Music as The Between: The Idea of Meeting in Existence, Music and Education

As a violinist, teacher, and thinker, I am concerned to articulate the relevance of music to the lives of my audience, my students and myself. But my concern is not merely to describe the meanings that people experience when they engage music. Rather, I am interested in constituting the musical relevance that each of us must actualize as we work to make our lives vital and meaningful. Accordingly, in my study I articulate in philosophical, yet practical, terms, a particular attitude of musical engagement that I call meeting. Grounded in Martin Buber’s idea of human existence as I-Thou, my conception of meeting has a specific character. Each side of the meeting must meet itself in its work to constitute the adequacy of its engagement with the other as it must meet with the other in its work to constitute the adequacy of its engagement with itself. It follows that the essence of human meeting is not merely the “reality” – physical, cultural, intellectual – of people who come together. Rather, the essence is their self-critical thought that is created as they share their lives with each other. The focus, then, is not the meeting’s outcome but rather the meeting itself insofar as it constitutes mutual understanding, communication and love. Thus, at the heart of my study, I constitute music in the same way, not as a physical or cultural “reality,” but rather as the meeting between music and musical participant that demands that each – music and participant – attend to self and other. The idea that music’s whole being is meeting has profound implications for how we conceive of music education. Accordingly, the ultimate purpose of my study is to bring my ideas of musical meeting to bear upon how we teach and learn music in the classroom.

<p>Sjuksköterskans huvudsakliga uppgift är att förebygga smärta och att planera sitt arbete kring barnet så att de utsätts för minsta möjliga smärta. Faktorer som påverkar sjuksköterskan i detta är erfarenhet och personlighet.</p><p>Syftet med studien var att beskriva hur sjuksköterskor bemöter och hanterar barn med smärta inom primärvård. Den metod som valts för denna studie är en kvalitativ innehållsanalys. Resultaten i studien grundar sig på tio intervjuundersökningar utförda på sjuksköterskor inom primärvård. Resultaten visade hur sjuksköterskan inom primärvård bemöter och hanterar barn med smärta. Sjuksköterskans roll är viktig och betydelsefull vid mötet med barn med smärta. För att uppnå optimal omvårdnad är det viktigt att sjuksköterskan själv har ett lugn och ett professionellt förhållningssätt. Grundläggande är även att sjuksköterskan tar barnets smärta på allvar och lyssnar på barnet.</p><p>Sammanfattningsvis har studien visat hur sjuksköterskan inom primärvård idag bemöter barn med smärta samt vilken smärtlindring och vilka smärtlindringsmetoder som används.</p> / <p>The primary task for the nurse is to prevent pain and organize the work around the child and in that way expose the child for minimum amount of pain. Personality and experience are factors that influence the nurse in this task.</p><p>The purpose of the study was to describe the way nurses receive and handle children in pain in the primary health care. The authors found the chosen method adequate and useful. The result is based on ten interviews performed with nurses working in the primary health care. The result shows in which way nurses in primary health care receives and handles children in pain. The occupational role the nurse has is both important and significant in the meeting with children in pain. To achieve optimal care it is of great importance that the nurse has composure by herself and a professional way of working. It is also fundamental that the nurse take the child’s pain seriously and listen to the child.</p><p>Summarized the study shows in which way the nurse in primary health care nowadays receives children in pain, which alleviation of pain and methods that are in use.</p>

A presente Dissertação propôs a interação - por meio da criação artística - entre dois grupos de crianças, residentes em Porto Alegre-RS e Cumuruxatiba-BA. A pesquisa de campo consistiu na realização de 12 encontros em Porto Alegre e 10 encontros em Cumuruxatiba realizados entre os meses de junho a dezembro de 2014. O estudo buscou compreender as visões que as crianças produziram sobre si e sobre o outro a partir da correspondência estabelecida pelos grupos. Neste contexto, o principal objetivo do trabalho constou em analisar as possibilidades de criação e de invenção de si mesmo na interação com crianças de um contexto distante. Esta pesquisa discute o deslocamento e o encontro com a alteridade como proposições metodológicas no ensino da arte. Problematizam-se neste trabalho os conceitos de alteridade e deslocamento a partir de Bakthin, Foucault e Onfray; o conceito de infância a partir de Larrosa, Kristeva e Kohan e as proposições artísticas de caráter colaborativo a partir de Bourriaud e Laddaga. Como eixo metodológico, apresenta projetos e obras de artistas e educadores contemporâneos. Dentre os elementos centrais de análise, estão a relação de alteridade e estranhamento a partir da qual as crianças modificam a relação de si para si mesmo e de si para o outro por meio do olhar. A partir destes elementos a experiência estética é apresentada como meio de reconstrução do entendimento do outro. / This Dissertation proposed interaction - through artistic creation - between two groups of children, one living in Porto Alegre-RS and the other living in Cumuruxatiba, Bahia. Invalidity, nullity and ineffectiveness of a resolution of general meeting and other bodies of a limited company Abstract This Master's thesis deals with the issue of invalidity of the resolutions of the general meeting of capital companies in the applicable private law of the Czech Republic. The introduction of this Master's thesis covers the historical development of legislation concerning the general regulation of the limited liability company and the joint stock company with a certain focus on good morals and the invalidity of the resolutions of the general meeting of the capital companies in the territory of the Czechoslovak Republic and its successor state departments. Chapter on the legal nature of the resolutions of the general meeting follows on from this historical definition. Similarly as in the case of historical development, legal nature of the resolutions of general meeting is first addressed in historical context, more specifically before the year 2014. The purpose of this analysis is to define the basic theoretical assumptions, which are also applicable to the legal nature of the resolutions of the general meeting at the time of applicability of the Civil Code and the Business Corporations Act. The influence of digital distraction on cognitive load, attention conflict and meeting productivity

