Känner du igen dig? : Hur intervjupersoner tycker att de framställs i Barometerns porträttintervjuer samt hur deras förtroende för lokaljournalister ser ut / Do you recognize yourself? : How interviewed people are produced in Barometern’s portrait interviews and how their confidence is like for local journalists.

Vass, Monika, Olsson, Linnéa January 2010 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate how the interviewed people feel about being described in portrait interviews and how exactly it matches with their own image of the interview. The main issues were: Do they recognize themselves in the published article? If they don’t, what do they think it depends on? If they had the opportunity to read the article text before publishing, to what extent were they allowed to make changes to the text? Do the interviewees trust the local papers? This report involves a qualitative study on portrait interviews from the local newspaper Barometern. The articles were selected between June and November this year. The criteria for the selection of articles were that it was to deal with a single person and there be one photograph of this person in the article as well. The last criterion was that the text comprise at least 2000 characters. Personal interviews were undertaken with the people who had been portraited. In total 12 persons were interviewed. The study shows that interviewed people were overall pleased with the article and the way they had been presented. About half of the interviewed persons read the article before publishing and most of them were free to make changes to the text, though there were a few that weren´t allowed this opportunity. If there had been some things wrong in the articles most of them were about factual errors. Peoples’ trust in local journalists were greater than in journalists in larger cities, which was assumed, but most of the people had a certain scepticism when it came to trust in media in general.

"Den är som morgonkaffet, man måste ha det" : En fallstudie om varför Barometerns läsare konsumerar en lokal dagstidning / ”It’s like the morning coffee, you need it” : A case study of why the readers of Barometern consume a local newspaper.

Söderberg, Lina, Svensson, Rikard January 2013 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to understand and analyze why people read a local newspaper and which needs it can fulfill. The newspaper indistry is changing and so is the way we consume news. Today the readers are seen as an active group of people who choose the media, which fulfills their needs in the best possible way. This essay is based on a case study of the local newspaper Barometern. We used a qualitative research method and have done eight interviews. The people we interviewed where in the age of 30-40 and are subscribers or frequent readers of Barometern. The empirical material that where generated from the interviews made out the basis of our analysis. The conclusion of this case study is that people have six different needs of which they seek fulfilling. Of these six needs, Barometern satisfies five of them. For deeper analysis of how these needs are satisfied, continue reading chapter five. Since we worked with a qualitative method we don't intend to make any generalizations of our conclusions. The conclusions only apply to our study of Barometern.

Press på lokal demokrati : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys som undersöker huruvida hypoteserna i betänkandet av 1972 års pressutredning uppfylls när Östrans lokalredaktioner läggs ner i Emmaboda och Torsås.

Petersson, Linnéa January 2015 (has links)
This theisis aims to expand the understanding of how the termination of Östran local editorial staff is effecting the municipality politics and organisation orientated substance of the rivale newspaper Barometern when it becomes a monopoly news paper. I examine if the hypothesis in consideration of the press investigation of 1972 will occur through a quantitative analysis of selected articles in Barometern and Östran in 2010 and 2014. I examine if the information will be insufficient, if it will be a monopoly of opinion formation, if the investigative journalism will be suffering and if the group communication will be worse. With this analysis it becomes clear that the news paper Barometern cover less of the municipality politics and organisation orientated substance when it is a competive news paper.   My analysis shows us that the information will not be insufficient, it will not be a monopoly of opinion formation, the investigative journalism will not be suffering and the group communication will be worse when Östrans local editorial staff is terminated.

”Han offrades på grund av sitt rena samvete” : En kvalitativ diskursanalys om hur Abbas Rezai gestaltades i svensk nyhetsjournalistik. / “He was sacrificed because of his clean conscience” : A qualitative discourse analysis of how Abbas Rezai was potrayed in the Swedish news journalism.

