Diodata Saluzzo nella cultura letteraria del primo Ottocento ˸ i carteggi / Diodata Saluzzo dans la culture littéraire du XIXe siècle / Diodata Saluzzo in the Italian culture during the 19th century ˸ the epistolary

Le but de ce projet de doctorat c’est celui de donner une contribution aux études littéraires concertantes la fin du XVIIIe siècle et le début du XIXe, au moyen de l’édition critique de la correspondance de l’autrice Diodata Saluzzo Roero. La thèse se compose de trois chapitres et de l’édition des lettres. Le premier chapitre donne une contextualisation historique du Piémont du 1700, avec une attention particulière à l’expérience intellectuelle de Carlo Denina et Prospero Balbo, lesquels ont eu une influence importante sur Diodata et sa génération. Dans ce chapitre on a analysé, aussi, la première activité de l’Académie des Sciences de Turin, fondée par Giuseppe Angelo Saluzzo, le père de Diodata. Dans le deuxième chapitre, on donne la biographie complète de l’autrice, revue et augmentée de nouvelles informations, obtenues en analysant les lettres. Le troisième chapitre examine les correspondances principales de Diodata Saluzzo, et quelques-unes de ses lettres les plus intéressantes. En particulier, on a analysé les correspondances avec Cesare Lucchesini, Alessandro Manzoni, Coriolano Malingri, Prospero Balbo e toutes les auteurs femmes. Dans ce chapitre sont présentes aussi quelques voies thématiques, pour faciliter l’orientation du lecteur.La seconde partie contient l’édition commentée de l’entier corpus des lettres de Diodata Saluzzo, rangé selon un principe rigidement chronologique. Enfin, dans un appendice final, on a joint toutes les lettres que les autres autrices de cette période ont envoyées à Diodata ; ces lettres ont été analysées dans le dernier paragraphe du troisième chapitre. / This thesis is focused on the commented edition of the epistolary of Diodata Saluzzo, a female poet who had a central role in Italian literature between 18th and 19th centuries.The thesis, in addition to the letter’s edition, is composed of three chapters. First chapter gives an historical contextualization focused on Piemonte during the 18th century. It pays particular attention on Carlo Denina and Prospero Balbo’s intellectual experience, which had an important influence on Diodata Saluzzo and her generation. In this chapter is also analysed the early activity of the Accademy of Sciences, which was founded by Diodata’s father, Giuseppe Angelo Saluzzo. The second chapter includes a complete biography of Diodata Saluzzo, updated with the new information obtained by the epistolary. In the third chapter the most important letters and main correspondences pertained to Cesare Lucchesini, Alessandro Manzoni, Prospero Balbo and the female writers are examined as well. In this chapter, the main topics are also introduced, to simplify the reader’s approach to the epistolary. The second part is composed of the commented edition of the entire corpus of Diodata Saluzzo’s letters, ordered chronologically. Lastly, in the final appendix, are included the letters of other female writers sent to Diodata Saluzzo, which were exanimated in the last paragraph of the third chapter.

La thèse porte sur la représentation de la foule « rebelle » dans la littérature italienne du XIXème siècle. Tout en considérant les contributions des sciences sociales, de Le Bon a l'école lombrosienne de Scipio Sighele et Pasquale Rossi, passant par Freud, jusqu'aux sociologues plus contemporains, comme Reich, Ortega y Gasset, Canetti, Allport, Turner etc, la recherche se concentre sur le roman et la nouvelle, qui voient le jour dans une Italie qui, luttant pour son unité nationale, n'arrive pas a transformer la révolution politique en révolution nationale, selon la formule de Nievo. Manzoni fixe le modèle de représentation des foules rebelles, qui sera suivi par Nievo avec des variations importantes. Ensuite, l'influence de Zola s'ajoutera a celle de Manzoni et dominera, d'une part, l'idée que la foule est capable de montrer un comportement rationnel et d'être un sujet vraiment révolutionnaire (les scapigliati, Valera, De Amicis, etc), d'autre part celle du pessimisme et du destin prédéterminé des masses (Verga). Enfin, Gabriele D'Annunzio, dans ses nouvelles et ses romans, oscillera entre la fascination pour la sauvagerie des foules et son méprise d'aristocratique. / The thesis is about the representation of the rebel crowds in the Italian literature in the 19th century. We consider the contributions of social sciences, from Le Bon to the lombrosian school of Scipio Sighele and Pasquale Rossi, as well as Freud, until some more contemporary sociologists, like Reich, Ortega y Gasset, Canetti, Allport, Turner etc; but the research focuses on the novels and the short stories, which are conceived in Italie, when the fight for the national unity tries, without success, to transform the political revolution in a national revolution, according to the expression of Nievo. Manzoni standardizes de model of the representation of the rebel crowds, which will be followed by Nievo, with some important variations. Therefore, the influence of Zola adds to the Manzoni's one. It will dominate, on the one hand, the idea of a rational crowd, that is a potential revolutionary subject (the , scapigliati, Valera, De Amicis, etc), on the other hand the one of the pessimism and of the predetermined destiny of the masses (Verga). Finally, Gabriele D'Annunzio, in his novels and short stories, fluctuates between the fascination for the savage side of the crowds and his aristocratic contempt.

