The presence of smartphones in contemporary society has great consequences on several instances, changing the way the public relates with media and its products. Journalism, which throughout its history has passed through numerous changes, is been affected by mobile devices, in what would be the main ‘revolution’ on journalism since internet has become accessible to a considerable public, in the end of the 90’s. Right now, mobile applications, softwares developed mainly for smartphones and tablets users, become the main expression of journalism on portable digital devices. To understand how journalism presents itself on mobility, identifying its main characteristics and interactive features, which can stimulate or make the public participation possible, is the objective of such dissertation. To do so, we are using the theoretical perspective of materialities of communication, following the works of Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht. Throughout the study, we present some concepts developed by the german theorist, besides a brief history of the telephone as a media and a short discussion about the place of mobility in contemporary society. To identify mobile journalism characteristics, we analyzed several mobile apps from brazilians and international newspaper, aiming to identify and present interactives features in such products.

This research aims to understand the reconfigurations of the newspaper related to mobility, con-sidering its characteristics on multiple platforms and the aspects of mobility perceived on this prod-uct on paper, desktop, notebook, mobile phone, kindle, smartphone, tablet and smart watch. Its specific objectives are: (1) to discuss the journalism reconfigurations on a journalistic convergence scenario; (2) to identify the newspaper characteristics through the historical characterization of this product on the analyzed multiple platforms; (3) to map the aspects of mobility which can be per-ceived through the identified characteristics of the newspapers on the analyzed multiple platforms; (4) to reflect on which way those characteristics of the newspapers identified on multiple platforms and the mapped mobility aspects can be related to the journalism reconfigurations on the context of convergence. The study has a qualitative approach and the methodological procedures involved bibliographical and documental research. We’ve adopted the Zero Hora newspaper as empirical ob-ject of exemplary character, so it was possible to tension what was discussed with the theoretical framework constructed. By taking the newspaper as a device, we’ve evaluated press, cyber and multi-platform papers in relation to the journalistic convergence sphere (corporative, professional, pub-lic, editorial, technological); considering the form specificities (constitution, configuration, appearance); and the platforms (periodicity, structure, layers, surface, modal resources). Summarizing our evaluation, nine aspects of mobility on the newspaper device were proposed: portability, connection, expansion, context sensitivity, flexibility, actualization, customization, multi-modality and ubiquity.

A writing and publishing tool in mobile format : How a mobile application can support journalists' work process.

Reslow, Fanny January 2019 (has links)
Journalists' work process has during the 21st century gone through a change because of the mobile's development. The mobile phone's development together with the internet has made it possible to have faster and better access to news. A new area of journalism has been developed, called mobile journalism. A journalist that works with mobile journalism works out on the field with the mobile as a tool and does all the steps covered by the production of news. The client in this project has developed a digital writing and publishing tool but lacks a solution today for mobile format. The journalist's work takes place in different environments that vary. This study investigates how journalists work and based on that data, a concept and interface has been designed with the aim of supporting the work process of writing and publishing articles. Work system theory (WST) is used as a starting point for creating an understanding of the journalists' work situation. Work System Framework (WSF) helps to understand how different factors in a work system affect production. Utility and usability are defined to drive further development of journalists' work systems. A study with a total of 10 participants involved in the production of newspaper articles has been conducted. The result shows that the work process for journalists is flexible and varied. There is a need for a system of simpler interactions, and which enables rapid transmission and processing of images. The journalists' needs and goals decides the basis for the design of a design proposal that answers how a mobile application can be designed to support journalists' writing and publishing process for digital newspaper production. The interface needs to be validated to confirm if the interface supports journalists in their work process with digital newspaper production.

The goal is to understand the implications of using live streaming on news production and journalistic practices from concepts such as mobility, mobile journalism, post-industrial journalism and actants. The research is theoretically and methodologically based on the Actor-Network Theory, through the method of Cartography of Controversies, to trace actions of the human and non-human actants present in said coverage and to describe their actions as mediators or intermediaries in the sociotechnical associations that generate the analyzed transmissions. As a result, we observe a reconfiguration in the journalist's role, which is to perform new functions, as well as a greater participation of the public in the construction of narratives, and also the growth of non-human actors such as algorithms, Facebook platforms, smartphones and infrastructure of internet connection networks.

iReportéři České televize - natáčej videa a staň se hvězdou / iReporters of Czech televisiion - shoot videos and become a star

Janásová, Vendula January 2021 (has links)
The dissertation analyzes the iReporter project, which allows viewers to become involved in Czech Television broadcasting. The dissertation is divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part deals with participatory (citizen) journalism, both abroad and in the Czech Republic. I attempt to outline the history and present of public involvement in the production of news, with a focus on TV- related participatory journalism and Czech Television in particular. The dissertation describes the way in which viewers became increasingly involved in TV broadcasting over time, be it in movies, TV series, entertainment programs or news reporting. I also explain how television began to utilize new media, mobile journalism and social networks, all of which brought it much closer to its viewers. The theoretical study is followed by a practical part focused on the iReporter project. For example, it provides information about the people in charge of the project, the number of participating contributors, the process a video takes to get on the screen, the regions with the most active iReporters and the programs/shows which use their videos the most. This is followed by a mapping of the iReporters' weekly activities to show, for example, the proportion of the most active contributors, the most popular topics...

Mobil journalistik : Ett mobilt gränssnitt för en effektivare nyhetsrapportering / Mobile Journalism : A Mobile Interface for Efficient News Reporting

Wallin, Lovisa January 2021 (has links)
Over the past decade, the use of smartphones has increased by 73%. With the increased use, journalism has changed, and many journalists use their mobile phone as a tool in their journalistic work. To use a mobile phone as the primary tool to collect, process, produce and publish news from the field is included in the concept Mobile Journalism. Mobile phones have also changed people’s consumption patterns, and it is common today to consume news several times per day. This has led news organizations to face new challenges, with higher demands on reaching out to the consumers rapidly. Promoting mobile journalism increases the opportunity to meet today's digital audience, as news can be published at a faster pace and at a lower cost. At the same time, there is a lack of research that describes how a mobile publishing tool should be designed in order support journalistic field work. This study examines how journalists experience the process of reporting news from the field, and how a mobile publishing tool can facilitate that process. Through interviews, the experiences of six journalists who report news from the field in are explored. The focus has been on identifying different types of cognitive load that the work entails, and that should be considered when designing a publishing interface. The results show that journalists depend on either a computer or desk-based colleagues to be able to publish their news material, since their current publishing tool is desktop-based. News material is therefore sent in through a number of communication channels, to someone in the editorial office to react on.  Time is wasted when colleagues need to find, process, and finally publish the incoming material, leading to the news reaching the consumers later than is desirable. Journalists’ work environment is both varied and dynamic, and there is an unmet need for a mobile working tool that is easy to navigate. Concrete design proposals for how a mobile interface can be designed to facilitate news reporting from the field have been developed with the support of established design principles. It would be of interest to user test the design proposals to study the experience of these, as well as whether they can be applied in a context outside the one included in this study.
