This account deals with my degree in furniture design. The project was done in collaboration with the architect firm Byggnadskonst AB in a quest for the cafe chain "Vivels" Byggnadskonst AB’s mission was to make the interior of the cafe that Vivels is building in Larsberg Center on Lidingö. My assignment was to design chairs for the café. In the beginning I had even thought about designing a table, but as time past I focussed more and more on the chairs. My idea, or issue, was to make chairs for several different kinds of users. My goal was to make a chair for young people, a chair for the elderly and one chair for parents with children. The chairs would make sense of style and construction, but have different features that suited the different groups. I also wanted to learn more about the collaboration with architects, how an interior design project is done and what to consider in the design of the cafe chairs. I did a research phase of reflection, a questionnaire survey of coffee shop visitors and cafe staff, and was also looking for information about it. I listed the various functions that the different groups could need. When I started sketching I decided to first make a basic chair. A chair that I was pleased with and which I knew was feasible in terms of price and production. During the process I found several interesting issues that I worked with, like how to hang the chair on the table in a new way and if you can make use of vinyl floor from the swedish company Bolon or felt to span a seat over a frame. Gradually I changed my issue from beeing about designing different chairs for different users to be about to make a basic chair that could fit most people in form and aesthetics, I confined myself to design a chair with armrests, one chair without armrests and a bar stool. Sure, there were still the idea of different people, the armrests are a help for older people that will find it easier to get up - but also in order to be able to hang the chair on the table. In the end I just made one single chair, without armrests. I thougt a lot about armrests but not found a good solution to it. The barstool is available as renderings but is not as thought out as the chair - yet. This work continues, I still intend to finish an armchair and a bar stool as well, but outside of the thesis.

”Furu är fult” Det är en kommentar man ofta får höra när man nämner furu, många har åsikter om materialet vissa positiva men det flesta är rätt negativt inställda till furu. Vad är det då som gör att folk har dessa åsikter ? Är det materialet som sådant, det formspråk som oftast förknippas med furu, eller är det andra faktorer som spelar in? Kan man med hjälp av ett modernt formspråk påverka och få folk att se förbi materialet, få dom att uppskatta produkten och fastna för den trots att det är möbler gjorda i furu. / Magisterexamen 2007

Det föränderliga rummet är ett scenografiskt projekt på kandidatnivå vid institutionen för inredningsarkitektur och möbeldesign på Konstfack våren 2008. Det är ett arbete som syftar till att inleda ett scenografiskt tänkande genom utforskandet av en metod för att berätta genom rum. I utforskandet av metoden har sex texter gestaltats i samma volym och dokumenterats genom animation. Resultatet är en film där varje scenografi får berätta sin historia och samtidigt bidrar till att beskriva en förändring i volymen de är gestaltade i. / Kandidatexamen 2008

This project is an introduction to studying the relationship between furniture and spaces from a phenomenological point of view. The purpose is to get a deeper understanding of this inter-action emphasizing character, expression and atmosphere. This is done through analyzing two concrete spaces and designing furniture for them and inspired by them. The designprocess is used in the project as a method with the aim to increase spatial comprehension. The two chosen rooms that are analyzed and designed for are the Church ofVårby Gård from 1975, by Swedish architect Harald Thafvelin. Together with the foyer of a former highschool on Kungholmen, Stockholm, from 1960 by famous architect Léonie Geisendorf. The church is analyzed using Peter Zumthor’s phenomenological theory on ”atmosphere” whereas the former highschool is analysed more intuitively. The project has an experimental character and is pervaded by the discrepancy between theory and practice. The result is three prototypes inspired by the rooms in terms of expression, atmosphere and function.

Hur kan man skapa något nytt som påminner om något gammalt på ett diskret vis? Kan man blanda stilar som är flera hundra år ifrån varandra och ändå skapa en harmoni? Denna uppsats handlar om hur gustavianska uttryck kan anpassas för att användas i moderna möbler för nutida hem. Uppsatsens fokus ligger i att redogöra för svenska gustavianska byråers karaktäristiska form och uttryck samt hur jag arbetat för att ta dessa till en modern möbel för nutida hem. För att detta ska göras på ett tydligt sätt kommer uppsatsen ge svar på vad som karaktäriserar både gustavianska och nutida byråer och liknande möbler, både i stiluttryck, form och design. Tanken är inte att skapa en kopia av en gustaviansk byrå utan att skapa en möbel för nutida svenska hem som är inspirerad av de gustavianska byråerna. För att detta ska kunna göras behöver man även en bild av vad som efterfrågas till våra hem idag.

Magisterexamen 2007

Projektet omfattas av ett parkprojekt med analyser och gestaltning av grönstrukturer i Nynäshamns stad. Inriktningen är utformning av allmänna utrymmen i det offentliga uterummet med fokus att öka tillgängligheten och tillgången av grönytor och parker. Projektet syftar i att skapa värdefulla platser för ökad trygghet och trivsel. Målsättningen är också att visualisera en vision om rum för upplevelser och aktiviteter. Rum i vilka allmänheten frivilligt vistas om den fysiska miljön är god. Stadsrummet utgör en stor del av stadens identitet. Ambitionen med projektet är därför att med hjälp av formgivning och arkitektur skapa en enhetlig identitet som återspeglas i stadens offentliga rum. / The core concept in the project includes a proposal for urban public open space and green structure planning for the city of Nynäshamn. The work is concentrated to give form to the outdoor public space in order to increase the accessibility and availability of green areas and parks. The proposal aims to create valuable places focused on safety and comfort. But also to give form to public rooms for experences which the citizens voluntary seeks and participates if the physical environment is good. The identity of a city constitutes a great deal by its urban environment. Therefor design and architecture helps creating a uniform identity which can be reflected in the urban public spaces of the city. / Magisterexamen 2007

Min ambition i detta examensprojekt är att på ett för mig kreativt och lekfullt sätt utifrån mina barndomsminnen, gamla och nya leksaker, och samt genom insamling av enkla grundläggande fakta kring barns lärandeprocess, leka fram och formge ett koncept av möbler som kan användas som verktyg i barnens lärandeprocess. Ett gestaltningsprojekt, där jag tillverkar 2 protoyper, en stol och ett bord. Rapporten redovisar min formgivningsprocess och resultat.
