Methodology The foundation to my essay has been created using both primary and secondary data. Inquiries have been handed out to Handelsbanken. This data is completed with appropriate theories and ends in an analysis and finally a result and suggestion to continuing studies. Conclusions My conclusion is that the employees and the management has the same opinion on the bonussystem Oktogon. Both parts sees the system as a motivation factor in the organization. But still not enough effect on the employees to call it an effective strategy.

Förutsättningar för ett bra chefskap inom äldreomsorgen ur ett chefsperspektiv

Betydelsen av ett gott chefskap inom äldreomsorgen är av stor vikt för medarbetarna, de boende och verksamheten. Omvårdnadsarbetet påverkas av chefens sätt att arbeta och det krävs därför att chefen är medveten om vad som utgör ett bra chefskap. Intervjuerna i denna studie är utförda med sju enhetschefer inom äldreomsorgen i Sverige. Syftet var att undersöka hur enhetschefer inom svensk äldreomsorg uppfattar sitt chefsarbete inom detta verksamhetsområde. Resultatet visade att arbetssätt, relationer, förhållningssätt och utvecklingsarbete är faktorer som enligt dessa chefer utmärker ett bra chefskap. Förutsättningar för ett bra chefskap var goda arbetsvillkor, motivation, stöd, samarbete, personliga egenskaper och upplevelser av chefskapet.

An Agent Based Transaction Manager for Multidatabase Systems

A multidatabase system (MDBMS) is a facility that allows users to access data located in multiple autonomous database management systems (DBMSs) at different sites. To ensure global atomicity for multidatabase transactions, a reliable global atomic commitment protocol is a possible solution. In this protocol a centralized transaction manager (TM) receives global transactions, submits subtransactions to the appropriate sites via AGENTS. An AGENT is a component of MDBS that runs on each site; AGENTS after receiving subtransactions from the transaction manager perform the transaction and send the results back to TM. We have presented a unique proof-of-concept, a JAVA application for an Agent Based Transaction Manager that preserves global atomicity. It provides a user friendly interface through which reliable atomic commitment protocol for global transaction execution in multidatabase environment can be visualized. We demonstrated with three different test case scenarios how the protocol works. This is useful in further research in this area where atomicity of transactions can be verified for protocol correctness.

Design management är ett arbetssätt som har börjat tillämpas av allt fler företag de senaste åren, men det kan fortfarande vara svårt att förstå betydelsen av design management. I uppsatsen undersöks det vilken betydelse en design managers kompetens och position har för samarbetet mellan det designköpande företaget och en designkonsult under ett designinköp. Genom ett flertal intervjuer, utifrån både design managers och designkonsulters perspektiv, undersöks det hur samarbetet fungerar mellan dessa parter. En analys av intervjumaterial med hjälp av en teoretisk referensram bestående av design management-teori, design som en integrerad process och beslutsrollsteori har lett fram till ett antal slutsatser om design management. Några av slutsatserna är att design management, enligt teorierna, som arbetssätt inte är så vanligt och att det finns en viss samarbetsbrist enligt de intervjuade designkonsulterna, som i viss mån underlättas om design managern har kunskap om vad design innebär.

Lex Sarah inom kommunal äldreomsorg : En kvalitativ studie utifrån enhetschefers perspektiv på anmälningar vid missförhållanden

The purpose of this study has been to examine the unit manager’s perspective on making Lex Sarah-notifications. The study has been carries out by six semi structured interviews with persons in leading positions of the elderly from three different municipalities. They were asked about different circumstances that affects the problems with Lex Sarah. The results indicates that the unit manager’s act on elder abuse from the complex mechanisms that exist within the organization. The study results shows that the unit manager’s in the daily tasks are doing their work and solve problems regarding the risk of elder abuse that occur over time, but circumstances will determine if its documented prescribed by a Lex Sarah. The conclusion is that the unit manager’s of the elderly is limited by the circumstances and processes within the organization and that it affects them to lift up and report abuse among the elderly.

Project Success : Application of Kotter's functions of managers and leaders when evaluating project success: using The Iron Triangle

Background: Working in a project setting has been common since the nineteenth-century and has been developed in numerous industries until today. Nevertheless, we have found a gap in research, to separately study managers’ and leaders’ way to influence the success in projects. We believe that to study how the functions of managers and leaders affect the outcome of a project, will bring new knowledge for how the people involved in a project can create a successful project. This is important and interesting to be aware of due to the increasing working method nowadays, which is to work in projects. With more knowledge for what act that affect a successful project, the easier it will be for the manager and/or leader involved in a project to reach the set of objectives for the project and then create a successful outcome.   Problem: Since working in the form of projects is a common method today, it is interesting to see which functions of the project manager that is most important to develop, to be able to reach the objectives of a project. This can be measured by using The Iron Triangle, and by that evaluate how the functions of managers and leaders, explained by Kotter, influence project success. Kotter’s functions of managers and leaders are until today only applied in the context of organizations; therefore we want to see how these might influence in a project situation.   Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to see how Kotter’s functions of managers and leaders influence the objectives for a project, using the criteria in The Iron Triangle for measuring project success. Method: The thesis is based on face-to-face interviews with three project managers. The interviews were divided into two parts; the first part with opened questions and the second part with closed questions. The empirical findings have been analyzed with the theories from the frame of reference as a foundation. By doing so, the theories have been challenged to as well as strengthened to the findings based on the interview material. Conclusion: Based on the findings from the interviews with the projects managers, we can conclude that the theory presented in the frame of reference; Kotter’s functions of managers and leaders in combination with the The Iron Triangle, are not completely relevant in all situations when measuring the success of a project. All functions of Kotter are not required and all criteria in The Iron Triangle are not important for measuring the success. Additional finding was that one essential part for the project success was that the objective for a project should be set and clearly spelled out in advance to the people involved in order to create a successful outcome.

