissertation has been to through the use of simulation identify the energy consumption, required thermal input and potential energy efficiency measures. The efficiency measures consisted mainly of adding insulation, air sealing, intermittent heating, heat recovery and window replacements. Cost-effectiveness was evaluated through a life cycle cost analysis with the different heat sources of wood, pellets and air source heat pumps. The conclusion has been that the proposed efficiency options related to each object reduces energy consumption to a considerable extent, while an adequate heating is achieved. The objects have through these measures obtained just as good energy consumption rates as standard considered buildings in Sweden. The life cycle cost analysis shows us that the present value of the proposed efficiency measures in all economic case scenarios results in great cost savings. It has also been shown that a satisfactory discretization of building elements is very important in this type of simulation.

The lost motor city : Indianapolis automobile manufacturers 1900-1966

Saldibar, Joseph P. January 1998 (has links)
This research and documentation project of surviving Indianapolis automobile factories examines the importance of Indianapolis, Indiana, as a center of automobile manufacturing in its early days. Automobile factories appeared in the city as early as 1895, and were often an outgrowth of bicycle or carriage-building companies. This followed a national trend. As the industry grew, Indianapolis firms continued to produce low-volume, high-quality cars instead of the more popular, low-cost cars being produced by Ford and other Michigan-based manufacturers. The recession of 1921 and the Great Depression of 1929 decimated the market for expensive cars and by 1937 all Indianapolis-based firms were out of the automobile business. A number of their production facilities remain and are employed in a variety of uses. This project documents these buildings and recommends a range of adaptive re-uses based on successful conversions. / Department of Architecture

Retrofit em baldios industriais urbanos e o complexo Matarazzo, Jaguariaíva – PR

Correia, Beatriz Silva 15 September 2015 (has links)
This thesis addresses practices of retrofit, a term originating in product engineering, convened by the Architecture and Urbanism in the urgent need to rehabilitate, renovate, restore, restructure, remodel, regenerate, protecting historical aspects of a building, incorporating appropriate technology to present days. The objective was to explore relevant aspects of these projective techniques in urban industrial brownfields, according to the socioeconomic diversity and sustainable local development. For this, concepts, models and situations of consumption and appropriation of these resources were prized to industrial architectural typologies. They are taken up by the ideas of Eduardo E. Lozano and Amartya Sen, highlighting the sensorial and socioeconomic diversity as drivers of development with quality of life. The research is qualitative and elaborates a proposal for a retrofit to an underused industrial brownfield, inserted in the municipality of Jaguariaíva - PR. For that, unique relationships in interventions to similar architectural objects were connected, either by displaying space or heterogeneity in individual appropriation of these realities. Thereafter, for the case of the ancient Slaughterhouse Matarazzo, feasible interferences by retrofit were recommended. They would permit reclaim the historical past in a contemporary language. In this sense, the proposed technical resources were pursued to readjust the facilities, so that they might encourage the integration of the socio-economic sustainability and development as freedom. It is recommended for the built set, the redistribution of spaces for other activities, assigning them new vocations that can move between transience and permanence. It is concluded that the proposed retrofit for Matarazzo Complex formulated based on theoretical studies and on the selected and analyzed examples, allows rescue the history, favoring the sectors of trade and services, reviving urban life by granting it quality.

Rehabilitation assessment of the Pretoria State Garage to fit the Pretoria Technology Park

Setshedi, Gift Phalatse 21 July 2005 (has links)
INTRODUCTIONThis research investigates the assessment for the rehabilitation of the Pretoria State Garage (PSG) for the purpose of accommodating the Pretoria Technology Park (PTP). The Pretoria State Garage courtyard is comprised of industrial type of buildings, most of which stand obsolete due to a shift in the manufacturing process. These buildings are structurally sound and historically significant. They offer a major opportunity for conversion to attract business through providing relatively inexpensive commercial and industrial spaces to small and medium sized companies. The site is located in the southwest quadrant of Pretoria Central in which a number of sites and buildings are currently being downgraded in the urban revitalisation process, due to preferred, other technologies of construction. The assessment for the rehabilitation of the site evaluates the spatial qualities and the physical forms of buildings in relation to the new user, while the establishment of the PTP focuses on maintaining, elongating and innovating the industrial manufacturing tradition of the site. The incorporation of the PTP on the PSG site is implemented through the fitting process. RESEARCH AREAThe research focuses on the three main areas dealing with: <ul><li> Programming and planning of the Pretoria Technology Park </li><li>Rehabilitation assessment of the Pretoria State Garage</li><li> Architectural fitting process <br></li></ul> 1. Programming and planning of the Pretoria Technology Park The development methodology is employed for the establishment of a sustainable Pretoria Technology Park, which stems from local technology demand, supply and transfer. As a result, different centres are established to provide accommodation and services to major activities of the park dealing with administration, provision of advanced technology services and accommodation for technology-based firms. Individual centres are discussed according to their envisaged spatial qualities and design specifications. 2. Rehabilitation assessment of the Pretoria State Garage The rehabilitation assessment explores the historic significance and architectural values of the PSG. The outcome of the rehabilitation assessment defmes the manner and the degree in which various rehabilitation interventions could be executed. The process includes proposals for the demolition of unwanted structures and elements, investigating the long-term resilience of buildings to be retained and assessing negative physical features of the site. 3. Architectural fitting process Specific dimensions and spatial requirements of both the PSG (physical) and the PTP (intellectual) respectively are compared for the purpose of mutual fitting. / Dissertation (MArch)--University of Pretoria, 2005. / Architecture / unrestricted

Posouzení vhodnosti rekonstrukce průmyslového areálu z hlediska návratnosti investice / Assessment of feasibility of renovation of an industrial complex in terms of return on investment

Chytil, Jaroslav January 2016 (has links)
I concentrated on assessing the suitability of the reconstruction of the industrial complex in terms of return on investment. For illustration and example, I chose part of an industrial complex in Nova Ves near Pohořelic. The solution was used knowledge from the field of investments, valuation of immovable assets and budgeting reconstruction. The result is both evaluation using economic indicators (in this case, the net present value of the investment), which demonstrate the appropriateness (or inappropriateness) and the extent of reconstruction in terms of return on invested funds. This thesis is beneficial for the homeowners who are considering reconstruction and want to rent a property.
