Zietlow, Martin 21 July 2015 (has links) (PDF)

Zyriax, Rona 05 May 2014 (has links) (PDF)

With a moderate positivist approach, two questionnaires (EOQ and MLQ) were applied to 125 leaders in 27 organizations in Brazil. Based on the data collected, an exploratory correlation analysis was performed to assess the relation among error orientation factors and the factors that measure the leadership style, according to one of the models from the Transformational School of Leadership. Multiple regressions were also performed to ascertain how the leadership factors could predict the error orientation factors. The exploratory research produced in this study revealed important relationships among the factors composing the two constructs: for example, Individual Consideration is significant to stimulate Learning from Errors, a finding that can be easily applied on different organizations and independently from groups. The fear caused by error grows with a Management by Exception (passive) and decreases if the leader shares the goals and the long term vision. Error Anticipation also shows differences between factors of Transformational Leadership and Laissez-Faire style. While challenging ideas, values and beliefs by the leader increases Error Anticipation, Management by Exception (passive) reduces it. Thinking about Errors also presented inverted correlation to Transactional Leadership and Laissez-Faire. Time as manager and time in the position also appeared as significant for Error Strain, Error Anticipation and Thinking about Errors, all of them factors of the Error Orientation Questionnaire (EOQ). The study results can be very useful, with applications for organizations and individuals, and they can be used in selection processes, training programs, as well as in evaluating the suitability of a given leadership style for the organization environment. The conclusion of the study provides arguments on why it is essential that ERROR becomes an integral part of the organizations agenda, and that leaders assume it in their daily routine.

An Examination of Ethical Leadership and Organizational Commitment

Sutherland, Mitchell A. 16 February 2010 (has links)
The primary purpose of this research study was to explore the relationship between ethical leadership (Brown, Trevino, & Harrison, 2005) and the three forms of organizational commitment (Meyer & Allen, 1997). Secondarily, this research explored the relationship between ethical leadership (Brown et al., 2005) and the four dimensions of transformational leadership (Bass & Avolio, 1994). This study extends recent research regarding ethics, leadership styles, and employee commitment by administering the Ethical Leadership Scale (ELS), the Three-Component Model (TCM) of Commitment (Meyer & Allen, 1997), and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-5X). The data was collected from a cross-section of 130 business professionals representing a variety of industries, occupation characteristics, and levels of organizational and supervisory responsibility, age, education, and job tenure. The hypotheses developed in this study found positive and statistically significant relationships between ethical leadership and two forms of organizational commitment; affective commitment (r = .55, p < .01) and normative commitment (r = .45, p < .01). The study also found highly positive and statistically significant relationships between ethical leadership and the idealized influence (r = .75, p < .01) and inspirational motivation (r = .70, p < .01) dimensions of transformational leadership.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SUBORDINATE'S PERCEPTION OF THE LEADERSHIP STYLE OF IT MANAGERS AND THE SUBORDINATE'S PERCEPTIONS OF MANAGER'S ABILITY TO INSPIRE EXTRA EFFORT, TO BE EFFECTIVE, AND TO ENHANCE SATISFACTION WITH MANAGEMENT.

Bennett, Thomas M. 03 April 2009 (has links)
The current study examined the Transformational, Transactional, and Passive/Avoidant Leadership styles as defined by Burns (1978) and Bass (1985) and how they are perceived by subordinates in predicting subordinate Extra Effort, manager Effectiveness, and Satisfaction with management. One hundred fifty IT professionals from AITP, Association of Information Technology Professionals, were administered the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire 5X-Short form (MLQ 5X-Short). The survey measured all nine full range leadership variables and results were analyzed using multiple regression. Three hypotheses examined the relationship between the subordinate's perception of the leadership style of IT managers and one of three dependent measures: predicting subordinate Extra Effort, manager Effectiveness, and Satisfaction with management. Partial support was found for all three hypotheses. In the first, Transformational Leadership and Passive/Avoidant Leadership, but not Transactional Leadership was able to predict Extra Effort. In the second, Transformational Leadership, Transactional Leadership (via a slightly modified "reversed" form as well as the two subscales individually), and Passive/Avoidant Leadership were able to predict management Effectiveness. In the last, Transformational Leadership, Transactional Leadership (reversed and subscales), were able to predict subordinates' Satisfaction with their leaders. Most findings were consistent with existing literature. In addition, this study also identified several areas of further study.

Hein, Sara 27 August 2019 (has links)

de Verdier, Katarina, Rehnfeldt, Peter January 2023 (has links)

The Full Range Advising Experience: an Assessment of College Academic Advisors’ Self-perceived Leadership Styles

Davis Jones, Chrissy L. 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this quantitative, descriptive study was to identify the self-perceived leadership styles of college academic advisors and to explore the variance in the perceived leadership styles based on demographic information such as academic advising approaches, institutional type, age, years of experience, and gender. Participants were 225 college advisors from among 5,066 members of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) during the 2013-2014 academic year who met study criteria and whose email invitation to complete an online survey was presumably delivered, rendering a 4.44% response rate. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire Version 5X (MLQ 5X) with five supplemental questions was used for data collection The composite score for leadership style served as the dependent variable, and advising approach, institutional type, age, years of experience, and gender served as the independent variables for the study. Descriptive statistics, frequency distribution, and a factorial analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used for data analysis. The descriptive statistics for this study revealed that college academic advisors represent all points along the entire spectrum of the Full Range Model of Leadership continuum employing different leadership behaviors based on the situation. The descriptive data were supported by the frequency distributions per case which identified transformational leadership as the perceived dominant leadership style for the college academic advisors in this study. A priori to conducting the factorial ANOVA, Leneve’s test for homogeneity of variance indicated a statistically significant coefficient, thus violating the assumption of data normality and rendering the ANOVA findings uninterpretable. An implication of this study is that transformational leadership is the most desired leadership style of the Full Range Model of Leadership for college academic advisors. If this is true, professional development activities for college academic advisors should focus on strengthening transformational leadership behaviors/techniques including with whom and when this leadership style should be employed compared to the other Full Range Model of Leadership styles
