Experimental Investigation of CaSO4 Fouling Mechanism on Nanofiltration Membranes Under Microfluidic Configurations

Hsu, Chih-peng 18 August 2006 (has links)
This study develops and demonstrates a microfluidic module for investigating the mechanism of inorganic fouling caused by the precipitation of calcium sulfate (CaSO4) on nanofiltration membranes. The developed microfluidic module enables sensitive system responses, rapid detection and real time observation of inorganic fouling commonly encountered in water treatment industries. For this development, CaSO4 is selected as the model salt due to its unique fouling characteristics. The effect of the operating conditions, such as pressure and permeate flux, was on the fouling behavior is investigated. A plate-frame type microfluidic chip was fabricated and employed in a dead-end filtration mode for constant-flux fouling experiments. The nanofiltration chip module has a dimension of 50 mm ¡Ñ 25 mm ¡Ñ 12 mm. It is consisted of a polymeric nanofilter, a pressure acquisition unit, a C.C.D., and micro electrodes on the nanofilter for investigating the relationships among trans-membrane pressure, conductivity on membrane surface and permeate fluxes. With the microfluidic system, real-time concentration polarization, bulk nucleation of CaSO4 and surface crystal accumulation were observed in terms of the variations of pressure and conductivity on membrane surface, which were verified with scanning electron micrographs to confirm the corresponding fouling stage. It is found that membrane surface conductivity increases with trans-membrane pressure before bulk crystallization of CaSO4, then slightly decreases after the formation of bulk nuclei due to the removal of solute in the aqueous phase. The conductivity remains relatively constant during cake formation stage while trans-membrane pressure steadily increases. This study successfully integrates microfluidic technology with pressure and electrical measurements for detecting the dynamic transition during CaSO4 fouling, and reports for the first time the experimental measurement of the initiation of inorganic cake formation.

The Research of Rapid Logistics Strategy througth Mobility Implementation - An Example of Steel Company's Shipping System

Yang, Chao-chun 29 June 2007 (has links)
Thanks for the wide application of mobile technology and the incre- asing popularization of wireless networking, a brand new business oper- ation model, which breaks out the limitation of fixed working time and space and brings more real-time and activity to life and work, is therefore brought to enterprises, and has eventually brought up the booming deve- lopment of M-commerce (Mobile Commerce). With the attribute of regard- lessness of location, and the high flexibility and mobility, people can expect that more and more diversified mobile technology applications will be available and popularized in the coming future. However, if corporations only take suggestions from mobile technology providers or consultants, but understood neither what their corporations really need, nor ignored what their users most concerns, expenditure of time and money can be resulted, and no effect can be expected. Therefore, the QFD (Quality Function Deployment) method, with its MRM (Matrix Re- lation Map) tool, is introduced as a valid methodology to help identify users¡¦ requirements, and to sketch the relationships between each step of implementation. This research also adopts ¡§qualitative single case study with multiple units of analysis¡¨ as the basic approach, and the subject of this research is a steel manufacturer. By using QFD to clarify the voice from users of their needs, entprises can realize what the users really want. And by using the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) skill to syste- matically transfer customers¡¦ requirements into design considerations, corporations can check if their capabilities can meet those voice from users, and then make practical plans that the entprises should do while implementing mobile environment. Finally, this research had, from the view of end-users, evaluated and consequently proposed a set of functions module and priority, as well as practice suggestions, for implementing mobile environment; The outcome of this research can be used as a basic for advanced study, and be adopted by corporations and industries in all areas.

