Previous issue date: 2015-03-27 / Este trabalho insere-se no ?mbito da Lingu?stica Cognitiva, teoria que surgiu em
oposi??o ? abordagem modular gerativista a qual postula que a linguagem n?o ? aut?noma, faz
parte da cogni??o humana manifesta de processamento mental, de experi?ncia socioculturais e
corp?reas. Nosso objetivo ? descrever e analisar os mecanismos cognitivos de compreens?o
que atuam na organiza??o formal, ou seja, informa??es fornecidas pelas constru??es
lingu?sticas, e na organiza??o significativa da narrativa, a constru??o de sentido a partir da
ativa??o de estruturas cognitivas. Para estudo e verifica??o desse fen?meno, subsidiamo-nos no
referencial te?rico de Rapaport et al (1994) com o tratamento do centro d?itico, Zwann (1999)
e Zwaan e Radvansky (1998) com modelo de situa??o; Minsky (1974) com o conceito de frame,
Johnson (1987) e Duque e Costa (2012) com esquemas imag?ticos. Com esse prop?sito,
enfocamos a perspectiva d?itica (ONDE, QUANDO, QUEM), as estruturas cognitivas sociais
e corporais (frames e esquemas imag?ticos) e os modelos de situa??o constru?dos pelo
compreendedor a partir dessas estruturas cognitivas. Metodologicamente, trata-se de uma
pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, pautada na introspec??o. O corpus selecionado ? uma
amostragem de doze textos escritos por alunos do 8? ano, que consiste em narrativa ficcional, a
produ??o de p?ginas de di?rio. As an?lises s?o conduzidas por estruturas cognitivas destacadas
em Blocos Construcionais (BCs), as quais norteiam a discuss?o acerca de como constru?mos o
entendimento e a cria??o dos significados nas narrativas. O resultado depreendido aponta que
os eventos narrativos s?o representados mentalmente pelo compreendedor que concebe um
centro d?itico e guiado por esse centro d?itico tem acesso ? compreens?o e ? constru??o de
sentido da narrativa pelos dom?nios cognitivos estabelecidos pelas experi?ncias corp?reas e
socioculturais. / This work is within the framework of Cognitive Linguistics, which, as opposed to
generative modular approach posits that language is not autonomous but part of human
cognition manifest mental processing, socio-cultural and bodily experiences. Our goal is to
describe and analyze cognitive mechanisms of understanding who work in the formal and
meaningful organization of the narrative. In order to study and verification of this phenomenon,
this project was based in the theoretical framework of Rapaport et al (1994) with the treatment
of deictic center, Zwaan (1999) and Zwaan and Radvansky (1998) with situation models,
Minsky (1974) with the concept frame, Johnson (1987) and Duke and Costa (2012) with
pictorial schemes. To this end, we focused on the deictic perspective (WHERE, WHEN, WHO),
social cognitive structures (frames) and body (pictorial diagrams) and the situation of models
built by compreendedor from these cognitive structures. Methodologically, it is a qualitative
research (BAUER and GASKELL, 2002), of interpretive base (MOITA LOPES, 1994), based
on introspection (Talmy, 2005). The corpus selected is a sample of twelve texts written by 8th
grade students, whose production consists of fictional narrative, the production of diary pages.
The analyses were conducted by cognitive structures known as constructional blocks
(BCs)(SANTOS, 2011), which guid the discussion about how we build understanding and
creation of meanings in narratives. The result shows that the narrative events are mentally
represented by the understander that conceives a deictic center and that, guided by it, has access
to understanding and construction of meaning in narrative by means of cognitive domains
established by bodily and socio-cultural experiences.

