In this research study, the correlation between culture and gospel is investigated by examining changes in the interpretation of the cross of Christ from Early Christianity up to present times, using the method of paradigmatic analysis designed by David J. Bosch. Following the concept of the Missio Dei within mission theology, this study aims to find a perspective on the event of the cross which is relevant for today's practice. With reference to the topics of cultural context, sin, sacrifice, vicariousness, cross and mission, this study shows that in every paradigm the diverse perspectives of the interpretation of Jesus' death were explicable and helpful within their relevant contexts. It can also be seen that in its objectives, message and practice, mission correlates with the respective motifs prevalent at the time. In conclusion, after determining the proper place of the results within the concept of Missio Dei in mission theology, the study examines the relevance of these results for the Missio Christi, in order to offer a contribution to the debate and a potential perspective for explaining the significance of Jesus' death in the current German-speaking cultural context. / Christian Spirituality, Church History & Missiology / M. German text / Das Ziel dieser Masterarbeit ist, das gesellschaftlich aktuelle Thema der Inklusion in einen missionstheologischen Kontext einzuordnen und Folgerungen für die kirchliche Praxis zu ziehen. In einem ersten Schritt wird der interdisziplinäre Forschungstand zum Thema Exklusion und Inklusion in Deutschland diskutiert sowie dargestellt wie komplex und schwierig überwindbar Exklusion ist. In der biblisch-theologischen Einordnung wird aufgezeigt, dass die inhaltliche Ausrichtung der aktuellen „Inklusionsdebatte“ in biblischen Texten und Motiven wiederzufinden ist und Jesus im Neuen Testament ein Beispiel für Inklusion gegeben hat. Inklusion wird dabei als Konzept zur Transformation gesellschaftlicher Bezüge und Strukturen verstanden, mit dem Ziel Exklusion zu verhindern und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe zu ermöglichen. Zur theologischen Reflexion und Einordnung dieses Themenkomplexes werden die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse missionstheologisch ausgewertet und Überschneidungen mit weiteren biblischtheologischen und missionstheologischen Konzepten dargestellt. Auf diesem Fundament werden abschließend Ansätze entwickelt, wie Inklusion heute in Kirche und Mission praktisch verortet werden kann. / This dissertation aims at relating the societal issue of inclusion into the context of a theology of mission. It asks which conclusions can be drawn for church life. Firstly, the interdisciplinary state of research on exclusion and inclusion is discussed within a German context. It is shown how complex exclusion is and how difficult to overcome. Biblical contrasting shows that the current topical focus of inclusion is found in biblical texts and motifs and that Jesus has set an example for inclusion. Here, ‘inclusion’ is understood as transforming structures and societal relations to prevent exclusion and enable partaking in social life. Theological reflection and justification are achieved by analysing the results from a theology of mission’s perspective and identifying shared grounds to other theological concepts and ones from a theology of mission. Summary in German and English / Die Arbeit untersucht aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive, wie das christliche Profil der (Gemeinwesen-) Diakonie dargestellt wird, welche Herausforderungen sich daraus ergeben und in welchem Bezug Mission dazu steht. Hierzu dienen die geschichtlichen Entwicklungen von Diakonie und Mission innerhalb Deutschlands und die Ausführung des ganzheitlichen Missionsverständnisses nach David J. Bosch als Grundlage. Die Arbeit zeigt, dass in der Verbindung von Theologie, Diakonie und der Sozialen Arbeit wesentliche Grundannahmen und -spannungen gegeben sind, die Parallelen zur Missionstheologie aufzeigen, welche aber nicht als ‚Mission’ benannt oder anerkannt werden.Das Ergebnis dieser Forschungsarbeit lautet, dass die missionarisch ganzheitlich verstandene Gemeinwesendiakonie einen Ausweg aus der mangelnden Praxisrelevanz theologischer Leitbilder darstellt und somit einen Beitrag zur Stärkung des christlichen Profils diakonischer Einrichtungen liefern kann. / Using an interdisciplinary perspective, this piece of work examines how the Christian profile of diaconal community work is portrayed, the challenges that emerge and how missionary work relates to the debate. The historical developments of social work and missionary work in Germany, as well as David J. Bosch’s holistic understanding of mission serve as a foundation for the analysis. The study will show that the relationship between theology, diaconal community work and social work reveals major assumptions and tensions which show parallel elements to a theology of mission but are not named or acknowledged as such. The conclusion of this study will state that diaconal community work, understood as holistic mission, can offer a solution to the decreasing relevance of theological