Mounting of Inner Support Structure on the Swedish Warship Vasa : Product Development / Infästning av inre stödstruktur till regalskeppet Vasa : Produktutveckling

Granbom, Camilla January 2020 (has links)
The master’s thesis is focused around the mounting of an inner support structure to the Swedish warship Vasa and was given by Camatec Industriteknik AB. The Swedish warship Vasa is one of the greatest national treasures of Sweden. The ship was built high and narrow, therefore a small gust of wind made her capsize during her maiden journey. Today it is the world’s bestpreserved ship from the 17th century and has been on display for the public at the Vasa museum since the year 1990. The purpose of the master’s thesis was to generate and evaluate concepts for the mounting of the inner support structure to the Swedish warship Vasa. The master’s thesis had the following goals: To generate and analyse possible concepts regarding the mounting. Final proposals of the mounting created in CAD. FEM calculations of the final proposals to ensure that they handle the load conditions properly. The master’s thesis followed the methodical process of product development with the steps: pilot study, concept generation, concept selection and concept evaluation. Three concepts were selected for further analysis. Two concepts involved a timber tong around the hanging knees. One fastened in a present structure of the ship (concept Y2.1) and the other one attached clamping force created by a spring in the construction (concept Y2.2). The third concept was a metal sheet between the main wales at the outside of the ship (concept G5). The concept Y2.1 was eliminated due to high local stress concentrations at the attachment in the ship. The concept Y2.2 showed some desirable features, including visual representation if tension was present. However, it was not ensured that the concept can keep the surface pressure below the maximum 0.15 MPa. Another uncertainty with the concept was the behaviour of the timber tongs if movement of the hull occurred. Therefore, the concept Y2.2 needs additional work before it can be continued or eliminated. The concept G5 handled the loading case without exceeding the required surface pressure. However, a decision whether the metal sheets would be to visible for visitors needs to be taken before continuing with or eliminate the concept. In summary, the concepts need further analysing before a final concept selection can be done.

Optomechanical Analysis And Experimental Validation Of Bonding Based Prism And Mirror Mounts In A Laser System

Unal, Ugur 01 March 2012 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis, different optomechanical design and adhesive configurations for mounting mirrors and prisms used in a laser system are investigated. Maintaining stability and strength of optical components of a laser device is difficult especially if the system is to be used in military environment. In order to determine the strength of prism mounts to high acceleration levels, mathematical correlations derived by Yoder are used. By use of these mathematical correlations, safety factor of different prism mounts and adhesive configurations are calculated for an acceleration level of 40g. So as to decide most stable mirror mount and adhesive configuration, several experiments are conducted. For the experiments, 5 different optomechanical mounts are designed. Then, 25 mirrors are bonded to the designed mounts with 5 different adhesives. These experiments are done to simulate harsh military environmental conditions such as thermal shock, mechanical vibration and mechanical shock. In the experiments, angular movement of mirrors due to adhesive cure, thermal shock, mechanical vibration and mechanical shock are monitored. Thermal shock is applied between -40&ordm / C and 70&ordm / C with a temperature change of 22&ordm / C/min. On the v other hand, mechanical vibration of 14 grms and mechanical shock of 40g for 6 ms is applied in the experiments. Shortly, this study is done for determination of the most stable mirror and prism mount design and adhesive combination of a laser system subjected to extremely harsh environments.

Building a US company to manufacture solar PV mounting systems

Humphrey, John January 2015 (has links)
This paper describes the process of developing a product for the solar industry. It is the story of starting a business in the solar market by designing a product, manufacturing the product and growing sales to over $1 million USD in 2011 and 2012. The author is describing the actual details of a manufacturing company that produces solar racking systems in the USA. The author founded the company in 2009 and left the company at the end of 2012. The document describes the changing landscape of the racking sector of the US PV market, and makes the case for industry standards in solar module dimensions. The range of current sizes of solar modules is described. The inconsistency in sizes creates additional overhead for manufacturers to accommodate different sized parts to hold the different solar panels. A uniform standard size would result in cost reductions for the end customers.

En första stomresning i KL-trä : En analys av ett entreprenadföretags erfarenheter från sitt första projekt med KL-trästomme / A first mounting of a CLT-frame : An analysis of a contractor’s experience from their first project with a CLT frame

Funck, Olle, Ek, Olle January 2021 (has links)
Purpose:  Sweden’s production of cross laminated timber (CLT) has increased over the recent years which creates a demand of knowledge for contractors. A Swedish contactor implement their first project with a CLT-frame the spring of 2021. This study strives to identify key factors and improvements for a contractors first mounting process with CLT. Through this strives the study to contribute to increased knowledge for future projects with CLT. Method:  The study is a case-study with interviews and observations of a reference project. Document studies of existing science provides an explanatory approach for collected empirical data from interviews and observations. Collected empirical data is thematical analyzed based on the explanatory approach and the studies issues. Findings:  This study concludes mainly seven key factors and improvements who is considered relevant when implementing a mounting process with CLT. These findings are on-site manufactured indoor walls, experience feedback, fastener, mounting conductor, staff, design, and weather protection. Implications:  With this study, contractors who implement their first design and& build contracts with a CLT-frame could learn from the mounting process of the reference project. The aim of this study is that gained experiences provides contractors better prerequisites before future CLT-projects. Complementary studies regarding the subject are recommended for contractors increased knowledge of the mounting process with CLT. Limitations:  Conclusions and results from this study mainly concerns design and& build contractors mounting a CLT-frame similar with the reference project. Since the study solely concern one reference project with eight respondents, the result is not considered generalizable. To gain a generalizable result, more studies similar with this and in corporation with other companies could be done.
