Ověření dědičnosti barev okrasného kapra koi s využitím metod genomových manipulací / The assessment of colour inheritance in ornamental koi carp with the use of genome manipulation methods

ŠTĚCH, Luděk January 2009 (has links)
The goal of this thesis was to assess colour inheritance in Showa tricolour variety of koi carp (black basis, white and red signs). Fish of the same colouration were pair-mated. Colouration of fingerlings was assessed in one day age. Colouration was observed in two forms, like melanin pigmentation and non-melanin pigmentation (black- pigmented and gold -pigmented fingerlings). In the tests, gynogenesis was employed, transmissing only mother`s genome to offspring. Gynogenesis was practiced in RIFCH USB in Vodnany. Gynogenetic offspring was further photographically documented to assess colouration of fingerlings and relationship between both variants of colouration. Fry from propagation was bred in ponds to the size stage of advanced fry (Kr; 90-day old, size 5- 6 cm). In this size, fingerlings were caught from breeding ponds, counted and further documented to check phenotype segregation.

The objective this study was to evaluate the effect of temporomandibular articular mobilization in the pain caudal way, in the Electromyographic sign and in the movement amplitude of 18 women at the average age of 30, 38 (+4.31) years old presenting temporomandibular muscular dysfunction .Evaluations occurred in 5 moments: Pre Placebo, Post Placebo, Pre Therapy, Post therapy and forty eight hours after the therapy. In order to obtain pain threshold for pressure it was used a DDK/20 digital algometer (Kratos). The electric activity of the temporal and masseter muscles was evaluated bilaterally with the Lynx ADS1200 signals acquisition system , a gain from 1to 16000, 2000 Hz sampling frequency, 20-500HZ pass band filter and the values expressed by root mean square. Movement amplitude evaluation followed Research Diagnostic Criteria Axis I .Data were submitted to the variance analysis through GLIMMIX procedure of SAS system (The SAS System, release 9.2. SAS Institute Inc., Cary: NC, 2008). Sanity measures were applied (One-way ANOVAs) and where there was a significant effect p<0.05) Tukey Test was applied .The results showed that the articular mobilization generated positive effects immediately after the treatment leading to articular and muscular pain decrease, Electromyographic sign increase and temporomandibular joint movement amplitude increase .After forty eight hours the effects of decreased articular pain in the right side, left masseter and temporal muscles, increase in the electro myographic sign in the left masseter and temporal muscles and increase in the movement amplitude remained / Mestrado / Anatomia / Mestre em Biologia Buco-Dental

Úloha médií v rozhodování v charitativní pomoci potřebným / Role of the media in decision-making about charity to help the needy

Slabionová, Jozefína January 2014 (has links)
"Role of the media in decision-making about charity to help the needy" This thesis deals with the role of media in decision-making of an individual relating to charitable activities in the Czech society. The theoretical part turns attention to both basic topics, ie, the media and charity. The part concerning the media tries to show the linkage and interaction of media, as means of communication, and society, as the object of their action and influence. It deals with means of communication and subsequent transformation of the society. The thesis does not forget to mention responsibility of the media and the related ethics of media. The part relating to the charity presents output data from realized research on the charity work in the Czech Republic, information on donations and on credibility of organizations providing assistance to the needy. Conclusion of the theoretical part focuses on cooperation of the media and charitable organizations in organizing the most significant charitable events. The practical part is devoted to the survey of public opinion itself through a questionnaire survey. In this investigation, the focus is on whether a person contributes to charity, and what the main impetus for a donation is. The thesis confirms the hypothesis that the media play an important role in...

BARNMORSKORS HANDLÄGGNING I ATT FÖREBYGGA UPPKOMSTEN AV PERINEALBRISTNINGAR : En webbaserad enkätundersökning

Nilsson, Alva, Lejerdal, Ronja January 2020 (has links)
Aim: Investigate how midwives work to protect perineal tears during labour. Method: Quantitative cross-sectional study, data were collected through a webbased survey and compiled with descriptive statistics. Result: Total of 86 midwives participated, the mean value of active years as midwives in group ≤7 years was (M = 2,97) years. In group >7 years the mean value was (M = 18,05) years. Midwives ≤7 years considered high workload affected the onset of perineal tears and careful attendance and c grip were factors that counteracted of perineal tears. Midwives >7 years followed PM/guidelines and did not prepare women at beginning of labour. Midwives in both groups used the Norwegian hand grip and the majority of midwives raised the baby’s head during delivery. Conclusions: Midwives used a non-evidence based handgrip or practical experience. Midwives with longer experience did not prepare women at the beginning of labour, this can be seen as a lack of empowerment or that midwives with longer experience have easier to make an individual assessment. Midwives with shorter experience considered that forced delivery affected the onset of perineal tears. Midwives want more knowledge and learning from colleagues which can strengthen midwives empowerment.

