The unheard stories of adolescents infected and affected by HIV/AIDS about care and/or the lack of careVan Niekerk, Marinda 24 May 2005 (has links)
Adolescents living in the inner-city of Pretoria have their own special challenges that they must face everyday. These challenges entails a poverty context, communities of violence, difficult family circumstances and a developmental phase in which they struggle with their own identity. The focus of this research is to listen to the stories of adolescents that have not being listened to before, concerning HIV/AIDS and their experiences regarding care. These young people is infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS. The researcher does this research in the Narrative therapeutical paradigm, listening Practical Theologically to the stories of young people infected and/or affected by HIV/AIDS regarding care. Other stories about adolescents and care will also be listened to. The research process is social-constructionally structured. The researcher is searching for a holistic understanding of care from the perspective of young people. Discourses about adolescents, about care, about the inner city and about AIDS will be discussed. Two separate groups of young people participated in the research. The researcher also listened to voices of the Sediba Hope AIDS Care Center about care and about young people. Reflection groups were used, consisting of teenagers and people from the academic community. The researcher used the method of reflection and self reflection throughout the research. Care is described after there were listened to the stories of the young people. The role of an African world-view is described as a resource to understand care holistically. The researcher spent time to reflect on the theological implications of the stories of young people and about the role they must play in the church and in the community. Different care narratives are described as an outcome of the research. Other outcomes are also named and reflected upon. / Thesis (PhD (Practical Theology))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Practical Theology / unrestricted

Sustainable organisational transformation through inclusivityViljoen-Terblanche, Rica Cornelia 30 September 2008 (has links)
The objective of this multi-perspective qualitative research study was to explore the phenomenon of Inclusivity and to develop a theoretical Inclusivity Framework. Inclusivity is defined by the researcher as a radical transformational methodology with the intent to achieve sustainable results.
A case study, in which an Inclusivity Transformational Strategy was implemented, was introduced to provide context. Six years after initial implementation of this strategy, with the purpose to investigate the sustainability thereof, in-depth interviews with a phenomenological nature were conducted with national leaders (n=4) responsible for the strategy and provincial leaders (n=13) that participated in the interventions. Furthermore, a round table discussion was conducted with the executive team (n=12), and three focus groups were held on regional leader level (n=32) and three on employee level (n=28).
The essence of the phenomenon namely Inclusivity was synthesised through Phenomenology. Emerging theory was built through Grounded Theory principles. Meta-insights were derived through content analysis. Post Intervention Investigation was done in the case organisation. This strategy and the Inclusivity Framework, derived from literature, were adapted and presented as contributors to the theory of Inclusivity.
Positive trends were found in the case organisation, in profitability, retention, compliance to legislation, levels of emotional intelligence of leaders and organisational climate indicators. Six years after the initial stages of the strategy were implemented, evidence of the principles of Inclusivity was still found.
It was derived that Inclusivity leads to higher levels of commitment, trust and engagement. Fundamental to the achievement of success were leaderships emotional intelligence, and willingness to allow differences. A key finding was that although aligned around strategy, individual styles were allowed to manifest in the case organisation. Creating Inclusivity in one system may however lead to the exclusion of other systems.
It was concluded that Inclusivity as defined by this study is a radical transformational methodology that may result in sustainable transformation. / Graduate School of Business Leadership / D.B.L.

