Regioninės interneto žiniasklaidos priemonių įtaka bendruomenės aktyvumui: Kauno atvejis / Impact of Regional Online Media on Local Community Activism: The Case of Kaunas

Baranovas, Andrius 12 June 2013 (has links)
Šių dienų žiniasklaidos raidai labiau nei bet kada anksčiau lemiamos įtakos turi technologiniai pasiekimai – naujienų perdavimas auditorijai tampa vis greitesnis ir prieinamesnis, todėl keičiasi ir pats naujienų turinys bei jo kokybė. Interneto plėtra ir skaitmenizacija žiniasklaidai kelia tam tikrų iššūkių – labai svarbu ne tik kuo objektyviau perteikti informaciją, tačiau tą būtina padaryti ir kaip įmanoma įdomiau bei kokybiškiau, panaudojant kuo įvairesnes raiškos formas: straipsnius, nuotraukas, vaizdo medžiagą. Pastebima, kad šiandien prie šiuolaikinės auditorijos (ypatingai jaunesnės kartos) poreikių greičiausiai prisitaikančių medijų galima laikyti interneto naujienų portalus. Šalia to, kaip pastebi įvairių šalių mokslininkai, naujienų gamyba tiek pasauliniu, tiek lokaliu mastu vienodėja, tampa paklūstanti besikeičiančioms sąlygoms bei naujiems auditorijų poreikiams. [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Technological diffusion and innovations are among the most important developments of contemporary reality that affect media businesses to a great extent. News production process is becoming faster and information is more accessible to audiences. It challenges media companies to react to changing conditions fast, to adapt to them, to deliver news as fast as possible and in various innovative formats, integrating text, visuals and audiovisuals. Studies done all over the world also show that communication and information technologies provide a better access to global information mostly produced by international news agencies. This way more and more international news appear in national media, the same information is spread all over the world making our news agendas more similar (homogeneous). However, other studies show that the proximity is still the most important news value factor for national and local audiences. Attractiveness and importance of local news is mainly determined by local cultural, social, political and other traditions and conditions. Local media, also in new interactive forms (as online news portals or social media channels) preserves its leading role in the cities and regions because it provides news that are substantial to local communities. The main aim of this study is to assess the impact and role of regional online media in Kaunas on the activism and engagement of local communities in public sphere. The basis of analysis is a qualitative focus... [to full text]

Erratic Mothers and Wild Animals: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Online Newspapers' Representations of Female and Male Opioid Users

Hedberg, Sofia January 2019 (has links)
This thesis critically investigates how female and male opioid users are represented in local newspapers in Ohio, one of the states which has been most severely affected by the ongoing ‘opioid crisis’ in the United States. Through an analysis of 20 articles from the The Plain Dealer and The Columbus Dispatch, the study aims to highlight how women and men who use opioids are portrayed, and what ideologies are hidden in the texts. Guided by Fairclough’s framework for critical discourse analysis and van Dijk’s sociocognitive approach, the analysis was performed on three levels: text-level, whereby journalists’ word choices, contextualisation and linguistic emphasis were studied; discursive level, which focused on processes involved in the production and consumption of the news pieces, and; sociocultural level, which entailed analysing historical and current developments of drug policy locally and nationally. The study finds that journalists downplay the seriousness of (white) male opioid use by calling men by their nicknames, by portraying them as ‘mischievous’ and by using jokey undertones when referring to their drug use. Female opioid use is constructed as abnormal by use of words such as ‘erratic’ and ‘unruly’ and women are discursively penalised for failing in their roles as caregivers to children. This thesis exemplifies how language use by local journalists’ in Ohio reinforces societal perceptions of male and female opioid users, which may influence counteractive measures by authorities.

Musiken & journalistiken : En kvalitativ intervjustudie med GSR-komplementom hur respondenter uppfattar en lokalnyhetssändning som modifierats med enradiojingel / Music & Journalism : A qualitative interview study with GSR-complement abouthow a local radio news cast is perceived with the use of jingles.