A Low-Power and High-Performance Function Generator for Multiplier-Based Arithmetic Operations

Jan, Jeng-Shiun 23 June 2002 (has links)
In this thesis, we develop an automatic hardware synthesizer for multiplier-based arithmetic functions such as parallel multipliers/multiplier-accumulator/inner-product calculator. The synthesizer is divided into two major phases. In the first phase called pre-layout netlist generation, the synthesizer generates the gate-level verilog codes and the corresponding test fixture file for pre-layout simulation. The second phase, called layout-generation, is to produce the CIF file of final physical layout based on the gate-level netlist generated in the first phase. The thesis focuses on the first phase. The irregular connection of the Wallace tree in the parallel multiplier is optimized in order to reduce the overall delay and power. In addition to the conventional 3:2 couter that is usually included in standard cell library, our synthesizer can select other different compression elements that are full-custom designed using pass-transistor logic. We also propose several methods to partition the final addition part of the parallel multiplier into several regions in order to further reduce the critical path delay and the area cost. Thus, our multiplier generator combines the advantages of three basic design approaches: high-level synthesis, cell-based design and full-custom design along with area and power optimization.

Internet-Based Remote Visual Monitoring Systems

Chung, Wen-Feng 08 July 2002 (has links)
Abstract According to the development of industry, conventional surveillance system has not already satisfied by the demand today. The combination application of the CCD camera and image analysis technology in personal computer could enhance the functionality and more and more get a lot of attraction on it. Therefore, CCD camera is gradually popular in people live and industry application. However, CCD camera depends on the process ability of personal computer very much. Furthermore, it can¡¦t work well independently on the application. Based on these problems, this paper proposes an effective monitoring technique to establish an image servo module through using the embedding Ethernet controller with CMOS image sensor. The ¡§image servo module¡¨ can execute independently the designate image monitor work. Eventually, an ¡§Internet-based remote visual monitoring system¡¨ was built by integrating ¡§image servo module¡¨ and ¡§database service system¡¨ to widely promote the application on surveillance system. From the experiment system, user can use the IE explore or Netscape to supervise the internet-based image monitor system from web-server. In addition, a real-time monitor system based on VB program tool was also developed for any computer to monitor or setup the remote image server module to achieve the designated work. The transfer speed of Internet image server system is 7~8 frames/s. Keywords¡Gimage servo module, Internet-based remote visual monitoring systems

Package Implementation : A Methodology For Requirement Gap Analysis

Hsu, Cheng-Yi 24 June 2003 (has links)
The global business is facing the intensive competitive environment. To overcome the competition, most enterprises contentiously try different information systems to strengthen their competition and to extent their businesses. In order to execute the enterprises marketing strategies effectively, business organization applies various software from in-house development to standard package software either made in Taiwan or made in nations. However, while implementing the information system into specific project, this software caused many obstructions in both project time framing design and project cost control. To exam this problem, we found there is no appropriate requirement and package software or tool to manage the system gaps analysis. The main purpose of this thesis is to solve the present package software problem and develop a method to meet the enterprise needs in system difference analysis. We use the Unified Module Language (UML), use case diagram, drawing , activity diagram, use case description and decision table to complete the difference analysis between package software and specific project. Applying this method, the user not only can control the difference between the requirement system and object system precisely, but also build a communication channel among the users, system analysis, and programmers. In addition, the method provides a trend of customized system to succeed the project on line

Development and initial assessment of Texas Cooperative Extension's white-tailed dear management module

Bedgood, Mark Andrew 17 February 2005 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the development and initial use of Texas Cooperative Extension’s (TCE) White-tailed Deer Management Module (WDMM) delivered over the Internet. The results of this study will provide suggestions about future online wildlife management modules. Data were collected from two populations using questionnaires. A sample of six county Extension agents (CEA’s) and four Extension specialists were selected by an Extension wildlife specialist who perceived them to be professionals in the fields of wildlife and range management. This first sample is also referred to as change agents. The second sample, also known as early users, consisted of 27 anonymous CEA’s and landowners within TCE’s District 10. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect and analyze data. The results are as follows: Thus, the development of WDMM was the responsibility of the Extension specialist and researcher. The Extension specialist and researcher did seek professional opinions on content and layout information. Results suggested that CEA’s and Extension specialists agreed the WDMM would be a beneficial educational tool for new landowners. Overall, WDMM was perceived to be user friendly, visually appealing, and provided useful content. Although most change agents responded positively to most questions, there were a few that would like to see more educationally challenging questions. For example, there were a few questions that respondents felt were of the “elementary” and “kindergarten” level. They would like more questions concerning management. The majority of early users were in support of WDMM. Data gathered from the WDMM Feedback Questionnaire agreed with data gathered from change agents. In general, most early users said that they were pleased with the WDMM. Recommendations were made based on these findings to expand the WDMM. Some of these include: 1) Expanding WDMM; 2) Replicating this study using random sampling; 3) Collecting computer knowledge and skills and demographics on future studies; 4) Developing similar modules to see if they gain the same positive response.

