Essa dissertação de mestrado pesquisa a presença, representação e importância da mulher, da heroína, nos quadrinhos. O foco é a Mulher-Maravilha, de sua criação em 1941 a 2002. Analisando e comparando a personagem com dois outros personagens masculinos do mesmo país de origem, época e editora, Super-Homem e Batman, tentando entender os diferentes níveis de poder entre eles e os caminhos pelos quais a heroína passou. As diferenças serão analisadas dentro e fora dos quadrinhos. Além disso, consideramos a evolução da mulher dentro do mesmo recorte temporal de análise da personagem, relacionando os dois mundos e suas múltiplas influências. A intenção é alimentar e ampliar os estudos historiográficos sobre uma história das mulheres e também de resgatar a presença da mulher na história. A análise tem um especial foco sobre o tratamento aplicado à Mulher-Maravilha pela indústria cultural no Brasil, especialmente na metade dos anos cinqüenta, quando a personagem foi lançada aqui. Igualmente importante é a discussão entre globalização e mundialização, mas, mais do que isso, os sinais, fatores e a estrutura de um novo arranjo planetário na economia, política e cultura. A globalização e o resgate da mulher na história são fatos quase contemporâneos. Este trabalho vai tentar mostrar questões para compreender ambos os fenômenos, com a análise da Mulher-Maravilha que pretendemos fazer aqui. / This MA dissertation investigates the female presence, representation and significance in action comic books as heroes. The focus will be in Wonder Woman since 1941 to 2002. Analysing and comparing her character with two others big male characters from the same origin country, time and publishing company, Superman and Batman, we try to understand, the different levels of power between them and the ways that Wonder Woman to went through. These differences will be analysed inside and outside of the comics itself. Besides, this analysis is concerned on female evolution at the same period that Wonder Woman was created to the present. Our propose is to relate both worlds, the comic books and our world, and their mutual influences as well. These aspects are connected with the intention to provide and increase the historiography studies on a female history and also to rescue the female presence in history. The analysis has a special focus about the treatment applied to Wonder Woman by the cultural industry in Brazil. Equally important to this propose is the aspect about the last forty years (or near by) we have the process of global issues. A infinite discussion between global and worldwide matters but more than this, the signs, factors and structure from a new planetary arrangement in economy, politics and cultural aspects. The global process and the rescue of a female history are events almost contemporary. And in this work we will try to show questions to help us to understand both phenomenon because they are perfectly lynked with the analysis we will try to do here. Plus we could link with another significant part of this study which is the levels of the power.

In order to achieve such an aim, the researcher, first, brings to light the 100 relevant keywords from each of his six specific natural language samples by comparing their vocabularies to that of a generic reference corpus (such as the BNC); then, the incorporated keywords are found. Only the texts (not the drawings) from 24 issues of the WONDER WOMAN comic book (published in the late 1980s) have served him as his study corpus. All the stories in that selected corpus were both written and drawn by George Pérez. The researcher s methodological and theoretical basis is from the Corpus Linguistics field (or the corpus-based approach). The results seem to warrant the conclusion that, based on the study of those characters vocabulary, which is a manifestation of the writer s stylistic choices, both the method developed for this research and the theoretical basis selected by the researcher have been proven valuable not only to make the linguistic characterization (of comic book characters) evident, but also to analyze it / O objetivo do autor deste estudo de linguagem empírico é evidenciar a caracterização linguística de personagens de histórias em quadrinhos da Mulher-Maravilha mediante a descoberta de quais palavras-chave de córpora de referência específicos estão incorporadas ao vocabulário de tais personagens, e em qual proporção. Para atingir esse objetivo, o pesquisador, primeiro, descobre as 100 palavras-chave relevantes de seis amostras de linguagem específica por meio da comparação do léxico delas ao dum córpus de referência formado por linguagem genérica (como o BNC); depois, as palavras-chave incorporadas. Apenas os textos de 24 edições da revista WONDER WOMAN do fim da década de 1980, roteirizadas e desenhadas por George Pérez compõem o córpus de estudo. A fundamentação teórico-metodológica do pesquisador é de Linguística de Córpus (ou da abordagem baseada em córpus). À luz dos resultados obtidos, o autor considera admissível afirmar que tanto o método desenvolvido para esta pesquisa quanto o referencial teórico são adequados para a descoberta e para a análise da caracterização linguística de personagens de histórias em quadrinhos com base no vocabulário destes, que é decorrente de escolhas estilísticas do seu roteirista