Background Meetings are important for organisational functioning and the co-ordination of people, tasks and processes, and an everyday reality of organisational life. As mobile communication technology, such as smart phones, tablets and laptops gets smaller and more powerful, these devices have become more pervasive in every aspect of personal and work life. Increasingly, organisations allow mobile devices to be used during meetings in an effort to be more efficient and save time. However, for a meeting to achieve the desired meeting outcomes, those that participate in the meeting need be actively engaged and focused. It is widely accepted though that mobile communication technology is distracting and can easily draw away one’s focus. This begs the question then as to whether employees should in fact be able to use mobile devices in meetings, or not. Rationale for the research study Research into the effect of mobile communication technology as a source of digital distraction on meeting performance, given individual differences in cognitive processing, is limited. Moreover, no experimental studies could be found that have investigated these relationships. It is hoped that the results of the present study will address the gap that was identified in the literature, as well as provide a useful practical contribution for organisations. The findings of the present study may further be used to inform organisation policy and practice concerning the use of mobile communication technology in meetings. Aim of the research study The aim of the present study was to investigate if the presence of digital distraction in meetings, i.e. the presence of mobile communication technology or mobile devices significantly negatively influences selected cognitive processes (i.e. cognitive load and attention conflict) and ultimately meeting performance (assessed as the time it takes to make a decision; as well as the number and quality of decisions made). Research design and method A two-group post-test only, quasi-experimental research method was utilised to investigate the causal effect of the presence of digital distraction on selected aspects of cognitive processing and meeting performance. For an experiment to be valid, no systematic bias should exist in the comparison groups before the manipulation or intervention, otherwise, one would not be able to deduce that any difference that is observed after the manipulation or intervention was due to the manipulation or intervention. Therefore, to ensure that two equivalent treatment groups were available, individuals were randomly assigned to two meetings. The composition of the two groups was then assessed using the demographic variables that were collected and were not found to be significantly different from one another. The average level concentration performance or attentiveness was also measured and not found to be significantly different. This suggests that the average level of distractibility was the same for the two groups. Two equivalent meetings were held with only the availability of mobile communication technology being different between the meetings (i.e. mobile devices were present and used during the meeting or not). After the meetings were concluded, respondents were asked to complete an online questionnaire that consisted of closed- and openended questions designed to measure the concentration performance, cognitive load and attention conflict constructs. Meeting performance was further evaluated by two independent subject matter experts using a decision-rating scale. Sampling and sample As meetings in organisations was the focus, the study targeted employed individuals, a convenient sample of employees were obtained (n=15) that were randomly assigned to one of two participant groups in two separate meetings. Results The inferential data analyses revealed that cognitive load and attention conflict were both statistically significantly higher in the meeting in which the use of mobile devices were available and used, compared to the meeting in which mobile devices were not present. Moreover, it was found that meeting performance was lower in the meetingwhere mobile communication technology was present. The members of the two meetings made a similar number of decisions, which the independent assessors rated as being of similar quality, however, the group in which mobile communication technology was available took 30 per cent longer (120 versus 90 mins) to come to a similar outcome. Findings The results of the present research study suggest that the presence of digital distraction placed significant (additional) demands on the cognitive processing of individuals, who in meetings are required to fulfil cognitive decision-making tasks. As a direct or indirect result, the presence of digital distractions had a marked negative impact on meeting performance and productivity. Based on the findings, it is argued that restricting digital distractions in meetings can greatly reduce the time spent in meetings, while still achieving desired meetings outcomes. Meetings are essential to effective organisational management and coordination but are also resource intensive with managers spending substantial amounts of their available work time in meetings. Organisations operating in resource constrained environments need to be increasingly efficient in their use of scarce resources and, arguably, time is the most precious resource of all. Managerial Implications Based on the findings of the present study, it is recommended that unless mobile communication devices are required to achieve meeting outcomes, managers should declare meetings as technology free zones. Doing so may lead to shorter more productive meetings giving those that often attend meetings more time to attend to other matters.

AI Meeting Monitoring

During the COVID-19 pandemic the questions of the efficiency around meetings has been in the forefront of some discussion inside companies. One way to measure efficiency is to measure the interactivity between different participants. In order to measure this the participants need to be identified. With the recent spike of Machine learning advancements, is this something that can be done using facial and voice recognition? Another field that has risen to the top is cloud computing. Can machine learning and cloud computing be used to evaluate and monitor a meeting, thus handling both audio and video streams in a real time environment? The conclusion of this thesis is that Artificial Intelligence(AI) can be used to monitor a meeting. To be able to do so Amazon Web Service (AWS) can be utilized. The choice of using a DeepLens was however not best choice. A hardware like DeepLens is required, but with better integration with cloud computing, as well with more freedom regarding the usage of several models for handling both feeds. With the usage of other models to automatic annotate data the time needed for training a new model can be reduced. The data generated during a single meeting is enough with the help of transfer learning from Amazon web service to build a model for facial identification and detection.