To this, it adopts frames model applied to discuss analyzes (DUQUE, 2015), with this, it is possible to verify cognitive mechanisms activation based on various dimensions, and to identify a sense reticulated structure around discuss. To reach out objectives, it takes support in the Cognitive Linguistic of an embodied base, particularly some principles as categorizations notions (WITTGENSTEIN, 1953; ROSCH et al., 1976; LAKOFF, 1987) and embodiment (MERLEAU-PONTY, 1945, 1964; LAKOFF, JOHNSON, 1999; EVANS, GREEN, 2006), as well as two analytical categories: frames (FILLMORE, 1976; GALLESE, LAKOFF, 2005; FELDMAN, 2006; LAKOFF, 2009; LAKOFF, WEHLING, 2012; DUQUE, 2015) and metaphors (LAKOFF, JOHNSON, 1980 [2002]; LAKOFF, 2008). This research has a qualitative nature, since analyze is related to a totality of a specific phenomenon, sense construction, to this, it does not use numerical representatives or values quantification (GERHARDT; SILVEIRA, 2009). Information from analyzes suggest a pattern about the way this thematic is cognitively built in the lyrics written by Roberto and Erasmo Carlos in 80?s, with a moral conservatism perspective used to treat NATURE and SEX subjects.

Copa do Mundo de Futebol 2014. Partindo da hip?tese de que conceptualizar consiste em um processo mental que possibilita ordenar e dar sentido ao mundo por meio das experi?ncias perceptuais e sociais de cada ser num determinado ambiente, faz-se necess?rio recorrer ?s no??es de categoriza??o (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 1999), Modelos Cognitivos Idealizados ? esquemas de imagem (JOHNSON, 1987; LAKOFF, 1987), modelos proposicionais (LAKOFF, 1987) e modelos meton?micos e metaf?ricos (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 1980; LAKOFF, 1987; FELTES, 2007) ? e infer?ncias (LAKOFF, 1993). Para a realiza??o deste estudo, o corpus selecionado ? composto por 15 (quinze) textos elaborados por alunos da 2? s?rie do Ensino M?dio noturno de uma escola da rede p?blica estadual, situada em Natal/RN. Tendo em vista o referencial te?rico e a natureza dos dados, adota-se a metodologia qualitativa (CASSEL; SYMON, 1994; GOLDENBERG, 1999) apoiada no paradigma da introspec??o (TALMY, 2005), que parte das percep??es individuais do pesquisador diante de um objeto a ser estudado. A partir da an?lise, atesta-se que a intera??o entre os elementos verbais e visuais dispostos nas charges atuam como guias de sentido e envolvem diversas percep??es ancoradas nos saberes individuais e partilhados entre os alunos. Verifica-se ainda nas produ??es textuais que alguns alunos ultrapassam o entendimento das pistas fornecidas pelos textos multimodais, evidenciando a import?ncia dos Modelos Cognitivos Idealizados (LAKOFF, 1987) na fundamenta??o desta pesquisa. Dessa maneira, ratifica-se o pressuposto cognitivista de que a conceptualiza??o e, consequentemente, a constru??o de infer?ncias s?o atividades cognitivas complexas que envolvem experi?ncias corp?reas e sociais. / This study is based on the theoretical principles of Cognitive Linguistics and aims to investigate how conceptualization processes take place as students read cartoons related to the 2014 Football World Cup. Assuming that conceptualizing consist of mental processe that allow the organization and understanding of the world through each subject?s perceptual and social experiences in a particular environment, it is necessary to resort to categorization notions (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 1999), Idealized Cognitive Models - imagetic schemes (JOHNSON, 1987; LAKOFF, 1987), propositional models (LAKOFF, 1987) and metonymic and metaphoric models (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 1980; LAKOFF, 1987; FELTES, 2007) - and inferences (LAKOFF, 1993). For this study, the selected corpus is composed of fifteen (15) texts produced by 2nd grade students attending a night class in a public high school, located in Natal / RN. Given the theoretical framework and the nature of the data, a qualitative methodology is adopted (CASSEL; SYMON, 1994; GOLDENBERG, 1999) supported by introspection analysis (TALMY, 2005), departing from the researcher?s individual perceptions about an object to be studied. Based on the analysis, we verify that the interaction between verbal and visual elements arranged in cartoons act as guides in meaning making and involve different perceptions rooted in individual and shared knowledge among students. Moreover, the textual productions reveal that some students go beyond the understanding of the clues provided by the multimodal texts, highlighting the importance of Idealized Cognitive Models (LAKOFF, 1987) in the grounds of this research. Thus, it confirms the cognitivist assumption that the conceptualization and hence the construction of inferences are complex cognitive activities that involve embodied and social experiences.