His body of work includes a range of practices from monochrome painting to readymade objects, from participatory sculpture to designs for architecture. More than simply innovative in its form and media, however, Manzoni's practice articulates a politics of the body and of the self that departs radically from the belief systems at stake in the work of his contemporaries in both Europe and America. A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo principal organizar a recepção do romance I Promessi Sposi (Os Noivos), de autoria de Alessandro Manzoni (1785-1873), no Brasil. A narrativa tem como protagonistas os jovens Renzo e Lucia que enfrentam as maiores dificuldades de seu tempo (a carestia, a fome, o domínio estrangeiro, as guerras e a peste no norte da Itália durante o século XVII) para realizar seu matrimonio e é uma das obras-primas da literatura italiana e mundial. Este trabalho estuda as maneiras pelas quais o romance manzoniano aporta em terras brasileiras, é acolhido e permanece como argumento de debates críticos, desde o primeiro registro encontrado por esta investigação até o ano de 2012, data da publicação da última tradução brasileira. Neste sentido, estudaram-se as diversas traduções, edições e adaptações publicadas deste romance no Brasil, atentando seja para a forma como se dá o transporte do texto original italiano para a língua portuguesa, seja para as questões relacionadas ao paratexto, isto é, o cuidado editorial empregado nesses textos. Organizou-se a também a recepção da crítica brasileira a I Promessi Sposi que se deu em forma de livros, capítulos, artigos em jornais, revistas e periódicos científicos, verbetes de enciclopédias e nos Boletins do Instituto Brasileiro Estudos Manzonianos. Da coleta e análise desse material buscou-se traçar o perfil que a recepção a I Promessi Sposi conferiu a Manzoni e sua obra-prima no Brasil. / The present research has as the main objective of organizing the reception of the novel The Betrothed, from Alessandro Manzonis authorship (1785-1873), in Brazil. The narrative presents as protagonists the young Renzo and Lucia who encounter the greatest difficulties of their time (inflation, hunger, the foreigner domination, the wars and the plague in the north of Italy during the XVII century) to make their wedding happen and it is one of the masterpieces of the world and Italian Literature. This thesis studies the manners by which the Manzonian novel arrives in Brazilian lands, is accepted and remains as argument of critic debates, since the first record found by this investigation until the year 2012, the publishing date of the last Brazilian translation. In this sense, diverse translations, editions and adaptations published of this novel in Brazil were studied, noticing the way the original Italian text was transferred into the Portuguese language, and the issue related to the paratext, namely, the editorial care used in these texts. The Brazilian critic reception of the Betrothed that happened in book form, chapters, newspaper articles, magazines and scientific journals, encyclopedia entries and the newsletters of the Manzonian Studies Brazilian Institute were also organized. From the gathering and analysis of these materials we searched to outline the profile that the reception of The Betrothed granted Manzoni and his masterpiece in Brazil.

