Garbage collector objektů jazyka PNtalk / Garbage Collector for PNtalk Objects

Mišák, Ján January 2016 (has links)
This thesis deals with the designing of a garbage collector for the PNtalk virtual machine. It describes and rates the approaches and algorithms for an automatic memory management. Four algorithm families ale presented: mark-sweep, mark-compact, copying algorithms and reference counting. At first it describes sequential forms, that pauses running of the main program (mutator), then it describes parallel and concurent forms, that do not pauses the mutator. The thesis also presents generational model of garbage collecting. The following sections briefly introduces object orientated Petri nets. The result of this thesis is the design of the generational garbage collector for the PNtalk virtual machine.

Literatura amerického Jihu a budování jižanské identity: Role jižanských autorů v posilování specifických kulturních hodnot / Building Southern Identity through Reading: The Role of the Works of Southern Writers in Promoting Specific Cultural Values

Beková, Tereza January 2016 (has links)
This thesis examines the relationship between Southern literature and socio-cultural realities of the Southern region of the United States of America. Analyzing works of five distinguished Southern writers, this thesis examines the reflection of specific Southern culture features in literature of the region in the period from the end of the American Civil War to the second half of the 20th century. The thesis oppose the opinion that the primary goal of Southern literature was to promote Southern identity and its cultural superiority above the North. The central hypothesis, that is being verified by this thesis, is that despite the indisputable contribution of highly recognized Southern writers to building of Southern identity, these authors expressed in their works also often sharp critiques of the social conditions in the South.

Oktober, Pedro Aden 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil (Old and New Testament. Bible Interpretation))--University of Stellenbosch, 2006. / This study deals with discipleship as a challenge to the church in the twenty first century, with the Gospel of Mark as a starting-point. Discipleship is after all the heart of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It embraces the whole of the church’s existence; identity and integrity. Evans (2001:30) exclaims: “To be a true disciple, one must accept the fate of the Master; and the Master’s fate is inextricably bound up with his identity, purpose, and mission. True Discipleship cannot emerge in isolation from true Christology.”

For the Bible tells me so? An explorative study of children's critical and theological ability to engage with the Bible, using a contextual Bible study, on the Widow's offering in Mark 12 as a case study.

Fabian, Alice Kathleen. January 2012 (has links)
The flat narratives presented in Children’s Bibles typify the assumption that children are incapable of engaging theologically and critically with the Biblical texts. The manner in which Biblical stories are told to children during their formative years can have negative repercussions as children perceive the Scriptures as static and irrelevant. By denying children the chance to explore the dynamic text, they will never discover the depth and potential of the life-giving message of the Bible and can become despondent with Christianity, perceiving it as immaterial as the Biblical narratives show no resemblance to reality. Developing a habit of blindly accepting Christian teachings can also develop a faith which allows unhealthy indoctrination and oppressive beliefs into the Christian’s life. This thesis explores what is necessary to enable and encourage children to critically and theologically engage with the Bible. Using the story of the Widow’s Offering in Mark 12 as an example, the traditional readings present in Children’s Bibles were compared to a critical reading of the text. A Contextual Bible Study was then conducted with two case studies from grade 1 and 4 at Scottsville Primary in order to determine whether children are able to critically and theologically engage with the concepts of Christian Humanism and textual criticism. The findings reveal that this is an important area of research that requires urgent further investigation. / Thesis (M.Th.)-University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, 2012.

Embedding population dynamics in mark-recapture models

Bishop, Jonathan R. B. January 2009 (has links)
Mark-recapture methods use repeated captures of individually identifiable animals to provide estimates of properties of populations. Different models allow estimates to be obtained for population size and rates of processes governing population dynamics. State-space models consist of two linked processes evolving simultaneously over time. The state process models the evolution of the true, but unknown, states of the population. The observation process relates observations on the population to these true states. Mark-recapture models specified within a state-space framework allow population dynamics models to be embedded in inference ensuring that estimated changes in the population are consistent with assumptions regarding the biology of the modelled population. This overcomes a limitation of current mark-recapture methods. Two alternative approaches are considered. The "conditional" approach conditions on known numbers of animals possessing capture history patterns including capture in the current time period. An animal's capture history determines its state; consequently, capture parameters appear in the state process rather than the observation process. There is no observation error in the model. Uncertainty occurs only through the numbers of animals not captured in the current time period. An "unconditional" approach is considered in which the capture histories are regarded as observations. Consequently, capture histories do not influence an animal's state and capture probability parameters appear in the observation process. Capture histories are considered a random realization of the stochastic observation process. This is more consistent with traditional mark-recapture methods. Development and implementation of particle filtering techniques for fitting these models under each approach are discussed. Simulation studies show reasonable performance for the unconditional approach and highlight problems with the conditional approach. Strengths and limitations of each approach are outlined, with reference to Soay sheep data analysis, and suggestions are presented for future analyses.

