Hoveyda / In the course of a total synthesis of quebrachamine, we were faced with a late-stage enantioselective ring-closing metathesis that could not be promoted by any of the state-of-the-art chiral metathesis catalysts. To overcome this deficiency, we designed and developed a new class of catalysts based on mechanistic and theoretical principles. The new catalysts contain a stereogenic metal center and display unprecedented levels of reactivity and selectivity in enantioselective olefin metathesis, enabling us to complete our planned synthesis of quebrachamine. We have also discovered that non-productive metathesis reactions with stereogenic-at-Mo catalysts, generated and used in situ as a mixture of diastereomers, are crucial to the efficiency and enantioselectivity of the ring-closing metathesis reactions. Specifically, our studies have indicated that the two diastereomers of catalyst are in rapid equilibrium due to non-productive metathesis with ethylene, generated as the desired ring-closing reaction proceeds, thereby establishing a reaction manifold that is under Curtin-Hammett control. Finally, in our efforts to prepare air-stable precursors to stereogenic-at-Mo olefin metathesis catalysts, we have examined the addition of N,N-chelating ligands to Mo bis-pyrrolide complexes. Upon addition of 2,2′-bipyridyl to bis-dimethylpyrrolide Mo complexes, rather than the expected octahedral chelate, a five-coordinate monopyrrolide alkylidyne complex is generated. The complex displays good air-stability and efficiently serves as a precursor to stereogenic-at-Mo alkylidene catalysts; several alkylidyne complexes have been prepared. / Thesis (PhD) — Boston College, 2010. / Submitted to: Boston College. The development of this research is anchored in two main axes, which are, the South-South Cooperation (SSC) and the operation of Brazilian companies in Africa, specially Angola and Mozambique that are two countries with Portuguese as official language used for the deepening of this research. This article studies of international projection of Brazil to Africa, mainly in Angola and Mozambique, what is a result of technical cooperation and the performance of companies. The main results found in this research, are two: first, that Brazil ? in the SSC scope - implemented extremely important projects for the socioeconomic development of those two African countries. On the other side, the performance of Brazilian companies in those countries, even though they represent some positive economic impact, do not always corroborate with the expectations launched by the political and diplomatic discourse that concern with the establishment of a good image of Brazil in the African continent. This research was developed based on bibliographic and documental sources, besides the investigative journalism. / Esta disserta??o analisa a evolu??o da pol?tica externa brasileira de coopera??o internacional do Brasil para a ?frica no per?odo de 2003 a 2010, compreendendo as raz?es que estimularam esse processo. O desenvolvimento deste trabalho est? ancorado em dois principais eixos, a Coopera??o Sul-Sul (CSS) e a atua??o das empresas brasileiras na ?frica, especialmente em Angola e Mo?ambique, que s?o dois pa?ses africanos de l?ngua oficial portuguesa delimitados para aprofundamento deste estudo. A obra estuda a proje??o internacional do Brasil para a ?frica, principalmente em Angola e Mo?ambique, que resulta de coopera??o t?cnica e atua??o das empresas. Os principais resultados a que chegamos, com esta pesquisa, s?o dois: primeiramente, que o Brasil - no ?mbito da CSS ? implementou projetos extremamente importantes para o desenvolvimento socioecon?mico dos dois pa?ses africanos estudados. E, por outro lado, a atua??o das empresas brasileiras nesses pa?ses, ainda que representem algum impacto econ?mico positivo, nem sempre corroboram as expectativas lan?adas pelo discurso pol?tico diplom?tico que dizem respeito ao estabelecimento de uma boa imagem do Brasil no continente africano. Esta pesquisa foi desenvolvida com base em fontes bibliogr?ficas e documentais, al?m de consulta a sites de jornalismo investigativo.

Samora Machel, a charismatic man who led the movement at the time, became the first Mozambican president. The policies implemented were in line with a national construction project that sought to spread a "New Man" in the country, which, in contrast to ethnic diversity, get rid of all the traditional and colonial past in favor of moderns and socialists values. Among these policies was the creation of the National Film Institute, which nationalized the whole production, exhibition and distribution of films, so that the film industry came into existence according to the objectives outlined by the party. Among his productions was the newsreel Kuxa Kanema. Between 1978 and 1979, in its first phase, this newsreel constructed a narrative that linked the image of Samora Machel to the construction of socialism in the country and a great "internationalist" cooperation. Already in 1981, in the second phase, when Mozambique was in a big economic crisis, with a civil war of increasing proportions, and realized that the support of the socialist countries was insufficient to deal with the situation, the constructed narrative came to emphasize the nationalist values, the fight against the "undesirables" and the great leadership of Samora Machel. / Ap?s dez anos de guerra contra o regime colonial portugu?s, em 25 de junho de 1975 aconteceu a descoloniza??o de Mo?ambique, e a Frente de Liberta??o de Mo?ambique (FRELIMO) tornou-se partido ?nico do pa?s. Samora Machel, uma figura carism?tica que liderava o movimento ? ?poca, tornou-se ent?o o primeiro presidente mo?ambicano. As pol?ticas implantadas estiveram de acordo com um projeto de constru??o nacional que buscava difundir um ?Homem Novo? no pa?s, que, para al?m da diversidade ?tnica, desvinculava-se de todo o passado tradicional e colonial em favor de valores modernos e socialistas. Entre essas pol?ticas, esteve a cria??o do Instituto Nacional de Cinema (INC), que nacionalizou toda a produ??o, exibi??o e distribui??o de filmes, de modo que a ind?stria cinematogr?fica passou a existir conforme os objetivos tra?ados pelo partido. Entre suas produ??es esteve o cinejornal Kuxa Kanema. Entre 1978 e 1979, em sua primeira fase, esse cinejornal construiu uma narrativa que vinculava a imagem de Samora Machel ? constru??o do socialismo no pa?s e a uma grande coopera??o ?internacionalista?. We deposited CuInSe2 or CuIn1-xGaxSe2 on the substrate of bi-layer Mo by electrodeposition. Besides, we deposited bi-layer Mo by RF sputtering on soda-lime glass. First, we discussed the characteristic of Mo metal, and how can we have a good adhesion and a low resistivity simultaneously. Then, we deposited CuInSe2 and CuIn1-xGaxSe2 thin film by electrodeposition, and discussed the effect of depositing time, pH value in depositing solution, depositing current and different concentration ions respectively.

Mo Yan has become a well-known writer for his legendary style of novels within the past two decades. In 1988, the Chinese film, Red Sorghum, adapted from Mo Yan¡¦s novel, won the Golden Bear Prize in the 38th Berlin International Film Festival. Therefore, not only the film but also the original novel drew a lot of international attention. Mo Yan presents his charisma in multiple aspects of his novels due to his unique personal experience. First, he applied many colloquial materials as elements of folk literature in his novels. For instance, proverbs, legends, and ballads are commonly quoted in his writings. In addition, during his voluntary military service, he did have the experience to take part in composing a piece of Cat Tune, also known as Maoqiang, a local traditional Chinese Opera in Shandong Province. Second, Mo Yan has a spontaneous talent for story telling mainly passed down from his grandparents, the Chinese classic Zhanghuiti-Style Novels, and the translated literatures of world masterpieces. Third, his belief in insisting on writing as the general populace rather than writing for it has made him a spokesperson of the common people even though this is quite against others¡¦ points-of-view. This thesis aims to verify what those components of folklore in Mo Yan¡¦s novels are and whether they are highly agree with his belief or not. The whole text is divided into five chapters and emphasizes on analyzing the materials of folklore listed in categories. In addition, an introduction to Literature of the New Era is included.
