L'énonciation de l'homosexualité masculine : espaces médiatiques et usages des technologies numériques / The utterance of male homosexuality : media environment and use of digital technologies

Mauvoisin, Mélanie 13 December 2017 (has links)
The research conducted as part of our thesis aims at looking into the construction of the utterance of male homosexuality putting forward comparative analysis of recent times. Our concern is communication medium (media environment and digital technologies) as well as the different forms of speaking. Our thesis is organized around three parts. The first part consists in highlighting the context and the characteristics about telling homosexuality. We will suggest to revisit Michel Foucault’s work (through his work La volonté de savoir – The will to know) in order to study the implementation of the discourse about sex and then the construction of sexualities. It is also a question of identifying the variations of the self-ascription from the logic of secret to a protest or even subversive form of logic through different times, with the evocation of the place and the different aspects of “coming out”. In a second part, we will explain the different legacies of the ways to express homosexuality. We will then mention the different ways to represent male homosexuality in films, television and in web series through a linear and genealogical basis from the 1930’s until today. We will next review the practice of cruising according to open or closed areas: this will lead us to question the existence of the liberation of expressive forms. Finally, in a third and last part, we will put forward, from the mobile phone application Grindr, the identification of the different features of the cruiser as well as his roaming in a geo-tracking world. We will discuss more precisely the status and the relationship to image, the identification of the different types of views organized through the applications and the stakes and consequences as part of the utterance of homosexuality.

Drake av Hagelsrum, Emilia January 2018 (has links)
People who suffer from migraines have probably at some point thought about what the triggering factor is. Sometimes the answer is clear, and sometimes it’s not that obvious. To have understanding and knowledge of their migraine can increase the chances of self-help and also higher levels of empowerment. With self-help, the patient can make better decisions based on the knowledge of the disease, which can lead to a better well-being. In order to establish an understanding and more knowledge about their illness, it can be helpful to document the migraine attacks. The documentation can then be used to find a possible cause of the attacks. This is also called a migraine journal. Migraine journals can be prescribed by the health services, where you get a template with less words and with simple instructions of the tasks on them. There are also digital solutions, like mobile applications, that supports more detailed documentation. A digital solution provides more opportunities for more detailed information about the person's illness, but mobile apps often lacks adaption for the patient's specific needs and problems. Persons who suffers from a migraine attack, can experience difficulties when documenting a large amount of information on applications. The interaction with digital screens may worsen the symptom. This is one of the findings of this study. The purpose of this study was to examine how a user interface for a mobile health application, could be designed with focus of empowerment and a good user experience. To find out, 7 semi structured interviews were conducted. The informants were asked to tell about their experiences, their knowledge about their illness and some technical aspects of how they want to interact with mobile applications while they are suffering from an attack. The data that was obtained from the interviews were then analyzed using qualitative coding that resulted in four different themes. The study showed that the potential users wish to interact as little as possible with the screen. Documentation of migraine attacks can be done with the help of speech and sound. The interface itself should be easy with simple icons which are easy to identify. It should be possible to manually or automatically adjust the light on the screen. The result of the study contributed to suggestions for how to design a suitable interface for migraine patients. The interface is visualised in this report in the form of mockups. For future research , it is recommended to perform user tests with extended prototypes to investigate whether the design principles and design suggestions developed in this study are perceived as a good user experience and contribute to empowerment.

A Study On Home Based Parkinson's Disease Monitoring and Evaluation: Design, Development, and Evaluation