Hotton, Hélène 05 1900 (has links)
How did the motive of the Devil's Mark wend its way through the theological, legal and medical discourse at the end of the Renaissance to such a point that it became a critical component of the crime of witchcraft? Through what mechanisms and what belief systems did this idea of the Devil's Mark become so widely disseminated and greatly accepted among both the scholars and the general public? In a period marked by the Great Witch Hunt, as well as the development of scientific investigation, the fact that the scholars are interested in this strange semiotics is a very interesting starting point to address head-on the shift in boundaries that demonology brought about within these different fields of knowledge. The purpose of this thesis is to study the network of the epistemological mutations that shaped how the Devil's Mark emerged in French demonological knowledge between the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century. We will review how diabolical otherness gradually became internalized in the individuals' heart and soul under the increasingly powerful influence of empiricism, experimental method, and observation. We will analyze the rhetorical construction surrounding the Devil's Mark theory and relate it to the changes that took place in the intellectual platform of the Ancien Régime in order to shed light on the new classification that appeared between natural and supernatural facts, as well as on the rhetorical strategies used to report on them.

Selén, Niklas, Söderström, Tom January 2017 (has links)
When casting the slab in a slab-on-ground structure most of the drying will occur through the surface of the slab, which is in contact with the air. This will create a non-uniform internal moisture distribution. With the top of the slab drying faster it will also have a faster shrinkage due to drying, which in turn leads to stress in the surface layers of the slab as these wants to contract. With the slab wanting to assume a curled geometry, but being restricted by external loads and self-weight, cracks will usually appear in the surface (Lange, Lee & Liu, 2011).  A concrete slab-on-ground does not dehydrate the same way as, for example, floor bellows or wall elements which has the same climate on both sides. The ground beneath a heated building standing on a slab-on-ground structure is warm and moist with a relative moisture close to 100%. After carefully examining moisture damaged slab-on-ground structures it was concluded that the temperature and moisture behavior in this type of structure is more complicated than earlier presumed. In an attempt to broaden the basis of knowledge about humidity conditions under a concrete slab-on-ground structure, measurements were performed on an existing slab.  The Council for Construction Competence (Rådet för ByggKompetens, RBK) sets the industry standard regarding moisture measurement in Sweden. In 2017 the method recommended by RBK for moisture measurement in concrete includes drilling a hole in the slab, sealing it with a plastic pipe and mounting the sensor inside. This is the method that was used for measurements in this paper. Three different measurement locations in the slab along with two sensors mounted at every location was used to gather data.  The results from the measurements show that the relative humidity near the bottom of the slab is close to 100%. The results from the sensors range from 90% to 100% RH with the majority of the results very close to 100% RH. The results discovered in this paper supports the assumption that the ground beneath a slab-on-ground structure is close to 100% RH.

Disease and demography in the Woodchester Park badger population

McDonald, Jennifer Leslie January 2014 (has links)
The topic of badgers in the UK is often a contentious one, dividing opinions and sparking political debate. On one hand, badgers represent an important part of the British ecosystem but on the other a wildlife reservoir of disease implicated in the transmission of bovine tuberculosis (TB) to livestock in the UK. This has prompted strong interest in their population dynamics and epidemiology. Using data from a long-term study of a naturally infected badger population in Woodchester Park, Gloucestershire, this thesis explores a range of capture-mark-recapture (CMR) models to further understand disease and demographic processes. The first section examines long term population dynamics, simultaneously estimating demographic rates alongside their drivers using integrated population models (IPMs). The findings provide new insight into badger demography, highlighting density-dependent mechanisms, vulnerabilities to changing climate and disease prevalence and subsequently how multi-factorial analyses are required to explain fluctuating badger populations. The following sections use multistate models to answer pertinent questions regarding individual disease dynamics, revealing rates of TB infection, progression and disease-induced mortality. A key finding was sex-differences in disease response, with males more susceptible to TB infection. After applying a survival trajectory analysis we suggest sex differences are due to male immune defence deficiencies. A comparative analysis demonstrated similarities between epidemiological processes at Woodchester Park to an unconnected population of badgers from a vaccine study, supporting its continued use as a model population. The final study in this thesis constructs an IPM to estimate disease and population dynamics and in doing so uncovers disease-state recruitment allocation rates, demographic and population estimates of badgers in varying health-states and predicts future dynamics. This model aims to encapsulate the more commonly held notion of populations as dynamic entities with numerous co-occurring processes, opening up avenues for future analyses within both the badger-TB system and possible extensions to other wildlife reservoir populations.
