The purpose of this thesis was to explore how alchemy has influenced Carlos Estevez’s work through a study of the symbolic repertoire and the philosophical concepts associated with it in his art, particularly how these are expressed in his artworks and how alchemy has evolved thematically in his oeuvre. The study of alchemy influenced this artist so deeply that even pieces that were not primarily inspired by this philosophical system show traces of it, essentially by representing the concept of transformation, crucial to understanding the alchemical process. This thesis is based on Carl Gustav Jung’s idea of metaphysical transformation as one of the main aspects of alchemy, and on his theory of active imagination as a tool to represent thoughts through artworks. Alchemy transformed Estevez’s art, and by extension the way he approaches life, making him conscious of the importance of transmutation and alchemical concepts.

Vid hennes barm och under hennes kjortel är en studie om två av religionspsykologins fäder och deras Mariaåskådningar – Sigmund Freud och Carl Gustav Jung. Trots en i övrigt gedigen forskning finns en kunskapslucka om deras Mariagestalt och då särskilt vad gäller Freud. Tanken i denna magisteruppsats är att genom en hermeneutisk metod fylla detta tomrum. Syftet är att utröna Mariagestaltens roll och betydelse i de religiösa dramaturgiernas dilemman. Därtill se vilka lösningar som erbjuds i Freuds och Jungs djuppsykologiska teorier. Resultatet visar att Freud utgår främst från erotikens hemvist vid modersbröstet och autoerotismen. Medan Jung fokuserar på vaginan/livmodern och andlig eros. Det finns därtill en underliggande spänning mellan ett homosexuellt (Freud) och ett heterosexuellt (Jung) tolkningsföreträde. Gemensamt för Freud och Jung är att de inte drar en skarp skiljelinje mellan himmelska, jordiska och psykiska fenomen. I bådas religiösa dramaturgier är Gud en fadersrepresentation och en förövare. Han kommer antingen som en yttre infiltratör (Freud) eller är en inre glömskans sabotör (Jung). Genom årtusenden har Gudinnan hotats av jordiska erövrare (enligt Freud) eller glömts bort av Gud, samhället och den protestantiske mannen (enligt Jung). Hon återuppstår emellertid alltid i en ny skepnad. Och det är Maria. Hon får rollen som en sammanbindande kraft och tillskrivs att ha allt det som Gud saknar.

There is a development of religious consciousness in nowadays modern societies, that seeks the divine on the individual internal plane, gradually getting rid of dogmas and traditions. This incites a strong opposition reaction on the part of fundamentalists, defenders of the traditional, so they see themselves as divine while seeing people outside congregation as profane. This work investigates a psychological aspect behind this opposition reaction of fundamentalists towards people outside the congregation, using Carl G. Jung's theory of deep psychology as a tool. In order to achieve this, we used the qualitative research method to carry out a study of scientific literature and the published fundamentalist ideology of Christian pastor Steven L. Anderson, who lives and has his congregation in the United States of America. The way in which the fundamentalist sees people outside the congregation has more to do with the fundamentalist’s own ego than with the other people: it’s derived from a psychic process and is called shadow projection, according to Jung’s theory.

The importance of experience in relation to intellectual work has been of growing interest within historical research, as it focuses on the subjective, biographical, and thus historical conditions preceding any claim to abstract or objective knowledge. This paper explores the connection between experience and intellectual thought in relation to the Swiss psychologist Carl Gustav Jung (1875–1961), primarily through an examination of his autobiography. The analysis shows that experience was essential to Jung in several ways, and that he struggled with it as an intellectual, epistemological, and personal problem. His encounters with Kant, Nietzsche and Freud were especially formative in this regard, as they brought him theoretical and practical insights into the limits of communicable knowledge. Mystical experiences, beginning from hischildhood, gave rise to a dichotomy between the inner and the outer world, and with it a deep sense of solitude, which remained important throughout his life and work. The sense of being outside of his time informed his psychological conceptions of “the shadow”, individuation and the collective unconscious. However, Jung’s struggle to lend credibility to his experiences resulted not so much in recognized scientific knowledge as in what Nietzsche once called a “personal confession”.

Denna studie behandlar de didaktiska vinsterna med folksagor i undervisningen på gymnasiet. Vidare undersöks vilka sätt sagor kan användas på för att uppnå utvalda mål i svenskämnets centrala innehåll. I bakgrunden tecknas en bild över litteraturdidaktiken och läroplansteorins utveckling genom åren. Materialet består av en rumänsk och en svensk folksaga som analyseras utifrån av Joseph Campbells mytteori och utvalda delar av den tidigare forskningen som berör maktstrukturer, unga psykologiska utveckling samt sagans normativa innehåll. Metoden som används i detta arbete är arketypsanalysen som grundar sig i Carl Gustav Jungs teori om arketyper. I diskussionsavsnittet presenteras och diskuteras didaktiska vinster som den kompetenta och läsande elever och olika sätt att uppnå målen i det centrala innehållet med hjälp av folksagor. Några exempel på dessa sätt är möjligheten att urskilja och analysera hur makt porträtteras i sagor, hur unga psykologiska utveckling kan ta sig uttryck i sagokaraktärernas resa mot vuxenlivet eller hur berättelsens normativa innehåll kan synliggöra moraliska och etiska aspekter ur olika perspektiv. Avslutningsvis visas i denna studie att användningen av folksagor i litteraturundervisningen på gymnasiet har fördelar både gällande didaktiska vinster och sätt att uppnå målen i det centrala innehållet.

El propósito de esta tesina es analizar la repercusión del arquetipo de la madre como elemento esencial en el personaje de Pedro Páramo, en la obra Pedro Páramo, publicada en 1955, por el escritor mexicano Juan Rulfo. Para realizar este estudio, se ha elegido la teoría psicoanalítica de Carl Gustav Jung como base con la que estudiaremos dicho personaje. Esta teoría será utilizada también como herramienta de análisis y como prisma, a través del cual analizaremos los arquetipos que la figura de la madre representa: los mismos que Pedro Páramo buscaba en Susana San Juan. Por otro lado, miraremos más de cerca los elementos femeninos de la naturaleza, la tierra, analizándolos desde la perspectiva femenina.A través de nuestro análisis hemos podido comprobar la importancia del arquetipo de la madre y el anima en el desarrollo del personaje de Pedro Páramo, sobre quien recae la incompleta imagen del arquetipo de la madre como factor determinante de su conducta. Por último hemos llegado a entender la desilusión de Pedro Páramo, al vengarse de Comala, cuando se da cuenta de que fracasa en la integración con su anima.

This thesis is a literary analysis that discusses gender archetypes within two extensive literary works of Ladislav Klíma which he adapted into final pieces: Sufferings of Prince Sternenhoch and Glorious Nemesis. The methodological and theoretical part of the work examines the question of literary canon, defends feminist criticism as a legitimate approach to text analysis, looks back at the relatively short history of the use of gender as an analytical category, and represents a method of resistant reading. It also reflects the inspirational source of Klíma's authorship, the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche with an emphasis on gender aspects. Using classical feminist texts, works of literary theory, and the works that are central (not exclusively to feminist) analysis of (not only literary) archetypes identifies (mostly) female literary characters with some of the traditional (but also less common) archetypes - mother, witch, goddess of justice and fate, collaborator, and others.