La ricerca ha approfondito il rapporto esistente tra l’ambito della parola e quello del pensiero in Alessandro Manzoni. Essa è stata articolata in due versanti: uno prevalentemente teorico denominato la parola nel pensiero dove è chiarita la Weltanschauung manzoniana sul tema in questione, l’altro sostanzialmente pratico, il pensiero nella parola, concernente l’analisi testuale delle opere letterarie e filosofiche di Manzoni. Per il primo versante, fatta luce sulla consistenza delle riflessioni filosofiche manzoniane, sui contenuti essenziali del suo pensiero e, in essi, sull’importante ruolo assunto dalla riflessione linguistica, si sono indagati gli intimi meandri speculativi inerenti il linguaggio e la parola. Per il secondo versante ci si è fatti guidare dalla riflessione manzoniana che «la parola offre intuiti al pensiero» ed «estende la cognizione» per analizzare i testi letterari non come semplici ‘concretizzazioni’ di idee precedenti, ma come ‘fucine di pensiero’. È interessante notare come le pagine letterarie, offrendo «intuiti al pensiero», precedano e incarnino quelle filosofiche e come al contempo, alla luce delle speculazioni filosofiche, le pagine letterarie acquistino maggiore profondità, in un innovativo rapporto di circolo ermeneutico, che vede nella parola letteraria ‘rivelativa’ un momento fondamentale del processo creativo e conoscitivo del Manzoni, aprendo così la strada ad ulteriori studi. / The research is an in-depth study about the relationship between word and thought in Alessandro Manzoni. It has been structured in two different parts: the first part, mainly theoretic, called la parola nel pensiero, where is clearly defined Manzoni’s Weltanschauung about this theme, the second part, basically practical, called il pensiero nella parola, concerning the textual analysis of the literary and the philosophical works by Manzoni. On the one side, after clarifying the foundation of the philosophical reflections by Manzoni, the essential contents of his thought and the important role of the linguistic thinking inside them, the last deep speculative aspects related to the language and the word have been investigated. On the other side, Manzoni’s reflection “la parola offre intuiti al pensiero” and “estende la cognizione” has been the starting point to review the literary works not only like simple forms of previous ideas but also like a breeding ground for thought. It’s interesting to notice that the literary pages offering “intuiti al pensiero”, come before and exemplify the philosophical ones and at the same time, thanks to the philosophical speculations, they gain depth inside an innovative hermeneutic circle which considers the literary word “rivelativa” a fundamental moment of the creative and cognitive process by Manzoni, opening the way for further studies.

La tesi verte sulla critica manzoniana effettuata dai docenti di letteratura italiana non più in ruolo dell’Università Cattolica: l’attenzione si è concentrata sugli apporti che hanno maggiormente influenzato gli sviluppi successivi, per il loro valore intrinseco, il potenziale innovativo o lo spirito polemico. Ogni capitolo è dedicato a un singolo studioso; dopo una succinta introduzione biografica, si analizzano i principali contributi, raggruppati in modo tale da mantenere una coerenza di argomentazione e armonizzare il criterio contenutistico con quello cronologico delle opere prodotte. Parallelamente si rilevano collegamenti, differenze e punti di contatto fra le diverse opinioni, ma soprattutto gli elementi di originalità di ciascuna a livello di metodologie e strumenti usati, tipologia di critica e di scrittura, orientamento su aspetti specifici dell’opera manzoniana e novità apportate, oggetto delle riflessioni conclusive in chiusura di capitolo. E’ stato anche delineato il rapporto fra i singoli e le varie correnti, ripercorrendo a grandi linee l'evoluzione del pensiero critico italiano nei sec. XIX e XX. La figura e l’opera di Manzoni sono state indagate da un punto di vista ora tematico, ora stilistico, ora linguistico e filologico, tenendo in conto sia la tradizione letteraria italiana, che la cultura europea. Particolare accuratezza è stata riservata alla bibliografia finale. / The paper regards literary critics on Alessandro Manzoni, performed by professors of Università Cattolica: the attention is focused on the most important contributions, for their quality, innovation, polemic meaning. After an introduction, each chapter is dedicated to a single researcher: after a short biographical introduction, fundamental essays in chronological order are examined. In the same time relationships, differences and similarities are noticed, such as methodology, critic trends, writing style. Life and works of Manzoni are investigated from a thematic, stylistic, linguistic and philological point of view, regarding both Italian literary tradition and European culture. Relationship between each researcher and various critical currents is outlined, to range critical thinking evolution in Italy during XIX and XX centuries. Finally, particular care was given to bibliography.