mission statements and therefore contribute to strengthening the Christian profile of diaconal institutions. / Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology / M. Dafür beschreibt und vergleicht sie drei relevante Perspektiven afrikanischen Ursprungs, um das noch wenig untersuchte Phänomen wissenschaftlich zu fassen. Anschließend wer-den die Ergebnisse missionswissenschaftlich gedeutet und die Rezeption des Phänomens in der deutschsprachigen Theologie und in der deutschen kirchlichen Landschaft unter-sucht. So wird identifiziert, welche Aspekte des internationalen Diskurses in Deutschland besondere Beachtung finden und welche missionstheologischen Positionen dazu vertre-ten werden. Davon ausgehend werden Perspektiven und Desiderate auf dem Weg zu einer multikulturellen Missionsbewegung benannt. / The study describes and reflects a phenomenon of African Missions to Europe, which is often called “reverse mission”, from a missiological perspective. For this purpose it describes and compares three relevant Africanrooted perspectives in order to catch this not jet well researched phenomenon. The results are interpreted missiological and the reception of the phenomenon in German speaking theology and in German churches is researched in order to identify, which aspects of the international discourse are attracting special interest in Germany and which missiological views are advanced. Text in German, with German and English summaries / As a regionally-led church-body the German Seventh-day Adventist church (SDA) has nonetheless the unanimously agreed goal of spreading the gospel in the whole republic. The different regional administrative bodies however, have not consistently or nationally documented their evangelistic efforts. It is therefore the aim of this study to understand the theology of SDA mission between 1992 and 2005. Commencing in 1875, with the first overseas missionary's arrival, the mission theology of the German SDA-Church will be roughly sketched through 1990. The following enquiry deals primarily with the various levels of SDA-leadership, with Adventist print media, institutional work and special mission-conceived events. Generally, statements concerning missiology will be studied with regard to their content and meaning. In particular cases quantitative data will be considered and evaluated. This will lead to fundamental data, apt to answer the following questions: - How do Adventists define the term mission? - Do German Adventists dispose of missionary concepts or an overarching mission strategy? - Do they take up the challenge of self-reflection concerning their mission in order to enhance success? The individual objects and questions studied in this thesis are structured to be evaluated at the end of each chapter. Questions raised will be attempted to be answered satisfactorily. The result of this study is the unveiling of several strengths and weaknesses of the Adventist understanding of mission in Germany. It is therefore the goal of this study to enhance further discussion by pointing to relevant facts. Initial starting points could be seen in the conclusions drawn, thereby rendering mission efforts of the German SDA church more effective. / Die Freikirche der Siebenten-Tags-Adventisten in Deutschland ist keine zentral gefuhrte Kirche. Sie hat aber das ubergreifende Ziel den eigenen Glauben in der ganzen Republik zu verkundigen. Verwaltungstechnisch gliedert sie sich in verschiedene Bereiche und Ebenen, die allerdings keine einheitliche Dokumentation ihres missionarischen Engagements vorhalten. Forschungsgegenstand dieser Arbeit ist deshalb das missionstheologische Verstandnis der Siebenten-Tags-Adventisten (STA) in der Zeit zwischen 1992 mid 2005. Ausgehend von 1875, dem Jahr der Arbeitsaufhahme adventistischer Missionare in Deutschland, wird das Missionsverstandnis der deutschen STA uberblickartig bis ins Jahr 1990 skizziert. Die sich anschlieBende Untersuchung befasst sich mit den verschiedenen Leitungsebenen der STA, mit den adventistischen Printmedien und Institutionen sowie am Thema Mission ausgerichteten konzeptionell arbeitenden Sonderveranstaltungen. Im Einzelnen werden die jeweiligen Aussagen zur Mission auf ihre inhaltliche Ausuchtung und Bedeutung hin untersucht, in ausgewahlten Fallen werden auch quantitative Daten einbezogen und ausgewertet. Dadurch entsteht ein grundlegender Datensatz, der es erlaubt, nachstehende Frage zu beantworten: Wie verstehen die STA den Begriff Mission? Verfugen die STA in Deutschland uber missionarische Konzepte oder eine ubergreifende Missionsstrategie? - Stellen sich die STA der Aufgabe der Selbstreflexion, um ihre Missionsanstrengungen zu verbessern? Die vorliegende Arbeit ist so angelegt, dass die jeweiligen Untersuchungsebenen und -gegenstande am Ende des entsprechenden Kapitels einer Beweitung unterzogen werden, sodass die aufgeworfenen Fragen gesichert beantwortet werden konnen. Als Ergebnis der Untersuchung zeigen sich Starken und Schwachen des adventistischen Umgangs mit dem Thema Mission in Deutschland. Ziel dieser Albeit ist es deshalb, durch Benennung von Fakten zu einer weiterfuhrenden Diskussion anzuregen.
