From the human capital to capability : an analysis of individual pathways within the french process of accreditation of prior experience

Lecourt, Anne-juliette 28 October 2011 (has links)
This thesis analyses the individual pathways within the process of accreditation of prior experience (VAE), fighting inequalities of qualification access. This new right makes people responsible to put work experience to advantage, through getting qualification on the basis of work and individual experience, without education. But, to open up a new legal way doesn’t make this right a reality. The aim is to observe phenomena of differentiations relative to the display of the VAE. We have enrich ressourcist and utilitarist hypothesis, which have been derived from labour market theories (Human Capital and Signalling Theories). We ask the question of the real display of the individual right of VAE and the notion of experience. Consequently, from the Capability perspective, we built an original framework to understand in what extent individual pathways depend on personal, environmental and social factors, not only experience which is expressed in number of years, as a rule in the Human Capital and Signalling Theories. These environmental, social and individual conversion factors establish the display of individual resources and rights within the VAE process. This set forms an individual structure of constraints and opportunities and determines the individual pathways. The Experience is multidimensional and diffused through these elements. This model, based on a national survey, highlights existence of different types of individual logics of choices, which means different real possibilities of actions, more or less constricted, and underlines overestimated, underestimated and invisible inequalities.

Facilitating the development of self-directed learning skills in information systems students.

Benvenuti, Susan Ann 07 January 2013 (has links)
Accelerating technological and social innovation drives the need for graduates ready for self-directed lifelong learning. Self-directed learning (SDL) projects are now an integral part of many formal undergraduate programs across the disciplines. A Personal Development Portfolio (PDP) based on Grow’s Iterative Staged Self-directed Learning Model was introduced into a second year Information Systems course to raise awareness of the need for SDL and enable students to drive their own learning. The study evaluates the success of the PDP in preparing graduates as self-directed lifelong learners. Students’ reflective writing and learning journals, together with submitted portfolio work was taken as evidence of success and difficulties. Resistance often accompanies the changes introduced by SDL. This research therefore also explores the potential for business change management principles in mediating change to the educational environment. Student engagement with SDL was found to be accomplished with mixed success; most students demonstrated initial resistance, while many developed into focused reflective learners over time. While students were able to define appropriate learning goals and reflect on progress and achievement, mixed ability in specifying resources, strategies and validation to support their learning was found. Creating change readiness through messaging, cooperative SDL and using adapted change management models were of use in refining the SDL process.

Assis, Maria Tereza Bonitatibus de 22 June 2010 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Maria Tereza Bonitatibus de Assis.pdf: 763409 bytes, checksum: 6fa92849502e58f09ac87f7447f78ce7 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-06-22 / Aging should be understood as a process involving the interaction of biological, psychological and social dimensions, in addition to its heterogeneous character, which is responsible for the singularities of aging. An aging population means the surfacing of new demands that must be recognized as the possibilities for those individuals creating new life projects. At this stage, when faced with the changes inherent to aging, the elderly continues to socialize, acquiring new learning tools and finding new meanings to the knowledge that has been gained throughout life. This research was conducted at the Open College Senior Center Anhanguera at the University of Santo André (FATI / UNIA). Its main objectives are to characterize pedagogical guidelines, the curriculum developed, to identify the reasons behind the choice of the elderly to attend FATI / UNIA, and their participation in curricular activities. In addition, it is meant to analyze the significance of social interactions, learning experiences and their impact on the living conditions of these students . This field research, using a qualitative approach, includes interviews with seven elderly women whose average stay at FATI / UNIA was seven years. The data gathered showed the activities provided the elderly possibilities for self-assessment and an openness to change their behavior. Their newly acquired learning skills resulted in better acceptance by their families, improved self-esteem, and found new strengths needed to live fully satisfying lives in their twilight years / O envelhecimento deve ser compreendido como processo que envolve a interação das dimensões biológicas, psicológicas e sociais, além do seu caráter heterogêneo gerador das singularidades do envelhecer.
