Objectives: To assess the athlete's performance progress under the leadership of two different coaches and to evaluate her development over a two - year training period of studies at Faculty of Physical Education and Sport in Prague. Methods: Methods used in the thesis are: observation, description and deduction. Results: Characteristic of long - jump athlete's training activity differed by age categories. The achievements are sorted in tables and graphs. Along with the analysis of the training taken and results achieved, there are comments about health added. The analysis is held in the two - year period under the leadership of two coaches. Selected training indicators as well as the results in several tests are presented in the tables. Is there a benefit of super spikes in long jump performance?

Background and aim The pace of development of distance running shoes has been fast-forward since 2016 when Nike introduced their model Nike Zoom Vaporfly, with an imbedded carbon fiber plate and an advanced newly developed Pebax®-foam. The shoe-development has continued to track events, with the introduction of carbon fiber plate in several shoe-models for running and sprint- events. The research area for track events has not reached the level as for distance running shoes, therefore the aim of this study was to examine the effects on long jump performance when using long jump spikes with (AFT) compared to without (non-AFT) a carbon fiber plate.  Method Nine experienced male (n=6, age 22 ± 4.8 years, body mass 76.4 ± 3.5 kg, height 182 ± 4.9 cm), and female (n=3, age 20.3 ± 3.5 years, body mass 64.8 ± 6.0 kg, height 172 ± 2.0 cm) Swedish long jumpers performed three maximal effort long jumps in AFT and non-AFT long jump shoes. Three-dimensional kinematic data was captured with eight markerless motion capture cameras, and the take-off was performed from a force plate. Run-up velocity was measured using a lidar laser and step characteristics using an optical contact grid. Pearson’s correlation coefficient was calculated for jump distance and maximal run-up velocity and paired samples t-tests and a Wilcoxon rank sum test were conducted to examine differences between the shoes.  Results Peak run-up velocity correlated with jump distance both for AFT (Pearson’s r=0.919, p<0.001) and non-AFT shoes (Pearson’s r=0.910, p<0.001). At a group-level no statistical differences were found between the shoes for the run-up variables. The AFT shoes showed significantly greater horizontal velocity at touchdown (p=0.046) and vertical velocity difference from touchdown to toe-off (p=0.029) compared to the non-AFT shoes. No other significant difference was found on group level for the take-off variables. Conclusion The results in this study did not show a longer jump distance in long jump specific AFT shoes compared to non-AFT on a group level, but individual differences were seen. To further understand the effect of AFT shoes on long jump performance, more studies on different individual characteristics and their relation to long jump performance is needed. Utvecklingen av skor har fortsatt från löparspåren till friidrottsbanan för flera grenar. Forskningsområdet för grenspecifika skor har inte kommit lika långt som för distanslöparskor, därför var syftet med denna studie att undersöka effekterna på längdhoppsprestation av att använda längdhoppsspecifika spikskor med (AFT) jämfört med utan (non-AFT) kolfiberplatta. Metod Nio erfarna manliga (n=6, ålder 22 ± 4,8 år, kroppsvikt 76,4 ± 3,5 kg, längd 182 ± 4,9 cm) och kvinnliga (n=3, ålder 20,3 ± 3,5 år, kroppsvikt 64,8 ± 6 kg, längd 172 ± 2 cm) svenska längdhoppare gjorde tre maximala längdhopp i AFT och non-AFT längdhoppsskor. Tredimensionell kinematisk data samlades in med åtta markörlösa motion capture-kameror och uthoppet skedde från en kraftplatta. Ansatshastigheten mättes med en laserkamera och steg-specifik data med ett optiskt kontaktnät. Pearson’s korrelations koefficient beräknades for hopplängd och maximal ansatshastighet samt så genomfördes paired samples t-test och Wilcoxon rank sum test för att undersäka skillnaderna mellan skorna. Resultat Maximal ansatshastighet korrelerade med maximal hopplängd både för AFT skor (Pearsons r=0,919, p<0,001) och non-AFT skor (Pearsons r=0,910, p<0,001). På gruppnivå hittades ingen statistisk skillnad mellan skorna vad gäller ansatslöpningens variabler. AFT skorna visade en signifikant högre horisontell hastighet vid första markkontakt med kraftplatta (p=0,046) och vertikal hastighetsdifferens från första markkontakt med kraftplatta till sista markkontakt med kraftplatta (p=0,029) jämfört med non-AFT-skor. Ingen annan signifikant skillnad hittades på gruppnivå vad gäller uthoppsvariabler. Slutsats Resultaten i denna studie visade inte på en längre hopplängd i längdhoppsspecifika AFT skor jämfört med icke-AFT skor på gruppnivå men skillnader sågs på individnivå. För att ytterligare förstå effekten av AFT skor på längdhoppsprestation behövs fler studier om olika individuella egenskaper och dess relation till längdhoppsprestation. Human Postures and Movements analysed through Constrained Optimization