tem por base o aporte te?rico da Lingu?stica Cognitiva corporificada. Nesse sentido, a
base te?rica para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa foi o pressuposto de linguagem
corporificada defendido por Lakoff (1987, 1990,1999), Lakoff e Johnson (1980),
Fillmore (1982, 1985), Feldman (2006) e Duque (2015). Em sendo assim, o ponto de
partida desta investiga??o decorre do pressuposto de que o processo de constru??o de
sentido est? atrelado ? ativa??o de mecanismos cognitivos existentes no c?rebro humano,
modelados pelas experi?ncias corp?reas em constante intera??o com o meio e
armazenados como mem?ria. Tendo isso em vista, esta disserta??o busca analisar o
envolvimento dos frames, mecanismos neurais que s?o acionados por pistas lingu?sticas,
durante a compreens?o do discurso em textos dissertativo-argumentativos, fundamentais
para organizar e ordenar o mundo sociocultural. Com base nisso, observou-se, no
decorrer da descri??o e an?lise dos frames, a exist?ncia de um direcionamento para a
constru??o de uma concep??o b?sica em torno de um frame ?nico, que pode ser
acionado em qualquer parte do discurso. / The main purpose of this dissertation is to investigate on activation of the underlying frames
of meaning construction in the dissertative-argumentative texts. During the research work
were selected, from the UOL?s Writing Bank, dissertative-argumentative texts for the corpus
composition of this search. This study has the theoretical contribution of embodied Cognitive
Linguistics as base. So the theoretical basis for the development of the search was the premise
of embodied language, defended by George Lakoff (1987, 1990, 1999), Filmore (1982, 1985),
Feldman (2006), Duque (2015) and Lakook & Johnson (1980). Therefore, the start of this
investigation is the assumption that the meaning construction process is linked to the
activation of cognitive mechanisms in the human brain, modeled by the body experiences in
constant interaction with the midst and stored as memory. Knowing it, this dissertation look
for, following the meaning construction process, analyze the frames involvement, neural
mechanisms that are triggered by language cues while the speech comprehension, important
to organize and order the social-cultural world. Consequently, it is also intended to identify of
these cognitive mechanisms. Based on this, it was observed, during the description and
analysis of the frames, the existence of a direction for the construction of a basic conception
around a single frame, that can be activated in any part of the discourse.

Tomo por base, especificamente, a Teoria Neural da Linguagem (FELDMAN, 2006) e, em conson?ncia com esse arcabou?o te?rico-metodol?gico, utilizo as no??es de categoriza??o (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 1999), corporalidade (GIBBS, 2005), figuratividade (GIBBS, 1994; BERGEN, 2005) e simula??o mental (BARSALOU, 1999; FELDMAN, Ibid.). A hip?tese defendida ? a de que a constru??o da figuratividade em textos constitu?dos por mecanismos verbais e n?o verbais est? atrelada ? ativa??o de estruturas neurais relacionadas a nossas a??es e percep??es. Desse modo, a linguagem ? considerada uma faculdade cognitiva ligada ao aparato cerebral e ?s experi?ncias corp?reas, de maneira que ela fornece amostras do processo cont?nuo de (re)constru??o de sentidos efetivado pelo leitor, o qual (re)define suas vis?es acerca do mundo ? medida que certas redes neurais s?o (ou deixam de ser) ativadas durante o processamento lingu?stico. Dados obtidos na an?lise apontam que, no tocante ?s hist?rias em quadrinhos, a leitura dos recursos gr?ficos integrada ? da linguagem verbal parece ter um papel importante na constru??o de met?foras e de meton?mias, havendo casos, inclusive, de met?foras metonimicamente motivadas. Essas conclus?es adv?m da an?lise de dados retirados da obra V de vingan?a (MOORE; LLOYD, 2006). O estudo do corpus ? pautado na metodologia da introspec??o, isto ?, a an?lise individual dos aspectos lingu?sticos conforme se manifestam na pr?pria cogni??o do sujeito (TALMY, 2005). / The object of this study is the construction of metaphor and metonymy in comics. This