Larsson, Malin, Almius Cederstav, Lina January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine how Abbas Rezai, the first male victim of honor- related violence that received media attention in Sweden, was portrayed in swedish news journalism. The questions examined were: How was Abbas Rezai and the perpetrators portrayed in swedish news journalism and how did the portrayal of the characters change over time. We made a critical discourse analysis with Faircloughs model as a base. We examined fourteen articles from a morning paper and a tabloid, during a period of six years. The result showed that Abbas Rezai was portrayed as a honest, considerate and innocent victim, which makes him relatable to the western world. But regardless of the good portrayal noted, however, that he is all this despite the fact that he is an "Afghan asylum seeker". Which makes the news reporting ambiguous, and leaves Abbas Rezai on the borderline between “us” and “them”. When it comes to the perpetrators they are portrayed as heartless, brutal and uneducated. Which by the reporting manifests itself in their cultural and religious background. During the six-years-period that we studied, we noticed that the reporting of one of the perpetrators changed remarkably. He goes from a coldblooded murderer to a victim of his own culture. Which has its explanation in the constant flow of new information. The biggest difference we found between the morning paper and the tabloid was how they selected their sources. The morning paper focused on confirmed fact from the police and the court, meanwhile the tabloid more often choose unconfirmed sources. Our study overall shows that news reporting are producing and re-creating stereotypes and preconceptions.

Torkan 2018: Nationell kris eller klimatdebatt? : En kvantitativ innehållsanalys av lokal- och rikstäckande rapportering gällande torkan sommaren 2018. / The drought of 2018: A national crisis or a climate debate? : A quantitative content analysis of local and national reporting on the summer drought of 2018.

Käll, Oskar, Röriksson, Gustav January 2019 (has links)
This essay’s purpose is to investigate how the swedish media portrayed the swedish summer drought of 2018. With a quantitative content analysis focusing on two newspapers, one regional and one national, this essay answers how the drought of 2018 was portrayed from a local and national perspective, from a framing and environmental theoretical perspective. But also to what extent the newspapers connected the drought and global climate change and what voices that were emphasized in the texts concerning the drought of 2018.   This study shows that the swedish drought 2018 was portrayed with “straight” news reporting in both regional and local newspapers. The articles did rarely contain any sort of conflict and the actors in the articles were dominated by authorities and businessmen. The head consequence of the drought in both of the newspapers was the environment. Although, it was rarely connected with climate changes. In 90 percent of the local press-articles the climate change was not mentioned. Those times when the drought was connected with climate change, in both newspapers, it was in debate articles, often written by a journalist.

Kvinnors och mäns synlighet : en kvantitativ studie av bilder i Barometern år 2010 och 2020 / Visibility of women and men : a quantitative study of images in the newspaper Barometer in 2010 and in 2020

Löwemo, Tomas January 2021 (has links)
The goal of this study has been to investigate what gender representation looks like in the pictures in Kalmar's largest newspaper, Barometern, and how men and women are portrayed in the pictures. The material used is all editorial images during week 9 in 2010 and during week 9 in 2020. I have conducted a quantitative content analysis of the images and analyzed them based on gender theory, stereotype theory and semiotics. The study shows that gender representation is uneven in Barometern's images and that women occur to a lesser extent than men. The study also shows that men and women are portrayed in different ways in the pictures and that women are portrayed as less important, more passive and less professional than men. Men also appear to a much greater extent on sports pages and in professional contexts. When the images from the two periods are compared, the results show that the total number of images and people has decreased by a third during the current ten years. But the total representation of men and women is much more even during week 9 in 2020 than in week 9 in 2010. On the other hand, men and women are still presented very differently and can be seen in different parts of the newspaper. Men are divided in much the same way in the newspaper and dominate the sports pages, while women are more common on the family pages as well as the culture and entertainment pages. Women have made some movements and are portrayed to a greater extent in the same way as men, but the changes are small. The study shows that Barometern has come a long way towards equal gender representation in its images, but that the development is slow and that Barometern still contributes to consolidating the prevailing gender power order.