An ultra-wideband transmit/receive module using 10 to 35 GHz six-channel microstrip multiplexers and its applications to phased-array antenna transceiver systems

Hong, Seung Pyo 30 October 2006 (has links)
This dissertation introduces new and simple techniques for suppression of multispurious passbands, which are inherent to the conventional microstrip parallel coupleline bandpass filters. In addition, the operation of harmonic suppression is analyzed using a simple model. Special emphasis is placed on the applications of several new filter designs for microstrip diplexers and multiplexers. Compact, full-duplex beam scanning antenna transceiver systems with extremely broad bandwidth have also been developed. Recent advances in broadband monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) amplifiers make the realization of extremely broadband phased-array transceiver systems possible. The ultra-wideband phased-array transceiver systems can be used in multi-band mobile satellite communication systems and wideband radars. This dissertation presents a multi-band, compact, full-duplex, beam scanning antenna transceiver system for satellite communications and two designs of ultra-wideband, low-cost radar systems as applications of the MMIC amplifiers. In addition, a multi-frequency antenna has been developed. A single-feed triple frequency microstrip patch antenna is presented as an answer to the recent demand for multi-function systems in the wireless communications. In summary, the research presented in this dissertation covers every component required to build an ultra-wideband, full-duplex beam scanning phased-array antenna transceiver. The work done in this dissertation should have many applications in the wireless communication systems and wideband radar technologies.

Simulation of mico-lens array for LED lighting

Lin, Ming-Cheng 30 January 2008 (has links)
Recently liquid-crystal display (LCD) has the highest output value and most popular usage of flat panel display in monitor. The advantage of LCD is low electric quantity consumption, light quantity and thin thickness. LCD has substituted for the traditional screen monitor. The back light module, color filter and actuation IC are three major cost structures in LCD. The optical film is the most used structure in back light module, which is used to increase brightness, luminate evenly the panel and prove illuminant efficiency. The liquid crystal does not irradiate, therefore, the back light module is accessory of liquid crystal display, especially the LCD has advanced the size over 60 inches dimensions. When the panel enhances its size, the cost of back light module correspondently increase, even achieve to 50%. The importance of back light module in LCD can be understood. This study is to develop an innovation of gapless compound polygonal micro-lens. The manufacturing process includes lithography, reflow, electroforming and hot embossing technologies. Also the TracePro software is applied to facilitate the design. LED is used as the illuminant without diaphragm simulation. It enables the optical film to achieve an optimum condition. Using the gap optical film, we need to apply 3~4 pieces in the back light module. When we use the gapless optical film to make film to increase largely the light efficiency, we expect to use 1~2 pieces in the back light module. In this case it can reduce the cost and promote the competition of the domestic manufacturer.

An Implementation of Distributed Generation Series Grid Interconnection Module

Wang, Yu-Shin 28 August 2008 (has links)
An implementation of a series interconnection scheme for small distributed generation systems is presented in this thesis. The concept uses one set of voltage source converter to control the injected voltage magnitude and phase angle for power injection and voltage sag mitigation. Because of the use of series interconnection scheme, the energy storage device outputs vary concurrently with the line loading and provides loading leveling functions. Under voltage sag situations, it provides missing voltage to effectively deal with power quality problems. The control algorithm uses the reference voltage tracking concept. A signal phase 484 VA prototype of the proposed system is implemented. The performance of the proposed method is simulated and verified by using Matlab-simulink package and the implemented module.