work is inserted in the field of Embodied Cognitive Linguistics, specifically based on the Neural Theory of Language (FELDMAN, 2006) and, consistent with this theoretical and methodological framework, the notions of categorization (LAKOFF & JOHNSON, 1999), embodiment (GIBBS, 2005), figurativity (GIBBS, 1994; BERGEN, 2005), and mental simulation (BARSALOU, 1999; FELDMAN, 2006) have also been used. The hypothesis defended is that the construction of figurativity in texts consisting of verbal and nonverbal mechanisms is linked to the activation of neural structures related to our actions and perceptions. Thus, language is considered a cognitive faculty connected to the brain apparatus and to bodily experiences, in such a way that it provides samples of the continuous process of meaning (re)construction performed by the reader, whom (re)defines his or her views about the world as certain neural networks are (or stop being) activated during linguistic processing. The data obtained during the analysys shows that, as regards comics, the act of reading together the graphics and verbal language seems to have an important role in the construction of figurativity, including cases of metaphors which are metonymically motivated. These preliminary conclusions were drawn from the data analysis taken from V de Vingan?a (MOORE; LLOYD, 2006). The corpus study was guided by the methodology of introspection, i.e., the individual analysis of linguistic aspects as manifested in one's own cognition (TALMY, 2005).

language. Within an embodied cognition perspective to language, it may be understood
that the senses generated and used in discourse are built and negotiated not only
linguistically, since they also involve stereotypes, schemes, frames, etc. These cognitive
structures, in turn, would emerge from subjects experiences and interactions with a sociohistorically
constituted environment. With that in mind, what would happen if someone had
an altered view in the perception of such environment? The objective of this master s
thesis was to understand the process of meaning construction, aiming at the activation of
frames, in the discourse of people who have been diagnosed as schizophrenic and have
been hospitalized, that is, individuals who have their socio-environmental perception
affected. With that aim in mind, a speech corpus was generated with three schizophrenic
patients from Professor Severino Lopes Psychiatric Hospital. The data were collected and
analyzed qualitatively, based on the theoretical and analytical premises of Cognitive
Linguistics, more specifically, of Simulation Semantic perspective. Therefore, it was
possible to identify aspects related to meaning construction processes in the discourse of
schizophrenic patients, understanding that language is integrated with cognition and
culture. Therefore, the alteration in the way experiences are perceived by schizophrenic
patients affect the linguistic production of these subjects. Finally, if we take into
consideration that the mental disturbance caused by schizophrenia results in a change in
perception of reality by these individuals, we can infer an implication of such factors in
language and, subsequently, the interference of such issues in the meaning construction
processes in the discourse of patients diagnosed with schizophrenia / Muito ainda h? para se compreender acerca das rela??es entre cultura, cogni??o e

processos de constru??o do sentido, tendo em vista a ativa??o de frames, na fala de
pessoas diagnosticadas como esquizofr?nicas em situa??o de interna??o, isto ?,
indiv?duos que t?m um afetamento na percep??o de seu entorno social. Visando tal foco,
gerou-se um corpus da fala de tr?s pacientes com esquizofrenia, internos do Hospital
Psiqui?trico Professor Severino Lopes, sob uma abordagem metodol?gica qualitativa de
pesquisa, utilizando-se dos pressupostos te?ricos e anal?ticos da Lingu?stica Cognitiva,
mais especificamente da perspectiva da Simula??o Sem?ntica. Vislumbra-se, portanto, a
compreens?o de aspectos relacionados aos processos de constru??o do sentido na fala
de pessoas com esquizofrenia, entendendo-se que a linguagem est? integrada ?