In the process of identity construction, the media and entertainment industry act as tools that contribute to the formation of the individual. These media are responsible for reflecting stereotypes that make up society and often the subjective way exposed by these channels of communication reproduce a unilateral view of society, which on many occasions have privileged the eyes of those who hold the domain of the word. Among the many categories objectified and/or erased by these means are the women. Female stereotypes, though many are not diversified, women are always represented as: the mother, the wife, the damsel in distress, the mistress among others, all those created to establish the place of women in society. The struggle for female visibility is not recent and one of the reasons for this struggle is the way women are represented in the media. The present work aims to analyze and discuss how women are represented in the genre Comics, so we will analyze the character Wonder Woman, who despite being seen as a symbol of female empowerment, carries several marks of the male view upon the woman. The methodology adopted to conduct this work will be through qualitative bibliographical research. The development of the analyzes proposed by this work will follow some theoretical perceptions among which are the Multimodal Theory of Speech by Kress and Van Leewen (2001) and Van Leewen (2005), The performative Theory by Butler (1990) and the Identity Studies by Hall (2000). The reading of the images that compose the genre analyzed will also use the contribution of the Critical Literacy and the Cultural Studies. The need to redefine the female image in the universe of comics is the central aim of this work. / No processo de construção de identidade, os meios de comunicação e entretenimento atuam como ferramentas que contribuem para a formação do indivíduo. Esses meios são responsáveis por refletir estereótipos que compõem a sociedade, e, muitas vezes, a forma subjetiva exposta por esses canais de comunicação reproduz um olhar unilateral acerca da sociedade, o que em muitas ocasiões privilegiou o olhar daqueles que detêm o domínio da palavra. Entre as tantas categorias coisificadas e/ou apagadas por esses meios estão as mulheres. Os estereótipos femininos, apesar de muitos, não são diversificados, visto que as mulheres são sempre representadas como: a mãe, a esposa, a donzela em perigo, a amante, entre outros, todos eles criados para estabelecer o local da mulher na sociedade. A luta por visibilidade feminina não é recente, e uma das motivações dessa luta deve-se à forma como as mulheres são representadas na mídia. Diante disso, o presente trabalho teve por objetivo analisar e discutir a forma como as mulheres são representadas no gênero HQS (Histórias em Quadrinhos), e, para tanto, analisamos a personagem Mulher Maravilha, que, apesar de vista como símbolo de empoderamento feminino, carrega várias marcas estereotipadas sobre a mulher. A metodologia adotada para a condução deste trabalho deu-se por meio de pesquisa qualitativa bibliográfica. Por sua vez, o desenvolvimento das análises propostas pelo estudo seguiu algumas perspectivas teóricas, dentre as quais estão a Teoria Multimodal do Discurso, de Kress e Van Leewen (2001) e Van Leewen (2005), a Teoria performativa do gênero, de Butler (1990), e os estudos sobre construção de identidade, de Hall (2000). A leitura das imagens que compõem o gênero analisado também se fundamentou no aporte do Letramento Crítico e dos Estudos Culturais. Por fim, destacamos que a necessidade de ressignificação da imagem feminina no universo das HQS é a questão central desta pesquisa. / São Cristóvão, SE

She is the female's best-known female superhero. However, it was only in 2017, 75 years after its release, that the character gains a cinematographic work of its own. With the advent of information technology and the appropriation of the spaces of social networking sites, the theme of feminism has been gaining strength and has been widely discussed. This study analyzes the discussion on social networking sites on gender issues, in relation to the Wonder Woman movie release, in four publications on the official Facebook page. We investigated, in the comments on the release of the film, the presence of a debate on feminist issues, in order to identify the topics discussed. The idea is that the film would be able to mobilize discourses about female empowerment. We trace a brief history of how gender issues have been discussed from the 1930s to the present day. We discuss how gender studies are understood today and about the presence of feminism on the Internet. Questions about power and discourse were brought to the fore anchored in the precepts of Bourdieu (1996) and Foucault (2013), who describe elements to be considered in speech production as being a product of power relations in a society. We understand language as a form of naturalizing power through the concept of habitus (BOURDIEU 1989), and we consider it as one of the ways of perpetuating gender inequality. We recourse to Recuero (2012, 2014) to describe computer mediated communication and its relevant aspects for the analysis of this study, understanding it as a social product, capable of simulating elements of oral conversation. We understand, as Herring (2001), that textual communication is part of the discourses that come to construct behaviors. Thus, we use theoretical and methodological contributions of the Computer Mediated Analysis Discourse, developed by Herring (2001, 2004) in an attempt to find patterns capable of indicating the presence of a discussion about female empowerment, as well as to identify other recurrent patterns of discourse. / A personagem Mulher-Maravilha é reconhecidamente feminista e figura, juntamente com Superman e Batman, uma das principais super-heroínas da DC Comics. Ela é a super-heroína feminina mais conhecida da grande massa. No entanto, foi só em 2017, 75 anos depois de seu lançamento que a personagem ganha uma obra cinematográfica própria. Com o advento das tecnologias da informação e com a apropriação dos espaços dos sites de redes sociais, a temática do feminismo vem ganhando força e tem sido amplamente discutida. Neste estudo analiso, então, a discussão nos sites de redes sociais sobre as questões de gênero, no que se refere ao lançamento do filme Mulher-Maravilha, em quatro publicações na página de Facebook oficial da obra. Investiguei, nos comentários sobre o lançamento do filme, a presença de debate sobre as questões feministas, a fim de identificar os temas discutidos. Minha hipótese era de que o filme fosse capaz de mobilizar discursos sobre empoderamento feminino. Para este projeto, primeiro traço um breve histórico sobre como as questões de gênero têm sido discutidas desde os anos 1930 até os dias atuais. Em seguida, abordo sobre como os estudos de gênero são entendidos hoje e sobre a presença do feminismo na Internet. Questões sobre poder e discurso são trazidas à tona ancoradas nos preceitos de Bourdieu (1996) e Foucault (2013), que descrevem elementos para se pensar na produção do discurso como sendo um produto das relações de poder em uma sociedade. Entendo a linguagem, enquanto forma de naturalizar o poder, através do conceito de habitus (BOURDIEU 1989), e a considero como uma das formas de perpetuação da desigualdade dos gêneros. Recorro à Recuero (2012, 2014) para descrever a comunicação mediada pelo computador e seus aspectos relevantes para análise deste estudo, compreendendo-a como um produto social, capaz de simular elementos da conversação oral. Entendo, assim como Herring (2001), que a comunicação textual é parte dos discursos que vêm a construir comportamentos. Assim, utilizo aportes teóricos e metodológicos da Análise do Discurso Mediada por Computador, desenvolvidos por Herring (2001, 2004) na tentativa de encontrar padrões capazes de indicar a presença de discussão sobre o empoderamento feminino, bem como identificar outros padrões recorrentes de discurso.
