A LABVIEW-BASED CHANNEL ERROR SIMULATOR

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 25-28, 1999 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada / A PC-based space channel error simulator that includes differing forward and return data links, independent statistical characterization of the data links, and link propagation delay has been developed. The LabVIEW programming language has been used to configure this containing all of the error generation and processing in software. The simulator is used for testing networking protocols in a simulated space channel environment and can be used for other types of channels as well. This paper describes the design goals, hardware configuration, software, and testing of the simulator. This technique allows for rapid development and validation of the simulator.

FPGA systems can have a wide variety of applications within electrical engineering, product development, and prototyping. Their flexibility, low cost, and high performance have made it burst into the market with results that exceeded many expectations. National Instruments offers several software and hardware that integrate FPGA systems in their design and implementation. In this thesis work, a NI FPGA system is used along with LabVIEW myRIO 2014 software to run a graphical FPGA code, hence, identifying best practices that must be associated with using the software and the hardware of National Instruments FPGA interfaces and also compare different methods for programming, communication, and data conversion of the FPGA interfaces.

The function of a turbine governor is to maintain the grid frequency close to the nominal value, which in the Nordic grid is 50 Hz. This thesis uses a standard turbine governor from Vattenfall AB, which is implemented with a PLC. The turbine governor gives a control signal which controls the guide vane opening and thus the water flow through the turbine. A test bench for the turbine governor was created where the software LabView was used together with special hardware. The software simulates a Francis hydro power turbine, which gives a feedback signal to the turbine governor. Data for the hydro power turbine, used in the simulation, has been taken from an actual power plant. The user of the test bench has the possibility to choose between actions and to change parameters. For example to give start or stop order, or change setpoint. In this thesis has, for example, a change of guide vane opening setpoint, a grid disturbance, and stops of the turbine, been tested. Validation shows that the result agrees reasonably well with the reality. The result leads to the conclusion that it is possible to create a test bench for the turbine governor with the aid of LabView.

This report contains a programming improvement work in a LabVIEW™ fire testing furnace control system for SP Fire Technology in Borås. Here materials and products behaviour are tested and evaluated, being exposed to fire. For this task, UGNET is being used for control and surveillance of the testing furnace system. System hardware has been updated gradually through the years, while the software has been neglected. The task consisted of gaining knowledge of LabVIEW™ and the control system in whole. A further necessary measure is needed concerning program interface and localisation and elimination of useless code and program errors. Documentation from the work is presented in this report.The project group have approach these problems by analyzing code structure, searching and eliminating errors within the program and creating useful functions. All the updates has carefully been tested and checked during live furnace tests in the laboratory. Improvements have been made continuously in consultation with furnace operators and support from Benima.The work has resulted in a modern and well functioning UGNET program interface, eliminated useless code and a number of new useful program functions. / Uppsatsnivå: D

<p>Vår uppgift var att ta fram en algoritm för hur lastens massa förhåller sig till hydraultrycket i ett hydraulsystem för en truck. Algoritmen skulle sedan implementeras i en vågprototyp. Lösningen skulle vara kostnadseffektiv.</p><p>För att undersöka sambandet utfördes mätserier där vi provade olika komponenter. Resultatet av mätserierna analyserades och vi fann ett samband mellan massan och hydraultrycket. Med hjälp av sambandet kunde sedan programkod för en vågprototyp skrivas tillsammans med tillhörande funktioner.</p><p>Resultatet blev en fungerande vågprototyp för trucken som användes. Denna prototyp behöver dock testas och utvärderas ytterligare på fler truckar innan en eventuell slutprodukt kan bli aktuell.</p> / <p>Our task was to develop an algorithm for the relationship between mass and hydraulic pressure in a hydraulic system in a forklift. The algorithm was then to be implemented in a prototype of a forklift scale. The solution had to be cost-effective.</p><p>To examine the relationship we performed series of measurements in which various components were tested. The results of the measurements were analyzed and we found a correlation between mass and hydraulic pressure. Due to this we could write a code for a forklift scale prototype with features.</p><p>The forklift scale prototype worked on the forklift that we used but it needs to be tested and evaluated further in more forklifts before a final product can be made.</p>

A versatile simulation tool for virtual implementation of proportional integral and derivative (PID) controllers

This thesis proposes an interactive software tool that can be used to compute complete sets of Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) Controllers from knowledge of the plant transfer function/frequency response data. This is based on research results and algorithms developed by Bhattacharyya and others. Until these research results were published, it was not known if a nominal system could be stabilized using PID Controllers, and current PID Controller designs are carried out using ad hoc tuning rules. By using simulations, engineers can best plan for and observe the stabilizing effect each of the variables has on system performance in a realistic environment. The software application developed calculates and optimizes complete stabilizing sets of PID Controllers for a rational Linear Time Invariant (LTI) system, and has been developed for analytical models of plants with and without time delay. Further, these PID Controller sets are optimized to project subsets simultaneously satisfying multiple performance index specifications. Sets of PID Controllers that stabilize a system are also calculated automatically from knowledge of the frequency response of the plant. It allows the user ease of design and the ability to customize the final solution while permitting full control over source parameters. This thesis includes an introduction to the algorithms that have been developed for plant stabilization, a complete description of the graphical user interface, the simulation of the algorithms performed using LabVIEW, and a summary of future work.

Completion of the software required for a high-temperature DLTS setup

The main purpose of this thesis was to examine the communication problems with the DLTS set up in the Division for Electricity at Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala, Sweden, and to make the DLTS software complete. The set up consisted of a C/V meter, a pulse generator, a temperature controller and a PC with a control program written in LabVIEW. It was found that the software had been constructed to fit another set of instruments than the set up currently used at Ångström Laboratory. Automatization of test rig for microwave ovens

The thesis work is a part of a project where the major goal is to improve the efficiency of the evaluations of microwave ovens at Whirlpool Sweden AB. The purpose of the work has been to develop an automatic control and measurement system for microwave ovens. In an earlier thesis work, a test rig has been developed and this test rig has been further developed to an autonomous system. The software for this system is developed in LabVIEW and interfaces to some measuring instruments has been implemented for the system. As a plan for the programming work, UML-diagrams were created in Visual Paradigm To make it easy for the user to handle the system, a user interface has been created in LabVIEW. The system handles different XML-files: oven profiles and test profiles, which are defined by the user. An oven profile contains coordinates for specific positions at the front of a microwave oven, e.g. button positions and corners. There will be one oven profile per oven model. A test profile contains different stages with position names, operations and time delays. The position names are the names of the positions defined in the oven profile. The results from a measurement will be saved in a CSV-file.

Identification of parameters for a DC-motor by LabVIEW

Abstract In this bachelor thesis we focus on how the computer software LabVIEW test is used to a DC-motor through as a hardware incremental encoder and a USB-6009. By using LabVIEW, we can do pulse counting, voltage changing test, voltage signal acquiring and some other observing jobs. This paper is a report of our mechanical operation and calculative work about the DC motor as well. The using DC motor's model number is E-660. Since we cannot find the official data of the DC motor we need, we tried to find some similar motor model to compare. Fortunately, we find some data. Even it is unofficial data from eBay website. However, these data can be seen as reference of our motor. Therefore we can compare the data from the laboratory and the theoretical ones. For the other part of the thesis is about the incremental encoder, the model we used in project is DG 63 KA. We just can find a similar type and it as a reference. The model we find similar to the actual one is DG 60L and through the measurement and comparison, we manage to test the encoder pattern is the same as the reference.     Eventually, we can still do some calculations and analysis with the measured data.