Som vilken svensk som helst : En studie kring hur personer med utländsk bakgrund figurerar i bildsatta artiklar i två lokaltidningar / As any Swede : A study about how people with foreign background appear in local newspapers

Bjerlöw, Matilda, Strömqvist, Maria January 2010 (has links)
Sweden is a multi cultural country, where almost twenty percent of the population come from another cultural background. This study examines to what extent people with a foreign origin appear in two local, Swedish newspapers, Barometern and Östra Småland, and what role they are given. Do they appear as foreigners or immigrants or do they figure as any Swede, irrespective of their origin background? We have made a review by studying pictures of people with a foreign origin, based on name and appearance. During the time period, March 1st – April 30 th 2010, there were 2206 articles with pictures of people where 189 of them did show people with a foreign origin. Although, only 22 of these persons occurred in their role as foreigner or immigrant, the remaining majority occurred due to personal character or competence. Thus, the origin background did not matter in the context.

Med Facebook som partner : En studie av två medieföretags användning av Facebook, samt publikens respons. / With Facebook as a partner : A study of two mediacompanies`use of Facebook, and the audienc´s response

Lundmark Ernstsson, Karin January 2019 (has links)
This study has examined how two local media companies use Facebook in their operation. The two companies surveyed are P4 Kalmar Sweden Radio and the Barometer OT in Kalmar. Two sub-studies were conducted, a qualitative interview-study with responsible social media editors as well as a quantitative content analysis of Facebook publications over a month's time. The results show that Facebook is seen as a very important platform for the media companies to reach out with their journalism, while Facebook's algorithms affect the news rating and compels companies to constantly re-evaluate the content. The result also shows that traditional news with local connection constitutes the majority of Facebook publications and that it is this category that mainly renders the most response from the audience.

"Det han gjorde sedan har ingen någonsin upplevt" : En studie av framing inom lokal sportjournalistik

Troff, Benjamin, Öhrlin, Joakim January 2015 (has links)
This study aims to gain greater knowledge about the use of framing in local sports journalism. We did this by doing a qualitative content analysis of the local Swedish newspaper Barometern/OT and it’s coverage of the largest local football team, Kalmar FF. We randomly selected six of the team’s games during 2014 and analysed all the texts that had to do with the games, except for shorter texts and texts that are supposed to be based on personal opinions, such as chronicles. The results show that Barometern/OT have a tendency of defending individual players and giving them positive criticism, while they much more often give negative criticism to the team as a whole. Also, we found signs that Barometern/OT contributed to creating a local imagined community by having a incomplete use of names at a few times, amongst other factors. Because of these observations we noticed that the editorial staff both contributed to creating a local imagined community and that they were a part of it themselves.

Vem är syndabocken i den tragiska olyckan? : En kvalitativ studie om rapporteringen av bussolyckan i Sveg / Who is the scapegoat in the tragic accident? : A qualitative study about the news reporting of the bus accident in Sveg

Blomqvist, Linn, Lygnebrandt, Anna January 2017 (has links)
The aim of this study was to examine how three newspapers covered the question of guilt while reporting about the bus accident in Sveg where three school children died. The questions examined were: How does the local newspaper Borås Tidning and Barometern and the evening newspaper Aftonbladet report about the question of responsibility of the bus accident in Sveg? What are the differences and similarities between the three newspapers? We made a discourse analysis of 23 news articles from three different newspapers. The result shows that the newspapers reported about possible reasons that caused the disaster. If the society had taken responsibility and maintained the road then maybe the bus had not crashed. The passengers are described as guilty because of their lack of using seat belts. Simultaneously the bus driver is represented as irresponsible who could have prevented the misfortune by not driving so recklessly. Another aspect of the question of responsibility produce the bus company as the scapegoat of the tragical incident because of the miserable working conditions. We discovered that the newspapers are driven by figuring out the question of guilt in order to give answers to the readers about the tragedy in Sveg. Conclusions drawn from this study are that the media coverage are influenced by news values like their proximity to the persons involved.