cogni??o e ? cultura. Ent?o, a altera??o na maneira como as experi?ncias s?o percebidas
afetam a produ??o lingu?stica. Por fim, entendendo que a desestrutura??o mental
ocasionada pela afeta??o esquizofr?nica acarreta numa mudan?a nos modos de
percep??o da realidade pelo indiv?duo, pode-se inferir a implica??o desses fatores para
com a linguagem e, subsequentemente, a interfer?ncia de tais quest?es sobre o sentido

Para isso, parto do pressuposto de que a aplica??o do Modelo de Gram?tica de Constru??o Corporificada na an?lise de idiomatismos, em contextos espec?ficos de uso, fornece subs?dios ? compreens?o do fen?meno estudado, pois evidencia: como frames, esquemas e proje??es metaf?ricas se integram na produ??o de especifica??es sem?nticas (semspec); como essas semspec s?o resolvidas no ?mbito dos contextos situacional e discursivo; e de que maneira as infer?ncias s?o produzidas durante o processamento discursivo. Nessa empreitada, recorro ?s no??es de categoriza??o (LAKOFF, 1987; FELDMAN, 2006), constru??es (BERGEN, CHANG, 2003, 2005), frames (LAKOFF, 2004; DUQUE, 2015), framing (LAKOFF, 2004), esquemas (LAKOFF, 1987; JOHNSON, 1987; DUQUE, 2015), met?foras (LAKOFF, JOHNSON, 1980, 1999; LAKOFF, 2008), contexto (VAN DIJK, 2012), corporalidade (LAKOFF, JOHNSON, 1999; BERGEN, 2005, 2010), affordances (GIBSON, 1977, 1979) e idiomaticidade (FILLMORE, KAY, O?CONNOR, 1988; SILVA, 2012). A hip?tese defendida ? a de que as express?es idiom?ticas ajustam um conjunto de mapeamentos metaf?ricos com base no framing, processo de modelagem de frames, por meio do qual o discurso ? estruturado. O corpus deste trabalho ? constitu?do pelas express?es idiom?ticas ?abandonar o barco?, ?chutar o balde?, ?agarrar com unhas e dentes? e ?filho de peixe peixinho ?? distribu?das em 15 textos retirados da internet por meio do mecanismo de busca Google. A metodologia utilizada ? de cunho qualitativo, uma vez que permite a realiza??o de uma an?lise emp?rica dos dados, sem a preocupa??o de recorrer a informa??es quantitativas, e se alicer?a no Modelo de An?lise Construcional, que apresenta um formalismo de an?lise lingu?stica feito especificamente para compor uma modelagem de constru??o de sentido baseada em simula??o. As informa??es obtidas na an?lise indicam que as express?es idiom?ticas n?o s? associam significados convencionalizados e esquem?ticos, mas tamb?m integram elementos como a??es, infer?ncias e abstra??es, influenciando a organiza??o discursiva e os processos de constru??o de sentido dos textos. / In this thesis, we investigate the role of idiomatic expressions in the process of meaning construction and its implications for speech. To that end, we assume that the application of the Grammar Model for Embodied Construction in the analysis of idiomatisms, in specific contexts of use, provides subsidies for the understanding of the studied phenomenon, since it highlights the way in which frames, schemes and metaphorical projections are integrated in the production semantic specifications (semspec); the way in which these ?semspec? are addressed in the scope of the situational and discursive contexts; and the way in which the inferences are produced throughout the discursive processing. In this work, we rely on the notions of categorization (LAKOFF, 1987; FELDMAN, 2006), constructions (BERGEN, CHANG, 2003, 2005), frames (LAKOFF, 2004; DUQUE, 2015), framing (LAKOFF, 2004), schemes (LAKOFF, 1987; JOHNSON, 1987; DUQUE, 2015), metaphors (LAKOFF, JOHNSON, 1980, 1999; LAKOFF, 2008), context (VAN DIJK, 2012), corporeality (LAKOFF, JOHNSON, 1999; BERGEN, 2005, 2010), affordances (GIBSON, 1977, 1979) and idiomaticity (FILLMORE, KAY, O?CONNOR, 1988; SILVA, 2012). The advocated hypothesis claims that idiomatic expressions organize a set of metaphorical mappings based on framing, i.e., the framework modeling process, through which the speech is structured. The corpus of this work is made up of the Portuguese idiomatic expressions ?abandonar o barco?, ?chutar o balde?, ?agarrar com unhas e dentes? and ?filho de peixe peixinho ??, which are distributed in 15 texts extracted from the internet by means of the Google search engine. The employed methodology has a qualitative nature, as it enables the accomplishment of an empirical analysis of data, without the worry about relying on quantitative information, and is underpinned by the Model of Constructional Analysis, which has a formalism of linguistic analysis specifically made to compose a simulation-based modeling of meaning construction. The information obtained in the analysis points out that idiomatic expressions not only associate conventionalized and schematic meanings, but also integrate elements such as actions, inferences and abstractions, thereby influencing the discursive organization and the processes of meaning construction of texts.