<p>Constrained optimization is used to derive human postures and movements. In the first study a static 3D model with 30 muscle groups is used to analyse postures. The activation levels of these muscles are minimized in order to represent the individual's choice of posture. Subject specific data in terms of anthropometry, strength and orthopedic aids serve as input. The aim is to study effects from orthopedic treatment and altered abilities of the subject. Initial validation shows qualitative agreement of posture strategies but further details about passive stiffness and anthropometry are needed, especially to predict pelvis orientation. In the second application, the athletic long jump, a problem formulation is developed to find optimal movements of a multibody system when subjected to contact. The model was based on rigid links, joint actuators and a wobbling mass. The contact to the ground was modelled as a spring-damper system with tuned properties. The movement in the degrees of freedom representing physical joints was described over contact time through two fifth-order polynomials, with a variable transition time, while the motion in the degrees of freedom of contact and wobbling mass was integrated forwards in time, as a consequence. Muscle activation variables were then optimized in order to maximize ballistic flight distance. The optimization determined contact time, end configuration, activation and interaction with the ground from an initial configuration. The results from optimization show a reasonable agreement with experimentally recorded jumps, but individual recordings and measurements are needed for more precise conclusions.</p><p> </p>

Sport specific talent identification determinants and development of sprinting and long jumping ability among 10-15 year old children from underprivileged communities / Ankebé Kruger

As early as 1994, and with transformation in mind, the African National Congress (ANC) identified the development of the previously disadvantaged communities in South Africa as a national priority. In so doing, sport, among others, was used in this strategy as a medium to improve and change the circumstances of people in disadvantaged communities. Sports development in disadvantaged communities is essential, if taken into consideration that without such further support of the sport talent of some of these children, the needs of these talented children cannot be met and their potential will remain undeveloped. Talent identification (TID), which is based on scientific principles and forms the first step in sports development, still is relatively new in South Africa. Historically, coaches used their own knowledge and experience of the characteristics, which should lead to success in sport as well as participation in competitions in order to do TID. To date, very little research has been done on talent identification and development in sprints and long-jump, especially pertaining to young boy and girl athletes, and in particular concerning athletes from disadvantaged communities. The first and second objectives of this study were to implement sport specific athletics development programmes aimed at improving sprinting and long-jump ability and to determine its effect on the abilities and skills of talented 10 to 15 year-old girls and boys with talent for sprints and long-jump. The third and fourth objectives of this study were to establish which kinanthropometric, physical and motor components will play such a role in 10 to 15 year-olds that it can predict performance ability in sprints and long-jump in girls and boys at this age. The "Australian Talent Search" protocol was used to identify general sport talent in the children (66 girls and 62 boys) who were identified for the study. The talented children (19 girls and 21 boys) from the initial group of were then subjected to a sport specific test battery for sprints and long-jump. The maturation level of the boys was determined by means of a maturity questionnaire, based on the 5 Tanner stages. By using the Statistica and SAS computer programmes, independent t-testing, covariance analyses, correlation coefficients, effect sizes, descriptive statistics as well as a stepwise multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data with regard to the above-mentioned objectives. A p-value smaller than or equal to 0.05 was accepted as significant. From the results of the study it is evident that the development programmes contributed to the improvement of physical and motor abilities and skills important for performance in both sprints and long-jump in girls (n=19) and boys (n=21) respectively. Among the girls, flexibility, explosive power, muscle endurance, reaction time, speed, speed endurance, acceleration and long-jump showed statistically significant improvement, while abdominal muscle strength and stride length showed no improvement. Secondly, it was established that the development programme contributed statistically significantly to an improvement in flexibility, muscle endurance, 0-40 metres speed and long-jump ability in boys. However, some components did not show improvement, among them explosive power, reaction time, speed endurance, acceleration and stride length. A stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the third and fourth objectives. It indicated that, in respect to the 100 metres sprint, 7 variables, namely long-jump, push-ups to the point of exhaustion, 7-level abdominal strength, 0-5 metres speed, ankle dorsiflexion, body length and age contributed 84.0% to the total variance in girls. As for long-jump, 7 variables, namely 0-100 metres speed, body length, 7-level abdominal strength, push-ups, ankle dorsiflexion, standing long-jump and body mass proved to be the most important contributors to performance in these items with a total contribution of 79% to the total variance. The fourth objective indicated that average anaerobic power output, acceleration and body mass contributed statistically significantly to performance in the 100 metres sprint in boys with a contribution of 86.5% to the total variance. Horizontal jump, age and acceleration contributed statistically significantly to long-jump performance with a contribution of 81 5% to the total variance. It is evident from this study that sport specific development programmes can successfully be implemented on girls and boys at ages 10-15 in order to improve sprinting and long-jump ability, regardless of poverty-stricken circumstances and poor infrastructure. O efeito do comando de transição do atleta-guia sobre o desempenho do salto em distância de atletas com deficiência visual / The effect of the athlete-guide\'s transition command on the long jump performance of visually impaired athletes

