Online Recognition of Fuzzy Time Series Patterns

Herbst, Gernot 10 August 2009 (has links) (PDF)
This article deals with the recognition of recurring multivariate time series patterns modelled sample-point-wise by parametric fuzzy sets. An efficient classification-based approach for the online recognition of incompleted developing patterns in streaming time series is being presented. Furthermore, means are introduced to enable users of the recognition system to restrict results to certain stages of a pattern’s development, e. g. for forecasting purposes, all in a consistently fuzzy manner.

Parametric Fuzzy Modelling Framework for Complex Data-Inherent Structures

Hempel, Arne-Jens, Bocklisch, Steffen F. 17 September 2009 (has links) (PDF)
The present article dedicates itself to fuzzy modelling of data-inherent structures. In particular two main points are dealt with: the introduction of a fuzzy modelling framework and the elaboration of an automated, data-driven design strategy to model complex data-inherent structures within this framework. The innovation concerning the modelling framework lies in the fact that it is consistently built around a single, generic type of parametrical and convex membership function. In the first part of the article this essential building block will be defined and its assets and shortcomings will be discussed. The novelty regarding the automated, data-driven design strategy consist in the conservation of the modelling framework when modelling complex (nonconvex) data-inherent structures. Instead of applying current clustering methods the design strategy uses the inverse of the data structure in order to created a fuzzy model solely based on convex membership functions. Throughout the article the whole model design process is illustrated, section by section, with the help of an academic example.

Short-Time Prediction Based on Recognition of Fuzzy Time Series Patterns

Herbst, Gernot 05 July 2010 (has links) (PDF)
This article proposes knowledge-based short-time prediction methods for multivariate streaming time series, relying on the early recognition of local patterns. A parametric, well-interpretable model for such patterns is presented, along with an online, classification-based recognition procedure. Subsequently, two options are discussed to predict time series employing the fuzzified pattern knowledge, accompanied by an example. Special emphasis is placed on comprehensible models and methods, as well as an easy interface to data mining algorithms.

Ämnesorden i regnbågshyllan : ett queerteoretiskt perspektiv / Subject headings on the rainbow shelf : a queer theoretical perspective

Karlsson, Erika, Melander, Alexandra January 2015 (has links)
Rainbow shelves, shelves with a LGBTQ theme, are becoming popular in Swedish libraries, and may have been created to counteract the poor indexing of the fiction with LGBTQ themes. The purpose of this thesis is to examine how the books on this shelf are indexed in one Swedish library. In order to do so we first examine the subject headings list used to index fiction to see what LGBTQ subject headings there are and if they are lacking in any way. Then we examine the representation of these subject headings on the rainbow shelf to see how the shortcomings of the list influence the indexing. We also do a content analysis on the books found to have no LGBTQ subject headings to examine why they have been placed on the shelf. Are there shortcomings in the indexing of these books? We use queer theory to suggest that the shortcomings of the indexing is caused by the underlying heteronormativity of our society. We find that many LGBTQ words are not represented in the subject headings list and that heteronormativity is predominant but only made visible through what does not conform to the norm. The most prevalent LGBTQ subject headings in the rainbow shelf are those concerning homosexuality, while bisexuality and transgender subject headings are barely used at all. We find that the indexing of the books without LGBTQ terms in many cases is lacking, but in others it is a question of how you choose to interpret the book.

"Mer bio än bibliotek" : Klassifikation och medieuppställning i det senmoderna samhället / "More Cinema than Library" : Classification and Media Presentation in the Late Modern Society

Elnerud, Max January 2014 (has links)
This case study examines the new media presentation system in Alby public library. The aim is to explore if the contemporary Zeitgeist, wich according to the sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, could be described as liquid modernity, has affected how the system was formed. The purpose is to find out how that would affect users and staff of public libaries of the contemporary. Interviews were conducted with the library staff, and plans and documents concerning the media presentation system was examined. The empirical part of this thesis starts with a study of the process that resulted in the new presentation system while the second part examines the system as such. I discovered that both the media presentation system, and the process which preceded it, contained aspects that could be traced to liquid modernity. However, I also found lingering signs of solid modernity, wich is the term Bauman uses to denote the modern era. The media presentation system could thus be described as a combination of solid and liquid modernity. I argued that the new media arrangment is a compromise with several disadvantages for both users and the library staff. The interplay between solid and liquid modernity in the contemporary public library results in a divergent situation for users and staff. On the one hand, it gives more freedom to use the library according to their own ideas. However, old structures, such as classification systems, sets limits for this development.