Evaluating native warm-season grass and wildflower mixtures for beef cattle production in the Mid-Atlantic

Kubesch, Jonathan Omar Cole 20 December 2023 (has links)
Tall fescue grasslands are the dominant form of grasslands in the North American transition zone, however, warm-season forages provide necessary forage for livestock in the summer. Pollinators require steady forage availability in the same fashion as cattle. Native warm-season grasses (NWSG) and wildflowers (WF) could be incorporated into tall fescue (TF) grasslands to improve pollinator resources within agricultural landscapes without sacrificing livestock production. This balance of ecosystem services can be considered bee-friendly beef. Previous establishment experiments suggests that bee-friendly beef is a possibility, although establishment and persistence of NWSG-WF stands warrants additional research. Three small plot experiments were conducted to evaluate different planting methods designed to optimize establishment of NWSG-WF stands. Additionally, a grazing study examined whether NWSG-WF pasture enhancement could improve animal performance in TF grazing systems. The small plot experiments experienced extreme weed competition in the establishment year, although plots with higher NWSG content had fewer weeds over time. Floral production was comparable across treatment, which suggests lower WF seeding rates can generate comparable pollinator resources. Major findings from these experiments suggested that spatial or temporal separation of NWSGWF was unnecessary to generate successful establishment, varying the ratio of NWSG-WF in seed mixtures produced similar establishment outcomes, and that adding companion crops to NWSG-WF mixtures did not improve establishment success appreciably. In the grazing experiment, animal performance was improved in the biodiverse grazing systems when heifers 3 had access to the NWSG. Biodiverse and shaded grazing systems modified animal behavior and reduced body temperature relative to control grazing systems, although only biodiverse grazing systems improved animal performance. Native WF species failed to establish within the biodiverse grazing system, but white clover provided all subsequent floral production. Establishing WF in pastures is challenging and warrants additional study on more effective weed control strategies and systems to ensure establishment success. Selecting WF for agronomic performance or breeding such plant material will be necessary to improve emergence and establishment dynamics. Ideally trait data can identify the optimal WF species for specific grazing systems. Biodiverse NWSG-WF can be highly effective at improving summer weight gain in beef cattle. Future studies should focus on finding a more optimal balance of NWSG, WF, and TF that can benefit beef cattle production, pollinator services, and ecosystem services regarding soil and water quality, as well as pasture resiliency to dynamic conditions. / Doctor of Philosophy / Tall fescue grasslands are the dominant form of grasslands in the North American transition zone, however, warm-season forages provide necessary forage for livestock in the summer. Guldgubbar : En studie om guldgubbars gestik och manipulationer / Gold goil figures : A study on the gestures and manipulations of gold foil figures

Rudenlöv, Ruth January 2022 (has links)
The size of the gold foil figures is about the size of half a postal stamp and consists of millimeter-thin gold plates with depicted motifs. They may be the smallest artefact that we have left from the Late Iron Age, more specifically 6th and 7th Century CE. Despite this, it has not stopped the craftsman from creating such detailed motifs that are almost impossible to see to the naked eye. In previous research, the gold foil figures have been treated as representative images, however, this present work shows that these small gold plates have been considered as more than just images. An investigation is conducted of phenomenological aspects that can be observed in the picture, and of different conditions in which the find arises. By studying and discussing the collection of gold foil figures from four locations in southern Sweden and comparing various aspects that arise in the material, interesting patterns and details are noted which did not receive much attention previously.

Fernandez Oviedo, Abril Nicole 01 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to compare the physiological stability during and after clustered care of preterm infants between born between 24 and 316/7 weeks of gestational age and hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) versus a non-clustered standard care. Ten preterm infants, between 24.2 and 29.6 weeks of gestational age at birth, were recruited for the study. The analysis of covariance with repeated measures controlling for noise showed no significant difference in SCRIP scores between the periods of clustered care and control. In light of these results, preterm infants should benefit from this intervention when hospitalized in the NICU, in order to reduce the frequency of manipulations, offer longer periods of sleep and limit their energy expenditure.

Trying To Exit Here

Suggs, Leigh C 01 January 2015 (has links)
There is an in-between space during the act of seeing. The in-between space lies on the spectrum of the reality in front of us and what our brain tells us. It is within this suspended moment an individual can experience an unaltered and unaffected vision. While this moment is fleeting, it defines the highest peak of personal experience. It is my belief no two people will ever experience the same vision during this suspended time. And after it passes, the sigh/vision can never be the same. We are constantly bearing witness to the inexpressive, and this fleeting moment is something in which we should all revel.
