Détermination du niveau d'émission harmonique d'une installation raccordée au réseau de distribution / Determination of harmonic emission level of an installation connected to the distribution network

Denoel, Julien 18 November 2016 (has links)
In order to maintain good power quality, Distribution Systems Operators (DSOs) must keep harmonic voltage levels under limits specified in standards. These harmonic voltages result from non-linear equipment connected in installations, which inject harmonic currents into networks.A possible solution to solve this problem consists to implement emission limits per installation. In order to apply these limits, DSOs need to have an accurate and reliable indicator to assess the harmonic emission of an installation. In this context, we studied different methods from the literature. We implemented each of them on several simplified distribution networks in order to evaluate them on several criteria. First, we identified the most interesting definitions from the literature, and emphasized their respective theorical limits. Then, we improved one of these definitions by proposing a new solution: the “four-quadrants” definition. This new definition is able to assess the harmonic current injected by an installation into the network by using current and voltage measurements at the point of common coupling of this installation. Its main advantage in comparison to other methods is a better detection of “medium” disturbing installations over the network. This advantage has been confirmed by implementing the proposed solution in simulation on a distribution network derived from the CIGRE benchmark.

Relationship between sensory processing and self care for children with autism ages two to four

Kay, Sonia 01 January 2001 (has links)
Objective. The research goal was to determine if behaviors indicative of sensory processing dysfunction are present in children with autism, if these behaviors can be grouped into distinctive patterns, and if there is a relationship between sensory processing dysfunction and self-care abilities. Method. Parents of 30 male children with autism ages 2–4 completed a Dunn Sensory Profile and a Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scale. A one sample t-test and Spearman rho calculation were used for data analysis. Results. Sixty percent of the 3–4 year old group scored below negative 1 standard deviation on the Sensory Profile. This group also exhibited a pattern of sensory dysfunction in auditory, tactile, and oral systems. For the total group, there was a statistically significant correlation (rs = .646, p = .01) between the scores on Dunn Sensory Profile and Vineland and a statistically significant correlation (p = .05) between system threshold scores and Vineland. Conclusion. The data endorse a difference in sensory responsivity in children with autism which has a specific pattern. A relationship between sensory processing and the occupation of self-care is present. Response threshold is related to a child's self care performance. There is a developmental trend of increased atypical sensory behaviors in children with autism that may have clinical significance for the occupational therapist.

Brandt, Reinhard: D'Artagnan und die Urteilstafel : über ein Ordnungsprinzip der europäischen Kulturgeschichte. Stuttgart 1991 (Rezension)

Schneider, Ulrich Johannes 12 January 2015 (has links)

“The library is not a meeting place” : The public libraries' program activities during the Covid-19 pandemic and what the lingering consequences might be.

Lundin, Sebastian January 2022 (has links)
In 2020 a global pandemic began that affected libraries around the world. Due to government restrictions public libraries in Sweden were greatly limited in their operations. Within the public libraries' program activities, the amount of activities was halved. The library's response to continue to achieve the goals connected to the program activities was to undergo a shift from physical to digital.  The purpose of this study was to analyse the shift and its impact on the program activities, on the libraries' goals, and whether library staff believe that the shift has long-term consequences for the library. In the survey, representatives from the largest public libraries in eight provinces in Sweden participated in semi-structured interviews to share their experiences during the pandemic period and also their thoughts on the future.  The results showed a complete shift from physical to digital programs during the period. They had to change their way of working, acquire new equipment and skills to offer new programs and services to users digitally. But the shift brought problems: for example, when materials were to be published online, with digital participation, and because the program's goals became more difficult to achieve. Some benefits were also highlighted, including that digital activities attracted new users and an opportunity to participate regardless of distance to the library.  The conclusions that can be drawn from the survey is that the program activities will in part return to their original form before the pandemic. The respondents believed that some hybridization will take place, that selected physical programs will also be shown digitally, but that the digital development and the digital working methods will generally be limited to enable the library as a physical meeting place and the return of visitors.

Coordinating the Uncoordinated Giant: Applying the Four Flows Model of Communicative Constitution of Organizations to the United States Weather Enterprise

Rothrock, Matthew Carter 10 1900 (has links)
Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) / The US weather enterprise includes academia, the private weather industry, and government-funded forecasting, research, and dissemination agencies. While not an organization in its own right, the enterprise behaves like an organization of organizations. This thesis applies the communicative constitution of organizations, and McPhee and Zaug’s four flows model in particular, to the US weather enterprise. Each organization in the weather enterprise behaves like individual members of an organization would, which extends this theory to a conceptualization of organization that increases innovation, collaboration, and coordination. The weather is a constitutive force which calls the US weather enterprise into being. Finally, CCO is extended to other collaborative, coordinated efforts among the public and private sectors, indicating the possibilities of CCO as an attractive answer to the great organizational questions of the 21st century and beyond. Future research areas are considered, including how the US weather enterprise manages the unexpected and reduces uncertainty organizationally. Also, considerations as to how CCO can be applied to the incident command structure, often called forward during high-impact weather events, will be made.

The portrayal of subjectivity in selected dystopian novels

Naudé, Bernard January 2015 (has links)
In his Truth and Method, Gadamer explains that subjectivity is the everyday understanding that allows us to engage with the world. Gadamer identifies three main aspects that effect our understanding, namely history, language and dialogue. Dystopian fiction is in a unique position to portray how systems of societal control affect and effect understanding, and thus subjectivity, because dystopian fiction primarily explores societies rather than only individuals. This dissertation applies Gadamer’s framework of subjectivity to George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World to analyse their portrayals of subjectivity critically. Huxley’s imagined world of test-tube births, rampant consumerism, feelies and orgy-porgies depicts a subjectivity that is nearly completely controlled through the manipulation of history, language and dialogue, with the exception of a few rebellious characters. But Orwell’s Oceania is far grimmer, and the systems of control in place to manipulate history, language and dialogue create a harsh environment in which Winston Smith, the protagonist, struggles to assert his individuality, his own subjectivity, until the liberating sexual relationship he has with Julia. Although both novels depict stringent measures of control, the possibility of rebellion is present in the worlds depicted in both novels, suggesting that despite the manipulation around subjectivity’s three main pillars, as identified by Gadamer, something else provides the impetus for the characters’ understanding of rebellion. Therefore, the study also analyses the characters’ pre-understandings, as explained by Nietzsche and Heidegger, as sources for a wider framework. Through the novels’ portrayals of rebellion, these pre-understandings are shown to complement and inform Gadamer’s framework of subjectivity. / Dissertation (MA)--University of Pretoria, 2015. / English / MA (English) / Unrestricted
