Turismo Dávila is a land transport company authorized to provide tourist transport service and personnel nationwide for 5 years, in this framework its main users are workers in the mining sector. Given the constant and growing demand for these services, the company has increased its vehicle fleet and expanded its client base. The key to maintaining and allowing the growth of the business is to provide services according to customer requirements and with the lowest accident rate, so it is essential to have an efficient operation and availability of the fleet of vehicles which is not being specified in the reality, there starts the development of this research: to propose the implementation of a Maintenance Management for the vehicles of the company in such a way that they can fulfill an optimal function under the parameters requested and expected by the client. / Trabajo de Suficiencia Profesional

Technologies for better utilisation of production process resourcesIngwald, Anders January 2009 (has links)
Most companies today are working in a global environment where competition is hard. In order to be able to survive it is essential that the companies utilise their resources as much as possible in order to keep the production cost low. Maintenance plays a crucial role because of its impact on availability, reliability, quality and life cycle cost (LCC). However, being able to use maintenance proactively so as to increase the utilisation of the production process resources requires access to proper tools and methods for deciding on what maintenance to use and to follow up maintenance impact. Consequently, the overall research problem discussed in the thesis is: How to select a maintenance policy and follow up its performance with respect to cost-effectiveness in order to improve company profitability. In order to solve this overall research problem it has been broken down into four research questions R1: How can different approaches intended for maintaining or improving production process performance assist in the identification, analysis, elimination and prevention of recurrence of problems in a production process?, R2: How should maintenance be selected on the basis of cost-effectiveness?, R3: How should the technical and financial performance of maintenance be measured in order to enable cost-effective improvements? and R4: How to access relevant data required for cost-effective decisions in maintenance?. The philosophical basis applied in the work presented in this thesis is systems theory. When looking at maintenance, it is necessary to have a wide perspective and also see the interaction between maintenance and other relevant working areas. The major contributions that have been achieved and reported in the thesis are: 1. A literature review regarding current approach abilities to identify, analyse and prevent the recurrence of problems, 2. The development of a conceptual model for measuring the maintenance impact through a set of key performance indicators indicating where and how much to invest in maintenance., 3. The development of a maintenance support system for measuring the economic/financial impact of maintenance on both operative and strategic levels, 4. The development of a model for selecting and improving maintenance policies based on cost-effectiveness. The model presented is characterised by being flexible, in the meaning that it is possible to make a selection among any types of maintenance policies., 5. The definition and description of a common database containing relevant data for maintenance management and 6. Results from an exploratory study regarding IT maturity within maintenance management in Swedish industry are presented. The main conclusion of the thesis is that the tools and methods described in this thesis can represent important elements in a system to continuously and cost-effectively improve maintenance performance and thereby better utilise the resources in the production process.

A maintenance strategy for a network of automated fluid management systems / by Francois Oosthuizen.Oosthuizen, Francois January 2012 (has links)
The current economic climate in South Africa requires organisations to optimise available resources – human and otherwise – to successfully sustain business operations. This is especially true for the growing SMME sector in South Africa.
Organisations utilising hydrocarbon based products for input products into their respective process - specifically fuels and lubricants – face an even greater challenge in optimising resource usage as fuel and lubricant prices have increased substantially over the last decade. Automated and advanced technological solutions to properly and effectively manage these fuel and lubricant resources must be employed within organisations. This is critical as fuel and lubricants can constitute a large part of the annual expenditure within an organisation. Such organisations can include:
• Mining operations
• Transport operations
• Agricultural operations
• Maritime operations
Newcom Fluid Management has developed a Fuel & Fluid Management Solution which consists of an electronic control system and various other elements to assist organisations in managing these fuel and lubricant resources. The Newcom FMS makes use of physical hardware on the client’s site as well as an internet based software system to control, monitor and report on all fuel and lubricant usages. There is also a large human resource element behind the system which continuously maintains these remote systems such that clients can enjoy the availability of fuels and lubricants when desired.
The Newcom FMS must be properly maintained and resources optimised to allow Newcom to not only make a profit, but to stay competitive in the market place by providing clients with a sustainable and available solution. Therefore a properly researched maintenance management strategy must be developed for Newcom and the Newcom FMS solution to ensure that not only the client’s resources are optimised, but also Newcom’s resources in order to maintain the Newcom FMS.
The aim of this research was to:
• Research the theory behind maintenance management;
• Identify and develop a sustainable maintenance strategy for the Newcom FMS solution taking into account the success factors as required by Newcom;
• Test the experimental strategy and the current maintenance program at current Newcom clients and capture data on the two strategies employed;
• Analyse and compare the experimental data to determine the effectiveness of the experimental maintenance strategy versus the corrective strategy;
• Provide the experimental maintenance strategy “product” to Newcom along with the data obtained in the experiment as well as the recommendations on the way forward with the data obtained from the experiment serving as inputs.
The parameters which were measured in the experiment were:
• System availability;
• Strategy expenditure and
• Resources usage.
The parameters were selected by Newcom as being the most pertinent to their current operational environment. Achieving success in these areas would effectively increase the probability of a successful maintenance management strategy for Newcom.
• The experimental data was captured for the period the experiment was executed for. This data was analysed, the results were interpreted a / Thesis (MIng (Development and Management Engineering))--North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2013.

It also pinpoints benefits associated with the maintenance, ways to priorize interventions or roads, and some economic and financial analysis. It also works with the forestry exploration entrepreneurship for cellulose extraction, shows a broad vision of that entrepreneurship, approaches the forestry harvesting system, brings a brief discussion about the road maintenance under private entrepreneurships and discusses economic advantages of managing the maintenance of unpaved road network. All concepts previously discussed are the foundation of the proposed unpaved road maintenance management system. Among such concepts is the use of Relational Unified Process tool, a proposal addressed to carry on the unpaved road network management process, suggestions for maintenance polices and alternatives of maintenance interventions, and ways of collecting data related to the vehicle fleet and the condition of the road network. Improving the reliability of a chemical process plantTomo, Zonwabele Zweli Simon 05 June 2012 (has links)
M.Phil. / In modern society, professional engineers, technologists and technical managers are responsible for the planning, design, manufacture, maintenance and operation of the processes and systems ranging from simple processes to complex systems. The failure of these can often cause effects that range from inconvenience and irritation to severe impact on the society and its environment. Users, customers and society in general expect that products be reliable and safe at all times (Allan & Ballinton 1992). The biggest investment in any plant is, arguably, on individual plant equipment. It is therefore reasonable to give the greatest attention possible to the health and integrity of equipment that form part of the chemical process plant.Most of plant failures occur without warning and this result in equipment breakdowns, huge production losses and expensive maintenance. The reaction to plant failures has, in most cases, been a reactive maintenance which means that the plant equipment must fail before the cause of fault is investigated and the equipment is repaired. Reactive maintenance has shortcomings in that it is successful in solving problems temporarily but does not guarantee prevention of fault recurrence. Equipment and process failures waste money on unreliability problems. The question that arises is. ‘How reliable and safe is the plant during its operating life?’ This question can be answered, in part, by the use of quantitative reliability evaluation. The growing need to achieve high availability for large integrated chemical process systems demands higher levels of reliability at the operational stage. Reliability is the probability of equipment or processes to function without failure when operated correctly for a given interval of time under stated conditions. This research dissertation is aimed at developing equipment optimisation program for the chemical process plant by introducing a logical approach to managing the maintenance of plant equipment. Some relevant reliability theory is discussed and applied to the Short – Path Distillation (SPD) plant of SASOL WAX. An analysis of the failure modes and criticality helps to identify plant equipment that needs special focus during inspection.
