Pflichtenkollisionen bei christlichen Leitern in Gemeinde und Geschäftswelt: Lernen von Jesus und den Aposteln bei Lukas = Conflicting duties with Christian leaders in churches and business: learn from Jesus and the apostles by Luke

Viselka, Martin 30 June 2006 (has links)
This analysis consists of six main sections. Following the introduction of the theme (I), various terms are defined (II), and the contents are distinguished from related topics, with pertinent reasons given. The third (III) section consists of the results of my research on the classic typologies of conflicting duties. In the past, this subject has been widely discussed in the theological and philosophical circles. In the fourth (IV) section, conflicting duties are examined in light of Luke's writings. The goal of this exegetic analysis is to show how Jesus and the apostles met such situations, and how they dealt with them. In connection with this topic, the question of possible guilt, as a consequence, is researched. The fifth (V) section deals with proper behaviour toward conflicting duties. On one hand, the position of the author is established, and on the other hand a proposal is offered for a prioritization of values as a guiding principle in conflict situations. In the last section (VI), the findings of the research are applied practically to seven concrete examples of conflicting duties within the church and society. / Systematic Theology & Theological Ethics / M. Concepts of God in the traditional faith of the Meru people of Kenya

Gitari, Marete Dedan 30 November 2006 (has links)
This thesis covers the concepts of God in the traditional faith of Meru people but the background goes back to African traditional religion in general. Meru is located at the eastern part of Mount Kenya. The work begins with a literature review and field based on oral tradition, which indicates that Meru people came from northern Africa, moved to Canaan, Meroe, (south of Egypt) Meru-Arusha, Mombasa, and finally through Tana River to their present land. The Meru people also claim that they came along with all Bantus speaking communities in Eastern, Southern, and Central Africa. The thesis has seven chapters. The first one covers introduction and background, followed by the research plan and methodology (chapter two) Literature review (chapter three). The fourth chapter outlines the geography, migration and the various stages of becoming a human being. That fifth chapter consists of Meru traditional government and specialists. The sixth one describes the concepts of the Supreme Being in Meru traditional religion. The seventh chapter discusses the interaction of Meru traditional religion with Christianity and its implications. / Systematic Theology and Theological Ethics / M.Th. (Systematic Theology)

A great king above all gods : dominion and divine government in the theology of John Owen

Baylor, Timothy Robert January 2016 (has links)
Scholarship has tended to depict John Owen as a “Reformed catholic” attempting a synthesis of Reformed principles with a largely Thomist doctrine of God. In this thesis, I argue that this depiction risks losing sight of those aspects of Owen's doctrine of God that are intended to support a distinctly Protestant account of the economy of grace. By an examination of the principles of divine government, I argue that Owen employs the theme of God's “dominion” in order to establish the freedom and gratuity of God's grace, and to resist theologies that might otherwise use the doctrine of creation to structure and norm God's government of creatures. In chapter one, I argue against prevailing readings of Owen's thought that his theology of the divine will is, in fact, “voluntarist” in nature, prioritizing God's will over his intellect in the determination of the divine decree. I show that Owen regards God's absolute dominion as an entailment of his ontological priority over creatures. Chapters two and three examine the character of God's dominion over creatures in virtue of their “two-fold dependence” upon him as both Creator and Lawgiver. Chapter four takes up Owen's theology of God's remunerative justice in the context of his covenant theology. I show here that his doctrine of divine dominion underwrites his critique of merit-theology and attempts to establish the gratuity of that supernatural end to which humans are destined. Finally, in chapter five, I examine the principles of God's mercy, expressed in the work of redemption, where I demonstrate how Owen's conception of divine dominion underwrites the freedom of God in election and his account of particular redemption.

Buditel, historik, apologeta Matěj Procházka (1811-1889) / Revivalist, historian, apologist Matěj Procházka (1811-1889)

Řeháková, Veronika January 2019 (has links)
in English The following work is about Matěj Procházka (1811-1889), an important figure of national and ecclesiastical life in Moravia in 19th century and a member of the circle around Professor František Sušil, the-so-called Sušilova družina. The detailed biography presented here is the result of historical research into resource materials from several different archives in Moravia. This work examines three main periods of Procházka's life. He spent his childhood and student years, firstly, in his native town of Brtnice, then in Jihlava and Brno. After ordination, he served as a priest for sixteen years in different parishes of Brno diocese. Then he lived in Brno for nearly forty years while working as a secondary grammar school teacher and catechist and being involved in different activities, such as the Czech national revival, Catholic associations, education, and especially, publishing. This work maps the importance of the personage of Matěj Procházka as seen by his contemporaries and by following generations up to the present. It also brings out the overall characteristics of this priest. A part of this study is a new and enlarged bibliography of Procházka's works, as writer, journalist, translator, reviewer, poet, and author of scientific and scholarly treatises. In his works, he covered a...

A theological response to the "illegal alien" in federal United States law

Heimburger, Robert Whitaker January 2014 (has links)
Today, some twelve million immigrants are unlawfully present in the United States. What response to this situation does Christian theology suggest for these immigrants and those who receive them? To this question about the status of immigrants before the law, the theological literature lacks an understanding of how federal U.S. immigration law developed, and it lacks a robust theological account of the governance of immigration. To fill this gap, the thesis presents three stages in the formation of the laws that designate some immigrants as aliens unlawfully present or illegal aliens, drawing out the moral argumentation in each phase and responding with moral theology. In the first stage, non-citizens were called aliens in U.S. law. In response to the argument that aliens exist as a consequence of natural law, Christian teaching indicates that immigrants are not alien either in creation or for the church. In the second stage, the authority of the federal government to exclude and expel aliens was established, leaving those who do not comply to be designated illegal aliens. To the claim that the federal government has unlimited sovereignty over immigration, interpretations of the Christian Scriptures respond that divine sovereignty limits and directs civil authority over immigration. In the third stage, legal reforms that were intended to end discrimination between countries allowed millions from countries neighboring the U.S. to become illegal aliens. These reforms turn out to be unjust on philosophical grounds and unneighborly on theological grounds. While federal law classes many as aliens unlawfully present in the United States, Christian political theology indicates that immigrants are not alien, the government of immigration is limited by divine judgment, and nationals of neighboring countries deserve special regard.

Toro, Alfonso de 08 June 2022 (has links)
The Study 'On Similarities and Differences. Honour and Drama of the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries in Italy and Spain' is a standard work and the strongest and most thorough contribution to date to one of the most discussed topics in Hispanic Studies, Honour and drama in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, taking Italy into account. It develops a comprehensive model of interpretation and explanation for the intercultural and intertextual treatment of the fields of drama, honour, ethics, legal philosophy, moral theology and penal laws within the framework of a cultural-theoretical, semiotic-epistemological concept. The work is divided into two large sections: the first deals equally with the concept of honour, revenge, marriage and adultery in ethics and jurisprudence in Italy and Spain. (Here he draws on Roman, Greek and Spanish jurisprudence of the Middle Ages, on moral theology, on the books of the confessors and preachers, on collections of proverbs and anecdotes). On the basis of this material, the traits, the similarities and differences, between the two systems are analysed. In the second part, dedicated to the analysis of tragedy and tragicomedy in Italy and Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries, with over three hundred dramas, a comparable method, that of similarities and differences, is used in the historical-typological study (poetics) of the dramatic genres in both countries, providing a system that explains and interprets the dramas of honour. The work concludes with a model for the epistemological (from the origins of the discourse of honour and its constituents in the corresponding episteme of the period) and sign-like interpretation (in its concretisation in semantic, pragmatic and syntactic ‘marks’).
