A Study of Process Excellence and Quality Performance

Hung, Ming-hung 28 May 2007 (has links)
In the ongoing pursuit of excellence in products and services, many enterprises have been seeking ways to ensure their superiority in process and quality. To improve competitiveness, many management techniques and concepts have been tried, for example; TQM, Lean Thinking (Lean Production), Six Sigma, and Design for Six Sigma, etc. These are quality management systems currently having widespread application in virtually all well-known companies. This empirical study utilizes a questionnaire to explore the relationship between Process Excellence (PE) with that of quality performance (QP). In a correlation analysis we have found a positive correlation between QP and such categories as ¡§leadership and information analysis¡¨ ¡§resource utilization and participation¡¨ ¡§improvement of quality process¡¨ ¡§clear objectives and customer oriented¡¨. We have also found that two of these categories ¡§improvement of quality process¡¨ and ¡§leadership and information analysis¡¨ play especially important roles in raising QP performance. We can conclude that the greater the emphasis on these two items the better will be the performance of QP. We are also assured that the company can experience continuous quality improvement by acting on the basis of the above research findings.

A study to the consultants of transforming from quality management to six sigma

Hao, Chih-cheng 23 June 2003 (has links)
Abstract Six Sigma is a kind of quality control system originated in Motorola. It did not receive great attention of the world until the successful experience of Six Sigma in General Electric Company was made public. From then on, the world-famous enterprises started to introduce Six Sigma into their companies. In view of the great contributions of the Six Sigma quality control system implemented in Europe and America toward financial performance as well as the demands of customers who have carried out the Six Sigma quality control system, numerous domestic enterprises considered to introduce the quality control system as an important tool for improving their competitive ability in recent years. Going alone with such a trend, now many management consultants in Taiwan are facing the challenge of transformation. It seems that Six Sigma is a combination of the tools and techniques we used before, in which nothing is new. However, its managing philosophy and methodology do create achievements that can¡¦t be found in other management system. From the viewpoint of an enterprise under guidance, the author drew a conclusion of this study based on the in-depth interviews of the enterprises that actually promote the Six Sigma activity, and submitted the results of the study on transformation of such management consultants to be Six Sigma consultants. The main contributions of this study are as the following: 1. To establish a Six Sigma consulting procedure and list the main tasks of each step for the reference of domestic management consultants who plan to devote themselves to the guidance and instruction of Six Sigma quality control system. 2. To make suggestions to interview of the enterprises which have adopted the Six Sigma quality control system on continuous promotion of the system and further improvement of their performance. 3. To submit the prerequisites for an excellent Six Sigma consultant for the reference of the consultants who intend to engage in or have been engage in the consulting service of Six Sigma.

Avvägning mellan ordersärkostnad och lagerhållningskostnad i processindustrin

Näversten, Marcus, Bengtsson, Johan January 2010 (has links)

Lean Production is used by many manufacturing companies. Companies in process industries do not use Lean Production to the same extent today. This is part of the report's issue to explore how Lean Production can be applied to a company in the process industries.

The investigated company is a processing company that manufactures various types of foil. The company wishes to streamline its production and has therefore asked the authors to examine if Lean Production can offer the company improvements in their production. Lean Production value stream mapping tool has been selected to identify and analyze the current state of two of its products in production. From the survey cost estimates was carried out on the basis of proposals for improving production. There were also theoretical frameworks used to examine the benefits that Lean Production can give a company in the process industries.

From the results it is clear that the company in the current situation does not achieve any economic benefit of reducing their inventory costs. This is because the startup costs are greater than inventory costs. However, the authors found that a company in the process industry has much to gain from the Lean Production philosophy. The authors found some of the tools used in Lean Production difficult to implement, but the philosophy and thinking were considered to have a lot to contribute to a company in the process industry.

Forzelius, Anna, Skogeryd, Maria January 2008 (has links)

Bakgrund

/
Background

Swedish healthcare has today among the best treatment results in Europe, despite that the discussion about healthcare in Sweden is often pursued in negative terms. In an attempt to enhance the opinion about the organization and try to become more efficient, Swedish

healthcare has often used commercial models, however, the models has needed adjustments to function in the healthcare environment. One of the latest models that now are implemented in Swedish healthcare is Lean Healthcare which is the healthcare version of Toyota´s production

philosophy Lean Production. Much of the previous research has focused on Lean Production but little is to be found about Lean Healthcare. This study is a contribution to extend the knowledge about Lean Healthcare in Sweden.

Aim

The aim with this study is to describe how the Lean philosophy functions in Swedish healthcare and to compare Lean Production with other commercial models that earlier have been implemented in Swedish healthcare.

Completion

Through interviews on three healthcare units in Sweden a case study has been conducted with focus on Lean Production and Lean Healthcare.

Findings

The findings of this study show that Lean Healthcare, in resemblance with earlier commercial models, has needed adjustments to function in the healthcare context. It has also shown that the examined units only have implemented some of the parts of the philosophy.

Extreme Production - Administration Makeover : ur ett informationslogistiskt perspektiv

Granlund, Mirva, Hjerling, Sandra January 2007 (has links)

/
Extreme Production Makeover™ caught our interest before we began to write our C-essay. The method is about transformation and how to make a production line more efficient in order to raise the productivity level within a short timeframe. Since we are about to gradu-ate in Information logistics, we are curious to find out if Extreme Production Makeover™ is transferable to administrative and service flows, from an information logistics perspec-tive.

Within the area of production, there has been a long tradition to work with efficiency and improvements. Our studies of efficiency methods within administrative flows indicate that these methods are not as widespread within the service trades. How come?

In general, the procedure of changing administrative and service flows is a long process, however, if an Extreme Production Makeover™ could be accomplished during a short timeframe, so could probably also Extreme Administration Makeover.

Aim:

The aim of our study is to examine and compare production flow efficiency along with ef-ficiency in administrative and service flows. We want to illustrate the benefit of using in-formation logistics in structural changes, for both companies and personnel working with process efficiency. The result of our study is an action plan for Extreme Administration Makeover.

Method:

Our essay was created as a proposal; we did not test or evaluate Extreme Administration Makeover in reality. We have studied a variety of literature linked to information logistics and the efficacy of different flows, which we have summarized and illustrate under the heading Theory. In order to support the theory further, we spoke to key personnel within Extreme Production Makeover™ and Lean Forum and determined how the methods could be compared and applied. The result of these discussions is presented in the Em-pirical research. Furthermore, we have added our knowledge about information logistics and created an action plan, with an attached model exclusively for Extreme Administration Makeover. Accordingly, the result presented in the Analysis is followed by a Conclusion.

Delimitation:

We have chosen to limit our essay to the methods of traditional production efficiency and Lean Production, although we are well aware that there are several other methods for change.

Results:

Parts of a transformation plan could be accomplished during a short, or minimally short timeframe, however, in order to establish a deeply rooted work process, particularly the underlying force, and to permeate this vision into the enterprise, almost certainly requires more time. The outcome depends on the individuals affected and involved in the process. By establishing deeply rooted thoughts, goals and visions throughout the organisation, a solid foundation generates a sound transformation, which is crucial for a positive outcome.

Working preparations in production at Peab

Larsson, Linus, Andersson, Henrik January 2009 (has links)
