Tool support for social risk mitigation in agile projects

Licorish, Sherlock Anthony Unknown Date (has links)
Software engineering techniques have been employed for many years to guide software product creation. In the last decade the appropriateness of many techniques has been questioned, given unacceptably high rates of software project failure. In light of this, there have emerged a new set of agile software development methodologies aimed at reducing software projects risks, on the basis that this will improve the likelihood of achieving software project success. Recent studies show that agile methods have been gaining increasing industry attention. However, while the practices recommended by agile methodologies are said to reduce risks, there exists little evidence to verify this position. In addition, it is posited that the very processes recommended by agile methodologies may themselves introduce other risks. Consequently, this study addresses the risks inherent in the human collaboration practices that are central to agile methods. An analysis of the risk management literature reveals that personality conflicts and customer-developer disagreements are social risks that occur through human collaboration. These risks negatively affect team cohesion and software project success. Personality conflicts are said to be mostly influenced through poor team formation, whereas customer-developer disagreements are induced through excessive customer direct interaction. However, these risks are not adequately addressed by standard risk management theories. Furthermore, an evaluation reveals that these risks are also not considered by existing software tools. This study therefore designs and implements a web-based solution to lessen the social risks that may arise in agile projects. The Agile Social-Risk Mitigation Tool (ASRMT) offers support for personnel capability assessment and management and for remote customer feature management, extending the customer's access through an interface. Using software engineering experts to evaluate ASRMT, the tool is shown to effectively address social risk management theories, and is considered likely to assist agile developers in their handling of social risks. In addition, above and beyond its intended purpose, ASRMT is also likely to assist agile teams with general project management. The findings of the ASRMT user evaluations demonstrate sufficient proof of concept to suggest that such a tool could have value in live software projects.

Change Management, kombinerat metodstöd vid uppgradering av ett dokumenthanteringssystem / Change Management, combined method support when upgrading a document management system

Johansson, Katarina January 2015 (has links)
Aim: The aim of the study has been to find tools to identify aspects that need to be observed and considered in change projects aimed at optimizing and adapting e.g. a document management system.   Method: A new method (COMBO) has been developed to highlight those characteristics that should be reflected and considered to ensure successful working procedures when optimizing and customizing an upgrade of e.g. a document management system. The method is based on theory, an empirical case study and existing methods. Data collection is based on both secondary data and primary data. The empirical data is mainly based on a case study and my personal experience of this. The approach has been mainly qualitative (understanding and getting close to people's thoughts or behavior), and my conclusions are based both on induction (empiricism) and deduction (logical reasoning).   Result and Analysis: By focusing on the concepts of ”Communication”, ”Direct” and ”Relationship building”, according to the methods and theories used, Change Management will become successful and risk reduced, while counteracting ”Confusion”, ”Sabotage”, ”Anxiety” and ”Resistance”.   Conclusions: The objective was achieved and realized with the help of theories, methods and empirical case study was structured on the same principle. This enabled the development of COMBO method that became a tool to visualize several characteristics that are important to consider in change management. These characteristics emerged in the method as "risks" and "accumulated risks" and were dependent on which stage of the change process that is analyzed.   Suggestions for further work: It would be interesting to further test the COMBO method to find out if it can be applied to other applications and scenarios.   It would also be interesting to develop the COMBO method itself, either by refining the issue, and thereby getting more targeted input, or by developing calculations and functions to get more precise results. Implementing the COMBO method in a database using user-friendly forms would also be preferable.   Another suggestion for further work is to combine and develop other methods to see if they can be made to interact and reinforce certain characteristics in the data analysis.

O tutorial (Mentoring) na formação do enfermeiro / The tutorial (Mentoring) in nursing education

Rodrigues, Ana Paula Rebelo Aquino 10 April 2014 (has links)
Nowadays several nursing courses are seeking innovative pedagogical alternatives that can consolidate an education which is more coherent with the desired professional profile for everyday life in health services. One of the alternatives adopted by nursing schools in the country is the methodology known as Tutorial. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the use of the tutorial as learning methodology for nursing education, verify student satisfaction regarding its use and identify the role of tutorial methodology on the construction of student’s critical stance in relation to the reality of health sector. As the tutorial is a student centered methodology where the teacher’s role is to guide them on the development of their professional career and personal life, the study has begun on the hypothesis that the tutorial leads to a meaningful learning, which stimulates the learning process and the student ability to meddle in the reality of the health system in which they are inserted. This was a case study with quantitative and qualitative methodological approach (mixed method). The research’s subjects were students of the second and fifth year of the nursing school at the University of Health Sciences of Alagoas. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and a problem situation for the student to analyze and narrate their intervention. The answers to the questions were analyzed by Kruskal Wallis non-parametric test with a confidence interval of 95 % (p≤ 0.05) and the problem situation was investigated using content analysis. The results of both analyzes showed that the methodology of the tutorial has the potential to promote the development of a more critical and reflective capacity of the student. However, it is possible to suggest that with the suspension of monitoring due to changes of subjects, or the accumulation of activities throughout the course, students appear to be in process of disengagement, because although they know what must be done, they do not deepen and do not seem to translate into reality.