'n Histories-opvoedkundige ondersoek na die invloed van die sinkretisme op die moderne onderwysAucamp, Barend Bernardus 01 January 2002 (has links)
Text in Afrikaans / Summary in Afrikaans and English / This study is an attempt to analyse and describe syncretism as an encompassing phenomenon from a historical-educational perspective. In recent times, the ideas of globalization, the influence of modern science, as well as certain ideas concerning modern education, are closely related to the manifestation of syncretism.
A study of various exemplars from the past and present disclosed the essences of syncretism, thus unveiling the religious growth-motives that underlie syncretism, which also played an important role in the development of Western civilization and the modem world. The multi-faith idea (the idea of unity and synthesis), the idea of secularization, and the idea of relativity, were identified as prominent characteristics of syncretism. The identification and analysis of the essences of syncretism and supporting religious principles. become possible when syncretism is set in opposition to the Biblical and reformational thought processes. Bible-based education provides an alternative to syncretism in a fast changing and post-modern world. It gives perspective on the instruction to people to care for and develop God's creation. The intrinsic characteristics of Bible-based education were used as evaluation criteria in an attempt to expose syncretism. The characteristics of Bible-based education which also provide a framework for establishing a corrective to the problematic educational situation, are the following:
• the acknowledgement of the Holy Trinity as central to man's existence;
• the Bible/Holy Scriptures as essential for a Christian world and life view;
• the essence of a Christian anthropology;
• education as the fulfilment of God's covenant with man;
• the directive role of Bible-based norms;
• the transfer of culture through education
• Biblical cosmology as an expression of the Christian faith;
• the reformational aspect of Bible-based education.
In the evaluation of syncretism, it was discovered that the relationship between man and the Holy Trinity would be negatively affected if the Christian religion were not regarded as the only source of truth concerning the salvation of man and the true meaning of life. The influence of syncretism necessitates a reformational and antithetical approach, which constantly emphasises the importance of the educator's role in the teaching and education of the child in the modem educational system. The relevance of pastoral counselling in South Africa: with reference to the South African Association for Pastoral WorkNeethling, Ilze 11 1900 (has links)
In South Africa, no occupational or professional councils for pastoral work exist as yet. In order to support pastoral counsellors in their negotiations to obtain professional status in this country, the presumed limitations and ineffectiveness of present mental health systems in South Africa is examined. Pastoral counselling as a possible national health resource is explored with reference to primary health care, freedom of choice, consumer rights, cost-effectiveness, spirituality, social change and reconciliation and multi-cultural application.
Arguments are imbedded in relevant theory and supported by vignettes of suffering, survival, and redemption in spirituality. A postmodern, qualitative approach is used. Participants' narratives indicate that they have experienced healing through utilising their religion and spirituality. However, this study does not claim to provide conclusive proof that pastoral work is relevant in this country - it should be seen as part of a process which aims to develop pastoral counselling as a profession. / Practical Theology / M. Doing narrative counselling in the context of township spiritualitiesLandman, C.(Christina) 30 June 2007 (has links)
The study describes the counselling journey undertaken with 270 patients at the Family Medicine Clinic at Kalafong Hospital in Atteridgeville, Tshwane, between June 2000 and December 2003. Of these patients 75% were women, 74% were black and 97% Christian, with half of them belonging to born-again churches. A majority of the patients (52%) were unemployed and the others employed in minimum salary jobs. A third of the patients had attemped suicide at least once before, and a third had lost at least one close family member.
With these patients a narrative pastoral counselling practice was established. Narrative counselling was practised as a MEET process in which the patients' problem-saturated stories were mapped and their problems externalised; they were empowered through the deconstruction of religious problem discourses, and their alternative stories were thickened by means of religious practices. This was a pastoral practice with a focus on religious discourses as problem discourses, and on the deconstruction of these discourses towards alternatives stories of faith.
The first aim of the study was to describe the faces of religious problem discourses. They are (1) power discourses that hold patients captive in divinely sanctions hierarchies of gender and class, (2) body discourses that alienated patients from their bodies, (3) identity discourses that placed the religious identities of patients in conflict with their other identities, and (4) otherness discourses that created barriers between patients and God.
The second aim of the study was to describe the externalised faces of the problems ruining the patients' lives. Here Losses, Loneliness and Lack of money were described as problems causing amongst patients feelings of worthlessness, depression, paralysis, body aches and many more.
The third aim of the study was to describe the characteristics of the narrative pastoral counselling practice that has been established. This practice (1) negotiates healing between binaries such as Western/African, culture and dogma/lived experience; patient passivity/patient agency; (2) respects the indigenous knowledge of patients as it is embodied in township spiritualities; and (3) aims at introducing patients to a community of care as well as a new community of discourse where they can experience spiritual healing. / Practical Theology / D. Die interkulturelle Gemeinde : Gemeindeaufbau und Evangelisation in der zunehmend multikulturellen Bevölkerung deutsher Ballungsräume / Intercultural church : church development and evangelization in an increasing multicultural population in a german urban contextSchönberg, Klaus 22 January 2015 (has links)
Auswirkungen, die ein rein monokultureller Gemeindebau in multikultureller Umgebung hat / The objective of this missiological study is to determine which kind of church needs to be
built in a globalised and increasingly multicultural society, in order for all people to be able to
hear the gospel as good news.
In accordance with the method of contextual theology, the question is raised inductively, in
which kind of world we live today. Subsequently, a further inquiry is made into the Scriptures:
whether they answer fundamental questions about the issue of an increasingly multicultural
society. A reflection on the results of both steps leads to the establishment of key points
for the formation of an intercultural ecclesia. On the basis of the research results, hypotheses
about (mission)theological, evangelistic, socio-cultural and political relevance are developed.
The study presented reveals the significant, distinctive features of mono- and intercultural
church development. It describes the potential of the intercultural church for evangelism and
social transformation and outlines the social effects of purely monocultural church development
in a multi-cultural environment / Practical Theology / M. Th. (Practical Theology)

Bevordering van selfaktualisering by milieu-geremde leerders binne 'n multikulturele onderwyssisteem / The promotion of selfactualisation of milieu disadvantaged learners with a multi-cultural education systemDe Bruyn, Carina Elizabeth 06 1900 (has links)
Summaries in Afrikaans and English / The promotion of multi-cultural education and the upliftment of milieu disadvantaged
children are closely related to each other, and is presently an important issue in the
South African educational system. Poor knowledge of milieu disadvantaged children
and multi-cultural education result in the loss of valuable learner potential and the
non-fulfilment of the education policy.
In this study, the promotion of self-actualisation of milieu disadvantaged children within a
multi-cultural education system is discussed from a psychological-educational
perspective. Attention is given to the problems and issues that play a defining role in
the implementation of such an educational system. The influence of the environment en
the development and functioning of milieu disadvantaged learners is investigated
further. Qualitative research is done to identify the developmental areas where most
problems occur. Finally, recommendations are made to the government, teachers and
parents that ~an serve as guidelines to promote the selfactualisation of these learners.
leerders binne 'n multikulturele onderwyssisteem vanuit 'n opvoedkundig-sielkundige
perspektief bespreek.
Educational Studies / M. Ed. (met spesialisering in Voorligting)