O presente estudo teve como objetivo investigar o desempenho do salto em distância de atletas com deficiência visual em razão do tipo de comando de transição, da localização do atleta-guia e da localização em que o saltador se encontrava no momento do comando de transição. Participaram do estudo oito atletas, homens e mulheres adultos, saltadores de nível internacional, com deficiência visual \"classe 11\", e seus respectivos atletas-guia. Os atletas executaram saltos considerando a interação de duas condições: (1) o atleta-guia se comunicava de quatro locais distintos (à frente, atrás, ao lado direito e do lado esquerdo da tábua de impulsão); (2) o atleta-guia fornecia comandos de transição da corrida para a impulsão via voz ou palma. A distância do salto foi considerada como principal variável dependente. Os resultados mostraram que: (1) os comandos por palma e voz, as localizações do atleta-guia (à frente, atrás, do lado direito e do lado esquerdo da tábua de impulsão), e a localização em que o saltador se encontrava no momento do comando de transição afetaram semelhantemente o desempenho do salto em distância de atletas com deficiência visual; (2) os comandos fornecidos quando o saltador encontrava-se mais distante da tábua de impulsão foram aqueles com ele estava em menor velocidade; (3) nos últimos cinco metros os atletas aumentaram a amplitude das passadas e a velocidade em comparação com os dez metros anteriores; (4) as preferências dos saltadores e atletas-guia pelo tipo de comando de transição e local de posicionamento tiveram os mesmos efeitos / The aim of this study was to investigate the long jump performance by athletes with the visual impairment based on the type of transition command, jumper location, and athlete-guide. Participants were 8 athletes, men and women, international level jumpers, class 11 visual impairment, and their respective athletes-guide. The athletes performed jumps considering the interaction of two conditions: (1) athlete-guide communicated from four distinct locations (front, back, right side and left side of the board); (2) athlete-guide provided commands for transitioning from the running to impulsion phase by voice or palms. The distance of the jump was considered as the main dependent variable. The results showed that: (1) palm and voice commands, locations of the guide-athlete (front, back, right side and left side of the board), and the location where the jumper was at the time of the transition command similarly affected the performance of distance jumping of visually impaired athletes; (2) commands provided when the jumper was further from the impulsion board were those with his/her was at a slower speed; (3) in the last five meters athletes increased the steps amplitude and running speed in comparison with the previous ten meters; (4) preferences of jumpers and athletes-guide by the type of transition command and positioning location had the same effects