semi-heteronym Bernardo Soares - Fernando Pessoa. We use theoretical grounds from an
interface between Cognitive Linguistics and Textual Linguistics to observe how certain
linguistic mechanisms build a reality that tells us of a time, a being and his conceptions of
language and writing. We focus on description and explanation of procedures of
categorization and referentiation accomplished, for example, through metaphor and
metonymy. For the construction of the intended theoretical interface, we use analytical
categories proposed and developed by the Socio-cognitive Approach of Language,
Conceptual Metaphor Theory and Mental Space Theory. Armed with this theoretical
background, we observed the dynamics of language in relation to its social, cultural and
historical features, as well as the cognitive aspects that underlie it. We seek, therefore,
encourage discussions about the functioning of language considering primarily the creative
processes that allow us to organize and shape our experiences. We also try to provide an
approximation of Linguistics, Literature and Philosophy, with a view to relations between
language structure, cognitive activity and socio-cultural organization. From the results
obtained, we found that a literary text attests, with a particular property, the mutual relations
between language, cognition and culture, as indicates cognitive approach to language studies / Analisamos neste estudo os processos de constru??o de sentido no Livro do Desassossego do

realidade que nos fala de um tempo, de um ser e de sua concep??o de linguagem e escrita.
Centramo-nos na descri??o e an?lise dos processos de categoriza??o e referencia??o
licenciados, por exemplo, por met?foras e meton?mias. Para a constru??o da interface te?rica
pretendida, utilizamos categorias anal?ticas propostas e desenvolvidas no ?mbito da Teoria
Sociocognitiva da Linguagem, Teoria da Met?fora Conceptual e Teoria dos Espa?os Mentais.
Munidos com tal arcabou?o te?rico, evidenciamos a din?mica da l?ngua no que diz respeito

Previous issue date: 2012-09-06 / The object of this study is the construction of situation models in the discourse pattern comic book narrative, and sits in the field of Cognitive Linguistics. Its main foundations are the notions of embodied mind (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 1999), mental simulation (BARSALOU, 1999), discourse pattern (DUQUE; COSTA, 2012) and situation models (ZWAAN, 1999). I stem from the hypothesis that the process of meaning construction in narratives is attached to the simulation of space, of time and of the characters goals and actions within the story world, dimensions which make up the situation models elaborated by the reader. The simulation of these experiences during discourse processing originates from the fact of it having an embodied and cultural basis, i.e., upon being confronted with the clues found in the narrative, the cognitive structures that make up the reader s personal and social memories are triggered and make it possible to activate information which in turn refer to his/her physical and social experiences, built up in the environment in which he/she lives. As regards comic book narratives, the construction of situation models is closely related to the recurring activation of certain cognitive structures originating from graphic resources that are typical of that discourse pattern. These conclusions were drawn from the data analysis taken from the work Palestina (SACCO, 2003; 2004; 2011) / Este trabalho tem como objeto de estudo a constru??o dos modelos situacionais no padr?o discursivo narrativa em quadrinhos e insere-se no campo da Lingu?stica Cognitiva, tomando por base, principalmente, as no??es de mente corporificada (LAKOFF; JOHNSON, 1999), simula??o mental (BARSALOU, 1999), padr?o discursivo (DUQUE; COSTA, 2012) e modelos situacionais (ZWAAN, 1999). Parto da hip?tese de que o processo de constru??o de sentidos para as narrativas est? atrelado ? simula??o do espa?o, do tempo, dos objetivos e das a??es dos personagens do mundo da hist?ria, dimens?es essas que constituem os modelos situacionais elaborados pelo leitor. Previous issue date: 2012-11-30 / This paper investigates the cognitive processes that operate in understanding narratives in this
