This study aims to verify the construction of meaning that emerges from the interactions with the proposal of text production mediated by semiotic resources with the use of mobile digital technologies. The investigation took place in Language and Literature III subject, with 02 hour/class per week, in Computer Science and Mechatronics certificate programs integrated to High School in a Federal Institute of Education. To achieve the main objective, a curriculum was developed in order to integrate collaborative actions using mobile digital technologies with semiotic resources as well as to investigate how students demonstrated classical literary writing comprehension through a semiotic resource, and also to relate the semiotic expression presented with the reading that they made of the classic work already read. The theoretical framework of this research and the proposed curriculum is based on theoretical review of M-Learning practices (TRAXLER, 2009; SACCOL, 2010), on collaboration as an inherent characteristic to the human being (TOMASELLO, 1999, 2010; PINKER,2007), in the ecological perspective (VAN LIER 2000, 2002a, 2004b, 2007, 2014; BAKTHIN, 1981; PEIRCE, 1977) for the construction of the curriculum entitled ECLL (Ecological Curriculum of Language and Literature) focused on autonomy, authenticity and awareness. The research methodology consisted in applying the curriculum proposal and collecting data obtained in private groups on Facebook where the participants should interact weekly on the works of art. Data were qualitatively analyzed according to curriculum characteristics and language on an ecological perspective. The results indicate that it is possible to integrate the collaborative learning practices with the use of mobile technologies through the developed curriculum. We also identify meaning construction of the performed readings on the semiotic resources brought in the students' posts. Besides, in their interactions we analyzed that the meaning of the classic readings was based on the association of what they read with their background and experiences. Ease of access to mobile devices and the need to invest in media literacy practices were important factors for implementation of the proposed curriculum. However, we identify that the ECLL needs to be qualified through investigations that experience new practices in other contexts and, although the evaluation practices are evidenced in data, we think that new proposals might clearly present them in one of the stages.

Effect of Internet Environment and Information Literacy on Teaching Will with Wireless Network: An Example of Humanities and Art Education of Junior-High Schools in Kaohsiung CityChen, Mei-yeh 01 February 2009 (has links)
The time for WIMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is coming. Wireless network, a major trend of urban development nowadays, has become a part of modern life. In addition, all the countries have put emphasis on the application of information technology in the field of education. Thus, Ministry of Education in Taiwan actively promotes how to integrate information technology into teaching. In order to combine policies with the development of technology industry, building a wireless teaching environment in junior high schools is now a benchmark of becoming a clever mobile city for Kaohsiung City.
As the prosperity of wireless network technology, mobile learning is now the main stream of the ubiquitous society; that is, utilizing modern technology into teaching has become a trend. This research takes the teachers major in humanities and art and the executive directors in the junior high schools in Kaohsiung City as an object of study, probing into the completion of building wireless teaching environments in these schools, the application of wireless network for teaching in the field of humanities and art, and the information literacy in connection with the will to utilize such technology of these teachers.
This research bases on Davis¡¦s Technology Acceptance Model, probing into the usefulness, the ease of use and the will to use of teaching with the wireless network with the construction of the wireless environment in the campus and the information literacy of the teachers by the questionnaires. It adopts SPSS15.0 for Windows as well as Amos 7.0 systems to analyze the data and Structural Equation Modeling to proceed to the causal path analysis of the research structure, testing the causal relationship of each variable in this research. At the same time, it uses the data from the questionnaires and the interviews to mutually confirm the conclusion.
According to this research, there are five conclusions:
1¡BGender, the seniority of teaching, the function of office and the scale of the school will affect the usefulness, the ease of use, the will to use and the information literacy of teaching with the wireless network.
2¡BSo far the construction of wireless environment of the junior high schools in Kaohsiung city is still not perfect; specifically, only few schools can expand wireless access points by themselves while other schools still maintain 5 access points offered by the Education Bureau. Thus, the access points are installed only in the conference rooms or the special-function classrooms; they are insufficient for the normal classrooms.
3¡BThe teachers in the field of humanities and art generally use internet resources to teach, but many of them can not directly teach on the internet owing to the insufficiency of wireless environment.
4¡BThe information literacy of the teachers has a notably positive effect on the usefulness, the ease of use and the will to use of teaching with the wireless network.
5¡BThe effectiveness of how WIMAX influence the completion of building wireless teaching environment in junior high schools is not so obvious.