It studies the construction, development and consequences of job satisfaction.Design/methodology: The data is collected from commercial bank in Pakistan through a survey by using two different questionnaires, one for employees and one for managers. SPSS technique was used for data analysis.Result & Conclusion: The job satisfaction factors and manager behavior are the input in construction and development of employees’ job satisfaction. Six factors: (promotion, pay, benefit, rewards coworkers and job responsibilities) and managerial style: (middle to the road managerial style) are the most important basis to build the satisfaction level of the employees. Satisfaction/dissatisfaction of an employee affects the organizational efficiency as well as individual efficiency.Contribution: This research helps researchers to use the created model for further extensive research on job satisfaction. It helps the organizations to assess the status of their employee in regard of job satisfaction. Managers can manage polices related to factors and design training accordingly for the desired leadership behavior according to employees preference.Further Suggestion: This research is done in one department of commercial bank in Pakistan. Increase in sample size could produce comprehensive results. National culture effect is ignored in this research that helps to look on different consequences of job satisfaction assessment according to country’s culture. Denna studie syftar till att få en ökad förståelse för hur arenachefer i Sverige rekryteras, vi tar även upp hur rekryteringsprocessen såg ut för respondenterna som deltog i denna studie. Vi kommer även att belysa vilka arbetsuppgifter och ansvarsområden de arenacheferna vi har intervjuat har. Arenacheferna är verksamma på arenor vars hemmahörande idrotter är på elitnivå, på dessa arenor arrangeras även allt ifrån uppträdanden med världsartister inom musikbranschen till mindre företagsevent. Ur resultatet framkommer det att rekryteringsprocessen, ansvarsområden och arbetsuppgifterna skiljer sig mellan de olika arenacheferna. Gemensamma nämnare för arenacheferna är att samtliga har ett ansvar för personal, ekonomi och säkerhet. / The aim of this study is to gain a better understanding of the recruitment of arena managers in Sweden, and also the recruitment process for the managers participating in this study. Furthermore we will highlight the job tasks and areas of responsibility of the managers interviewed in this study. The managers are employed at arenas that host everything from professional sports to music events featuring world renowned artists and minor company events. The results of this study show that the recruitment process, areas of responsibility and job tasks differ among the arena managers. What unites them is that they all have a responsibility for personnel, finances and security.

Motivation to work : diffrences between managers and workers

While studying management we realised that most of the already existing theories discuss motivation to work from a general perspective. Therefore we found it interesting to investigate motivation on a deeper level. "Motivation to work - differences between managers and workers" The research questions for our thesis are, is there a difference in motivation between managers and workers? If so, what is the difference between the two? The purpose is to examine if a manager and a worker have shared understandings and common factors of what motivates them, or if certain characteristics can be distinguished. For our research we have chosen to use three companies operating within the financial sector in Sweden. Moreover, the chosen companies are located nearby which gives us the opportunity to visit them and to accomplish face to face conversations. We have interviewed two persons at each company, whereby one has the position of a manager and the other has the position of a worker. Moreover, the method of our interviews are qualitative, mostly due to the fact that we wanted create a comfortable feeling for the interviewee and to so that we could get deep insight of what motivates that person. We have studied old famous theories regarding motivation to work, we have also found more recent research about the subject. Especially in journals and financial databases, to get as updated information as possible. The theoretical framework has been useful to us in two ways, to get a foundation so that we could accomplish interviews with thought worthy questions. The second reason was to be able to interpret and analyse the collected material. To a certain point we mention the similarities in motivation to work between a worker and a manager, however our main focus in our thesis are the differences. We have analysed the perspective of how they feel about their work and their possibility towards advancement. All our interviewees have a great interest for their work and the financial line of business, moreover, the managers are satisfied with their positions and the workers are satisfied at the moment but would like to advance in the future. The most important interview questions in our study are, is it important for you to get rewards for your performance? What factors are motivating to you? The outcomes of our answers differ between the managers and the workers. Furthermore, we have used Herzberg, Vroom and other theories presented in our study to be able to strengthen our argument. Indeed, the more resent articles have been helpful to us while interpreting the collected material. We have found answers to our research questions, there are differences in motivation to work between managers and workers. Money is a great motivator for the workers, and working climate, recognition and free time are the essential factors for the managers. We have also reached the conclusion that people always strive for more. In our case the workers want more tangible rewards and material benefits and on the contrary the managers desire non material factors as family and free time.
