: En explorativ fallstudie hos en gymnasieklass på IB-programmet / How Are ISI and IIR Expressed During the Black Box Activity? : An Explorative Case Study at an Upper SecondaryClass Attending the IB-programSundberg, Simon January 2021 (has links)
I vilken utsträckning? / Informal statistical inference (ISI) is emerging as a way to teach statistics in the future in order to give students the opportunity to develop the statistical abilities required in a technologically developed world. ISIs are about giving the students opportunity to engage in statistical discussions and problem areas without the underlying formal statistical knowledge required to make statistically sound claims. Informal inferential reasoning (IIR) is seen as the reasoning that is given by students, in an informal way, and that leads to these informal statistical inferences. The aim of this study is to examine in what way, and to what extent, the activity: Black Box enables students expressions ISI and IIR. The two research questions that work as a base for the study are: 1. What aspects of ISI and IIR are expressed by a class of first-year students attending the IB-program during the activity: Black Box? And 2. To what extent are these aspects expressed? The research literature used in this study was found on UniSearch as well as ERIC. Informal statistical inference is a relatively new research area. Therefore, it has not been studied in any extensive way in a Swedish context. Furthermore, as far as the author of this study is aware, no research at all regarding ISI and IIR has been made on students attending upper secondary school in Sweden. As a result of this it is difficult to compare the of this study with that of other studies. Furthermore, no general conclusions can be made of the activity: Black Box and its enabling of students expressions of ISI and IIR. The study did, however, find that students expressed all defined aspects of ISI during the activity and that they used IIR to construct these inferences.

Analyse statistique de populations pour l'interprétation d'images histologiques / Statistical analysis of populations for histological images interpretationAlsheh Ali, Maya 19 February 2015 (has links)
During the last decade, digital pathology has been improved thanks to the advance of image analysis algorithms and calculus power. However, the diagnosis from histopathology images by an expert remains the gold standard in a considerable number of diseases especially cancer. This type of images preserves the tissue structures as close as possible to their living state. Thus, it allows to quantify the biological objects and to describe their spatial organization in order to provide a more specific characterization of diseased tissues. The automated analysis of histopathological images can have three objectives: computer-aided diagnosis, disease grading, and the study and interpretation of the underlying disease mechanisms and their impact on biological objects. The main goal of this dissertation is first to understand and address the challenges associated with the automated analysis of histology images. Then it aims at describing the populations of biological objects present in histology images and their relationships using spatial statistics and also at assessing the significance of their differences according to the disease through statistical tests. After a color-based separation of the biological object populations, an automated extraction of their locations is performed according to their types, which can be point or areal data. Distance-based spatial statistics for point data are reviewed and an original function to measure the interactions between point and areal data is proposed. Since it has been shown that the tissue texture is altered by the presence of a disease, local binary patterns methods are discussed and an approach based on a modification of the image resolution to enhance their description is introduced. Finally, descriptive and inferential statistics are applied in order to interpret the extracted features and to study their discriminative power in the application context of animal models of colorectal cancer. This work advocates the measure of associations between different types of biological objects to better understand and compare the underlying mechanisms of diseases and their impact on the tissue structure. Besides, our experiments confirm that the texture information plays an important part in the differentiation of two implemented models of the same disease.

The design and effects of a catch-up reading intervention for grade 5 teachers and learners in NamibiaLiswaniso, Belden 04 1900 (has links)
Summaries In English, Xhosa and Afrikaans / The aim of this study was to carry out a reading comprehension intervention to empower
teachers with knowledge and strategies for teaching reading, with the ultimate goal of
improving the low reading comprehension of Upper Primary learners in Grade 5. The
intervention was carried out for about four months, in which teachers were provided with
teaching and learning resources, guidance on how to utilise the resources, and coaching on
instructional practices. The intervention involved two control and two intervention schools.
A modest interventionist approach was applied in which the six quality criteria for formative
assessment as proposed by Nieveen (2007) were adopted to guide the study. The study was
carried out in three phases. Phase 1 was concerned with the context and problem identification
in which the relevance of the study, the first quality criterion, was addressed. A baseline study
was conducted and the results showed that learners had low decoding and reading
comprehension skills. The baseline study also revealed that teachers and principals had limited
knowledge about reading and comprehension and how to teach them, and the schools were
poorly resourced. Considering the low reading levels and academic performance of the learners, there was a need to improve the learners’ reading comprehension levels through
teacher empowerment to enhance their literacy practices and change their attitudes. The study
was underpinned by two theories of change, namely Guskey’s (1986, 2002) theory of teacher
change and Fishbein’s (2000) Integrative Model of Behaviour Prediction.
Phase 2 was concerned about the design, development and implementation of the intervention
in which four quality criteria were addressed: the consistency, expected practicality, actual
practicality, and the expected effectiveness of the intervention. Phase 3 addressed the actual
effectiveness of the intervention, and the analysis of the pre- and post-intervention scores
showed that the intervention schools improved significantly more than the control schools in
decoding tests. The results also showed that the grade-appropriate age groups (10 and 11-yearolds)
performed significantly higher than the older learners, and that girls had a slightly better
performance than boys in all the assessments. The findings suggest that quality teaching and
learning can happen if teachers receive ongoing support to enhance their instructional practices. / Injongo yolu phando ibe ikukuqhuba umsebenzi wokungenelela kufundo ngokuqiqa

lei.
aangespreek is.
effens beter presteer as seuns.
Linguistics and Modern Languages