January 2013 (has links)
abstract: Parkinson's disease, the most prevalent movement disorder of the central nervous system, is a chronic condition that affects more than 1000,000 U.S. residents and about 3% of the population over the age of 65. The characteristic symptoms include tremors, bradykinesia, rigidity and impaired postural stability. Current therapy based on augmentation or replacement of dopamine is designed to improve patients' motor performance but often leads to levodopa-induced complications, such as dyskinesia and motor fluctuation. With the disease progress, clinicians must closely monitor patients' progress in order to identify any complications or decline in motor function as soon as possible in PD management. Unfortunately, current clinical assessment for Parkinson's is subjective and mostly influenced by brief observations during patient visits. Thus improvement or decline in patients' motor function in between visits is extremely difficult to assess. This may hamper clinicians while making informed decisions about the course of therapy for Parkinson's patients and could negatively impact clinical care. In this study we explored new approaches for PD assessment that aim to provide home-based PD assessment and monitoring. By extending the disease assessment to home, the healthcare burden on patients and their family can be reduced, and the disease progress can be more closely monitored by physicians. To achieve these aims, two novel approaches have been designed, developed and validated. The first approach is a questionnaire based self-evaluation metric, which estimate the PD severity through using self-evaluation score on pre-designed questions. Based on the results of the first approach, a smart phone based approach was invented. The approach takes advantage of the mobile computing technology and clinical decision support approach to evaluate the motor performance of patient daily activity and provide the longitudinal disease assessment and monitoring. Both approaches have been validated on recruited PD patients at the movement disorder program of Barrow Neurological Clinic (BNC) at St Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center. The results of validation tests showed favorable accuracy on detecting and assessing critical symptoms of PD, and shed light on promising future of implementing mobile platform based PD evaluation and monitoring tools to facilitate PD management. / Dissertation/Thesis / Ph.D. Biomedical Informatics 2013

This study aimed to develop tools for irrigation management using mobile phone, a technology already assimilated by society. The first tool called IGmanejo sends SMS to farmers with area’s name, irrigation depth and run time. The second tool is a Java application for mobile phone (mobile IGmanejo), which support irrigation management to farmers who have irrigation evaporimeter tank and rain gauge. This paper intend support a public policy of rational use of water in the semiarid region of Brazil, since it is free to farmer and may solve the current gap in irrigation technical assistance. Training curse to be able software use, climate monitoring equipment and sensitization of farmers to adopt such technology are essential points to success on farm. This software was evaluated according to water saving to growing cabbage crop, under three different seasons. The management simulations were done on a small farm, in Pernambuco state. Irrigation depth send by SMS IGmanejo water saving in 20% compared to reference software CropWat (FAO). For mobile IGmanejo were done two simulations of irrigation, using data from gauge evaporimeter tank (Class A) and using simplified tank, and also compared with those obtained by IGmanejo SMS. The results did not present statistically significant differences, confirming that the farmer may use more economical methods to estimate evapotranspiration (like simplified tank) instead of class A tank, which has high cost. The software showed that it is able to reduce of use of water on agriculture going to remote regions to support irrigation management with simplicity and quality.

Thus, the management organization (keystone) must restructure its processes to support external developers and create ways to attract the development of apps. The development of apps requires an approach that allows developers to achieve the expected performance into the MSECO. However, there is a quality contribution barrier, the App Store, the App Store’s criteria do not guarantee that apps certified by these criteria have good performance in number of downloads and positive reviews into the MSECO. It is necessary to consider the developer engagement, the quality of support offered by the organization to developers by the evangelists and the existing processes into the MSECO. In this work, we describe a collaborative approach to support app certification in MSEO defined by pair reviews and surveys. This approach is called MSECO-CERT that is composed by three process (Orchestration – MSECO-ORQ, Support – MSECO-SUP and Construction – MSECO-DEV), including recommendations and practices to impact positively the MSECO’s health. The MSECO-CERT was evaluated with feasibility study and observational study.

Development of handheld mobile applications for the public sector in Android and iOS using agile Kanban process tool