case, the novel Macuna?ma, by M?rio de Andrade. Our work belongs to the field of
Embodied-based Cognitive Linguistics and, due to its interdisciplinary nature, it dialogues
with theoretical and methodological frameworks of Psycholinguistics, Cognitive Psychology
and Neurosciences. Therefore, we adopt an exploratory research design, recall and cloze tests,
adapted, with postgraduation students, all native speakers of Brazilian Portuguese. The choice
of Macuna?ma as the novel and initial motivation for this proposal is due to the fact it is a
fantastic narrative, which consists of events, circumstances and characters that are clearly
distant types from what is experienced in everyday life. Thus, the novel provides adequate
data to investigate the configuration of meaning, within an understanding-based model. We,
therefore, seek, to answer questions that are still, generally, scarcely explored in the field of
Cognitive Linguistics, such as to what extent is the activation of mental models (schemas and
frames) related to the process of understanding narratives? How are we able to build sense
even when words or phrases are not part of our linguistic repertoire? Why do we get
emotionally involved when reading a text, even though it is fiction? To answer them, we
assume the theoretical stance that meaning is not in the text, it is constructed through
language, conceived as a result of the integration between the biological (which results in
creating abstract imagery schemes) and the sociocultural (resulting in creating frames)
apparatus. In this sense, perception, cognitive processing, reception and transmission of the
information described are directly related to how language comprehension occurs. We believe
that the results found in our study may contribute to the cognitive studies of language and to
the development of language learning and teaching methodologies / Este trabalho investiga os processos cognitivos que operam na compreens?o de narrativas, a
partir do romance Macuna?ma, de M?rio de Andrade. Insere-se no campo da Lingu?stica
Cognitiva de base Corporificada e, devido ? sua natureza interdisciplinar, dialoga com alguns
referenciais te?ricos e metodol?gicos da Psicolingu?stica, da Psicologia Cognitiva e das
Neuroci?ncias. Nesse sentido, adotamos a pesquisa do tipo explorat?ria, realizando testes do
tipo recall e cloze, adaptados, com estudantes de n?vel superior, todos falantes nativos. A
escolha do romance Macuna?ma como motiva??o inicial da proposta deu-se por se tratar de
uma narrativa fant?stica, cuja principal caracter?stica est? no fato de o romance apresentar
eventos, circunst?ncias e personagens que, de forma n?tida, se distanciam dos tipos
experienciados no cotidiano, o que constitui dados adequados a uma an?lise que pretende
investigar a configura??o do sentido, num modelo baseado-em-compreens?o. Buscamos,
assim, responder a quest?es que ainda s?o, de maneira geral, pouco exploradas no campo da
Lingu?stica Cognitiva, tais como: em que medida o acionamento de modelos mentais
(Esquemas e Frames) est? relacionado ao processo de compreens?o de narrativas? Como
constru?mos o sentido, mesmo diante de termos ou express?es que n?o integram o nosso
repert?rio lingu?stico? Por que nos envolvemos emocionalmente durante a leitura de um
determinado texto, mesmo sabendo que se trata de obra de fic??o? Para respond?-las,
partimos do pressuposto te?rico de que o significado n?o est? no texto, ele ? constru?do por
meio da linguagem, concebida como resultado da integra??o entre o aparato biol?gico (que
resulta na cria??o de Esquemas Imag?ticos abstratos) e sociocultural (resultando na cria??o de
frames). Nesse sentido, a percep??o, o processamento cognitivo, a recep??o e a retransmiss?o
das informa??es descritas est?o diretamente relacionadas ao modo como ocorre a
compreens?o da linguagem. Acreditamos que os resultados encontrados em nossa pesquisa
possam contribuir para os estudos cognitivos da linguagem e para o desenvolvimento de