Simulation of Human Movements through Optimization

Optimization has been used to simulate human neural control and resulting movement patterns. The short term aim was to develop the methodology required for solving the movement optimization problem often arising when modelling human movements. A long term aim is the contribution to increased knowledge about various human movements, wherein postures is one specific case. Simulation tools can give valuable information to improve orthopeadic treatments and technique for training and performance in sports. In one study a static 3D model with 30 muscle groups was used to analyse postures. The activation levels of these muscles are minimized in order to represent the individual’s choice of posture. Subject specific data in terms of anthropometry, strength and orthopedic aids serve as input. The specific aim of this part was to study effects from orthopedic treatment and altered abilities of the subject. Initial validation shows qualitative agreement of posture strategies but further details about passive stiffness and anthropometry are needed, especially to predict pelvis orientation. Four studies dealt with movement optimization. The main methodological advance was to introduce contact constraints to the movement optimization. A freetime multiple phase formulation was derived to be able to analyse movements where different constraints and degrees of freedom are present in subsequent phases of the movements. The athletic long jump, a two foot high jump, a backward somersault and rowing were used as applications with their different need of formulation. Maximum performance as well as least effort cost functions have been explored. Even though it has been a secondary aim in this work the results show reasonable agreement to expected movements in reality. Case specific subject properties and inclusion of muscle dynamics are required to draw conclusions about improvements in the sport activity, respectively. / <p>QC 20120910</p>

BAKGRUND: Ishockey är en stor idrott med över 80000 aktiva spelare i Sverige. SYFTE: Syftet med denna studie var att fastställa huruvida det finns korrelation mellan tester rekommenderade av Svenska Ishockeyförbundet och prestationsförmåga på is. Vidare skulle testresultaten ställas i relation till antropometriska värden. METOD: Studiepopulationen rekryterades från hockeylag i division I. Testerna 1RM knäböj, stående längdhopp samt sergants jump utfördes enligt Svenska Ishockeyförbundets rekommenderade förfarande. Prestationsförmåga på is mättes genom 17 m sprintlopp. Korrelationen mellan testerna och prestation på is beräknades med pearsons korrelationskoeffecient. P&lt;0.05 betraktades som signifikant. RESULTAT: Totalt rekryterades 34 ishockeyspelare från division 1 (100 % män, medel ± SD: ålder 22,7 ±2.24 år; vikt 85,3 ±6,4 kg; längd 182 ±6 cm). Av utförda tester var det endast 1RM knäböj/kroppsvikt-ratiot som med statistisk signifikans visades korrelera med prestationsförmågan på is (r=0,389, p=0,049). Övriga tester uppvisade ingen statistisk signifikans. SLUTSATS: Studiens resultat pekar mot att det finns en svag statistiskt signifikant korrelation mellan 1RM knäböj/kroppsvikt-ratio och sprintförmåga på is. Knäböj/kroppsvikt-ratiot svarar dock endast för en liten del av prestationsförmågan på is, varvid knäböjens starka position som grundövning utanför isen bör ifrågasättas. / BACKGROUND: Ice hockey is a large sport with over 80000 active players in Sweden. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine whether there are correlations between tests recommended by the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation and on-ice performance. The results were also to be examined in relation to antropometric values. METHOD: The studypopulation was recruited from Swedish tier-III teams. The 1RM squat, standing long jump sand sergants jump were performed as described by the Swedish Ice Hockey Federations guidelines. On-ice performance was measured by a 17m sprint. The correlation between off- and on-ice tests were calculated using pearsons correlation coefficient. Statistical significance was set to P&lt;0.05. RESULTS: Thirtyfour male ice hockey players from Swedish tier-III were recruited for the study (100% men, mean ± SD: age 22,7 ±2.24 years; weight 85,3 ±6,4 kg; length 182 ±6 cm). Out of the performed tests only 1RM squat/bodywight-ratio showed a statistical significant correlation to on-ice performance (r=0,389, p=0,049). The other tests did not show statistical significance. CONCLUSION: The results points towards a weak statistical significant correlation between 1RM squat/bodywight-ratio and on-ice sprinting ability. The 1RM squat/bodyweight-ratio however explained a small portion of on-ice performance, hence the squats strong position as basic exercise off-ice should be questioned.