Svärd Huss, Dexter, Nilsson, Linnéa January 2023 (has links)
The aim of this study is to examine how a young audience perceives a local newschannel’s radio newscast which has been modified with a jingle. The study is of societaland scientific relevance as journalism should communicate truth and relevance in a waythat gives the audience the ability to independently form an opinion about social issues. The study shows how music is used and can be used in a news context and how itaffects the listener's attention and experience of news broadcasts. The essay’s jingle canbe described as a sound logo, a short melody that is used to draw attention to brands. The essay uses the word jingle synonymously with the word sound logo motivated bythe fact that the term jingle is more established among Swedish media consumers. Byinvestigating the issue on an individual level, the objective is to provide a result that cansupport decisions made during the production process within media companies. Makingthe news content more adapted to promote the attention of the listener can conceivablybenefit the individual listener, the media company that produces the news content andgroups in society that currently do not consume news via radio. The findings may alsoopen up further research on news broadcasting in radio. The reasons people avoid newslay the foundation for the subcategories and themes which answers the researchquestion. News avoidance theories contextualize the current media landscape and whatpeople prefer in their media consumption. The study is conducted with a two-partmethod. The results are mainly based on qualitative interviews done in a semistructured form. GSR-equipment has been used as a triangulation tool to increasecredibility and minimize the risk of faulty or distorted results. The GSR-measurementsshowed the physical reactions of the respondents and created possibilities forsupplementary questions based on these. The measurements only showed when a2respondent reacted and not why, therefore the qualitative interviews were still vital toanswer the research question. The results from the qualitative interviews show that alocal news broadcast modified with a news jingle is perceived as clear and partlycredible. But it is not perceived as entertaining. More specifically, the jingle's role forthe format of the broadcast is perceived as distinguishing news items by highlighting thestart and stop which contributes to clarity. The main reason why the news broadcast isperceived as credible is that it sounds similar to what the respondents have previousexperience with. The study cannot prove that the jingle has any function for theentertainment value.

民眾對有線電視及其地方新聞需求之研究 / The Research of Cable Subscriberships and Needs of Local News

藍宜楨, Lan, Yi Jen Unknown Date (has links)

Écrire le fait divers à la télévision : la rhétorique émotionnelle du drame personnel au journal télévisé de TF1 / Writing human interest stories on television : the emotional rhetoric of personal drama on TF1's television news

Mariau, Bérénice 09 December 2014 (has links)
This research analyses human interest stories on television news from a “pathemic” point of view, namely through the analysis of rhetorical figures aiming to move an audience. These figures are constructed around the absence of explicit images, which is a paradox for the television world. In order to analyze the emotional rhetoric constructed around this iconic absence, we have selected the most popular subcategory in the media, which we have called personal drama. The first part of this research analyzes the position of personal drama in relation to human interest stories and its emotional mainsprings. The second part of the research focuses on the contexts of production and presentation. The production context refers to the invisible part, that is to say, the technical and symbolic parameters which play a central role in the elaboration of the report. Whereas the presentation context acts as a framework which guides the audience in reading the report in a certain way. Considering the event being related and the means to do so, the ultimate aim of the research is to analyse the actual writing of the news story and its dramatization for TV. This morphological analysis questions the communicational and emotional stakes of a generic form of human interest stories on television news. Favouring the imagination and the appropriation of the text, the symbolic form of the drama - composed of allusive and mundane images - compensate for the singular nature of the facts being exposed.

An exploration of a community's expectations of a community newspaper : a case study of Fourways Review

Potter, Daniella Ann 02 1900 (has links)
This research explores to what extent the community newspaper, Fourways Review, which is distributed to a geographically demarcated area in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs, is fulfilling the community’s expectations; how community members use the newspaper and how Fourways Review’s community journalists define their roles. The research uses a qualitative approach to collect data through face-to-face, in-depth interviews with a sample of 30 community members and eight news team members; and one week of participant observation in the newsroom. Data is analysed through a constant comparative technique. The research finds Fourways Review is accepted in the community but is not as community-minded as a community newspaper should be, which affects how the community members use the publication. Community member respondents attribute the criticism to the influence of a market-driven approach to reporting. This is echoed by the news team respondents who say news production is influenced by community, advertising and inter-departmental pressures. / Communication Science / M.A. (Communication Studies)

Som vilken svensk som helst : En studie kring hur personer med utländsk bakgrund figurerar i bildsatta artiklar i två lokaltidningar / As any Swede : A study about how people with foreign background appear in local newspapers

Bjerlöw, Matilda, Strömqvist, Maria January 2010 (has links)
Sweden is a multi cultural country, where almost twenty percent of the population come from another cultural background. This study examines to what extent people with a foreign origin appear in two local, Swedish newspapers, Barometern and Östra Småland, and what role they are given. Do they appear as foreigners or immigrants or do they figure as any Swede, irrespective of their origin background? We have made a review by studying pictures of people with a foreign origin, based on name and appearance. During the time period, March 1st – April 30 th 2010, there were 2206 articles with pictures of people where 189 of them did show people with a foreign origin. Although, only 22 of these persons occurred in their role as foreigner or immigrant, the remaining majority occurred due to personal character or competence. Thus, the origin background did not matter in the context.