AUGMENTED REALITY FOR LOCATION-BASED ADAPTIVE MOBILE LEARNINGChang, William 21 January 2013 (has links)
Augmented Reality (AR) has become a popular interactive technique in the last few years. One of the critical challenges is to identify the real-life objects. Further, how to fully exert the advantages of the AR technique under the limited resources available on the mobile devices is another critical challenge. To resolve the above issue, firstly this thesis reviewed the real-life object tagging and identification techniques. Secondly this thesis studied the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) Interface and the environmental sensors on the mobile phones. Lastly this thesis implemented a Multiple Real-life Object Identification Algorithm along with the development of the Multi Object Identification Augmented Reality (MOIAR) application. Subsequently, the MOIAR application has been implemented in the location-based mobile learning environment, where the Legislative Assembly of Alberta is included as an example real-life learning object. This MOIAR implementation has applied the tagging and identification technique review as well as the HCI and sensors study, to prove the usability and practicability of the MOIAR application. / 2012-01

The technological evolution has been making the Distance Education accessible for a
greater number of citizens anytime and anywhere. The potential increase of the
supply for mobile devices integrated to mobile learning environments allows that the
information comes out of the physical environment, creating opportunities for
students and teachers to create geographically distributed learning scenarios.
However, many applications developed for these environments remain isolated from
each other and do not become integrated sufficiently into the virtual learning
environments (AVA). This dissertation presents an interoperability model between
mobile devices and distinct AVA based on webservices. For the conception of this
model, requirements engineering and software architecture techniques were used.
With the goal of showing the model viability, a mobile application focused on
surveys has been developed, and additionally, the main functionalities related to the
interoperability were tested

The research on natural interaction has been growing significantly since, with the
spread of personal computers, there is an increasing demand for interfaces that
maximize productivity. Among these we can highlight the interfaces Virtual Reality
and Augmented Reality (KIRNER, TORI e SISCOUTO, 2006), where users can
perform simple tasks such as choosing a 3D object translation, rotation and scaling in
3D object.
These tasks are usually performed through devices such as the keyboard and
mouse, and can, thus, a loss of immersion happen by the user in the virtual
environment. Thus, investigating methodologies for natural interaction in these
environments, can help increase user immersion in the virtual environment.
Another issue that have been the focus of many researches are Collaborative Virtual
Environments (KIRNER e TORI, 2004), where it is possible for users to communicate
and share information. These users can be physically close or not. The main focus of
this work is precisely the communication among remotely dispersed users.
Thus, it is intended with this work, proposing a system where it is possible to
manipulate 3D objects using natural gestures and share data remotely dispersed
users.
Dentre essas interfaces podemos
destacar a Realidade Virtual e a Realidade Aumentada (KIRNER, TORI e
usuário no ambiente virtual. Sendo assim, investigar metodologias para interação
natural nesses ambientes, pode ajudar a aumentar a imersão do usuário, no
ambiente virtual.

A Study of Learning Outcomes of a Mobile Travel Application in Tourism Geographic CourseChou, Chen-Hsiung 05 1900 (has links)
Mobile technologies have been adopted into education more and more. New hardware, such as smart phones and tablets, has increased the popularity of mobile technology. There are also many applications created for the fields of education and tourism. This research chose a travel application from Taiwan to apply into a tourism geographic course at the Taiwan Hospitality and Tourism College (THTC). A quasi-experiment design was applied to this study. Two classes/groups participated in the study. One class was the treatment group which used the travel app through teaching scenarios. The other group was the contrast group which used a lecture format with handouts. Both groups were given a pre-test to determine knowledge of Danongdafu Forest Park (DFP), and Taiwan tourism geography. A post-test was administered after eight weeks of teaching activities. Post intervention scores were compared to pre-intervention scores between the two groups. The results of ANOVA showed that there was no statistically significant learning difference between the treatment group and the contrast group. A paired-sample t-test analysis revealed that after eight weeks of teaching DFP content, both groups gained significantly in knowledge. Furthermore, the learning attitudes and interviews of the treatment group students indicated positive responses utilizing m-learning in teaching scenarios. Students indicated a desire to receive m-learning opportunities for future courses.

The Use of Mobile Assisted Language Learning for Vocabulary Acquisition in the English Classroom / Användningen av MALL för att utvidga ordförrådet i det Engelska KlassrummenHolmberg Svensson, Line, Sinclaire, Emma January 2022 (has links)
The increased need for digital education in upper secondary schools of Sweden during the COVID-19 outbreak showcased that there is a lack of professional knowledge in regards to what tools to use in order to vary the experience for the students in a virtual teaching environment. In this paper, we investigate whether Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL) could assist English vocabulary acquisition of Swedish upper secondary students and what their attitudes are towards it. By finding and synthesizing studies that have been published on MALL in regards to vocabulary acquisition, we hoped to gauge the possible outcomes of applying it in Swedish classrooms as well. The majority of the analyzed studies showed positive results on both vocabulary acquisition and the students' attitudes. However, the methods of the experiments and the attitude questionnaires, along with the innate cultural differences, made us question whether we would see the same results in Swedish schools, but when considering the curriculum, the empirical evidence and learning theories, we still found enough relevancy and validity in the method to claim that MALL could work to assist vocabulary acquisition in the English classroom of Swedish upper secondary school.
