Uma análise do ensino superior brasileiro a partir dos dilemas que envolvem as políticas públicas / Higher education as business activity and the \"minimum citizen\" in the Brazil: the weight of liberal\'s hand and the print of an invisible alliance.Allan Aroni 29 February 2008 (has links)
With the present dissertation, we had the goal of analyze the essential of the policies addressed to higher education in the Brazil, mainly those implanted at XX and earlier XXI century, considering the persistence of dilemmas and challenges that permeate the human behavior and social actions in the country. We started from the perspective that, in a general way, the educational system faces a range of institutional bridles, rebounding on the lack of educational quality, on the students hold and school evasion, on the low recognition to and payment for the professionals of this area, on the political opportunism that nothing of positive adds to the country, and so on. At the methodology, we utilized bibliographic and documental researches. In terms of bibliography, the study considered contact areas between the sociology, the politic science, the philosophy, the economy, and the physics; what was concerned about public policy, the importance of organized civil society, the liberalism, the science and so on. At the documental aspect, for your turn, we utilized laws, decrees, accounts, in short, records that, when observed jointly, resulted in evidences and hypothesis that interlace themselves and that were organized in three moments of the work. At the first, the consideration of the historical, social, political and economical reality in what the policies for the higher education are been implanted, that corroborates an authoritarian social hierarchy. At the second, the necessity of making conception of the public policies in a context of relative democratic advance, revealing strategies destined for limiting the social participation concern decision about the destination of public founds. At the third moment, the analyses of the policies set adopted, tending to reaffirm an excluding and unequal society. Concluding, the confront of pressing questions to the higher education starting from the policies set, that could be thought with the perspective of society in whose they are insert, indicated a continuity of principles and guidelines, with liberal matrix, to be overcome. Without the perspective of a deep politic rupture, we can consider that the update, in terms of educational policies, has been totally contrary to the demands that rule the country. In the lack of a broad transformation of this frame, the logic that has ruled the policies at Brazil will keep responding to the subordinated country project, opposed to the society interests and, therefore, its not worth this or that policy without the consideration of the things power in its totality and its intern acceptability.

Resonances of difference : creative diplomacy in the multidimensional and transcultural aesthetics of an indigenous photomedia practiceKing-Smith, Leah January 2006 (has links)
Multidimensional aesthetics in photomedia practice shift the emphasis away from the culturally dominating singularity of the camera's eye-piece towards a supple interplay of semi-transparent image planes and shifting positions. Using various image-capture devices that can produce digital, film, still or moving pictures, I create bodies of work that invite the viewer to see many perspectives simultaneously. The challenge is to implement the effectiveness of the technologies and simultaneously dislodge those principles and values fundamental to their imperialist cultural backgrounds. My practice investigates a diplomatic negotiability of aesthetic language to accommodate conceptual and cultural difference/s. Located on the print surface or in animated sequences are symbolic representations that disclose histories, cultures, times and places in subtle and ambiguous ways. The interplay of allure and resistance, repetition and change, are strategies that reveal the delicate and paradoxical nature of the multidimensional psyche.

How Robust are Educational Mobility Analyses to Researcher Analytical Decisions?Strömberg, Ely January 2022 (has links)
As robustness of social science is getting more attention, analytical choices have been found to be more important than previously thought. This thesis investigates robustness of intergenerational educational mobility estimates using multiverse analysis, a technique for incorporating many analyses into one framework while varying analytical choices such as variable coding, mobility measures, and exclusion criteria. Using ESS data from 16 European countries over nine survey rounds, results show substantial variation in point estimates, which in turn creates high variation in rankings of European countries. The conclusion is that analytical choices play an important role in calculating educational mobility estimates, and that ranking of European countries according to intergenerational mobility estimates is sensitive to varying these choices. Future mobility research should take this into account.

This master’s thesis is the first step in a poetic and narratological study of the textual form commonly referred to as “choose-your-own-adventure books”, which invites readers to identify with its diegetic universe’s protagonist and to engage in the building of the narrative as it is read. How does narration become the site of a unified multiplicity of narratives––an oxymoron, to say the least––whose virtualities depend on the decisions of a reader-character in order to be actualized? How can we characterize the singular poetics of these texts through the prism of this fundamental plurality? The first part of the thesis is dedicated to the establishing of methodological foundations that can provide a manner of taxonomy for interactive fiction. Espen Aarseth's cybertextual approach constitutes this main basis and allows for the relation of choose-your-own-adventure books with the digital form of hyperfiction, to which it is often compared due to a common hypertextual functioning. The choose-your-own-adventure genre is then examined in the light of the narrative concept of multiversality, revealing that while choose-your-own-adventure books are not perfect examples of multiversal narrative, their thematisation or poetisation of the plurality of possible realities reaches a point where it is possible to speak of multiversal effects or, at least, of a multiversal teleology. The second part of the thesis examines each of the three works making up the main corpus, La nuit je suis Buffy Summers (2007) by Chloé Delaume, Nils Jacket contre l’Agent X (2007) by JFM and La Salamandre (2000) by Emmanuel Aquin, and each’s specific way of exploiting multiversality and the concept of possible or virtual realities. This thesis is thus intended as a narratological entry into a more in-depth poetic study of a liminal genre, neither quite narrative nor quite game, that has not yet been the object of any systematic examination. In so doing, it also aims to challenge the often hasty or rudimentary application to choose-your-own-adventure books of theoretical frameworks developed for more established fictional forms, which then prove unfit to represent the full poetic range of the genre.

Mirrors And VanitiesSalas, Leslie 01 January 2013 (has links)
Mirrors and Vanities is a multi-modal collection which showcases the diversity of working in long and short storytelling forms. Featured in this thesis are fiction, nonfiction, graphic narrative, and screenplay. Using unconventional approaches to storytelling in order to achieve emotional resonance with the audience while maintaining high standards for craft, these stories and essays explore the costs inherent to the subtle nuances of interpersonal relationships. The fiction focuses on the complications of characters keeping secrets. A husband discovers the truth behind his wife’s miscarriage. A girl visits her fiancé in purgatory. A boy crosses a line and loses his best friend. Meanwhile, the nonfiction centers on self-discovery and gender roles associated with power struggles. A schizophrenic threatens to ruin my mother’s wedding. I rediscover my relationship with my father through food writing. Sword-work teaches me to fail and succeed at making martial art. The title work of the thesis is a collaged story highlighting the tribulations of a physicist fixated on recovering his lost love by manipulating the multiverse. The multi-modal format implicates the nebulosity of physics theories and how different aspects of the narrative can be presented in various formats to best suit the nature of the storytelling. Through the interactions of characters in mundane and extraordinary circumstances, the works in this thesis examine the consequences of choice, the contrast between reality and expectation, coming of age, and the Truth of narrative.