Engvall, Gustav, Bergström, Fredrik January 2011 (has links)
The innovation progress for municipalities is currently going slowly. Today most of the communication, decision-making, delegation and service of process are still handled via letter mail or phone calls. Companies and municipalities are starting to comprehend this and see opportunities. With the technology that exists today it is possible to speed up the processes when citizens and municipalities comunicate with each other. By migrating from the old way of applying and filing different matters by letter mail to so-called digital e-services, the citizen can apply, complement and get info on how their matter is going directly on the web. Abou AB works with optimizing information handling for municipalities and has recently made it possible for municipalities to eliminate their tedious way of handling matters by traceable web communication. They have a vision to take this to a new level of easement to the municipalities and their citizens by offering these services in mobile phones as so-called apps. One of these contemplated services is to file error reports. The service will offer the citizen to send in a report with attached meta data such as photo and the location of the regarding matter. This will be done by the mobile phones built in hardware in form of camera and GPS. This master’s thesis will describe the work to develop a prototype for filing an error reports in mobile phones that support Android and iOS operating systems. The goal for this thesis work is to develop this prototype by means of a process tool called Kanban and investigate if the tool fits the situation properly. The situation is that two persons will work in parallel with slightly different projects. Also the quality and usability of the resulting prototype applications is asserted with qualitative evaluations that results in higher awareness of the defects and suggestions on how to reform and improve the application in a usability point of view. The actual implementation work was planned according to a slightly loose Kan- ban paradigm. Kanban is all about improvements along the way and the im- plementation phase is divided into smaller phases with sub goals and recurring process evaluations. Suggestions of improvement regarding the work processes is a result of this. A Kanban board that helps visualize the workflow is used to help team members and project owners to get a good overview of current situa- tions. Several adjustments were made throughout the project and the so-called lead times, the time it takes to complete a task, was shortened in average from the beginning of the project compared to the end of the project. Each phase in the implementation part of the thesis work resulted in different functionalities in the application. A phase was two weeks long and ended with a demo were the new functionality was demonstrated. Prior to each demo session everyone at the company where the thesis work was performed was invited. The participants in these sessions were encouraged to give feedback on what they saw to help increase the quality of the applications. The prototype applications resulted in a more easy accessible service to citizens. By cutting out the process steps that previously needed to been done on a computer the 1application contributes to the possibility of an increased democratization grade for the citizen. The investigation regarding if the Kanban process tool was a suitable aid in the implementation part of the project resulted in that it was suitable for the specific situation. By measuring both lead times and other activities that did not concern the implementation work and plot them in a diagram explained why some weeks did not have as high productivity as others. To assert the awareness and quality of the developed applications in terms of usability a so-called heuristic evaluation was performed. This qualitative eval- uation resulted in a set of usability problems. These problems were all graded into different priority to be solved and some was given suggestions on how to be solved. The main purpose with this evaluation was to find the problems and document them to possible future programmers if the prototype will go into production. The result of this evaluation has increased the usability of the application and consequently the quality.

Differences in security between native applications and web based applications in the field of health care

Dahl, Andreas, Nylander, Kristofer January 2015 (has links)
Developing native applications for different platforms with different resolutions and screen sizes is both time consuming and costly. If developers were able to develop one web based application which can be used on multiple platforms, yet retain the same level of security as a native application, they would be able to reduce both development time and costs. In this thesis we will investigate the possibilities of achieving a level of security in a web-based application that can equal that of a native application, as well as how to develop an application that uses the Mina Vårdkontakter (My Healthcare Contacts) framework.

Testverktyg för test av mobila applikationer : En jämförande fallstudie / Testing tools for test of mobile applications : A comparative case study

Norman Uhlin, Erik, Olsson, Mirjami January 2015 (has links)
The use of mobile applications has grown dramatically in recent years and they interact with many systems. Therefore the requirement on the quality is higher and the application must often be adapted to many devices, operating systems and platforms. This means the testing of mobile applications becomes more and more important. This study has been conducted as a comparative case study in the field testing of mobile applications and testing tools. The aim has been to describe how the testing of mobile applications takes place today which have been made through literature studies and interviews with IT-companies. Another aim was to evaluate four testing tools, their advantages and disadvantages and how they can be used in the testing of mobile applications and compared to manual testing without testing tools. This was done by using and experience the testing tools. During the study, we have used mobile applications that we got access from Triona, who has been our partner.Today there are many different testing tools that can be used to support testing, but few companies have implemented these because it requires both time and expertise as well as the selection of testing tools can be difficult. Testing tools have different advantages and disadvantages which make them fit differently depending on the type of project and application. Advantages of using testing tools is the ability to automate, test on multiple devices simultaneously and get access to physical devices via the cloud. The challenges are that it can be difficult to install and learn the testing tool and that the licenses can be expensive. It is therefore important that even before implementation to know which tests and applications the testing tools will be used in and who will use it. Based on our study we can conclude that no testing tools are complete but they may contribute with different features which streamlines parts of the mobile applications testing.