Pivetta, Luiz Alberto do Canto January 2018 (has links)
The sequential arts (AS) or graphic narratives (NG) are a modality of hybrid modality (multimodal) composed of image and word. Throughout its history, NG has faced several challenges in academia and in the market, and although it is a subject of complex multidisciplinarity, it has little research in the visual design field, that has ample knowledge in design methodologies and characteristics intrinsically multidisciplinary, as well as technical expertise in visual communication. This research seeks to analyze the methodological principles of visual design and the process of production of graphic narratives, making a step by step analysis of selected methodologies in the areas of General Design (MUNARI, 2008; BAXTER, 1995), Visual Design (FUENTES, 2006; DENARDI E GERALDES, 2016; MAYA, FRANCESCHI E NEROSKY, 2016; HALUCH, 2013), Narratives (BEREITER E SCARDAMALIA, 1987; INGERMAN, 2014) and Graphic Narratives (LARSON, 2014; SALERNO, 2011; MOORE, 2003; BYRNE, 1999; MATEU-MESTRE, 2010). Using bibliographic research on visual design, image, visual language, narratives and graphic narratives as the basis for the construction of theoretical knowledge, the steps are segmented in phases, using as base the generalist design methodologies, showing that there are benefits for the professional producers of NG to use the Visual Design methodologies as the design backbone for NG production.

This current investigation is linked with the Childhood and Education research of the graduate course program in Education – mastering course of the Science and Technology College – FCT/UNESP – and its goals are to investigate the affection conceptions – emotion, feeling and passion – of teachers of a collegiate daycare center, and identify how they deal with children affectionate behaviors, trying to give visibility to the educational methodologies which contribute to the children development. According to Wallon’s theory, the affection is an interactive procedure between organic and social matters, which allows human beings to affect and be affected by the events; dealt as a functional dominion, that, joint with cognition and the motility, compose a person as a whole, being able to express initially by well-being or indisposition, later, by the emotions, feelings and passion. For the achievement of this research, that is characterized as a qualitative case study, as an ethnography type, the following methodology were chosen: bibliographic research; documentary analysis; observation and semi structured interview, making it possible to organize the data in five different analysis category: “affective and relational dimension – theory”; “affective and relational dimension in relation to the methodology”; “affectionate routine”; “emotional behaviors”; and “interactions between child and child”. By the documentary analysis, it was realized that the affective and relational dimension is considered, in the documents analysed (National Policy on Early Childhood Education – the right of children zero to six years of education... Transnational migrant media: A study of South Florida Haitian Radio

Eugene, Emmanuel 15 June 1998 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine the role of South Florida Haitian migrant radio with regard to its listeners' relations across national borders. The content of several commercials and announcements was analyzed. Different actors--especially broadcasters and Haiti's state and government officials--were found to use the medium to carry out at least one of the following instrumental processes: linking listeners across borders, deterritorialized nation-state building, transnational migrants' politics in the "host" country, and deterritorialization of the "local." The findings demonstrated that South Florida Haitian migrant radio operates in transnational social fields. It is recommended that researchers take a transnational approach to migrant media.

A Diné Conceptualization of Global Climate Change: An Application of a Diné Research Methodology

January 2015 (has links)
abstract: This study questioned how the Navajo Nation was going to mitigate and/or adapt to Global Climate Change. By employing a Diné philosophy based research methodology this study seeks to holistically reframe the lens that the Navajo Nation conceptualizes Global Climate Change. The study uses a comprehensive review of literature that pertained to four research questions. The research questions are: 1) What do Diné oral histories say about climate change? 2) How is the Navajo Nation going to mitigate and adapt to changes to the climate using Western knowledge? 3) How can Diné research methodologies help inform policies that will mitigate and adapt to climate change? 4) What type of actions and frameworks can the Navajo Nation use to generate meaningful policy? The study utilizes a Diné philosophy based analytical framework to focus on how climate change will affect the Diné peoples' A) spirituality, B) economic sustainability, C) family-community, and D) home-environment. The findings are: a) the Navajo spiritual ceremonies are process models that can be used to mitigate and/or adapt to climate change, and they must continue to be practiced. b) The economic development section revealed that economic security is not found solely in resource development, but in the security of ceremonial knowledge. The burden of the Navajo government however, is not to promote labor, but the ability for people to live into old age. c) Because families and communities drive Diné philosophy, Diné families and communities must remember how to treat each other with respect. The collective survival of the Navajo Nation always depended on this teaching. d) The findings of the home-environment section is that Diné have to acknowledge that their lives are fragile in the face of global climate change, and the only way that they can live happily is to trust the power of the stories of the ancestors, and seek to embody the Diné philosophy. This study succeeded as an honest attempt to apply an Indigenous Diné methodology to reframe Global Climate Change into a phenomenon that is survivable. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis Liberal Studies 2015
