The Chief Executive Officer of Charter Management Organizations and their Perspective on Instructional Leadership to Improve Student Achievement

Geigle, Bryce Alan 01 January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between academic emphasis and executive leadership from the perspective of a California charter management organization (CMO) chief executive officer (CEO). Executive leaders in California CMOs have a unique perspective that needs investigated. They experience educational leadership differently depending upon their individual backgrounds, educational experiences, and the families they serve. This study seeks to understand the experiences of a specific group of executive leaders and how they define academic emphasis in their CMO. The theoretical framework used to interpret the research findings was instructional leadership. The framework effectively built a lens for the reader to conceptualize the research of this study. The theoretical framework worked to guide and frame interpretation of respondent data. The research served to inform the research questions, not answer them explicitly. The research used a qualitative case study design approach focused on the story of the lived experience from the individual. The design aspired to interpret meanings and experiences from responses to uncover deep and detailed understanding. A CMO CEO responded to semi-structured interview questions. The interview protocol consisted of various question types: open-ended questions, follow-up questions, and classification questions. As transformational and educational leadership collide in Dr. Viviane Robinson’s current instructional leadership framework, the capability that is not explicitly presented is the ability for school leaders to build capacity for equity consciousness in all teammates in their organization and/or school. The findings from this study suggested that a fourth leadership capability is emerging in Dr. Robinson’s framework. There is a critical need for organization and school leaders to be equipped with the skills to seed an equity consciousness across teammates and other stakeholders.

A Study of Industry Cluster and End-game Strategy of Taiwanese Tuna Longline Fishery

Tseng, Shu-Hui 05 September 2009 (has links)
Tuna longline fishery produces the highest output among Taiwanese far sea fisheries. In 2007, it created NT$31.7 billion of sales, 1/3 of Taiwanese fisheries. In 2005, ICCAT identified Taiwanese tuna longliners because of their excessive catches and laundering activities in bigeye tuna. The identification by ICCAT initiated dramatic change of Taiwanese tuna longline fishery. This study described the characters of Taiwanese tuna longline fishery, compared catches of 4 major tuna longline countries: Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and China in 2004. The result showed that Taiwanese tuna longliners got the highest catches. In addition, Taiwanese boat owners owned and operated longliners in other flags. The huge fishing capacity which owned by Taiwanese boat owners became a threat to tuna resources. This study first analyzed the attributes of diamond of national advantage that help Taiwanese tuna longline fishery prospect in Cianjhen Fishing Port, Kaohsiung City, and how it enjoyed the benefit of industry cluster. This part depicted success of the past. Facing the global over capacity of fishing vessels and shrinkage of tuna resources, Taiwanese tuna fishery can not indulge in glory of past. Instead, disadvantage of competition condition highlighted importance of end-game strategy which help boat owners make their decision of continuation or divestment of their business. The decline of an industry derives from the weakness of itself. This study emphasizes organization change and innovation, which must be rooted from respect to the precious tuna resources, then apply fishery science to improve fishing efficiency and proper use of manpower from different nations.

Utvärdering av förvaltningsplaner ur ett tekniknära perspektiv : En fallstudie vid Trafikverket / Evaluation of management-plans from a technical perspective : A case study at the Swedish Transport Administration

Söderlund, Josefine, Törn, Ida January 2020 (has links)
The Swedish Transport Administration has done an adaptation of the På maintenance management model (pm3) where management has been divided into business management and technical management. A management-object includes both the business and the ITsystems. Moreover, the management-organization writes management-plans which are governing-documents for deliveries within the Swedish Transport Administration. This study focuses on the technical management perspective and the technical side of the management-plans. There was a need to study the management-plans’ usability at the Department of Information and Communication Technology – Infrastructure Information. As such, the following research questions were formulated: 1. What is the process of making management-plans in Infrastructure Information at the Swedish Transport Administration today, according to the technical management; 2. Are the management-plans useful for the management-object in the perspective of technical management; 3. How is it ensured that the management-plan is used to support the work, and a basis for objectivity when fulfilling goals within the technical management? This study was conducted in the form of a descriptive case study in which qualitative data was collected by means of interviews and document studies. The interviews included four managers and six leaders of technical management, who represent the administrative management within the technical management. The results show that the management-objects are too big, and that there is a need for sub-management-plans to acquire more details. The respondents of this study wish the management-plan was a more vivid document. The main conclusions drawn from this study are that the management-plans are useful as a follow up for activities but not for following up on goals. And that while the management-plans provide an overview of the management object, the sub-management-plans are needed to specify details

Geithner, Silke, Gühne, Michael, Schirmer, Frank January 2015 (has links)
This paper presents the results of a survey of 648 German companies that participated in an online survey in summer 2014. The study focuses on how companies perceive demographic trends, how they react on it and which specific HRM-instruments are used to deal with it. Our results show that demographic change and its consequences (lack of skilled labor and workforce aging) are perceived by respondents as a major challenge. Most companies already use some common instruments and methods for managing demographic change, especially in the field of apprenticeship, training and human resource development and the analysis of personnel and age structure of the companies. Instruments in the field of knowledge management as well as methods regarding age-friendly job design are far less used. Furthermore, we can show that the more strategic and reflexive companies´ HRM practices are; the more intensive is the use of tools dealing with demographic changes. Overall, the companies do have sufficient potential in establishing HRM practices that meet demographic challenges. This paper describes the background and process of the study and presents in detail the results of the descriptive data analysis. In addition, recommendations for companies are derived.

Strategies for Crisis Preparedness of Tourist Destinations

Todman-Lewis, Carrine V. M. 01 January 2017 (has links)
Billion-dollar disasters are projected to increase at a statistically significant rate of 5% annually. Crises affect the viability and lucrativeness of tourism business and implicate destinations in the process. Crisis preparedness is vital to improving outcomes and reducing consequential effects in the tourism industry-a key contributor to socioeconomic progress and infrastructural development worldwide. The study was an exploration of the strategies used for crisis preparedness to reduce business interruptions and improve the image of destinations affected by large-scale natural disasters and human-induced crises. A multiple case study was conducted based on the cycle of preparedness framework. Data were gathered from organization documents and semistructured interviews by telephone with 6 executives of 6 destination management organizations located in the south and west regions of the United States. Transcribed data were coded and then validated via member checking, revealing 3 themes: organizational preparedness, operational preparedness, and strategic communication. Specifically, possessing a crisis mindset, predetermining crisis risks and responses, and managing information to safeguard the reputation of tourism organizations and destinations were attributed to preparedness at the local and organization levels. Tourism and hospitality professionals may benefit from devising crisis plans, establishing rapport with crisis leaders and teams, and partnering with the media to promote positive perceptions and travel behaviors of tourists. Implications for social change include identifying strategies to limit the impact of crises on individuals and communities to improve the perceptions of safety of a tourist destination after a crisis and thus enhance its economic growth.
